Yo league of legends community. I am Tommy, a diamond 1 mid lane player currently located on the EUW servers. i am making this guide because i felt there was a lack of Kha mid lane guides. Remember to leave constructive criticism and enjoy!

Kha'zix right now is a very strong pick for midlane and top lane because of his ability to snowball games out of control. he offers safe laning and extremly strong dueling potential all game. his ability to pick off key targets like the ADC or enemy mid laner lets him control games of solo queue. It can be very easy for kha'zix to snowball out of control through bot lane ganks where he can just pick off their support under tower in half a second, giving him an EXP and gold lead over the opponents, however he also does not function well versus a team with hard engage, CC and are tanky. thus it might not be the brightest idea to first pick him, but his safe laning and powerful farm potential gives you the option to freely first pick him if you choose so.



Runes

Marks: OR
is the most natural choice because together with they produce the best balance of damage throughout the game
if you have troubles last hitting.

Seals:
No other choice available, they are too useful in every single situation to every single champion. Even versus AP opponents you should take this because the ranged auto attack harass can devastate you in the laning phase. never underestimate how much of an impact an extra auto attack can do.

Glyphs:
Because you need the bonus magic resist to counteract the burst an ap opponent puts out.

Quints:
No better alternative because if you have only Arp runes you won't do enough damage early game, and armor pen runes + ad marks gives less damage than vice versa. Kha'zix doesn't need lifesteal runes, movespeed runes or anything else to function in laning phase/roam.

Together with the new pre-season 4 patch came new masteries. I am still experimenting, but in my opinion this gives you the best possible damage and lane sustain. You can opt out of taking spell & blade weaving and instead taking dangerous game & feast if you feel like you need the little boost of sustain.

The points into defensive masteries seem to be the best allocation of leftover points for a melee ranged mid laner. Block and unyielding works wonders versus auto attack harass in the mid lane.
You can also take 9 points into utility and opt for the reduced cooldown on summoner spells, increased buff duration, mana regeneration and longer lasting potions. The only situation i would take this is when i feel like i won't get auto attack harassed at all, and can spend the points on something more offensive.

Summoner Sets

Flash & Ignite
: Most important summoner spell in the game. Use it for everything, and take it every time. no disputes.
: Should take it nearly every time.The bonus damage and healing reduction might be the only thing separating a kill for reset in a teamfight/duel and death. If you are really scared of the opponent take something else likeee...
: Very useful versus scary opponents that want to brawl and burst you. if you are versus and are uncertain if you know how to beat her, you can take barrier to bait her and get that extra to finish her off

Standard Final Items
This should be your general full item build on Kha'zix. you can opt for a more offensive item than if you feel like their magic damage is irrelevant, but i don't recommend it. The only actual "core" and what you should buy every game is and . Other items are interchangeable as you please. I generally opt for because you can use the active mid-air and kha'zix has very good scalings. Another build is what i call the armor pen build and is discussed on the armor pen build item build chapter. Swap yellow trinket for blue after level 11.

ITEM EXPLANATIONS

: Almost necessary to be able to roam efficiently since kha has no way of getting around the map fast. When mercs are required you need to cut down on the jungle clearing because withought mobilities you can't instantly respond to jungle ganks.
: Upgrade to your brutalizer that you got early game. The HP, and unique passive is extremely helpful in taking down tanks.
: Must have to stay relevant in the game. With base armor alone most champions have a 45-50%
: Best damage item for kha'zix because of his incredibly high AD ratios(330% -> 400%). It is a better choice than because you can use the active mid- and the wave clear is very helpful throughout the game. A smart trick that allows you to do is clear minions while leaping, surprising your opponent with the isolation
: Hands down the best defensive item for kha. Ever had that one time where your ignite ticks down and kills your opponent the second after you die, denying you the reset? fixes that.
Build Order

Versus melee opponents buy 2 if you cannot afford brutalizer on your first back. Remember to start .
If you are maxing Q, you need to pick up before so you have sufficient wave clear to roam freely.

Situational Items

Trinity Force
This is the best replacement for a offensive item if you dont need . It synergises very well with the your kit because of the low cooldown on your and the ability to refresh procs through . You MUST evolve last if you are planning to buy this as a last item. otherwise you will instantly die before you can do anything meaningful in teamfights.
Randuin's Omen
This is the armor item you get to replace if the enemy team is full AD, and you don't want to have another offensive item. You should only take this over if you are using the armor pen build, where puts you over the CDR cap, making a better choice since it gives the highest effective HP versus AD in the game.
Mercury's Treads
Go mercs when you are versus a high CC team, or they have champions like where the CC can cripple you in fights. i wouldn't reccomend because there isn't really room for it in your item build, so just take this instead.
Frozen Heart
This is the armor item you get to replace if the enemy team is full AD, and you don't want to have another offensive item. + + Blue buff caps your CDR, making this a better choice than if you are using the primary build.
Tear of the Goddess
Tear and muramana have been the go-to kha'zix items since his release, untill the W nerfs. The reason i believe that this build order is not viable anymore is because when you go tear, your early game becomes extremely weak, and you really waste a lot of your potential damage output from doing this. If you go tear first it means you want to farm all game, and this is not a strategy i would recommend in solo que because you are basically asking every single lane to win, so that the enemy team doesn't just roll all over you. If you take tear, you should evolve first because that gives you wave clear, however i do not recommend this build for reasons previously mentioned.
Maw of Malmortius
Best magic resist item for kha'zix. A lot of match-ups call for an early hexdrinker, and upgrading it to maw is not a bad choice in my opinion because the shield and bonus AD is very strong versus bursty ap champions like .

Max waveclear and sustain to keep up with the roam and waveclear of other top-tier mid lane champions. Max second because you need this to maintain constant DPS.

EVOLVE ORDER:

Evolve first
evolve doesnt bring anything to the table besides a higher aoe for the waveclear, which i find unnecacary. the Q evolve gives you huge damage, and isnt based on the skill level so you can still max W for the sustain and wave clear.

Evolve second
The reset and extra range on leap is crucial for your mid-game teamfighting.

Evolve last
It lets you become extremely tanky while kiting and waiting for cooldowns. 50% reduced damage is HUGE. you can evolve W if you feel like you can only last hit people (poke, jump in). always evolve R last if u have trinity force because you need the extra tankyness and another ult is an extra trinity force proc.

Skills

Unseen Threat
When Kha'Zix is not visible to the enemy team, he gains Unseen Threat. Unseen Threat causes his next basic attack against an enemy champion to deal 15 / 20 / 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65 / 75 / 85 / 95 / 110 / 125 / 140 / 150 / 160 / 170 / 180 / 190 (+ 50% AP) bonus magic damage and slow by 25% for 2 seconds.
Unseen Threat lasts until consumed and has no internal cooldown.


Amazing passive. remember to utilize this in lane when you trade. you can refresh it by going behind the mid lane walls or just going into the bushes. you can actually check if the bushes are warded by going into them and seeing if it refreshes your passive or not.
Taste Their Fear
PASSIVE: Kha'Zix marks enemies that are isolated from their allies.
ACTIVE: Kha'Zix slashes, dealing physical damage to a single enemy. If the target was isolated, the damage dealt is increased by 45%.
[b]RANGE: 325 (375 with Evolved Enlarged Claws) COOLDOWN: 3.5 COST: 25 MANA
PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 / 190 (+ 150% bonus AD)
DAMAGE TO ISOLATED TARGET: 101.5 / 145 / 188.5 / 232 / 275.5 (+ 217.5% bonus AD)


Your bread & butter for dps and damage. Spam this onto the enemy whenever they come for CS if they are melee champions. You can attempt to cheese at level 2 if they get isolated because of the insane damage. This is where all your DPS comes from. Never underestimate how much damage you can do to an isolated target, it is pretty insane

EVOLVED
Increases range of Taste Their Fear and autoattacks by 50. Additionally, Taste Their Fear now deals an additional 8% of the target's missing health as bonus damage (max 200 vs monsters). Against isolated targets this damage is increased by 45% to 11.6% of missing health.


This makes you have incredible dragon control through the % health damage. The increased range is very useful for finishing off stragglers and harassing in lane.
Void Spike
RANGE: 1000 COOLDOWN: 8 COST: 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 MANA
ACTIVE: Kha'Zix fires a cluster of spikes in a line that explode on contact with an enemy, dealing physical damage to all nearby enemies and slowing them by 20% for 2 seconds. Kha'Zix is healed if he is within the explosion radius.
PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 75 / 115 / 155 / 195 / 235 (+ 100% bonus AD)
HEAL: 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+ 50% AP)


Most important skill for laning. The heal goes up to huge amounts and the damage is very high. if possible you can W before jumping into the air to have everything land on arrival. risky, but possible. if you can't do that just use it after you auto attack to land your passive, and get an easier hit.

EVOLVED
Enhances Void Spike to fire three spikes in a cone and increases the slow to 30%. Multiple explosions upon the same enemy do not deal extra damage.


Not a very useful evolution since it gives you no bonus damage at all, but the increased radius and slow make it an excelent evolution for teamfight harassing. Note that it doesn't increase the range.
Leap
RANGE: 600 (900 with Evolved Wings) COOLDOWN: 22 / 20 / 18 / 16 / 14 COST: 50 MANA
ACTIVE: Kha'Zix leaps to an area, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies upon landing.
PHYSICAL DAMAGE: 65 / 100 / 135 / 170 / 205 (+ 80% bonus AD)


THE GRASSHOPPA! Pre-11 its just a casual gap closer, which becomes a terror for the enemy team when you evolve it. The cooldown early is relatively high so you need to be very careful when you are using this in lane, you must have good judgment when to use this else you might have some unexpected ganks coming.

EVOLVE
Increases Leap's range by 300, and causes kills and assists scored by Kha'Zix to refresh Leap's cooldown.


This is the most important part to understand about teamfighting as kha'zix. When to go in to get that refresh, and when to not. The bonus range makes this one of the longest range gap closers in the game (not targeted)
Void Assault
COOLDOWN: 100 / 90 / 80COST: 100 MANA
PASSIVE: Each rank of Void Assault allows Kha'Zix to evolve one of his abilities, granting it an additional effect.
ACTIVE: Kha'Zix enters stealth for 1 second, gaining 40% bonus movement speed while stealthed. Unseen Threat is also granted (even if Kha'Zix is revealed through stealth). Void Assault can be cast a second time within 10 seconds at no cost.


An amazing skill. the movespeed bonus together with the short invisibility disrupts the flow of the enemy and helps you have the upper hand in the fight. The 1 second invisibility part of this skill seems like a very small amount of time to be invisible but you can think of it as -1 second cooldown on your + activating + keeping you safe for a bit to think what you want to do all that multiplied by 2 OR 3 times depending if you had evolved at that time. So lets say you have a duel mid and you are both half HP, you use + (if this is not on cooldown already) and auto attack, and then you ult right away. He will panic for 0.5 seconds and you both start thinking about what to do next, however you have the upper hand because you can see him but he can't, then you just go auto attack him to proc and after 1 second is up again and you repeat this for as many ult stacks you have.

EVOLVED
Allows Void Assault to be cast up to three times. Kha'Zix takes 50% reduced damage while in stealth.

50% reduced damage! that is huge! Try to use ultimate while you are about to get hit by something to reduce the damage by half. an example about how overpowering this is:
Veigar with 300 ap ults you for 500+360=860 damage. you use ult and it hits you for only 430, instead of the original 860(disregarding resists, but the point stays) that is a huge difference! never underestimate it!

This is a very even matchup. You can attempt a level 2 cheese, but i do not reccommend going because she will probably level at level 2 and completely negate your all-in. If you get hit by charm you will lose every trade, so try to spare your until she uses her .

TIP: There is a 1-2 second downtime between ult casts. this is the best time to ensure you hit your and maximize your damage. you can dodge her and damage by using so it hits minion. (hard!) remember that it will lock on so using after the bolt is already on its way won't help, but you can use it before so it targets a minion and wears off!

Congratulations. You are officially playing against the second(fu )most annoying champion in the game. Luckily, he does not counter you as you really don't have anything for him to dodge, but is still annoying. The key to this match-up is to spam every. single. time. he goes up to last hit in melee range. He has a limited amount of pots, while you can essentially do it forever, as long as you don't need to use any other abilites. Try to follow his roam whenever you can so he does not catch up from the laning phase. make your jungler camp and SHUT. HIM. DOWN!

TIP: costs A LOT of mana early game, and he will run oom quickly. So try to abuse that!

Katarina is a very skill dependent matchup. If she plays very safe level 1-4, then plays passive/aggressive with , it can be hard to follow up because the range on her outranges your and gives movespeed. However, she has no way of stopping your level 2 all in if she takes at level 2. If you see that she has at level 2, pop your and murder her. Care her survivability and early zhonyas when you all in her! Always follow her roam so that she doesn't snowball.

TIP: Katarina has a clear animation when she casts . Most katarina players will combo . Since her has an animation and out ranges all her other skills, you can use to stop her from following up her combo since she won't get off. If she on the ground because she expected to shunpo you, try to counter attack(only if she is maxing , or you feel you can kill her anyways)

Okay, this one is a real bitch. There is two ways to play versus kayle. one is being her bitch and taking level one + and farming from range all day, or taking and level 2 cheesing her. if you fail this cheese you will get trashed on because you have no way of sustaining her harass and you will probably die, but if you win it you can go really hard on her every time she goes for CS since her range isn't that high and has a down time. Beware her every time you go in, and remember its cooldown is LOWER than your !

TIP: Try to fight her in the downtime for her . Until she gets a cdr item her has a 6 second downtime. abuse this!
Lissandra

Lissandra is one of the hardest matchups for kha'zix because you will never be able to touch her. Put a point into at level one and focus only on farming, until blue buff. after blue buff push mid and roam or take wraiths. She is a pain in the ass, but you can endure it if you play correctly. in teamfights don't jump in until she has used her ultimate. Build hexdrinker before last whisper if feeding.

Nidalee is an extremely easy matchup, but if she gets a ton of jungle ganks and snowballs your team is fucked because nidalee is broken. but as kha'zix you can cheese her at level 2 and instantly dumpster her. Consider taking if you feel like a man! If you are indeed feeling like a man, you can even take CDR glyphs if the enemy team doesn't have an AP top or jungle.

TIP: Same as with zed, when she turns into cougar to combo you use to negate her melee form execute.

Skill matchup. Both you and riven snowball really hard, which makes this match-up very risky. If you kill her early you can kill her, and if she kills you early she can dumpster you. There is a lot of room to outplay in this match-up and there isn't much i can say to help you. Be wary of her damage, but don't be overly passive. your level two is just as strong as hers, especially if you go fort pot, and she doesn't.

Her early game harass can be very difficult to handle, and like ahri she can deny your level 2 cheese with her . Consider taking at level one to negate her insane level one harass capabilities. 100% farm lane here

TIP: Her and have huge cooldowns early game. try to abuse these if she uses them to farm.

This matchup can either be really easy, or really hard. if he gets an early kill on you(which he shouldn't if you started ), then he can dumpster you by hitting 6 before you. otherwise you should be able to trash all over him. he should never be able to outtrade you because you have good sustain with and more early game damage. beware of his level 6 burst combo!

TIP: When you see him start up wait until he lands on you and use and move out of the way so the only way for him to get his actual burst combo on you is to either flash or hit them from range, which is much harder.

Early game he is a lot like syndra. He establishes laning phase dominance through intense harass (), safety() and semi-global presence(). however, unlike syndra he does not have insane burst mid game. it is high, but yours is higher and you should be able to kill him often unless he rushes zhonyas. Try to get your jungler to gank him early game so that you can deny ziggs free farm.

TIPS: Late game when you are level 16 and have evolved your , you can practically negate half the damage on his burst combo because its very obvious when he is initiating it. If you see he is about to cast his or used + , use ult and you will block his AOE burst easily, causing him to be very vulnerable and you can attempt to kill him.

Early Game

The moment you get blue buff start taking wraiths whenever you can.

Melee Mids
AGGRESSION IS THE WORD OF THE DAY! Be aggressive from level one and onwards. spam whenever they go for CS, but try to not auto attack so that you dont get minion aggro. You should be able to out trade them in melee range with the heal from .

Ranged Mids
Versus ranged opponents that are tanky and/or have a lot of cc and counter () take at level one to start safe farming, in all-in matchups() try to kill them early, but still take flask. otherwise ranged opponents is more of a farm game.

Level 2 Cheese?
Kha'zix is extremely potent at killing the opponent at level 2. If you are versus a melee mid you should have started with a , but you dont need this to all in at level 2. if you have fort pot you should definitely try if they give you the chance. even if you feel uncomfortable. Versus ranged opponents it may be risky because you risk dying to minions. try to hit level 2 before the opponent by auto attacking the melee creeps 1-2 times each. this makes you get the second wave first and get to level 2 before your opponent. and are godly.

Mid Game

Now is your time to shine!

For kha'zix mid game starts the moment he hits 11 and evolves . At this point you should have . Camp bot, and try to pick up stragglers. You can probably 1v1 anybody in the game when you have blue. if you don't have those 3 items, try to farm up enough gold for them, because you won't truly shine until you have them.

Kha'zix is also the absolute best mid laner for dragon with evolved . You can try to sneak it together with your jungler very fast, so ask your jungler to keep it permanently pinked! Dont be afraid to towerdive bot together with your jungler either. you have amazing clean-up potential, and A LOT of damage. just try to not tank tower yourself and let your jungler do it :=)

Late Game

This is the time where baron fights start happening and in general lots of team fights. Pick targets before fights and have them as priorities, usually the order of your priorities is:

Kha'zix will start to fall off because he can't 1 shot everything but if you play your teamfight correctly, you will be able to do the same as you did before. i will explain how in the next chapter.

Teamfights

ADC > MID > SUPPORT > TOP/JUNG

There are exceptions. Sometimes the mid laner is out of position, or just overfed and the adc is the worse choice. You need to make quick judgements, which is the KEY to teamfighting with Kha.

In team fights you play the role of an Assassin. You want to wait for the best time to go in and start cleaning up. You want to try to let your team bait out their ultimates or CC. You can't jump in without regard for major abilities like or . Åatience is the key to a good Kha'Zix player, remember that you are an assassin and extremely squishy, one mistake can cost you your life, and the game.

KILLING AD CARRIES

When killing ad carries you need to be very aware of your surroundings. You need to focus on killing him before the lulu can whimsy you, or wait unntill after the support has used her peel combo. Since most AD carries have only 1 or no escapes at all, you should be able to kill him before they get too far away, however beware of champions like

Conclusion

To conclude it all, Kha is a very versatile mid lane champion with several different build and skill orders to adapt to many match-ups. He is a champion very dependent on good decision making and being able to make quick decisions. Please leave constructive criticism and remember to vote!

Masteries, summoner spells, skills, some situational items and late game all need more information. Also, don't use tool images in the middle of sentences and don't curse in your guide. If you want to get featured, that is.

You didn't say anything about tear (pros cons/when to get it), and you didn't give your preference of evolve order, you just said they were all good. Id recommend fixing that, you aren't supposed to give reasons for why people do certain things on a champ. you are supposed to give reasons of why your preference gives better results than common beliefs. i recommend fixing the guide up

Just a note that your lane match ups are not put in the correct spots, this is especially confusing when you have fizz's lane match up replacing the conclusion section and katarina's replacing the team fight section. Very helpful guide overall though, thank you.
