Introduction

Hi,

I'm Metuni and currently playing LoL for at least 1 year.
Maining support because I personally like the utility it brings to the team.

Here's my guide about Thresh my Favorite champion!

Runes

First of all lets begin with the Marks:

Greater Mark of Armor:
I prefer choosing these marks when i'm up against a heavy AD poke lane.
Instead of getting AD or Armor-Pen runes this will also give you some more sustain in lane since you take less damage.
(You could also choose to go Hybrid-Pen Marks, but thats up to you)

Greater Seal of Armor:
I Always use Armor seals, because Seals give the most armor of all the runes.
(Either way get this because you will need the Armor)

Greater Glyph of Magic Resist:
You will just need the MR because most of the supports are AP-scaling,
so this will definately help you in the early stages of the game

Greater Quintessence of Health:
Just to get yourself extra beefy at lvl 1 and the early stages of the game

17 Utility
As for masteries i'd like to go 0-13-17.
More of a Hybrid build support.

Defense tree
A Must vs every ADC since you block 2 damage from Champion basic attacks
Increases your Bonus Armor and MR (Remember that it increases BONUS armor/mr not your standard armor/mr)
This is another 1 damage you block from Champion basic attacks
The mastery explains it all, Extra health (on top of your Quintessences for some extra beefynes)

I'm putting 1 extra point in here since i already have 21 Armor trough my runes

Now onto the Utility tree
+3 Extra mana regen will be quite usefull since hooks are at an expensive mana price
Usefull in whatever trinket you take
This means you'll have an 10% Cooldown on your Flash/Ignite or Exhaust. Your carry will be happy
how usefull can it be when your pots are healing a bit longer then usual!
1,5 gold Extra every 10 seconds
This mastery is often misunderstood, it will give you an additional 20 health and 10 mana on consumption, so when you use 1 of these, it will give you the 150 health you normally get from health potions + the extra 20 health And 10 mana
This mastery is so incredibly usefull since it will give you 1 gold for every minion your lane partner is killing.
You will need the extra 40 gold to start with, I'll explain later why.
9 out of 10 times your adc will get ahead of you in terms of levels/Experience. when this occurs this mastery will help you get back to the same level a bit faster since you get 10 experience every 10 seconds while you're near a higher level allied champion (this doesn't mean that it only works with your adc, it works with every allied champion)

Summoner Sets

Ignite & Flash
I usually use ignite since i'm quite aggresive in lane as thresh,
but you could also run exhaust if you prefer to negate the damage your carry will get from the opponents assasin's/carry's

Item Builds

Together with your 40 extra starting gold you will begin the lane with these items:
Pink ward
In S4 the pinks will last untill killed, so place them in brushes people normally won't look into.
but that its still usefull to place it

Green ward
This explains itself.

Health potions
The reason I choose 5 Health potions is because I can stay longer in lane if necessary,
+ I can also take a bit more poke from the opponents if I make a misstep

Sweeping trinket
I always get this because you don't need the free ward since you just buy 3 greens and 1 pink.
you can easily gain vision control with the 3 greens/1 pink + you can sweep the opponents wards wich means more vision control :D
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
It totally depends what kind of lane you're into

Lets say you're running duoQ with your mate.
the best thing in my opinion is getting Targons

Why? because it will give you and your carry more gold.
but you have to talk with your adc first and get some agreements before doing this. since you will get some farm and he needs to understand that.

You can also use the other 2 gold items

or


but thats everyone's choice.

Furthermore your build will depend on your opponents.
if the enemy team has 4 AP champions and 1 AD
then you should take a look in the MR section of the store
this also means vice versa ofcourse.
Build Order
3 5
The first 3 items are your standard beginning items wich you will go in lane to.

the items that follow it up are the items that I buy as soon as I can.

in my opinion these are the items you will need in the first minutes of the game.
especially the
because in S4 you can just place 3 wards and you will still have 1 left to place whenever a ward runs out.

Remember guys,
your build is always situational, and depending on the opponents team.
feel free to build whatever you like.

if you like a bit more of a damage dealing thresh you can try to buy some AP tank items like



Skill Order

This skill should be upgraded when you know you have an advantage in lane and you want to grab some kills

(W) Dark Passage

This skill should be upgraded when you have more of a passive/farming lane because you could use the extra shield effectiveness when you're in such a lane

Skills

Damnation
This is Thresh's Passive,

and its pretty cool since you want to grab as many souls as possible (like a minigame)

but its important to not get baited into taking souls.
sometimes its better to leave some souls and play safe instead of going there and end up getting killed

This passive has another cool thing, because it also has a passive for Thresh's ''E''

When you aren't attacking something, you get an increased damage buff for your next attack.
This will be displayed in your 'Buff bar' wich is above your skillset.
it goes from Green to Yellow to Red

When it is Red your next auto attack will deal increased damage (you will notice that for sure)
and the damage will get higher as you stack up those souls
Death Sentence
This is the scariest thing in Thresh's kit.

but be aware that you are not randomly using your 'Q'
since it has quite a long cooldown, you might want to be patient and wait for the 'Death grab'
Dark Passage
Thresh's his soul collecting lantern.
wich can be used to

- Pick up souls wich are behind enemy lines
- Pick up allied champions who got caught out
- Giving a shield to where you place the lantern
- Some extra vision if you're scared.

Be aware that this skill also has quite a long cooldown! so don't use it recklessly
Flay
The flay,

Wich can be used in 2 directions,
you either Pull the enemy champions a bit to you
or you can push them a bit back and slow them.

You can also interupt things like
his + Combo!
The Box
The Box.

Great when combining it with your Hook.

- Hook an enemy
- Press Q again (you go to your enemy)
- Place the Box!
- And use your E to make sure the enemy hits it (it gives a 99% slow for a second or 2)

Remember that the box doesn't slow your enemy to 3% movement speed
since the lowest you can go is 110%

Early Game

In the Early game you might wanna sit back for a bit (until you get lvl 2 or lvl 3)

- You could try to get an Auto Attack on the enemy ADC since you have your Passive (Extra magic Damage on the next auto attack)

When you're at that point try to position yourself in a Bush
(also sweep it)

this will give a bit of a threat to the enemy because they can't see you directly.

as soon as you see an opening try to Grab him with your 'Q'
and Reel in to get an E and your ADC should be able to do the rest

But Don't be upset when it doesn't give you a kill!
It's also usefull when you push the enemy out of lane.

Teamfights

Teamfights,

this is the point where a Thresh will shine once again.
Try to position yourself in a flank (if you can)

so that you can grab the enemy ADC/ AP carry
As soon as 1 of your hooks land ,
- Reel in
- Place the Box
- Use E in the direction of your teammates
- Use W to try to stay alive.

as soon as you did this (Don't bother if you're not the one engaging tho)
you should go back to your ADC and try to Peel the enemy off who are trying to kill him

Conclusion

I hope you will have some fun playing with thresh wich I always do!

Remember it's not always about getting kills
sometimes pushing the enemy out of lane to get a tower/dragon is always better.

But above all
