  • Get and except against (you get against them).
  • Classic AP runes are OK + 21/9/0 Masteries.
  • Your build :
  • Play safe pre-6 (farm only with your Q if necessary). At level 6 your opponent then WAIT YOUR CD, once your CD is back : jump on your opponent and proc the Mark with your + another + AUTOATTACK. THIS IS YOUR BASIC COMBO.
  • Use your (reveal area) before facechecking.
  • Don't use your if the enemy team got Pink Ward / Oracle Lens except to reduce the damages from AoE spells (additional resistances).
  • In teamfight wait your team to engage before going in (wait until the enemy team use CCs before jumping tho).

Runes

This set of rune is the best if you can stomp easily your opponent at level 6. Indeed, you got a large amount of burst with it and hard scaling for late game with Yellow and Blue scaling. Moreover, Red hybrid pen is overall better than Magic Pen one because you use a many auto attacks to proc your Q (when your E is on CD) so it helps against armor stacking. Further explanations :

Red : Compared to Magic Pen, Hybrid is actually better, you only lose 2 mpen for 8 armorpen which is good on your AA and E.

Yellow : Armor runes nerfed and armor of champions has been uped so getting HP makes sense, I prefer scaling than flat but both are actually.

Blue : Better than AP Flat runes, if you want to kill your opponent at level 6-7 when you got your ultimate and 2 charges, with your Mark at level 4. But still I think that sustain over damage early game will help you more because you will get AP later thanks to items. That's why I only take enough AP for the passive with 9 AP/lvl your burst at level 6 will be strong. If you only got one rune page then you can mix AP runes blue with MR blues it's pretty good too.

Offensive Tree :

1 point in Butcher for a better last hitting.
4 points in Sorcery to unlock Arcane Knowledge, 5% CDR is fine and can help you getting a kill or save your ass.
3 points in Mental Force for mid-late game.
1 point in Arcane Mastery for a better last hitting with your Q early game.
3 points in Executionner to take down low hp enemies.
3 points in Archmage which is a mastery useful throughout the game.
1 point in Dangerous Game to survive an ignite in teamfights.
1 point in Arcane Blade which synergies well with your passive.

Defensive Tree :

Summoner Sets

Ignite & Flash
Flash : I don't think that you can pass flash with Akali, you need it to escape from a gank, run away from a bad fight, jump in your , get 4 charges to catch up an enemy, to proc a Mark early game if your enemy is low hp.

Ignite : Improved ignite is highly recommended. Akali is a hybrid champ +5AD,+5AP adds a good amount of damage to your burst, this also let you to finish off an enemy. If the enemy is really low hp you can + + , check if he has or not before doing this.
It helps against high lifesteal/spellvamp champ to reduce healing and kill them.
Teleport & Flash
Solo Top - Mid, in premade and your team needs you, you don't want to kill your opponent at all price or you think you can kill him without ignite; take teleport. RECOMMENDED IN PREMADE
Heal & Flash
Against These champs are really hard to lane against. Let me explain why barrier :
Darius and Garen, both got a finisher ult, Barrier can prevent you from dying. Renekton got an ultimate which cannot be reduced by Ignite, so why taking ignite against him ?

Doran's Shield against AA reliant champs, boots against afk farm champs who can't AA you.
Doran's Blade is good if you have the lane advantage and want to stomp your opponent.
Start with the Ward Totem which will help you against ganks.

You can get Sorcerer or Lucidity as boots to deal damages, I prefer Sorcerer tho energy management is better and you got additional penetration with Sorcerer. (Penetration = OP @noporn)

Early Game

Rush Hextech Revolver which will give a high sustain in lane, and a better farming ability, the AP amount is good as well.
If you build Hextech gunblade get after, lifesteal + spellvamp is just very strong to sustain your lane. Rush this item, it scales really well with Akali's passive plus giving you a good active, adding burst and chase ability (slow) : DON'T FORGET TO USE IT.

Mid Game

Get Zhonya, it let you engage mid game teamfights, huge in soloQ.
Since Rabadon nerf and new penetration system, getting Void Staff is actually better than getting Deathcap after your first major item. You can do the maths and you will see that Void Staff deals more damage than Deathcap if the enemy champ got > 80 MR (often MR mid game). Moreover you won't have to care about the enemy team stacking MR since this item scales well against MR because of 40% penetration, but if the enemy team isn't stacking too much MR then you can get WoTA before.

Late Game

Get your rabadon deathcap which is the best scaling AP item in the game, with a huge amount of AP, increasing by 30% your Ability Power in the same time. Scaling with your passive as well. I consider it as a late game item now.
(Lich Bane is (was) just awesome on Akali, Q being your main ability to deal damage, each time you land your Q you will active Lich Bane passive and deal a massive amount of damge when you consume your mark.
Build Order
Basically you rush sustain, then resistances for team fight survivability then counter counter MR and you finish your build by buying more damage items. Boots can be buy whenever you want.

Situational Items

Deathfire Grasp
You already got gunblade as active item, if you buy DFG/Gunblade/Zhonya you will have to use 3 active items. Especially good against teams who only one main damage dealer.

Randuin's Omen
Health, Health Regen, the passive and active is just really good in a fight where you jump in to decrease the attack speed of enemy AD, works great against :
Quicksilver Sash
QSS : if they got suppression champs or hard CC champs, against these champs :
Thornmail
If enemy damage is AD only, especially good against a fed AD carry (melee or ranged).
Haunting Guise
If you want to snowball early on. Don't upgrade it, sell it late game. Would be the best item to get early on if Akali wasn't that Spellvamp reliant (too big synergy to pass off).
Guardian Angel
Guardian Angel can replace or be added with Zhonya, if your team is reliant on you or if you think that the enemy team focus you too much in teamfights.
Sight Ward
Always. One or two + trinket.
Farsight Orb
If you think that is gonna be more useful for your team late game.
Oracle's Lens
Against
Boots of Mobility
Only optimal against AFK turtle-farm champs with also low mobility like Against these champs you should also get MS Quints so you can gank everywhere and snowball while they are sitting on their lane (see Roaming rune set).
These boots are not bad, but you need optimized runes to make them totaly useful. When you buy these boots ask your jungler to get an early to gank other lanes.
Lich Bane

R to reduce the cooldown. Q because it is your main damage ability, damage, CDR, energy restoration, W at level 2 because this ability is too important for many reasons early game and will save your life more than 1 time, E at level 4 and max it after Q simply to farm like a boss, W last for the slow and MR/Armor increased.

Why E over W ?

E first lets you farm a lot better, Akali is very item reliant and need a good amount of gold to get them, farm and kill are the only way to get this, whereas W gives a slow and MR/armor increase which will just improve your survivability. But getting sustain with items is far better than through skill.

Why not Q > W > E level 3 ?

Because Level 1 Q deals no damage and don't let you last hit properly which will make you lose a lot of creep if you are getting zoned. Also as a old Akali player you don't always need your E to proc your Q.

Skills

Twin Disciplines



Very powerful passive which scales throughout the game. Longer the game is, stronger you are. It makes you farm item reliant. You really need it for the laning phase to hold your lane. More AP you get, your damage output is increased. More AD your spellvamp is increased. Sustain and damage with AD and AP which makes Akali a hybrid champion. Still very powerful, despite his nerf.
This passive explains also why is a musthave with Akali.

NB : About second table, you may think the stats are wrong if you try in custom game it's probably because of the Spellblade mastery.
Mark of the Assassin


Your main ability, harass, damage, low cooldown, low energy cost, restored if you consume your mark.
Early game : use it to farm, last hit, restore your health on minions (spellvamp). The Mark buffs last longer than the cooldown allowing you to proc the mark two times without loosing too much energy and deal a ton of damage.
If you see that your mark deal a good amount of damage when you only mark your opponent then it means he she's squishy and will die in a sec if you rush him.
Remember to use ignite before consuming your mark on your enemy to add burst damage.
You can also use your mark as a deny tool, land it on your opponent to prevent him from last hitting.
Twilight Shroud


Second main ability, making your laning phase safer and increasing your survivability in a fight if the enemy doesn't have Oracle Lens or pink ward. Throw it in a bush juking with your opponent and escape kill him, use it to facecheck as well. If you are taunted in the shroud you will not autoattack your enemy and not being revealed. You are still vulnerable inside it and your enemies can target you if they have skillshot. Flash while you are in the shroud is a good way to escape.

Use your shroud if you are getting hit by ult, a towerhit, or any skillshot because the shroud will provide you increased armor and MR. Take care to not be pants off if you are being chase because the cooldown of the shroud is pretty long, and the amount of energy is high early game, don't spam your W for nothing.
The slow is also pretty good if you want to slow minions to the tower or slow the enemy laner. If your shroud is still up and you are getting gank you can juke and flash in your shroud if it's far from your position.
Crescent Slash


Farming ability, it doesn't deal a high amount of damage and cost a average cost of energy, don't spam it in a fight where your will focus to use your Q and R at 100%. Just use it if the enemy if low hp, or you want to deal a little amount of AOE damage. You can use it when you rush your opponent to consume your Q and deal more damage.
Shadow Dance


Juking, Chasing, Escape ability, the one you need to master at 100%.
First this ability has no cost, but uses one essence of shadow. EOS has a very high cooldown early in the game that's why you need to think if you really want to use it, think of the consequences and the rewards of your move. When you are level 5 and about to get level 6, stay in your lane before backing to get more EOS when you will back to your lane.

You can use it on ENEMY minions to escape, this is a good reason to let 2 enemies minions behind you when you harass your opponent to jump on them if needed. The amount's damage of EOS is really good with high amount of AP.
This is a snowball ability as well, you will be able to get more than 3 charges in a fight if you kill someone, or get an assist. It lets Akali be very powerful in teamfight to take down the whole enemy team and swap target everytime.

You can use EOS to chase an enemy as well by jumping minions by minions and take him/her down, you have 4 EOS with flash.

Melee champ, very strong laner, he's hard to deal with, his sustain is OMG and damage when he procs his W will destroy you, that's why you need to be careful of his stack. He's very squishy early game so you can kill him when he got his Q on CD, but he got his passive so... Pretty much you can try to kill him post 6 if you got ignite, never try to kill him without ignite. If you see that everything goes wrong then use your shroud. His ult works like Rene ult so don't try to trade with him when he uses it.

Full skillshots champ, boots help a lot against her. You can't hit her until level 6 if she plays right, she will just Q you. Her W will target you, you have to shroud when she uses it. Stay behind the creeps to dodge her E. At 6 wait until her E/Q is on cooldown to rush her. If she uses her ultimate just shroud and wait. She's squishy remember that. You can follow her with full stack ultimate. Rushing Lich Bane against this champ is dumb (why are u rushing Lich bane anyway ?), because you won't be able to proc your mark with AA when she ults (most of the time if she plays correctly). Don't E before your Q is on her when you are rushing her because it won't proc you damages otherwise. Ahri won't max W anymore, if she is smart she will keep her E until you rush her, when getting E by Ahri you will take a lot of damage that's why you should never rush her if her E is up. If she plays too safe then you will have to roam or farm wraith depending of your lanes situation.

Very squishy champ and totally mana dependant, keep looking at her mana pool while you are laning against. Dodge , if she hits you with it shroud imediatly to avoid/limit damage from her . The main problem with Anivia is that you can't proc your mark before level 6 and she destroys you at level 6 because of her stupid ultimate which will push the lane. Moreover she can rush MR items and still deal tons of damage. Anivia is pretty OP. The only way to beat her is at level 6, wait until that her abilities are on cooldown to burst her down. Remember to don't dive her. Because of her low mobility ganking is the best option.

Annoying, can harass you with her autoattack, she can spam her Q and W which can stun and hurt you a lot. She's not mana dependant, play safe and wait the right moment to jump on her. Her burst at level 6 is HUGE, even if she's low hp try to not dive her if she can ult/stun you under tower. Farm and gank is the best way to do against her. Your shroud isn't a protection which can save your life so take care.

She can anticipate where you will last hit and try to deny you, if she hits you with , shroud immediatly to not take damage from . You can't allow yourself of being hit by her Q or you won't be able to lane properly, this is really hard and the only think you can do early game if hard denied is : Shroud and throw your Q on minions to farm. It remains pretty hard until level 7, when you reach this level, use your ultimate on minions, land your on Cassiopeia, wait for Q's cooldown, on her and double consume your Q. Care when you do that of her ultimate. If she's smart she will build herself tanky with Rylai and Liandry making her even harder to focus, she got also the highest DPS late game from the AP champs so be really careful, consider buying a QSS.

So people asked me how to play against properly : level 1 play safe and farm with , don't get in his Q range. Level 2-6 you can fight him only when his Q is on CD, try to make him use it on creep (take care of creep aggro if he pushes his lane). Level 6+ : if he didn't back then it's time to make plays, same as before wait that his Q is on CD, now take care he got his ult thus don't let him stack his passive on you : shroud yourself. Anyway if he fails his ult on you, you can harass him like a boss, you can do hit aswell if his Q is on CD. The main strat against Darius is to avoid Q damage and ult. Use enemy creeps if needed post 6. When you got try to use the tower aggro so he takes damage.

Since her nerf, I changed my mind on this matchup. It's still a pretty hard one but you can win. The build will be MR oriented with Abyssal. Early levels try to burn her mana by forcing her to use her W everytime, you deal more damage than her and you are tankier (if her W is on CD). Just DON'T fight when her passive is up because it deals a lot of damage. At level 6, if you manage to avoid her Q rush her and destroy her. Your Q deals more damage than her one remember that (if you proc your mark ofc). Get an early Remember your Q last longer than her one. Post level 8 she will be hard to kill if you are even in lane, be very careful. It's a lane which can snowball really easily, if you die only one time you might be out of the game definetely if you aren't careful enough.

His laning phase is really bad, you can anticipate where he will last hit, land a Q on him when he goes for a minion. VERY IMPORTANT : Most of Fizz players try to go all in level 2-3 with Elixir + Ignite - Shroud yourself and harass him back but do not take more than 1 hit of his W. If you think that it's too risky to deny him because he got barrier : wait your level 6. If he got barrier and ignite as summoners spell, you can't really 1v1 him except if you can get free trades and damages on him. Otherwise - no barrier : If he rushs you, shroud yourself and punish him by consuming a mark on him. Keep harassing him and you may kill him at level 6. Use your health pots to have a average health because he deals more damage on you if your health is low. He mostly use AA early game so Doran's shield is a wise choice.

Don't get all in at level 1, it's the only point of playing GP and what can make you lose your lane. His harass is annoying, land him your Q and proc your mark when he last hit but don't get hit too many times by his AAs because of the passive. At level 6 you can use your combo to kill him. Don't try to deny him too much when his E is up. If you are against tankplank, you have to be careful during long trade, otherwise against Critplank you have to be lucky and survive his first burst, still this build makes him very squishy and you can take him down really easily.

Try to dodge his barells, shroud yourself when he uses his on you and don't fight him - his AAs will hurt because of the extra AD which is anoying, attack him when he uses his . Everytime he last hit you can burst him. Gragas' main problem after level 6, and later in the game, is that his item path doesn't allow him to buy MR or HP without making him a lot weaker in term of damage. You should wait to have 2 EOS before rushing him (because of his E and ultimate).
Can be actually harder since the last changes on him, his W + E combo HURTS a lot you have to try avoiding his E if possible then trade with him early game (pretty much impossible I know, at least dodge his Q or you will lose the trade).

He's gonna push the whole day and you won't be able to do anything pre-6. However when hitting 6 you shouldn't have to many problems to take him down, just take care of his turrets and shroud immediatly (if he's carrying a pink don't rush him). In team fights you should be able to focus him if you got a good engage.

Hard matchup totally skill based. Early level until level 5, you can try to harass her by Qing her everytime she's going to last hit. When she uses her E on you shroud immediatly to avoid the true damages. After the level 5 point all-in will be very risky and can snowball the lane in her favor. Personnally I think that the best way to win as Akali vs Irelia is farming until you get your Gunblade as first item and then you can try to fight. Post-5 until Gunblade I would only farm, it's safe and you don't have to take any risk because if Irelia gets a kill you won't win the lane anymore. When trading with her look at her mana pool to see if she will get OOM when trading with you or not. Play safe and farm then kill. This matchup is in your favor but it is hard to do so.

Dodge his Q, don't stay in his , he's really weak early game and squishy, deny him by landing your Q on him and try to consume it everytime you can. Most of the time he will farm under his tower. Avoid overextending because of his wall which can be a problem if you are getting ganked. Try to kill at level 6 if he's on the middle of the lane. If he plays too safe, push your lane and gank the others. If she's maxing shield like a retard, it will be really hard to kill her for you, and she will totally outrade you everytime, you have to try baiting her E beofre rushing her. The mecanisms of this champ totally counter Akali anyway, so if you think you won't be able to kill her try to farm and focus on mid game and late game (she's better than you mid/late game in teamfight imo). Care at level 6 if you are low hp, she can kill you really easily with her ultimate. Skill based matchup. Don't try to build tanky against her, it's better to buy burst item so you can kill her fast even if it will hurt your laning phase a bit. Why not building tanky against Riven, because she got short CDs on her spells and also her passive makes her AAs hurt a lot so it's impossible to out trade her in a long run if you are building tanky.

The main problem against him is to know what he's maxing, if he's maxing his Q you just have to avoid it and you will be fine. However Akali can avoid takin damage from Zed ultimate if you shroud at the right time he won't deal additional damage with his mark which means that you will only take the damages from the mark itself (low damage). It will be harder if he got a pink (after first back) but you will have sustain from your hextech, just attack him if his W is on CD. Mostly see played as support now, she remains a good mid champ but she can't deal with assassins. Pre-6 she's really anoying and will try to deny you as much as possible, don't underestimate plants damage. Post-6 it's a really easy lane if you wait her E on CD. Don't forget her passive which deals stupid damage. Her W reveals you don't walk in.

Akali And The Future

Hello, been a while since I didn't write something new.

As far as I know Riot is planning on reworking some Akali's abilities in the future so many things might change.
Well but this edit will concern the core item for Akali which has been nerfed hard on PBE :

Let's take a look at the actual and future passive :

At the moment : Unique – Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 50 (+ 75% AP) bonus magic damage. 2 second cooldown.
New one : Unique – Spellblade: After using an ability, your next basic attack deals 75% basic attack damage (+ 50% AP) bonus magic damage. 2 second cooldown.

Yes basic AD, basic AD - so this item becomes in my opinion trash tier, you won't deal that much damage with it late game compared to the actual one.
Basically there will be 3 ways to build Akali after Lich Bane nerf (if it happens) :

Tanky-Damage One :
Bursty One :
Very tanky :/any tank item.

I don't really need to explain these builds more since they seem very obvious, will edit more if Lich Bane nerf happens. This chapter gonna be deleted later (if nerf happens or not).

Akali is one of the best anti-carries in the game, she's considered a noobkiller or pubstomber in low ranked game. Her strength comes from her high mobility, and epicly high burst damage which can kill the enemy carry in a sec. However she's not that good against tanky that's why you shouldnt first pick her.
She is very strong in SoloQ, but not that great in ranked 5x5 (depends on the enemy comp).
This guide will deal with Akali top and mid on Summoner's Rift.

When should I pick Akali ?
Akali is a soloQ champ, kill oriented, there are 4 big rules which make an Akali pick impossible to counter :
  • There are many threats damage in your team (3 at least).
  • Your team got CC and a good engage.
  • The enemy team isn't tanky.
  • You can hard counter pick a champ (=snowball).

The last rule isn't very important compared to the others.

When is Akali a bad pick ?
Pretty much the opposite :
  • You are the only damage dealer in your team.
  • You have to engage every teamfight.
  • Your team doesn't have any CC.
  • The enemy team is full tank/offtank.
  • The enemy team got many shields.
  • Every champ in the enemy team can reveal you (such Karma, Lee Sin, Lulu).

  • Need a CC team to be truly effective.

  • Can be countered in many ways.

Akali @05/17/2013 Patch 3.6 S3

So Akali's up : 35 -> 30 (fine), 25 -> 22.5 (soso).
The fact that W gives you vision is good but you will get OOE pretty fast by doing this without blue buff which means it's only an escape tool and not a chasing tool, you can also use it to facecheck and die ().

Overall this "up" is meh compared to her nerf. However with Diana's nerf Akali state is better than before.

Commentary on Akali Nerf @04/10/2013 Patch 3.5 S3

Did Akali deserve a nerf ?
  • Yes she did, her snowball potential in soloQ was too high and she could build herself tanky while dealing a lot of damage (main problem). But champs dominating tournaments like Renekton or Zed should be nerfed aswell.

Mark detonation damage Ability Power ratio increased to 0.5 from 0.4
  • I don't know what to think about this nerf, it will be pretty impossible to last hit with your Q early game when you are getting denied. It might be the end of Akali Top Lane because she may not be able to trade anymore with melee champ like (to be confirmed after tests). Uping her AP ratio on Mark detonation will make her more deadly @200AP+ which means : no more Her late game potential in 1v1 situation will be better but her teamfight survability (with less tanky items) might drop.

Does it change anything about the builds ?
  • Since I always built Akali with AP items and not with tanky retarded shit items it doesn't really affect my builds. Trinity build might suxx even more tho.

Shadow Dance

Essence of Shadow charge rate increased to 35/25/15 seconds from 25/20/15

  • "Never use your ultimate on creeps to farm early game" That's what I always said even so a lot of pro player do it. A blue early game mid lane will help you if your jungler isn't mana hungry. It doesn't change anything for late game. Still I think that's an overnerf.

Why pick Akali when there's Diana ?
  • It's gonna be the main question about Akali right know. I think only people who played her before she became popular will still play her.

TL;DR : They nerfed Akali base damage = people will have to build her more AP oriented and they nerfed her laning phase pre6. Her laning phase when gettting zoned will be really really hard.

After global build explanations, let's see item by item, cost efficiency etc...

For cost efficiency stats I just take the basics item and do the maths (these are not the best stats of cost effiency but there are ok) :

AP : + + = [(1600/80) + (435/20) + (860/40)]/3 = 21.08 G.AP
AD : + + = [(1550/45) + (400/10) + (875/25)]/3 = 36.46 G.AD
Spellvamp : = 1200 - 800 = 400/12 = 33.3 G.%Spellvamp

What does it mean ? : Except for the following items : (calculated without Gunblade), I'm using her total AD with Gunblade at lvl 18 (171), I dont take in count the AP bonus from Gunblade. For the second Spellvamp passive I'm just adding Spellvamp cost efficiency.

  • Cost efficiency for Akali (passive) : 4282.9 + Spellvamp passive + Damage Add passive = 4282.9 + (7*33.3 see my table in skill section) + (30*36.46 this passive is pretty much more AD it scales with mpen anyway) = 5609.8

THE CORE item for Akali, it gives you everything you want.
  • Spellvamp scaling with passive thanks to AD bonus.
  • AP scaling with your spell.
  • Lifesteal for even more sustain.
  • Bursty active which scales with your AP + slow.

The only issue with this item is that you remain squishy but who cares your sustain is stupid.

  • Cost efficiency for Akali with 200 AP : 10619.1 when Lich passive is up (it's like 200 free bonus AD) - without Lich passive : 3326.
  • Akali (Gunblade) 600 AP : AP Passive + Lich Passive as AD bonus (not considering Akali AD passive ofc) + Lich Bane Basic Cost efficiency (1686) = 26515.26 with Lich passive - without : 8285.46.

NB : True cost efficiency for this item can only be considered with a Void Staff.

THE CORE Late Game item for Akali which allow you to deal damage to the tanks.

Why Void Staff is REALLY good

Many people conplains about Akali big weakness : She can't do a shit against a tanky team. It's true that HP and MR counter her. However there is two items which can make her better against such team :

Lich Bane and Void Staff.

THE BIG THREE :



Since Akali is pretty weak in lane especially mid pre6, she will most likely be camped a lot, I will list here the junglers and how boring they can be.


Amumu

Difficulty :




This little mummy can become a real pain if fed. His ganks are not the strongest in the game if you warded your lane sides. Don't be hit by his toss which is a skillshot (totally avoidable). Post 6 he might try to gank you with his ultimate using his flash, you won't be able to do much against that except using your shroud (he will probably carry a pink at that time). Don't be afraid to burn your flash if needed. In teamfight try to come from behind and avoid his ultimate to rush the ADC. You can fight him in 1v1 situation since Akali isn't too much reliant on AA to deal damage.

Why ? :
When ? : Level 2+.
Kill potential without : Average.
Kill potential with : High.


Cho'Gath

Difficulty :




Avoid his Q whenever you can and you will be safe, nothing else to say. If he got red just Q him while running (remove mobility passive) and shroud to slow him, he won't catch you up. In teamfight just wait that he uses his silence or Q before doing anything.

Why ? :
When ? : Level 2+.
Kill potential without : Low.
Kill potential with : High.

Dr Mundo

Difficulty :




Beefy target, you won't focus him in teamfight. Avoid his stupid cleaver when getting ganked and you will be safe. He will most likely try to counter jungle so take care of the pings and help your jungler if needed.

Why ? :
When ? : Level 2+.
Kill potential without : Low.
Kill potential with : Average.

Evelynn

Difficulty :




After her first jungle clean, she will be able to gank really easily. She's Shaco 2.0, you have to play safe the whole early game or she will snowball. Pinks are the only way to counter her (very expensive). It's better for you to ban her. Since you got , you won't have any problem to survive her ganks if you don't overextend early game, that's not the case for the other lanes...

Why ? :
When ? : Level 2+.

Fiddlesticks

Difficulty :
(very squishy)



Very squishy jungler, can be killed really easily, if he hold a lane and is like 2 lvls behind you, you can try to go allin on him. You can anticipate if he's ganking you or not because of his passive. Ward your lane sides and your lane bushes because at level 6 he got tons of damage and you won't be able to escape from his fear or silence. Later in the game in teamfights try to avoid fighting in his ultimate, position yourself carefully.

Why ? :
When ? : Level 3+.
Kill potential without : Low.
Kill potential with : High.

Hecarim

Difficulty :




Wards may not be enough to prevent his ganks, if your opponent (laner) got a CC you have to shroud immediatly when seeing Hecarim because he got a lot of burst early game. Don't focus him in teamfight, he can't protect his carries that well, and a good poisitioning in teamfight will make his ultimate not effective. If he got a he might be annoying but he will have to focus you instead of your AD carry.

Jarman IV

Difficulty :

Boring champ, a lot of CC, a lot of damage, try to avoid getting knock up. You can get out of his ultimate by jumping on a minion or a champ. Wardz aren't that effective against him. He will be very annoying in teamfight so wait the right momentum before doing your assassin job.

Lee Sin

Difficulty :




The one that can make you out of the game really fast. A right played Lee Sin can camp your lane and makes the lane snowball against you. The only think you can do against this is warding both side of your lane and lane bushes (you can carry 3 wards max I would say). Dodge his Q when you are getting ganked, if you are hit = you are fucked, try to flash if you think you can survive otherwise keep it for later. In teamfight Lee Sin will protect his ADC with his W and kick you, wait a proper engage before doing anything.

Why ? :

Counters :


  • Force you to focus the one with Oracle Lens if you want to use your shroud in teamfight. If the tank is carrying the oracle lens, don't focus him and don't use your shroud except against heavy AoE team. If they all got Oracle Lens, then you are fucked.
  • Same except that pink covers a small area, try to fight far from the pink (can be hard if it's placed during a teamfight).
  • You can't counter HPs as Akali.
  • Stupid AD caster item, no real counter, Void Staff counters the resist part.
  • Extra shield, no counters.
  • Not really a counter but you will have to take care when jumping on the enemy ADC/AP. If you got Zhonya use it when you pop the enemy GA.
  • Extra HP same as Warmog.
  • Banshee, pain can deny your burst, you don't have any poke as Akali, you have to ask your team to pop the enemy Banshee before fighting. Otherwise you can pop it with your R but you will have less burst. Void Staff counters the resist part.
  • Extra shield, no counters.
  • Yes it reveals you, yes it grants MR, yes it gives AP. Very strong against you, the CD on ghosts in pretty high tho.
  • If the enemy team or carries are rushing HP items then you have to buy a lot of AP over Penetration items.

Getting Countered In Lane (Items)

  • If your enemy laner is rushing MR then get instead of Revolver early game as first item.
  • If your enemy laner is rushing HP then get a lot of AP after your Gunblade which means get Deathcap after Zhonya over Void Staff (good against someone rushing Sunfire for example even if Deathcap come later it will allow to trade and deal damage if your enemy keep splitpushing top lane).

I wanted to make it clear for readers, following chapter deals more generally about the items which counter you.

iHate PINK

That's a fact, as Akali, this is your nightmare. Well I exagerate a little. I will try to figure out how to counter this.

Akali's strengh is her burst and sustain coming from spellvamp and shroud. In lane people usually don't buy a pink ward but if they do you have to be careful. Your shroud become only a bonus MR/Armor and slowing spell. A pink ward before level 6 is annoying against a strong early champ like Renekton, you won't be able to CS otherwise you will take TONS OF DAMAGE. Just towerhug and use your Q to last hit. Never trade if the enemy has a pink you'll die for nothing. Pink ward after 6 is a counter rush, you must think if your move is worth it or not, knowing that you won't be able to avoid damage from counter strike. Be sure to have one enemy minion left behind you on your lane (2 EOS required) this is your backup if things go wrong).

To resume : Take care and don't exchange if you can't crush for sure your opponent. Towerhug against a heavy harass champ like Vlad, Yorick or early champ. Farm makes you strong. If you see your enemy coming back with a pink ward and you are dominating your lane, just back, buy a pink and destroy his one.

Tips for Akali's top : Use a lot brushes when they have a pink and don't overextend.

General Tips & Tricks

  • animation is faster than which means you shouldn't use your right after using your ultimate because you won't proc your Mark (I still make this mistake sometimes).

  • If you are surrounded and still got your flash, you can try to land your somewhere then dash on an enemy minion and right after flash into your Shroud, you will be insta stealth.

  • Don't use your ultimate to farm minions without blue early game. The CD on EOS is really high.

  • Always attack with double proc Q combo when hitting 6.

  • Even if the enemy team got Oracle Lens or pink, Twilight Shroud is still a useful spell which grants you a lot of resistances, this can save you from global ultimate or AoE damages.

  • Every Akali's spell (except your W) scale with your spellvamp + spellvamp passive which means you can heal back on champions or minions easily.

  • Once you got Sheen or Lich Bane, use your E to proc item passive and deal massive damage to towers.

  • Don't forget to use your active items.

  • Your doesn't aggro the creeps, only your PROC does.

  • If you aren't overfed, don't greed undertower except if you can jump back on a minion after killing your opponent.

  • If you are the only one fed in your team (nobody in your team will deal damage in TF) go glass cannon and try to carry alone.

Akali In Premade

  • Prioritize AP over Magic Pen in your build. Your enemy laner at decent level will nearly be impossible to kill and his jungler gonna help him a lot. That's why getting AP will help farming and deal more damage on enemy carries during mid game teamfights. A premade build would look like : / (you gonna get blue so no need of Ionian) (basic build, you can replace Lich by Rylai or Guardian Angel if you got enough damage late game). Blue buff
  • Well post nerf, blue buff on Akali mid can be require. Indeed, pre-16 your Shadow Dance CDs are really high and need to be reduce if you want to gank and roam a lot. So if your jungler isn't mana reliant just take it. Post-16 there is no real use of it and you should give it to your jungler/top/adc.

Red buff
  • No you don't have any use of it since you will get either either (even both). It's only useful before your gunblade but your jungler will need it to gank early game.

Early Game

General Rule : If you are equal in term of kill, you can be 20 CS (if you can't farm well) behind your lane opponent as Akali.

Akali Mid

Good game

Check the enemy team and who you are laning against, cover your jungler until 1:50 then help your jungler if you have the time otherwise go to your lane. As Akali you want to hit your level 2 before harassing your opponent. At first, last hit with autoattack if the enemy has a passive play, if not last hit with your Q until level 2.

At level 2, start harassing your opponent, if he gets too close from you punish him by landing your Q and consume the mark (take of minions aggro), if he wants to counter attack just shroud (farm while you are inside the shroud). You may overextend and try to deny your opponent if you have advantage, otherwise just farm. Don't go near the enemy tower because it will reveal you in the shroud and you become an easy prey for a gank. To avoid this, kill your wraiths (you are level 4+) if your jungler is ganking somewhere. Your health is low ? Recover it thanks to your passive using your Q on minions and consume the mark. Don't spam your E to recover health, you waste your energy and get nothing early game from spell vamp .

If the enemy laner is ranged and can deny you hard just land Qs on minions, don't greed for one creep if you think you will lose more than 100hp for it, play safe till 6.

The enemy jungler is ganking you (level 3-4), they probably don't have pink ward, so just shroud and run away, use your flash in the worst case. At level 5 your burst damage is consequent :
Enemy Mid Life ? : + + +
Squishy enemy mid/low hp early game (without flash) : (wait for cooldown)+ + + + Proc (AA) +

Why do I use ignite at the end ? Because it will scare your opponent, sometimes when they will see you igniting them while doing your combo they will flash out immediatly, so it's better to keep your ignite to finish off your opponent.

If the enemy is full life, try to land him as many mark as possible and try to proc them if you think that your damage > the damages you will take. Remember to farm, there is no real farm goal, at least just outfarm your enemy laner if possible or keep up in CS.

If the enemy jungler invade yours, try to follow if your lane is pushing otherwise just farm, you won't be able to do much as Akali pre-6.

Remember that XP > CS early game ALWAYS

You are 6 now, it is the time to kill or back (if you back earlier than intended, buy 1-2 or/and if you can't afford one tome). Your lane is pushed ? Just back (you have 1200g or +) and get your . remember.

The enemy is on the middle of the lane and you don't have 1200g, farm, land your (wait for Q's CD) + + consume the mark (=), if he's low hp and flash, flash on him and + autohit + (if taking a tower hit), if he didn't flash just again + consume the mark + you probably killed him or hurt him a lot.

You can do the same thing at level 7 with your Q level 4 and 2 charges. Now get your and get ready for mid game.

Bad game

You shouldn't die before level 6 because of your shroud. Even so you are 0/1-0/2 in lane just farm minions with your Q and immediatly shroud, ask for a gank. If you can't get a gank ask your jungler to hold your lane and gank the other lanes. If it's warded everywhere farm wraiths and try to farm minions as much as you can.

Akali Solo Top

Good game

Dash, skillshots :
AD :
Top lane got advantages compared to mid, brush are easily to hide with your shroud but has disavantage too. (we'll see later).

With new masteries you must be very aggresive, meantime farming. At level 1 take care of minions, anticipate where your opponent will last hit (considering he's a melee champ). Land your Q and consume it and run away. When you reach level 2, you must outzone your opponent if you feel him weaker than you early game, Q him everytime and shroud if he attacks you.

Ganks top happen more often than they do mid, you must take care not to overextend, shroud in a bush and juke, flash away if necessary. If your lane is really overpushed, back (buy wards) or wait in a brush. Same combo as mid to burst your opponent. Deny, and farm that's how Akali works top against a melee champ.
At level 6 try to kill your opponent, if you can't just farm, back and get your hextech revolver as well and be ready for mid game. Try to let the lane pushed on your side if there is no objective to get and map is warded properly. Indeed, if the enemy laner is overextended you can catch him through all the lane thanks to your 3 charges, he has no way to escape.

Bad game

If you died top, your game is probably over, this lane snowballs very hard and you have to immediatly ask for a gank to get back on the track. If you fail and you are like 0/2 just try to make plays happen and roam on other lanes. Basically you won't be able to go top anymore until your turret is destroyed.
That's why Akali Top is pretty much a all-in pick.

NB : Ward the middle of your lane especially mid lane to see where your opponent goes.
Don't get baited by pinks, someone putting a pink down right before you must be baiting so be careful.

Mid Game

Akali Mid

Time to kill = Time to roam

Go to your lane, if you think you can kill the enemy laner, kill him with a full combo : + + + + + AA (E on CD if not E) + + + +

If he's playing too safe, push hard your lane and try to gank bottom preferably, ask where it is warded, go straight if enemies bottom are near your bottom tower, otherwise, go in your jungle and try to gank through your own bushes, ask for a CC on your target, jump on her and burst down your enemy.
Either they are dead, or they will run away, meantimes check where the enemy mid is. You may force a drake at this point with your jungler.

It's better to start moving when the lane is pushed and the next wave hasn't spawn yet, it will let you plenty of time to roam.

As mid laner your main goal is to help the other lanes (in SoloQ), top is often warded and is composed of offtank so harder to gank.

If the enemy laner outpushed you and roamed somewhere then you should try to get his tower ASAP.

You must complete your , just farm and roam around the map to find opportunities. When you finish it, you can now heal yourself really well with on minions. At level 11, you use minions to jump, harass the enemies or to farm.
The next item you want is for mid game initiation because you need a defensive item (Refer to the Item Builds Chapter). I will almost get or everytime to avoid a hard focus on me.

Keep warding Drake and Nashor. Farm with wards around you, don't let the enemies reach you for nothing.
Akali is one of the best 1v1 champ in the game, that's why split push is really good with her. Keep an eye on your team and join them if they want to engage a fight.
Try to fight with a finished item! Tell your team to delay a fight if they can until you get your item. All Akali's items are good for their passive, a finished item has a gap with an incompleted item.

Void + Hextech gives you a huge burst potential, your combo will just 2 shots enemy carries mid game. So get after Zhonya.

Farm, Roam, Splitpush and Teamfights.

Akali Solo Top

The main difference is that it is harder to get kill from bottom and you will gank mid instead of bottom. However, splitpushing and warding is easier. I recommend you to move only if your team needs you otherwise just farm to kill everyone later.

NB : If you team is getting crushed you better rush damage items, defensive items won't let you come back from a bad game, you need to build damage in order to catch people off guard.

Late Game

Akali Top and Mid

The hardest part of the game to play Akali. You must have farmed well, and be aiming to get your or w/e item depending of the build you chose.
If you start Lich Bane try to get first otherwise Rylai.

Your damage output is just WTFBBQ on a single target, letting you burst down all squishy champs even if they got a Banshee. If you see the enemy AD carry alone and you know where the enemy team is, just kill.
Get Oracle Lens if the enemy AD is or
Your job is to catch someone alone on the map, burst him down and rush objectives (you must have vision before doing this).
Nashor must be warded EVERYTIME. If they go drake GO NASHOR. Nashor is more important than drake late game. Push lanes and tower, use your E + autohit to proc Sheen/Lich Bane and deal more damage on tower. Never expose yourself to hit towers, it's not your job.

Teamfights are crucial to win the game.

Don't forget late game :

Team Fights

FOCUS FOCUS FOCUS. You are a single target burst assassin, you can't afford to switch targets all the time during a fight. Obviously if your target flashes away and is low hp, don't chase him if your team is in trouble or if this kill is not high reward.
You won't be able to use a full combo in teamfight, just are important in teamfight. can run you out of energy if you are not careful, always check if there is pink/oracle lens in the enemy team (if it's a late game teamfight, there will be many Oracle Lens), against Oracle Lens/Pink only use your W to take less damage from AoEs (buff Armor and MR), if they don't have any AoE spell then don't use your W in front of a Oracle Lens or near a pink ward = waste of energy. R + Q + E is the combo you will use in teamfight.

NEVER engage the fight You are a gap closer assassin, just strike your target in the back.

Your main target is the enemy AD carry (you outrange all AD carry in the game with your ultimate) or the AP caster whichever is the more fed, use EVERYTHING on him, including and active item. Ignore the offtank except if you take down the two previous target or if your AD carry is in trouble. Focus squishy champs not the tanky one.

If your team or your AD needs protection just protect your AD by bursting the first champ near your AD (it's the worst scenario possible imo - you lose like 80% of your utility as Akali).

The enemy support probably got Oracle Lens kill him ASAP after the damage dealer. You can also kill him first to use your shroud in the teamfight after.
If they all got Oracle Lens then forget the idea to focus someone only because he got this item.
Your R gives you an EOS everytime you kill/assist someone, use this advantage to jump on everyone during the fight (this ability deal a good amount of damage when you have AP).

If you see your team dying before you come in the fight and the enemy team is full life just run away.
Dont die for nothing, if your team got caught or did a bad engage don't be aced for nothing.

iLost

I ended 18/2 and lost, why ?
  • You should not take all the kills as Akali except if you know that your whole team is retarded and you need to carry 1v9. When ganking bot try to let your ADC take one kill, when ganking top do the same. Giving a lane advantage can be better than trying to carry alone especially @ high elo (= Challenger/Diam 1-2). Did you lead your team ? Did you lead them to victory ? or you did bad calls ? Did you do your best every teamfight ? Did you die when they did their comeback and your team lost because of you even if you were the only good player (yes it's sad but this is one way of losing).

I did an average score and lost, what can I do ?
  • Watch replay and find your mistakes.

I fed the enemy team, should I uninstall ?
  • Yes you can if you lost against an easy matchup alone. Otherwise try to watch your replay and how you lost when getting gank etc...

I ended 0/0 and my whole team failed hard
  • If you couldn't outplay your enemy laner (because of the jungler or blabla) then you got troll and there is nothing to do :(

Akali is my first champ since I play League Of Legends (cool story bro), you can carry more games with her than with an AD carry (refer to my Vayne's guide), because you can help the other lanes far easier. BUT I don't suggest you to pick her as first pick.

What do you think about getting WoTA after Gunblade after the last little buff to wota? I'm guessing it's still better to get more damage in the form of zhonyas but I wanna know your opinion.

Are your notes on Lich Bane before or after the changes made to Lich bane in 4.4?
If they were before the changes, what is your opinion on it now?

I won't buy Lich Bane as first or second item unless Riot changes back how her Q proc which means E + Q = mark proc. Why ? Getting AP is better than being reliant on an AA procing, moreover u get more sustain by rushing this item compared to a loch Bane rush.

Hi mate,
I have been playing akali since few years so I got my own "play style". First of all I dont rush any of hextech items. Bonus dmg is preety good (I got sustain from 5hp pots every back) but still, I wait for 1400+g and 6 then first back buying sheen. I know that I lose some gold because of useless MP bonus but combo double Q + R + AA + W + E is OP. Of course I care about junglers while Im doing it to be sure that I can escape after W. Next thing is akali is squeeshy and extra HP from belt is crucial for survival. In ur paper u wrote that rushing Rylai is bad thing, imho its not. It grands u great slow and HP bonus and early dmg from sheen is good enough. Ive been trying this kind of build but I see much better resoults from sheen+ rylai. Later on all looks preety much same.

@Derpme no idea, didn't do the MU yet, on theoric basis I would say you have to play around his shield and rape him early game.
