Champion Matchups

Introduction

Leblanc is a very strong champion in solo queue because she snowballs her lane really hard and you can easily win a game by doing well in your lane early on. She is played similar to every assassin but with less risk because of her distortion (W). In this guide, I will go over the basic concepts of how to play Leblanc correctly.

Masteries

Since the season 3 changes, i go with the 21/0/9 mastery setup. I go into mastermind and artificer in utility because it gives me a lesser cooldown on my early dfg rush, which gives me shorter cooldowns and gives me more kill potential.

Runes

After the season 3 changes, i've started to prefer this rune setup more. You rarely need much mana regen on leblanc nowadays so the hp per level is good, it helps you tank enough damage to get in and get out. I like the ap per level and hp per level, it makes me scale more into late game.

Lane Match-UPS

Champions that are strong against Leblanc:

Leblanc is very very weak against champions that have strong pushing power early game. If you push on lebalnc, it is very hard for her to last hit at tower. Making her last hit at early levels will shut her down. She really needs the early farm and kills to pick up and start dominating. Deny her from farm and she will scale very bad into mid and late game... making her completely useless.

Champions that Leblanc OWN:

Leblanc is very very strong against squishy champions that she can continually abuse and harass. When you get blue, it is very important for you to W forward and harass the enemies with Q and R. Usually the opponent does not expect leblancs ultimate to be on such a small cooldown and kills are easily handed to you.

Items

Starting:
crystalline-flaskhealth-potion5mana-potion2
+ Flask for Lane sustainability
+ Hp pots for Sustain
+ Mana pot for Harass

First Items: x2

Make sure to buy lots of potions, you want to out sustain your opponents. Both Health and Mana.

Step 2 After you have 2 Dorans: or or

You build haunting guise if you want to out lane your opponent and you need the tankiness. Rushing Haunting guise means you'll have to snowball the game completely.

Rush DFG if you're against a lot of squishy champions.

Go DeathCap if you want more sustain damage. I would usually rush DFG.

This is what I usually go by order:

Last item can be: or or anything really, its all preference

Completely a Core ITEM.
This item is always good on leblanc and helps her throughout early game. Leblanc's early game is everything to her and sets the whole pace of the game. It is always common to pick up 1 to 3 Doran's Ring depending on how farmed you get and how many kills you pick up. Picking up 2 Doran's Ring usually means you picked up an early kill and want to completely keep the lead. By having multiple dorans, it prevents leblanc from dying to any sort of ganks and helps her continually spam her spells. Only pick up 2 doran's now.

Sorcerer shoes are no longer essential on Leblanc after the changes, i wouldn't recommend upgrading your boots till after deathcap.

I would usually build this after haunting guise or after double doran's ring.

Deathfire grasp, Deathcap, and voidstaff are the COMPLETELY core items on leblanc and MOST important to purchase. With the 3 items combined, it gives leblanc the ability to melt any target she chooses. You can simply bring a tank to 0 hp, and overkill AP/AD carries easily. It is not feasible to completely pull off your whole entire COMBO without the target face checking a brush. Use this Combo: W, DFG, Q==> R===> E==> Ignite. If they face check a brush.... do..... DFG + E Q+R+W+ Ignite.

Voidstaff compliments Leblanc's core builds completely with rushing Deathcap and DFG. This item is a top priority right after Dcap and DFG.

Haunting Guise is core on leblanc now due to the season 3 changes. The hp,ap and magic pen are just too dominate in laning phase. You usually build this item if you want a solid laning phase.

Early Game

When playing leblanc, your goal is always to kill your opponent. At level 1, your should cast at least once on the opponent. (At level 2 , you regain mana to full). Always make sure to farm and harass. It is very hard to last hit on leblanc and harass at the same time. Leblanc shines with ganks because of her abilities; silence, slow, and bind. If you're able to , your opponent should always die with a jungle gank at level 3. If you're trying to learn leblanc, my biggest advice is to focus on last hitting and harassing.

Mid Game

Depending on your lane match-up, it may be a good idea to roam on leblanc. This is when you ask your jungler to transition to middle lane and then you begin to start ganking each lane. ROAMING is obviously not worth it UNLESS you can actually get kills. If you're not confident with getting kills, it is better to go middle and win your lane. Once you're level 6 with blue buff, it is important to harass your opponent and push them out of lane with your ultimate.

* ROAMING Is usually not that good anymore, too many wards =D * But if u can force kills, do it.

It is very standard to Forward and cast on your opponent. After casting sigil of silence and mimic, you would press W ( distortion) again to return back to your first location. By harassing the opponent with your ultimate, it denies them from creeps and experience. If they choose to stay, there will be kill potential on your opponent.

Late Game

By late game, you should be grouped with your team by now . As Leblanc, your ultimate goal is to completely 1 shot an AP or an AD carry off the opposing team. The best case scenario is to catch and opponent off guard by being in a location that they would not expect.

You can forward to do this combo. Make sure you're using smartcast, so you can W back to your original location in time.
You cast , they should be dead.

In order to do so, you NEED to make sure that they do not have vision of you. As an assassin, you cannot be focused or you will DIE. I suggest possibly picking up an oracles after getting deathcap, DFG and voidstaff. It is the best time to assassinate an opponent when they don't know that its coming.

Team Fights

I can't really teach you how to team fight, you learn based on your own experience and each and every fight is situational. My best advice is to keep an open mind and think logically. Sometimes, it is better to focus the tanks if your AD carry is much stronger and the opposing tank is preventing your AD carry from doing damage. Leblanc has the burst damage to easily bring a tank down to 20% during the late game phase. Always keep in mind that leblanc deals a significant amount of damage and you don't always have to focus carries. If you could take 1 champion out of the fight completely , it is always good. When making an offensive play, there are always risks. THE LARGER THE RISK, THE MORE REWARD l0l0l0l. But no really, if you can 1 shot an AD carry/ AP carry consistently by positioning yourself correctly- You is #1.

Counters to Leblanc

Leblanc is all about early game and mid game, if you last through that phase, you'll most likely win so stack magic resist.

Strong items against leblanc as a bruiser:

Reginald, do you buy Lich Bane in some cases?

I think it's a great item because of the huge poke addition.

At least try it out yourself and *maybe* add it to the luxury items.

Hey, could someone point me to replays/streams of other high elo Leblanc players?

Great guide, I love her playstyle however I'm far from being good with her.

Also: What do you think about running teleport on Leblanc? Wouldn't that provide super ganks for your team?

Would you swap Sorcerer Boots for Ionian Boots once you get Void Staff if the enemy team is getting too much MR?

Also: Instead of 3ple doran's + sorc boots, would getting 2 doran's + haunting guise + ionian boots be a good idea?

Nice guide and nice video on YouTube :D

i think when you get your rabadons its best to feed ur ad carry kills with leashes... and that is also how you win fights later when it is clumped fights imo

Lost my early game, but dominated my late game.

To team fight - just take out the AD Carry and stay out of combat.
