Introduction

Hello guys! Lately I've been doing quite well with ahri at mid lane so I decided to make a guide for her. At first I was kinda afraid to play her because she has 2 skillshots (especially her e, which is really important) and I wasnt skilled enough to carry with her. So after practising with her a lot in every game mode I decided to give it a try and try to carry with her in ranked. When I found out her raw power and potential to carry games easily I said to myself yeah thats my champion to go! Now that I've played some games with her I can say for sure that first of all, she is really really strong (in both teamfights and 1v1 situations) and secondly, she has a really high roaming/ganking potential with a high rate of success. Ok so lets get started!

Runes

Magic penetration runes on Ahri are really important, in my opinion. Probably you haven't seen many people build early penetration (aside from sorc shoes) on her (some people think an early haunting guise helps a lot, I don't like it though) and that's the reason I picked magic penetration runes. Her q and w can out-trade the enemy mid laner if you are running the right amount of magic pen and if you manage to out-trade, you are going to have an easy time laning mid. The armor seals can be really useful against ad assasins like talon (major counterpick to Ahri) and zed (skilled matchup) and can prevent a lot of trouble especially at early games. The magic resist glyphs are really useful against ap champions with high burst like leblanc (another tough matchup for Ahri), Im a safe player overall that prefers to farm more instead of trading with enemy laner and thats the reason I picked such safe seals and glyphs (not getting harrassed so easily by enemy laner will definately reward you later on). Flat AP quints are useful for almost any mid lane ap champion and will help with farming, trading and poking.

9 Utility
Sorcery: core mastery for Ahri since she needs a lot of cdr, this mastery is core for almost every mid lane champion in my opinion.
Mental Force: scaling ap is always a nice plus to your stats.
Arcane Mastery: flat ap stat will help you farm better, trade better and poke/zone enemy laner!
Archmage: percentage (%) ap increase will help a lot too! (think of it as a mini rabadon's deathcup).
Dangerous Game: this mastery will help you survive during a teamfight, damage over time spells or effects (ignite/red buff) and its a must for people that prefer to play safe and dont risk to die and be greedy.
Arcane Blade: this mastery will help you a lot to farm since with it your auto attacks will deal additional magic damage (percentage of your ap), and you can also harass your opponent by auto attacking him.
Havoc: core damage increase mastery for every offensive champion.
Fleet of Foot: Ahri is a mobile mid lane champion and as stated above she can roam/gank pretty easily,safely and effectively so a buff to her movement speed is always a plus.
Meditation: lane sustain mana-regen mastery, allows you to use one or two additional spells before running out of mana.
Summoner's Insight: CDR to your summoner spells (flash and ignite), a must (in my opinion) for mid lane champions.
Runic Affinity: Some of you now might disagree while others will totally agree but i believe that having your blue buff last a little bit longer is always useful especially if your are still in laning phase, where you can harass your opponent without the fear of running out of mana fast and going back to base, therefore losing your tower and farm.
OPTIONAL MASTERY: If you still think you cant farm so well, consider taking a point in the Butcher mastery, it will help farming better.

Summoner Sets

Flash & Ignite
Major summoner spells for ahri. Pre 6 Ahri is really vulnerable to ganks especially from jungler with gap closing abilities or junglers with stealth (unfortunately her e hits only one target so that won't get your out of trouble 100%). Flash will always help you get away until you reach level 6 (unless you get camped) and will always allow you to do a nice combo of Flash + e and get in a fight or get out of a fight. Ignite will help you secure kills especially at early game and finish off fleeing enemies at mid/late game.
Flash & Teleport
Now this set I don't highly recommend unless you think you will get ganked (die or forced to back to heal) and must get back to lane as fast as possible to protect tower and dont miss any farm or/and unless you must make plays at every lane (top/bottom that is). Teleport allows you to gank once in a while, while your ultimate is down (will be much harder than a regular ulti-gank though).

Dorans ring and 2x health pot start: I believe that in the current meta this is the best way to start laning, as these items give you flat hp and ap, mana regen and health regeneration (lane sustain), therefore you can harass your opponent more effectively and winning trades.
Second Dorans ring: totally optional, I like though because it helps me farm easier and gives me more mana regen and hp.
Fiendish Codex: At this point enemies are thinking if you are a threat or not (you definately are). Anyway, this item buffs your ap and your cdr and is a great item for Ahri because Ahri really relies on raw ap and cdr (cdr especially for your ultimate).
Sorcerer's Shoes: Magic penetration that combines pretty well with your magic pen runes for some pretty nice damage that most enemies won't expect. I have seen people building cdr boots on her but I dont recommend doing so, cdr from Fiendish Codex is enough for now.
Deathfire Grasp: Core item for Ahri! Helps her to burst down squishy enemies more easily, raw ap buff to her stats and pretty nice cdr buff aswell.
Vision Trinket: keeps you safe for 60 seconds.

Deathfire Grasp: As stated above, this item is a really good item for Ahri because it provides Ahri with her most needed stats: AP and CDR and also helps her burst down squishy enemies like, for example, the adc of the enemy team.
Sorcerer's Shoes: Provides Ahri with a good amount of magic penetration and increases her damage.
Abyssal Scepter: Now this item is an item you will absolutely love on Ahri because, simply, it reduces the magic resistance of nearby enemies by 20. Combined with your ult ( for gap closing ) will make you look like a huge threat to enemy team and especially enemy adc and apc because you will blow them up in one combo. Also, this item will help you, with its magic resistance stat, if you are facing an ap champion.
Rabadon's Deathcup: a HUGE spike to your ap stat because not only it gives +120 ap but also 25% more ap of your current ap.
Void Staff: This item provides you with more magic penetration and combined with abyssal scepter, your magic penetration runes and your sorcerer's shoes will help you deal with tankier enemies. Also, it adds a nice buff to your ap stat.
Zhonyas Hourglass: in some cases you might think that its a core item for Ahri, in some cases you won't really need it. Anyway, I suggest it because it adds a lovely buff to your ap stat, to your armor (really useful if you are facing an ad champion) and its active use will help you avoid unnecessary damage and cc abilities (great example of its use is zed's deathmark).
IMPORTANT: If you are facing a hard cc champions at lane (like veigar etc.) you will probably have to go with mercury treads (tenacity= cc reduction). Penetration from runes only is probably enough for the time being to deal with them.
IMPORTANT 2: if you have trouble laning against ad champions and you are behind in lane (trying to farm under turret with the fear of getting dived and dying in a matter of seconds) you probably have to pick zhonyas hourglass as your first item.
Build Order
Deathfire Grasp is really useful early game as it gives Ahri her most needed stats (cdr and flat ap) and with its active you can burst someone down for an easy kill. Moving on to Sorc shoes, all of you know that its the core boots for ap champions (especially to champions with cdr items like Ahri with DFG). I dont like repeating myself but I advice you to never go cdr boots, Sorcerer's Shoes are the best boots for Ahri. Abyssal Scepter will help you reduce an enemy champion's magic resistance by 20,therefore it will help you kill enemies easier (example: enemy adc has 40 magic resist? with that item he will have only 20 so its gonna be easier to kill). Rabadon's Deathcup adds a lot of much needed ap to your stats. Void Staff provides you with a lot of penetration to help you kill tankier enemies. Zhonyas Hourglass is also a pretty nice boost to your ap stat and also protects you from a lot of cc and damage especially if you are the primary target of the enemy team and you have to get focused in fights. Also helps a lot, if you are laning against ad champions mid, like talon,riven and zed with either a big burst or decent poke.

Situational Items

Mercury's Treads
Highly recommended if the enemy team has a lot of cc. You really want to avoid getting locked down forever, therefore getting killed easily. One of Ahri's weaknesses is removing her mobility by either locking her down or making her unable to use her spells to get away.
Athene's Unholy Grail
Suggested only for people that can't farm with auto attacks and have to use spells for almost every single cs. Its mana regeneration is pretty good and will also help a lot if your jungler has to take all the blue buffs.
Rod of Ages
Adds hp and mana, suggested for people that are afraid to go in fights because they will get locked down by an enemy and die in a matter of seconds.
Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Adds a slow effect to enemies that gets hit by your skills. Have seen a lot of people building it, I still don't like it on Ahri. Totally, depends on your playstyle.

Orb of Deception should be maxed in all cases. Its her best damaging ability (considering magic damage on traveling towards enemy champion and true damage on traveling back to you). Fox-Fire is her second best damaging ability and its cooldown is being reduced on level up. Now about her Charm ability, its her taunt-slow, that either allows you to escape when being chased or allows you to get an easy kill. Like her Fox-Fire ability, Charm's cooldown is being reduced upon level up. Her ultimate Spirit Rush is her most important ability, in my opinion. Allows good setup for ganks, escapes, easy pick ups on squishy targets (combine ultimate with an immediately following e to kill an enemy almost 100%). The good thing about her ultimate and why I think its so great, is because it has 3 stacks with like 0 cooldown between them.

Skills

Essence Theft
Ahri gains a charge of Essence Theft whenever one of her spells hits an enemy. Upon reaching 9 charges, Ahri's next spell has 35% spell vamp. Her passive will increase your sustain at lane by a lot.
Orb of Deception
Active: Ahri sends out her orb, dealing magic damage, and pulls it back dealing true damage.

Cost 70/75/80/85/90 mana
Cooldown 7 seconds
Range 880
As stated above, this is your primary source of damage (especially the true damage it deals on its way back) so you should max this ability first. Good for poke, farming and trading.
Fox-Fire
Active: Ahri releases three fox-fires. After a short delay they lock on to nearby enemies prioritizing enemy champions, dealing magic damage. Additional fox-fires that hit the same target deal 50% damage.

Cost 60 mana
Cooldown 9/8/7/6/5 seconds
Range 800
Decent ability for trading, should be maxed second, after Orb of Deception.
Charm
Active: Ahri blows a kiss dealing magic damage and charming the first enemy it hits, causing them to walk harmlessly towards her for a few seconds while being slowed 50%.

Cost 50/65/80/95/110 mana
Cooldown 12 seconds
Range 975
This is the 1st ability that helps Ahri pick up squishy targets, escape from an enemy and ganking other lanes.
IMPORTANT: On patch 3.12 or 3.13 (can't remember exactly which one, sorry) when Ahri hits an enemy champion with her e, the target affected by it will take increased damage from her other abilities.
Spirit Rush
Active: Ahri dashes forward and fires essence bolts at 3 nearby enemies prioritizing enemy champions, dealing magic damage. Spirit Rush can be cast up to three times within 10 seconds before going on cooldown.

Cost 100 mana
Cooldown 110/95/80 seconds
Range 450
This ability is Ahri's ultimate. This is major ability that allows ahri to setup effective ganks, escaping fights, closing gaps to reach her target and be very mobile.

Champion Matchups

If you are a skilled Ahri, this is gonna be a fun match up for you. Annie is also a burst champion and can kill you in a matter of seconds. If she doesn't have her stun up, you will probably win the fight if you avoid her ultimate with your ultimate. She has decent poking power and laning phase (low mana costs, especially if she last hits with q).
Karthus

Pretty easy lane, you can easily avoid his poke, you can farm safely, you can kill him easily pre 6 and after 6 aswell. You shouldn't have problems laning against karthus at all, unless you get ganked and you fall behind in lane.
Kassadin

easy laning until 6... when he gets his ultimate you are gonna have a really hard time killing this champion. he also has a silence that is going to make things even harder for you. The only case you should try and go on this champion and kill him is only if you get a kill on him pre 6 (jungler gank or 1v1) or if he makes the mistake to farm using his ultimate and his q. Anyway, pretty tough match-up for Ahri and snowballs really hard if you dont play it correctly.
Leblanc

Really hard match up for Ahri, have played against good leblancs (got destroyed) and bad leblancs (won the lane but it was still kinda hard). Ok so, if you want to win your lane against LB you have to play really safe and farm as much as you can until mid/late game comes to the gates and the fights start taking place. She has a silence (if you get silenced you are pretty much not only useless but dead aswell) and really good burst and a lot of mobility (w-r). So overall, its gonna be hard to kill and gotta play safe.
Talon

Talon is an ad assasin mid lane champion with a silence that he gets at early levels. You are going to be harrased, out-traded and zoned out of lane if you dont play it safe and smart. When you are facing this champion with Ahri you should try and find opportunities to strike only when he uses his abilities to farm (except his e-silence) and then get back to the farming. Another hard matchup for Ahri and snowballs if its not played smart and correctly.

Early Game

Ahri's early game is not the best but its a lot better than other champions. Depending on the enemy champion, you either have to farm really hard and safely or earn some kills to get powerful. Your best bet to have a good mid/late game as Ahri is to farm very very good. If you are fed with cs enough and already have your DFG before laning phase ends, you can try and setup some ganks, therefore helping your laners and giving them additional gold. If you do so, your gonna have an easier time during late game because your teammates will be fed aswell and they will also be able to carry making it easier for you.

Mid Game

Ahri has a pretty good mid game. If you are ahead and already have your DFG and Abyssal Scepter then you can do a lot of stuff on the map, like helping other lanes win, securing objectives (turrets,dragon,buffs!). If you are behind, unfortunately, you have to continue farming to get some proper items to get in fights and be useful and you won't have the opportunity to help other laners and secure objectives.

Late Game

Ahri has one of the best late games I have seen. Terrifying burst, amazing wave clearing for sieging and can zone enemies pretty effectively too. If you are full build when you reach late game, you are gonna have an easy time but that always depends on enemies aswell. For example, if the enemy adc or apc gets fed from roaming, laning phase, farming (in one of my games i had to deal with a graves with 400 cs by 40 minutes that was 2 shotting everyone) and the enemies are peeling for their carry its not gonna be so easy to kill it but overall Ahri's late game is pretty good.Also make sure that you get blue buffs during late game, you probably want to cap cdr stat.

Teamfights

Your major targets are the ADC and the APC (depends on who is more useful). If the enemy carry is getting protected really hard its gonna be really really hard to kill it, its still achievable though.

Conclusion

So, this was my Ahri guide ladies and gents, hope you like it! As most of you already understood, im a decent player not very good though, i still do a lot of mistakes. I make the guide because I love Ahri and I wanted to share my thoughts on her with you! She is a very viable pick, carries hella hard and she is really fun.
