Introduction

Hello everyone and welcome to my first ever guide. In this guide we will be discussing Rumble, one of my main champions I play at the moment. I've played quite a few games with Rumble and feel I know how to beat many top laners, which is why I wish to share my knowledge with the community.

My name is Jordan, or xJordanSFCx, and I am a Silver III top/mid laner who has recently started playing ranked. You may think by my division that I don't have a lot of knowledge but I have spent countless hours watching streams and learning from the best, as well as constantly spamming normals to become better at this game.

Runes

I use Flat Magic Pen for increased damage, which especially helps early game. For my yellows, I take the standard Flat Armor for AD top laners and ADC's. I use Scaling MR blues for extra survivability and I take Flat Ability power Quintessences for some early game damage.

I prefer these runes as it gives you an all-round presence to the match. You have early game damage, extra Magic Pen and increased Magic Resist and Armor.

0 Utility
I take the standard 9-21-0 route since Rumble is a bruiser and can still dish out lots of damage whilst being quite tanky. I don't want to go into too much detail but this mastery page gives you a good amount of extra Ability Power whilst giving you extra health and armor.

Summoner Spells

Flash & Ignite
I take Flash and Ignite pretty much 100% of the time since it gives me an increased chance of killing my lane opponent, it also reduces healing for a few seconds which is good against champions with sustain such as Tryndamere/Nasus.
Flash & Teleport
Alternatively, you could also choose to exchange Ignite with Teleport if you feel that you wil need to help other lanes due to counterpicking etc, but in low elo, many people do not understand what counterpicking is so they will just play whatever champion the feel.

Teleport can slo help you get to teamfights quicker if you are at your base. This is a good strategy as your opponents may not expect you to be at the teamfight so you can catch them off guard.

Item Builds

Starting Build(s)
Start 1
Start 2
I would choose start 1 if I was against someone like Darius who will auto-attack you alot. The downside to this is that you only start with one Health Potion so you have pretty bad lane sustain. However, most of the time I would go with start 2 if I'm against someone like Riven who doesn't auto attack that much, I prefer this build as the cloth armor can go into a Seekers Armguard which can then go into a Zhonya's Hourglass which is part of your final build.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
This is my usual final build. Most of the time I don't get to the Rabadon's Deathcap, but when I do, you have around 500-600 AP and you drop squishies like it's nothing.
Build Order
This is my usual build order. After rushing Liandry's I get a Giant's bet for a bit of health and then go into Rylai's. After that, I get Seekers Armguard, for armor and AP which will then build into a Zhonyas. Once I have my Zhonyas, I go for a Void Staff and then into my final item, Rabadon's Deathcap.

Situational Items

Abyssal Scepter
Good item if you have many AP casters on your team. Lowers the MR of nearby enemies by 20 so it's good if you have a team around it, worthless if there is only 1-2 AP casters on your team.
Will of the Ancients
Good item if you need to stay in lane against someone with crazy sustain such as Yorick. Gives good AP and has 10% cooldown reduction which is decent. Not a core item though. I would maybe get this if I have an Akali on my team.

Junkyard Titan
QFlamespitter
WScrap Shield
EElectro-Harpoon
RThe Equalizer
This is how you want to kill your abilities. I always choose Electro-Harpoon first since Rumble is very weak 1-3 so champions such as tryndamere can utilise that weakness and stop you from farming very early on. Or, they could even all in you if they reach level 2 before you, so having that stacking slow at level one could save you from giving First Blood.

I max Flamespitter first since it is your main source of damage and is used to harass your lane opponent. Flamespitter does have some drawbacks, such as using it against a wave of minions will cause you to push your lane, which is bad for Rumble since one of his weaknesses is having little to no escape tool, the speed boost on Scrap Shield is barely noticeable and your only other escape tool is flash, which has a very long cooldown.

I max Electro Harpoon second for the added slow and extra damage, then I max Scrap Shield last, since the movement speed boost isn't amazingly useful.

Remember to always put a point into your ultimate whenever you can.

Abilities

Junkyard Titan
Every spell Rumble casts gives him Heat. when he reaches 50% Heat he reaches Danger Zone, granting all his abilities bonus effects. When he reaches 100% Heat, he starts Overheating, granting his basic attacks bonus damage, but making him unable to cast spells for a few seconds.

This passive has it's pros and cons. It's pros are that it makes him really good at 1v1'ing your enemy laner. However, sometimes you can overheat when you don't want to, for example, if you wanted to quickly clear a minion wave, you might spam all your abilities once, if you quickly use them again when they are off cooldown, you may start to overheat in front of your lane opponent, he might see that and, with the help of the jungler, can easily kill you.
Flamespitter
Rumble torches opponents in front of him, dealing magic damage in a cone for 3 seconds. While in Danger Zone this damage is increased by 50%

This ability is brilliant for bullying your opponent and harassing them out of lane. It is also a good wave clearer when in the Danger Zone. With it's 100% AP scaling, you can deal around 1k damage when you are full build in the Danger Zone, that's if your opponent stays in the cone for the full 3 seconds.
Scrap Shield
Rumble pulls up a shield, protecting him from damage and granting him a quick burst of speed. While in Danger Zone, the shield strength and speed bonus are increased.

This ability early game isn't that effective, but when it is maxed, it gives you a decent shield and burst of speed. You can't rely on this ability to save you every time, early game, you want to engage with your E-Q combo and then quickly disengage with Scrap Shield, to take as little damage as you can.
Electro-Harpoon
Rumble launches a taser, electrocuting his target with magic damage and slowing their movement speed. A second shot can be fired within 3 seconds. While in Danger Zone the damage and slow percentage is increased.

A really good harassing tool for Rumble and can also be used to farm from a distance if you are getting zoned. A really good stacking slowly which, synergised with Rylais Crystal Scepter, can give a crazy slow!
The Equalizer
Rumble fires off a group of rockets, creating a wall of flames that damages and slows enemies.

The Equaliser is, in my opinion, one of the best and game changing ults in the game at the moment. If you're losing a teamfight, but you correctly place one good Equaliser, the amount of damage your enemies will take will easily win you a teamfight. However, landing it correctly will take some practise, but when you do master Rumble and his ultimate, you will be glad you did.

Champion Matchups

Aatrox
Difficulty
Favors You
Shouldn't be too hard of a lane for you, the only problem is his decent sustain but if you are a good Rumble you should be able to deny him farm which will deny his sustain. The only thing you should be worried about is when he jumps into you, he is a very strong dueller so try to poke him a bit before engaging fully.
Akali
Difficulty
Favors You
Can go either way, but if she stays in lane and doesn't roam then it is an easy lane for you. You can deny her farm pre-6 and when she does reach level 6 and jumps into your face, you can easily harass her to disengage with her Shroud, a good tip for when she goes into her shroud is that you can flame spitter into her Shroud which will deal damage unless she reveals herself.
Chogath
Difficulty
Favors You
You shouldn't be losing this lane really, you can easily kite Cho'gath and his Rupture isn't too hard to dodge., Early game shouldn't be too much of a problem but you want to get at least one kill before he starts getting tanky as you won't be able to kill him. Ask your jungler for a gank when he becomes too tanky.
Darius
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Quite a hard lane for Rumble, Darius is a massive bully in lane and will deny you a lot of farm with his Q. Try to stay behind minions and farm as safely as possible. Do not push against him as if there jungler does appear behind you there is most probably no escape. All you can do is farm and maybe ask for a jungler gank if you feel he won't be able to take 2 of you on.
Drmundo
Difficulty
Favors You
Can go either way. If Mundo knows what he is doing, he will harass you without using too much mana and will just become tankier and tankier. Keep farming and poking until he is around half health, but beware of his ultimate, which gives him crazy health regen, which makes him pretty much impossible to kill. Just keep farming and wait till late game. Mundo is quite useless late game whereas you are one of the best late game champions.
Elise
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Can go either way, but in my opinion she has an edge. Max Flamespitter first as usual, but max your shield second to soak up as much of her poke as possible. When she tries to poke you, use scrap shield to absorb most of it and then try and trade with her. Be wary of her spider form as it hurts and make sure you are topped up with health potions at all times.
Fiora
Difficulty
Favors You
Shouldn't be a hard lane, you can easily deny her from farm with your Flamespitter and when she does go in for an all-in/trade, you can easily beat her with your constant poke and harass.
Gangplank
Difficulty
Favors You
Very easy for Rumble, When he goes in for a crit with his Parrley you can easily shield it and then harass the hell out of him. A very easy lane in which Gangplank won't be able to do much to you. Just care for ganks and remember to farm and be aggressive, farming is still and if not more important than getting kills.
Garen
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Can be a hard lane if Garen knows what he is doing. If he is smart and buys a hexdrinker then you most probably will not win this match-up. The only thing you can do is wait for him to engage with his Q and E combo, when that is finished and he is running back you can unleash all your abilities on him. However, if the Garen player is smart he will Q-E you but start retreating when his E is nearly over.
Irelia
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Hard lane for Rumble, if she just farms until lvl around lvl 4 she can easily trade with you. Ask your jungler for help on this one and keep farming from a safe distance. Luckily Irelia isn't played very often.
Jarvaniv
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
You MUST get early armor for this matchup. Jarvan hurts really bad early levels and that is when Rumble is weakest. Buy Ninja Tabi, Doran's Shield and Hextech Revolver early on to survive and keep farming. Jarvan is very mana-hungry early on so if he has low mana make sure to try and punish him for that.
Jax
Difficulty
Favors You
Can go either way, but favours Rumble in my opinion. Start with E, then Q. Poke Jax with your E, Jax doesn't do that much damage at all at lvl 2. You should be able to sustain through his jumps easily and if he keeps on doing it, he'll run out of mana. Your Q will keep going while you are stunned so you'll still do damage to him and should be able to out trade him. Also, if he starts his stun, just back up until it goes down. If he jumps on you before starting his stun, just W away.
Jayce
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Jayce has the edge in this matchup. He can outrun you if he is chasing and does a lot of damage in melee form. Definitely get Ninja Tabi's against him but make sure to get Hextech Revolver for the sustain. Put another point in your shield at around level 7 or earlier to survive some of more of his damage. Just keep farming and ask for jungler help if needs be.
Leesin
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Very hard lane in my opinion for Rumble. You cannot trade with Lee Sin, the only viable option is to maybe lane swap if it's possible or just farm under tower and maybe call for jungler help. Do NOT go in for a trade against him unless he is around 20%-30% health.
Malphite
Difficulty
Favors You
Easiest lane possible for Rumble. When Malphite goes to Q you, soak it up with you shield. Just wait until he is out of mana and then you can easily win a trade. Once you get a kill against him it's an easy snowball for you.
Nasus
Difficulty
Favors You
Nasus needs a lot of farm, and Rumble is incredibly good at denying him this farm. Nasus can't get close to the minions without risking damage from Flamespitter, and he can't trade blows with Rumble either, who blocks most of Siphoning Strike's damage with Scrap Shield. Again, wait till he is out of mana or has just used his Siphoning Strike and then an easy trade for you. Shouldn't be a hard lane.
Olaf
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
A good Olaf can capitalize on your mistakes and punish you really hard. However if you are able to farm your spell vamp you should be able to win against him quite easily. Poke him down when he tries to CS and kill him when he is low enough. Also ganking him pre-6 is usually quite effective. Can go either way.
Pantheon
Difficulty
Favors You
Anyone who is tanky will beat Pantheon. Early level he will probably harass you with his spears but just keep shielding the damage and focus on farming and poking him with your E. Once he is low enough, you can wait till he jumps on you and stuns you, and once his burst is over, you should be able to deal alot more damage than him whilst he is running. Keep doing this and you will win this matchup.
Renekton
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Can go either way, Renekton will have the advantage early on so be careful of an all-in if he reaches level 2 before you. Try not to trade with him as he will mostly come out better and has good sustain with his Q. Try to farm as much as possible and call for jungler help if you think you can kill him.
Rengar
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Quite hard lane for Rumble if the Rengar knows what he is doing. f Rengar is utilising the bushes to his advantage then there isn't much you can do other than farm by you tower. Keep your distance from the bushes and focus on farming if you don't want the enemy Rengar to get fed. He has crazy sustain and can deal so much damage if he feels like it.
Riven
Difficulty
Favors You
This is a skill match-up which I feel favours you, just focus on farming until you get your ultimate and wait for her to use one of her abilities, preferably her stun, once this is down, you can easily beat her 1v1. Be careful of an-all in at level 2 though as pro Riven players will use the level advantage to get first blood on you.
Shen
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Quite hard match-up for Rumble, Shen becomes very tanky later on and can easily win games for his team whilst still having a good early game. His shield can absorb most of your Flamespitter whilst his taunt and damage can easily make him win a trade. Don't bother trading with him and just focus on farming until mid-late game.
Singed
Difficulty
Favors You
Not too hard of a match-up for Rumble, when Singed goes in for a minion you can easily harass him with your Flamespitter. Everytime he tries to poison a wave of your minions, stop him with E-Q harass. If he tries to run at you and fling you, Scrap Shield away whilst kiting with your E, then follow up with Flamespitter if he runs back to his tower.
Teemo
Difficulty
Favors You
Can go either way if the Teemo plays it right, but I give Rumble the edge in this match-up. Levels 1-3, you should try to harass him as much as possible with taking as much damage, you should be able to deny him farm until he gets his full combo. He shouldn't be killing you without jungler assistance but if knows what he is doing by running out of the bush and poking you then just try and farm as much as you can and wait for jungler help.
Tryndamere
Difficulty
Favors You
Everytime I play against a Tryndamere I completely wreck them. Once you get to level 3 you can start harassing him and poking him. Be careful of a level 2 all-in as Tryndamere is really good at killing people super early. This match-up just gets easier and easier as the game goes along, but you just have to hope that he doesn't get kills from other lanes as that is when it turns ugly.
Vladimir
Difficulty
Favors You
Again, quite an easy lane, keep farming until you get level 3 and keep on harassing and poking him. The only problem is that he has crazy sustain so it will be incredibly hard to klll him without jungler help. The best you can do is deny him from farm and keep forcing him to recall.
Wukong
Difficulty
Favors You
Can go either way if the Wukong isn't that skilled, but definitely favours you. Farm until level 3, and when Wukong jumps into you, use Scrap shield to absorb most of his Q damage and then follow him up when he is invisible with Flamespitter. If the wukong keeps on trying to jump you then it's an easy lane for you. plus, if he keeps doing that combo he will run out of mana after 2 tries, so you can't really lose.
Yorick
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Nothing you can really do in this lane. Yorick counters most top laners. He can deny you farm, does quite a lot of damage and is unkillable. This causes your jungler to babysit top which leaves other lanes exposed. The only option you can do is either lane swap or just leave the game. You won't win this match-up. But if you do end up winning, then I salute you.

Early Game

At early game, you just want to stay safe and farm as much as possible until you reach level 3-4, this is when you can start being a bit more aggressive and when you can start bullying your opponent. You should be careful of levels 1 and and 2 since many champions such as Tryndamere and Riven can kill you if they reach level 2 before you or all-in you with a surprise attack from the bushes at level 1.

Mid Game

Mid Game is when you should focus on trying to get some teamfights started by ordering your team to push a lane (preferably mid). This is because you should have your Liandry's Torment, Sorc boots and maybe Rylai's if you are ahead. This means your ult will do crazy damage in a teamfight when placed right and you should win your teamfight if there ADC is not completely fed.

If you don't want to start teamfights yet, you can look for any enemies who are over-extending and go in for a kill. Since around levels 7-9 you are very deadly and should be at least a level ahead of their ADC.

Late Game

If your game continues to late game, you want to group with your team and be very cautious of where the enemy are. Since you are around level 16+, the death timers are around the 55 second mark which means you dying could cost your team the game. With Rumble, you want to force objectives such as inhibitors to make your opponents even weaker. Also, getting Baron or even Dragon are very good as it gives your team more gold to complete your builds.

MAKE SURE YOU ARE STILL BUYING WARDS AS VISION WINS GAMES!!!!

Teamfights

In teamfights, your objective is to land the perfect ult, what I like to do is wait until the actual teamfight starts, and when everyone is grouped together, unleash your ultimate on as many people as you can, preferably the enemy ADC and/or APC. Make sure your Heat bar is at around 40 since you do not want to overheat after using just one ability.

Conclusion

Thank you for reading my guide, I hope this guide has helped you understand how Rumble works and what is needed to play Rumble.

Remember, Rumble is a very hard champion to get to grips with and he took me at least a month to finally understand how he works. BE PATIENT. Once you understand how to play Rumble, you will carry yourself to at least Gold no problem.
