Champion Matchups

Introduction

Ezreal is a high mobility AD carry with strong poke and mediocre auto-attack damage. He is extremely strong with red or blue buff and also becomes exponentially stronger as the fight drags on due to Arcane Shift. He has an extremely high skill-cap since all of his abilities are skill-shots thus I don't recommend him for beginners.

Explanation:

Flash is absolutely necessary to make plays and manage situations.

Consider other Summoners: ,,

> : If you take Heal and the enemy AD takes Cleanse, then you can always try and force exchanges, because you will win in a full-on engagement. By constantly forcing trades, you will end up pushing them out of the lane. I run Heal most of the time, even without the 10% masteries, since missing out on 20% Buff Duration is a bit too much to pay.

> : For obvious reasons. But Ignite is usually taken on your support if it's an aggressive support such as Taric. But if you're in an aggressive lane such as Ali/Sona and they have CV/Flash, you always have the option of running Ignite. (Don't forget to pick the mastery)

> : Even though they are fairly even in the laning phase, Cleanse's usefulness into late-game is just unrivaled, being able to break all incoming CC is a dream for all AD's. Like Heal, I run Cleanse without the masteries.

: Barrier functions very similarly to Heal. It's very good against Cleanse in lane, but deals with Ignite all in's much better. Barrier also acts as a Giant's Belt, so you can go straight into damage, while skipping certain defensive items. Take barrier when facing against assassin's such as Irelia/Kha'zix/Akali.

Skills

Passive: Rising Spell Force
Hitting a target with any of Ezreal's abilities increases his attack speed by 10% for 6 seconds (Max Stacks: 5).

Explanation:

Ezreal's attack speed steroids. Strong if you initiate with your ultimate and stack up 5 charges before the engagement, so you start with 50% attack speed.

Try to keep Ezreal's passive refreshed during the fight, since 5 stacks takes a while get back if you drop it.


Q: Mystic Shot
Ezreal fires a bolt of energy dealing 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 plus 110% of his attack damage and 20% of his ability power as physical damage (applies on-hit effects).

Ezreal's cooldowns are reduced by 1 second if Mystic Shot hits a target.

Cost 30
/ 35 / 40 / 45 / 50mana

Explanation:

Mystic Shot is Ezreal's bread n butter. It does significant damage since it scales off AD, applies on-hit effects such as red buff and trinity as well as reduce Ezreal's other abilities by 1 second.

Try your best to land your Mystic Shots, the easiest time to land them in the laning phase is if your enemy is running up to last hit. Mystic shots also cancel your attack animation, so idealy you want to auto-attack -> Mystic shot -> auto-attack continuously to maximize damage output.

Be careful of how much you spam Mystic Shot, since it really eats away at your mana.


W: Essence Flux
Ezreal fires a wave of energy that damages all enemy champions it passes through for 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+60% of ability power). Affected ally and enemy champions have their attack speed respectively hasted or slowed by 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40% for 5 seconds.

Cost 60/70/80/90/100 mana
Range 10000


Explanation:

Essence Flux has huge utillity, and makes dueling Ezreal very difficult as the enemy AD. Essence Flux is also great to buff your teammates for Dragon/Baron, as well as keeping your passive charges up. Like all other Ezreal abilities, Essence Flux is a skill shot so take special precaution using it especially in lane since it drains your mana like crazy.


E: Arcane Shift
Ezreal teleports to a target nearby location and fires a homing arrow at the nearest enemy unit dealing 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+75% of ability power) magic damage.

Cost 90mana
Range 10000


Explanation:

Arcane Shift is Ezreal's built in flash, the cool down decreases every time Mystic Shot hits making Arcane Shift almost spammable. Using Arcane Shift to engage is almost never a good idea outside of the laning phase. Abusing Arcane Shift's short cooldown is very important; baiting enemies to thinking they can kill you and then escaping to waste their time.



R: Trueshot Barrage
Ezreal channels for 1 second to fire a barrage of missiles dealing 350 / 500 / 650 (+90% of ability power and +1 per bonus attack damage) magic damage to each unit it passes through. However, it deals 8% less damage for each unit it hits (Minimum 30%).

Cooldown 80 seconds

Cost 150 mana

Range 20000


Explanation:

Huge damage ultimate that can snipe enemies, dragon or baron. If you can start off the team fight with Trueshot Barrage, it can instantly get you 5 passive stacks for a lot of extra DPS.

Trueshot Barrage is also a great tool to clear waves before going back to base to buy, or stopping a huge wave from pushing. Since it has a relatively short cooldown as long as you're using Mystic Shot, don't be afraid to spam it.


Skill Order

R -> Q -> E -> W

Get an early level in W only if you're laning against Vayne, since it's too big of a mana drain early on otherwise.

Everything else is pretty obvious.

Early Game

Try and hit level 2 first by pushing up, and see if you can find an opening as soon as you hit level 2, since Ezreal at level 2 does significant damage especially if your enemies are still level 1.

Farm extremely well.

Punish enemies if they try to get too aggressive, otherwise sit back and farm.

Mid Game

Ezreal is extremely powerful once he hits level 6, since his ultimate is not only a global, but does a lot of damage.

Ezreal excels at Dragon fights, since at that stage of the game, Ezreal's damage is very comparable to any other AD carry (before graves, ashe, kog gets Infinity) except he has higher mobility and spammable poke.

Farm extremely well.

Late Game

Ezreal, like all other AD carries, scale extremely well into late game. However, among AD carries, Ezreal's late-game damage is one of the lowest. Abuse your mobility in team fights and try to outplay your opponents with it. Fight when you have red buff, since its a huge upgrade to Mystic Shot, and always try to stay alive and clean up fights, and almost never trade yourself for an enemy.

Final Comments

Ezreal is a gust of wind, you want to methodically pick apart your enemies by kiting and precision skill shots, then clean up after the enemy team uses up their flashs. Ezreal's job isn't to do the most damage possible upfront, but more so to slowly poke and clean up.
