Introduction

Aside from being a jungle fiddle main, i also main jax top. From climbing to diamond on two accounts, i didn't always get to jungle, so i decided to learn and play . He is insanely fun and his very strong. If you wanna just squat on kids in ranked, i'd highly suggest playing . He is a very snowball champion to play, and he is always strong in my opinion. Weather your in wood league fending off the thirsty trolls of paper league, or in plat 1 at 99lp fending off the diamond 5 trolls who just do what ever the hell the pro streamers do that day, is always powerful. <3 this guy

Brute force

I prefer these runes mainly because top lane is all about trades. If you play top lane often, this should be obvious to you. Starting with so much damage is great on mainly because he has which is just a beautiful steroid that wrecks peoples faces throughout the entire game. I love the Scaling MR because for one, you scale into mid game/late game harder because more mr shuts out there ap carries, and also it helps against champs that do pick ap tops. Starting now, on 4/5/2014, i started to run Scaling armor, because regular armor runes just got hit in the shins with a nerf bat by the riot/kappa police.

I love running these masteries, i'm very tanky and can make trades much better as . I start and just dominate at level 1 immediately. Running full 21/9/0 jax i feel like is a bad idea, mainly because top laners get camped a lot, especially a jax because they know he snowballs pretty damn hard. i know some people put points into and id say its a good idea, but you lose tankyness from it.

Summoner Sets

Flash & Ignite
Very common and very strong for jax. in sticky situations, i prefer over mainly because if i use , i can just go over a wall, or dodge an ult, or make a play. With ghost, i don't feel like its as powerful because already has good movement speed and has a good kit for escaping.

i always start this, unless they have an Ap top lane, thats like heavy ap like , i might start long sword 3 pots, i will almost always start this. i Fear the adc more then i fear a top laner. i also build tanky for the Ad so i focus the squishy ap carries in fights generally.

For the second start, i typically go that against a vlad, and then rush then a leading into a .

Standard Final Items
I love going this build. The CDR from is amazing with s abilities. Spamming more after all is always good. Aside from that, i love getting as a first item mainly because it beneficial for both the Ad and the ap on . It is also amazing with his kit, has a short cd, and with each physical hit, it reduces the Cd by 3 seconds, on top of that, each single target spell reduces it by 3 seconds aswell. With that, you get his natural steroid = awesomeness. Attacking even faster, and shorter CD's from make it even better and more op. With your full combo, you can reduce the CD on by about 18-21 seconds, because you have have to auto to use , and that counts as a regular auto attack, and you're also using a single target spell, so each time you use , cd reduces by 6 seconds. I also sometimes sub out for a if i want tank and some damage ( burning passive of sunfire )

If they have more AP then Ad, then i'd get and Sub out the Frozen Heart for a . i love having and akways, but they can be subbed out to your liking of course or what ever your team needs you to be.
Build Order
This is just the standard way i build as i progress through itemization. I prefer to get first out of because it gives you good sustain/ has that nice spell built in. Now i get asked a lot why i prefer I get over , and its its because you can use more times in a duel then you can use the blade. After my gunblade, i get right afterwords because its amazing with , like you get amazing burst because of the sheen passive , stacking that on top of the , is truly outrageous. on top of that? you will wreck kids. I like getting afterwords because with all that damage, people are going to start focusing you, and there gonna have to otherwise you'll wreck shop. afterwords to add that tankyness and the slow from using its active. Then for Cdr/armor. The 20% attack speed debuff is quite nice when your in a team fight as well.

Situational Items

Spirit Visage
An all around good item on jax, i prefer to only get this if they have massive AP champs like . its amazing, and once again i'd replace GA for it.
Banshee's Veil
A good item. I'd typically get this once again if they have a good ap comp, but mostly if they have a because i like to tank for my teams, and id prefer to be in the front line with a to block the first spear rather then have someone on my team get chunked.
Blade of the Ruined King
A decent item against heavy tanky teams, but once again, i prefer over it. with i can use it REPEATEDLY for my carries, while bork, i can only use once in a fight. Now i like bork, but only if they have champs like otherwise i'd never really be concerned with getting it.
Guinsoo's Rageblade
Really fun item if you're going Hybrid jax, if you get this, you want for sure, but also ( switch GA out for mallot) Now for having mallot, the idea is to always keep your stacks on your passive active, and the rageblade aswell. So they'd really never get away, and you're doing max damage.
Ravenous Hydra
I like this item for early game wave clear, but i dont recommend it for late game mostly because it doesn't really fit s play style. He is mostly single target duelists, and this item doesn't fit into his category to me because, id rather have or a . Hydra just feels like a farming item. I honestly don't think should have any issues farming.
Sunfire Cape
I love this item. After getting i sometimes get this item if i want some more damage ( burn from sunfire ) and armor/hp. i don't get this item as much, but i'd get it as a second item typically if i'm starting to lose lane.
Frozen Heart
Always, ALWAYS a great item for . Helps him win duels more, and because of its passive, its beneficial to your team. Love the CDR and armor it offers especially.
Last Whisper
I would only recommend getting this item if the enemy team is a mass majority of armor heavy champs..like or , But then again, you can just go more towards the AP side and not have to worry about armor at all.
Maw of Malmortius
Lovely item if they have retard strong AP champions like ,,. Nice little shield it has when you get chunked, a decent passive, and the damage is just nice.
Frozen Mallet
Awesome item if you have trouble sticking to people, ( , , for example ) also gives you a good amount of Hp, moderate damage.
Thornmail
A fantastic item once again, against heavy AD of course, but i would really prefer over Thornmail because i get the 20% CDR, and the Attack damage de-buff from it. is non-selfish and more useful for the team, where as is selfish and only benefits you.
Infinity Edge
No. lol. I would Never, ever get this on . Pretty much no reason to get it. You're a Hybrid champion, you want Hybrid items lol, isn't an item for you, its more of an item for a .
Iceborn Gauntlet
Recently i've seen some players rush this as a second or 3rd item, and i can't say i'd agree with it. It is just an awkward item. After getting , id rush a leading into an eventual where i can just squat on kids. If im losing lane, and i already have components to a , i would rather rush for a rather then a .
Guardian Angel
I will always get this as a 3rd item for jax. I know that after my first item , and second item , ill start getting focused more and is perfect.

Skills

Relentless Assault
Is a beautiful steroid for jax, increasing his attack speed with each auto stacking up to 6 times.. it helps proc so much faster, and is just overall very nice.
Leap Strike
First spell to typically max on unless the enemy team is stacking/ starts out with a lot of armor, then max . This is the spell to initiate with while using at the same time. as you land, you press again to end the effect and stun them.
Empower
A good spell for causing another auto but more powerful basically, it makes trades go much better for .
Counter Strike
Aoe stun in a small area around , the first spell you should always get on him. Very good for catching people out or initiating fights with a then .
Grandmaster's Might
With every 3rd auto attack does magic damage. If activated it gives more armor and magic resistance.

Bully him level 1, pretty much the same as except you rush before , after those two items are complete, i'd get to stunt his attack speed. Get asap, then get and build anything you feel is needed, or your team needs.

Another good match up against . Bully him at level 1 immediately and don't fight on creeps when is down. Asoon as he hits level 2, he should have 1 point in and his second point in . If you chase him and try to counter strike, a smart darius will use his as your counter strike is coming to an end. When he pulls you, it'll delay you from doing any damage to him. you should still get an auto off but that's not nearly as much as you could get if you just while have active and stun as soon as you land. Get first item but still rush then get . at level 6 he can start doing a lot more with his ult . just win 1-5 and you shouldn't have a problem. Late game you dominate him anyways.

A pretty damn good opponent for i'd say. She has fantastic lane sustain and good countering abilities. You need to bully her before she hits 2, and if you get her to half hp or so, and cheese her, you should kill her. you still need to beat her. Most irelias start then get at level 2, for farming mostly. At 3 they get a majority of the time. So beating her at level 1-2 is pretty key. You still rush against her, if she gets bork, its definitely in your favor. I just did that match up today, she had while i had , and throughout the duel, i used twice while she only used her once.

Bully him level 1 a lot with . Level 2 you can cheese him, but not on minions. if he builds armor, get , if he builds damage, get . get against him for sure. He also falls off late game horribly, so its definitely in your favor. I Generally will always rush Gunblade. it is my favorite item on jax right along with tri-force, but a majority of newer jax players should definitely get first over gunblade.

Annoying match-up. Max against him, unless he has more MR then armor. Just farm, if you want to try to kill him, you have to do it pre 6. Start it out at level one by autoing him then useing as he tries to run back to his turret ( if he doesn't then get away of any minions near by to avoid taking un-necessary damage ) and this is a case i'd probably rush and then get mercs/ Hex drinker.

Hardest match-up for in my opinion. He has great built in sustain and good trading abilities. Aside from that, he has a better built-in escape. Beating is always annoying, i'd rush against him if he gets a right away, otherwise stick to the plan and get . bullying him at level 1 is always the easiest way to beat him before level 6. Start and just chase him around and beat him with your stick. Level 2, get of course, but now you need to know if he has more armor or MR first. if he has more mr, then max . After getting then proceed to . Then get tanky items, like or even are great on .

Best not be chasin this bastard. you can poke him down more once your level two, especially with then , even at level one you can bully him with but he will be able to trade equally with unless you get out of his poison trail fast enough and don't fight on minions.

Late game singed is pretty trash, everyone has enough life steal or sustain to just ignore him. He might become unkillable late game, but that doesn't mean his squishy carries aren't.

Early Game

1:30-15 min: Survive laneing phase, focus on farming and if your lane leaves, push and take that turret asap. Try to farm jungle if you have the opportunity and gank mid when you can. Should have Hex and merc done by now, working for cutlass components possibly. If you are behind, its smart to just get tanky and then focus on getting your core items later, for example i might get / ( depends on if i'm laning against AD or AP ) and then i might just get a then followed up by a . For the , always get first, then the .

Mid Game

20-30 min: Focus the squishiest target, farm that person, and get rich. Farm lanes and jungle more, team fight when you can, and focus on taking objectives. Should have components by now, cutlass as bare-minimum or if your fed you should have . Should start 4th item if fed.

Late Game

30min+ Should have 5th item nearly done or even starting on sixth. If however you aren't to this point, you need to farm like crazy and try to be with your team as much as possible. Late game team fights are brutal, but there always a chance of getting rich off of them. Just focus carries from here on out even more.

Teamfights

Focus those carries especially, you'll tear through them like butter with this build and stick pretty easily. Being you're going to be the one who is balls deep on making plays happen and wrecking shop. killing the carries is always your first priority. Always remember to use asoon as you are on there Carries. Use on the ADC ( i prefer to kill him first just because he does more in my opinion ) or whom ever is more fed.

Conclusion

This is a champion i love to play, and know how to play very well. Out of all of the things i've built on him and tested, this is by far the most comfortable build i've had on him yet. I always enjoy theory crafting on , its definitely a good idea to test other things or switch this with that ect. but this is the most dominate build that i have seen so far.
