Introduction

I constantly get a lot of requests to play and to make a guide for LeBlanc, she seems really popular and people like watching/hearing about her so I decided to make a guide. I have been enjoying LeBlanc a lot the past couple of weeks, and I have had really good results with her in soloQ. LeBlanc is a really fun and versatile champion. She can both have heavy CC (2 CHAINZZZZ?!!) or do high burst. LeBlanc has one of the highest skillcaps in the game and incredible outplay potential which makes her really fun to play. I wanted to shed some light on how I play her, so I wanted to make this guide. I hope you can learn something from the guide. Please be understanding about my english since it is not my native language.

Runes

My standard page is very basic. This is probably the most standard AP mid page ever. Magic pen are the best marks unless you like running double pen, I just prefer Magicpen because it scales slightly better into lategame with other magic pen items. Armor yellows are just solid, I run them on every champion in every situation. There are just no other better altervatives in the current meta, so you should always be using them. Magic resist blues I use in most games, I would always use them if I am against an AP middle, and sometimes even use them against an AD mid if they have magic damage elsewhere. AP quints are the best quints for LeBlanc in my opinion, since she has high kill potential in lane and althrough the game. AP quints simply higher her damage, so she has an easier time killing people.

9 Utility
These masteries are pretty standard aswell. Get as much damage, penetration and CDR in the offense tree. I go 9 in the utillity tree, for movement speed, reduced summoner cooldowns and buff duration. There is not much more to say about these masteries since they are so standard on most AP carries.

Summoner Sets

Flash & Ignite
Flash and Ignite are both great summoner spells on LeBlanc. She's a high damage mage, and having Ignite often helps securing the kill. Flash is good for either catching someone or getting away. Flash is just an overall good summoner spell that I use on almost every mid champion.
Teleport & Ignite
This is the only other option of summoner spells in my opinion. I have never actually tried these myself, but I think Flash is way safer for competetive play, and this is more to snowball in SoloQ. This start is good in SoloQ since you can snowball your own lane with Ignite, and help the other lanes with teleport. Teleport got nerfed slightly with the Season 4 masteries, but is still a viable option.

Item Builds

Starting Build(s)
Dorans Ring
2
Flask
3
Dorans Ring: I always use this start since LeBlanc is a really strong early game champion and has a lot of kill potential so the extra AP allows her to kill people in lane. The mana regen is also extremely nice since I spam spells a lot in the early game to keep applying pressure on the enemy laner.

Flask: I used to do the flask start since I have seen a lot of good LeBlanc players doing it such as LeBlancShotGG. I always went back to Dorans Ring though, because I like the higher potential and mana regen. Sometimes I do get Flask after Dorans Ring if I am in a high harrass matchup like Kassadin.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
This is my final item build on LeBlanc. Starting from Sorceres shoes, they are the highest damage output shoes and increases my overall damage to champions so of course I use them. I get the scary Deathfire grasp + Deathcap + Void staff combo for maximum burst, since LeBlanc is a burst assassin, she needs to itemize towards as much AP as possible to be able to kill people althrough the game. After this I usually go Zhonyas, since it's such a great defensive item, and usually when it's done you will have your W back up to escape. As my last item I often go for either GA/QSS for defensive, or Liandrys/Morello for damage depending on what I need. Liandrys if they have HP stackers and Morello if they don't and I need CDR.
Build Order
2
I often gets double Dorans Rings for mana regen. I don't build any other mana regen items, so having the mana from the rings is great. After that I go for as much damage as possible with Sorc shoes and Deathfire grasp. Deathfire grasp is the perfect first major item for LeBlanc, since it increases her burst by a ton. Cooldown reduction is also good since her ult doesn't cost any mana, so the more it is up, the more you can spam it. Since LeBlanc is really good for killing champs more than farming like Orianna/Ziggs, I often build Void staff after my Deathfire Grasp for the magic penetration on champions, it gives more overall damage on champions if they have MR. If the enemy team has low MR you can go Deathcap after DFG. Then I build Deathcap for more AP, once you reach DFG + Deathcap + Void you will hit a major powerspike, and you'll be able to tear through even tanks with your combo. I usually get Zhonyas at this point unless I feel like a Quicksilver Sash is needed. Then as my very last item I often go for either GA/QSS for defensive, or Liandrys/Morello for damage depending on what I need. Liandrys if they have HP stackers and Morello if they don't and I need C DR.

My skill order on LeBlanc may seem weird to most, but after a bunch of texting this is the skill order I like the most. I always go 2 levels in Q and then max W for waveclear. The reason I didn't pick up LeBlanc ages ago was because I felt like her waveclear was lackluster. But LeBlanc has pretty decent waveclear if you max W. I felt like getting 2 levels in Q is really good early especially since you cannot always use W for damage and sometimes have to use it to even get close to your target. After that I have pretty much been sticking to this, and I really like it. It is also extremely hard for people to kill you when you buy CDR and max W, since you will have your Distortion up constantly. My level 1 spell depends on the matchup, if I am against a low harrass matchup where I can poke him down with Q, I start with Q level 1. If they have spells that I would want to dodge while doing damage I go W. It's pretty much 50/50 what I do. For example against Syndra I would go W and play safe whenever it's on cooldown, then use my W to not get hit by her Q and win the trade.

Skills

Mirror Image
LeBlanc passive is really good if used right. You can often juke people with the other clone pressing alt + rightclick to move the clone with you standing still, untill your W is back up. Be careful trying to juke using your passive if you have any buffs on you since they wont go to the buff, so they can see which one is the real one. Same with Ignite, if they apply Ignite on you before your passive pops, you will still have ignite on you and the clone wont.
Sigil of Silence
LeBlancs Sigil of Silence is a low cooldown good damage nuke if followed up with another spell. It's good for trading, bursting, and even lasthitting. The spell has a low cooldown and fairly low mana cost at low rank and can be spammed to harrass. Your normal spellcombo for trades will be Q -> W -> Autoattacks.
Distortion
Distortion is such a great spell. It's good for farming, escaping, juking, pushing. I can't express my love for this spell. I always max this on LeBlanc, because even though Q will give slightly higher poke, I think W is way more reliable. This spell is really good for juking especially paired with Mimic you can double jump and jump all the way back.
Ethereal Chains
Ethereal Chains is a great spell for setting up kills. It's insanely good for setting up ganks and catching people off guard. I think the hitbox of the chain is fairly big and pretty easy to land compared to other skillshots. If you have already used Distortion into them, Ethereal Chains is hard to miss and almost always a safe land.
Mimic
Here's where it gets tricky. Mimic has a lot of uses, it is most commonly used to Mimic your Sigil of Silence for high burst but has a lot of other good uses. The mimiced chain actually does just as much damage as Sigil of Silence, a lot of people don't know that and expect the Q to do more damage. So often in lane it's actually good to do double chain since you will have the time to let it connect. For fast bursting combos you will be using Q -> R of course. Mimicing distortion is mostly used for escaping but is also good if you have an enemy out of reach, the mimiced distortion with DFG will actually do high burst. Learn when to use which Mimiced abillity to be a great LeBlanc player.

Champion Matchups

Kassadin
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Kassadin and Syndra are the only matchups I feel that are hard for LeBlanc. Kassadins tankiness from his passive and his silence is hard to deal with. Most of the laning phase you will beat him though so make sure you take advantage of that. Especially before he gets his riftwalk you can kill him really easy with any kind of jungle support. Just be careful not to get silenced and bursted down later in the game, since there is not much room to be building magic resist before your core items on LeBlanc. I often find myself facing this matchup in scrims and it works out alright, but in SoloQ it's a lot harder.
Orianna
Difficulty
Favors You
Early game you have to be careful when she shields herself and goes for autoattacks. You have a really easy time setting up ganks which is why I think LeBlanc is great against champions like Orianna who lacks an escape for when junglers gank. Simply using Distortion forward into chain will net you an easy kill with your jungler in this matchup. You will often see Orianna running barrier in this matchup so you might have a hard time killing her. I do believe that if you get blue buff you will slowly wind her down. Remember to punish if she uses her shield at the wrong times.
Riven
Difficulty
Favors You
LeBlanc is great against Riven, since Riven always has to get up close to do damage. LeBlanc is best against champion who walks into her danger zone. When Rivens gets close enough so you can DFG > Q > R > W > E, you can pretty much instakill her later in the game even if she has Hexdrinker. In laning phase you just need to be careful to not get too close when you don't have your W up, and not to waste your spells on her shield constantly. After you have level 6 and blue buff, you should have complete control over this lane. Silence is also great against Riven since she wants to be spamming her abillities constantly.
Syndra
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
I think this matchup is only good against really skilled Syndra players. The problem is that she can cancel LeBlancs distortion with her E. So we need to counter this by having her already silenced with chain or mimiced ult. Syndra also has good poke early game with her low cooldown and high damage Q, which can really force LeBlanc down to her tower before she reaches her strong level 3-4. What I like to do is go W level one and not trade at all unless it's up, and even give up a few creeps early to not get destroyed.
Ziggs
Difficulty
Favors You
This matchup is a lot like the Orianna matchup but easier. Ziggs has no inbuilt sustain so you will slowly wind him down with your constant poking and burst. You can easily dodge his Q using your Distortion. Ziggs doesn't have anything else than his W to escape ganks, so you can get in melee range with W and then chain him, your chain will still be on him even if he jumps away. So you can set up easy ganks in this matchup aswell. Just be careful not to get poked down, and having him keeping range on you. He's an annoying yordle, but if you ever get close to him, you win!

Conclusion

Thank you for reading my guide :D I hope you learned a thing or two from reading to guide. I love playing LeBlanc and I hope you will too. See you in the Fields of Justice!

Okay, So I've been a LB main for the most part of 2013 and I've maxed w since the start. From the calculations I did a while back, maxing w is more beneficial and only puts you down 10 damage per combo (at any rank). I said it's more beneficial because it
1. Does more damage on its own (q requires activation from subsequent spells)
2. It is a limiting factor in the standard qw combo that is done in lane duo to its long cooldown.

That's why I found it to be much better for lb: more frequent poke and its higher uptime provides more escapability from ganks or all ins.

just 1 question, wouldnt maxing Q increase your damage output?

Very good guide but QsS is a better final item than GA for LB imho: Zhonya's + QsS with Distortion (and optional Flash) gets you out of the worst situations most of the times.
