Runes for AP carrys

So right now I got my flat ap quints, magic pen reds, mana reg per lvl yellows and ap per level blues.
So my question is, if magic pen runes are more effective than ap runes 'cause armor pen is also more useful than flad ad.

mpen runes are better than having ap reds not many items give mpen, tons give ap. taking armor for yellows or dodge isnt a bad idea either if you solo mid a lot cus you never know when you face an ad champ even mr blues are viable but having mana regen per level yellows or blues are a must.

Yo!
I'd say apen is a little different, since there are no apen boots or stuff like that.
But i still prefer the Magicpen runes myself, just because it fucking owns to have an insane Magic Pen in early game(well it rocks during the whole game, but u will feel the runes themself mostly in the early game),
with runes + magic pen boots.

BUT I also gotta say, i usually prefer flat runes, cuz i want a big difference in the beginning instead a little difference in lategame. Not THE pro idea, but hey, i dont care! :D

+MRegen/lvl18 yellow blue

Since AP 'carry' in LOL typically means scaling damage all game I feel early lane benefit runes work best in science.

agreed but i would just take the +Mregen yellow and flat ap blues because most casters rush a tear or catalyst anyways so no need for that much mregen

This, having 2 colors for mana regen is a bit excessive.

I try and avoid tear on any caster I play. I honestly feel it is over-used, over-rated and ugly on some casters(ex Annie, never tear on Annie). Where the mana regen allows for less recall. The mana pen is enough for fast boots + catalyst in lane faze damage output. Let your items be a source of AP imo, that allow transition out of the lane faze.

In my mind it depends on what carry you're using as to what rune set you pick. For energy AP carries (Akali and Kennen), I prefer Magic Pen Marks, Flat Health Regen/5 Seals, AP/level Glyphs, and Flat AP Quints. Using this you have enough regen to last in lane for a significant time (especially combined with Akali's passives), and you have enough AP and Magic Pen to be hitting considerably harder than normal. For Mana users, I prefer to switch the Flat Health Regen/5 Seals with Mana Regen/5/level Seals. Also, depending on which mana caster I'm using (Ex: Ryze), I sometimes will switch out the AP/level Glyphs with flat mana Glyphs. Out of all the types of character (Tank,AD,AP, etc...), I find that AP Casters have the least variation in their rune pages (IMO).
