Hey guys this is SKiLLY and this right here is my Season 4 guide on one of my favorite champions to play, Cassiopeia. Why should you follow this guide? Well I am a diamond player. Peaking at rank 7th during season 2 and going to MLG Anaheim to compete with the best, and not to mention Cassiopeia is what help me land the #1 spot in Protatomonster's Top 5 plays in week 51. Cassiopeia is a really rewarding champion with huge trading potential. She has huge damage with the right rotation of spells, to the point where no one can out trade her if done right. Her damage comes a lot from landing important skill shots and knowing how and when you use her ultimate. Mastering her if hard work but will pay off by itself. Without further ado please enjoy reading my new Season 4 Cassiopeia Guide !

Pros :
- Huge DPS abilities
- Arguably the best trader in the game because of her insane low cooldowns if done correctly
- More of a higher skill cap than most AP casters
- Really rewarding and fun to play when mastered

Cons :
- Eats away mana ( Can be solved easily with items )
- No escape mechanism
- Hard to master
- Need to be good at microing

Runes

MARKS : For marks I take flat Magic Penetration runes. These are the best runes in it's department to maximize Cassiopeia's damage output. Cassiopeia's main damage comes from her ability to spam her spells which all do magic damage so taking the x9 Magic penetration runes optimizes your damage output. I don't take hybrids on Cassiopeia since you won't be auto attacking a lot but rather spamming spells. Pretty straight forward and standard for most AP casters.

SEALS : Flat armor seals are the best seals in the game by far. They help you in terms of getting harassed by auto attacks, getting hit my lane and jungle minions which do quite a bit of damage early on, and just get you tankier to survive ganks or bait of potential kills. It's really good on Cassiopeia since she is a really aggressive champion early on so the extra armor really beefs her up to endure and be able to trade hits.

GLYPHS : For glyphs I run flat Magic Resist on Cassiopeia. Because Cassiopeia is a really aggressive type champion with a lot of damage to trade with your opponent, running Magic Resist will help you come out top when trading. Cassiopeia already has really high damage output so when you do trade with your enemy midlaner these magic resist runes will make you a little bit more durable to be able to out trade your opponent.

QUINTS : Flat Ability Power Quints are what I run when playing Cassiopeia. The 15 AP that it gives you a boost in damage to every single one of your abilities which is really nice to have early on. Since you get the 15 AP at level 1, it helps you with your damage output in the early laning phase which means you will be able to deal more damage your opponent and even open up an opportunity to pick up first blood. These are the standard quintessences for basically every single AP caster. You could swap them out for Movement Speed Quints if the enemy team has a lot of skill shot CC like Morgana, Thresh, Blitz to help you avoid getting caught off. But I think if you play smart, AP Quints come out on top.

9 Utility
This mastery page is a pretty standard AP caster setup that I use for when I play most of my AP caster champions.

I put 21 points into the Offense tree to optimize my damage output. Let's go over them together.

: I put a point in Double-Edged Sword to help bring more damage to the table. It is basically a trade off where you deal more damage, but in return you take more damage. A good pick up when playing Cassiopeia since it gives her a boost in her already huge dps kit.

: I max out this Mastery skill for the 5% Cooldown Reduction. This means you will be able to use and spam your abilities more which is a great stat to have on a spammable champion like Cassiopeia.
: Mental Force when maxed gives us 16 Ability Power at level 18. Maxing this skill will give a nice boost in damage in the mid game stages where Cassiopeia damage capabilities really show.
: Arcane Mastery gives us 8 flat Ability Power meaning with just this skill and your Quints you are looking at 13 flat AP at level 1. More ability power means more damage which is great for any AP caster. Putting a point in this skill is a must.

: Executioner increases damage dealt to champions below 50% Health by 5%. Which basically means more damage ! A great skill to max that synergizes with Double-Edged Sword. Max this skill out to optimize your damage output.

: Archmage increases Ability Power by 5%. Not that big early on in the game but will be a huge boost when in combination with Rabandon's Deathcap which will increase Ability Power by 35% in total. This is also another must to optimize your damage output.

: Dangerous Game is a totally underrated mastery skill. To the common players it is just a waste of a mastery point. Who needs 5% Health and Mana restoration after killing an enemy. That's nothing. WRONG ! When you go all in against your opponent he will be also throwing everything he has. Most cases this will often lead to 1 side killing another but then dieing seconds later due to a last tick of ignite or minion aggro. Well this is where this mastery point shines. After killing your opponent is restores 5% of MISSING Health and Mana which means the lower your Health and Mana after killing an opponent the more it heals you for. This means instead of getting killed by the last tick of ignite or getting killed by an OP purple caster minion after killing your opponent it will heal you enough to survive the damage to come out on top. This mastery synergizes really well with a clutch level up.

: Arcane Blade gives your auto attack some bonus magic damage based on your Ability Power. This helps you with auto attack harassing as well as last hitting minions and hitting towers. A nice skill to put a point in.

: Devastating Strike is a new mastery that gives us 6% Armor and Magic Penetration when maxed. In combination with your Magic Penetration marks, this will boost your damage output on spells, as well as give a nice boost in damage to your auto attacks as well. This is a skill that is must to be maxed out.

: Havoc is the last skill in the Offense Mastery Tree. It gives us 3% increased damage which in unison with Double-Edged Sword and Executioner gives us a whooping total of 9.5% increased damage. With all these masteries taken in the Offense tree your damage output will be at it's maximum potential.

I put my remaining 9 points into the Utility Tree for some bonus utility and cooldowns. Let's go over them as well.

: Phasewalker reduces the casting time of Recall by 1 second. Doesn't seem like much but can be the difference of you being caught in a brush recalling and getting killed or making it just in the nick of time.

: Fleet of Foot gives us 1.5% Movement Speed increase when maxed which is basically 1 Movement Speed Quint. I max this over Meditation since 3 Mana regen is really nothing and it a stat that can be easily bought. Movement Speed is also useful and synergizes really well with your passive that we will later go through. Movement Speed is also useful throughout all stages of the game. It can be the difference of dodging a major skill shot CC or getting caught by it and dieing.

: Summoner's Insight reduces the cooldown of Summoner Spells by 10% when maxed. This is really crucial since Flash is a really important summoner spell to have up. If you enemy mid laner did not put a point into this skill, your flash and ignite will be up before his meaning you can go for a kill since his summoners wont be up.

: Alchemist is a nice little bonus utility spell to have. Increases duration of potions and elixers by 10% meaning more health and mana regeneration on potions as well as a little bit more time on your Elixers.

: Last but not least is Rune Affinity. This skill increases the duration of Shrine, Relic, Quest, and Neutral monster buffs by 20%. This means your blue buff and red buff will stay on your longer, as well as Baron. A really good utility skill to put your last point in. Help you farm more when having blue buff and spam your abilities more. Also having Baron buff for an extra 20% longer isn't the worst thing to have.

Summoner Sets

Primary Set
Ignite and Flash are the 2 summoner spells that I have when playing almost all AP casters.

Ignite : This summoner spell is what maximizes your damage output. It burns the targeted champion which deals true damage per second for a short duration and reduces Ignited target's health regeneration and healing effects received by 50%. This summoner spell works really well with your Q and is what helps you kill your opponent when going all out. Remember is does true damage which means it ignores all armor and magic resistances.

Flash : Flash is the single most op summoner spell in the game. This summoner spell teleports your champion instantly to wherever your mouse cursor is within 400 range. This summoner can be used offensively as well as defensively. It can be used offensively to catch up to an enemy to land skill shots, aggressively dodge a skill shot to grab a kill, or even Flashing to get an extra ability + auto attack combo off to net a kill. This summoner can also be used defensively when getting ganked. You can flash away, or even flash through a wall to create even more or a distance between you and your enemy. It can also be used to reposition yourself in the case where you should get caught out and live from certain death. Flash is a summoner spell that is a must have for it's versatility.
Barrier & Flash
Barrier and Flash are chosen as my summoner spells when facing an assasin like team composition.

Barrier: The only time I run Barrier over Ignite is when I'm facing Assasin Midlaners which are champions such as Riven, Zed, Lee, Kha, Akali, Annie, Leblanc. The champions that are basically designed to 100 to 0 you in a matter of seconds, this is when you take Barrier. It shields you from incoming damage for 2 seconds which is a great counter to burst champs that deal all their damage within a second. Be careful when you use it. Do not use it unless you know you are going to be taking damage since the shield is only last 2 seconds.

Flash : Flash is the single most op summoner spell in the game. This summoner spell teleports your champion instantly to wherever your mouse cursor is within 400 range. This summoner can be used offensively as well as defensively. The standard starting items I buy when I play Cassiopeia is a Doran's Ring and 2 Health Potions. This starts gives you everything you could ever want. Health, Ability Power, Mana regen and a passive that gives you even more mana regen. Along with 2 Health Potions this is gives you the optimal start that you can have when playing Cassiopeia.

Starting Build # 2
Another starting build that you can go is running Flask + 4 Health potions which can be achieved by waiting at base when minions spawn and grabbing a 4th Health Potion. This start does not give you any combat stats however, It does give you the highest sustain possible for laning if you are against a heavy harasser or you are more of a passive player that just wants to farm minions until you get a gank from your jungler which is perfectly fine. Both starts are good, it's just up to your playstyle.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
These are the 6 Items that I get on Cassiopeia that gives are all the important stats that are needed when playing her.
I'll be going over each item and explaining to you why I get these items on Cassiopeia.

Seraph's Embrace : Seraph's Embrace is a must on Cassiopeia. It becomes an extremely cost effective item because of how quickly she can max the charges that are needed in order to get this item. Cassiopeia's abilities are at such a low cool down and can be used constantly that having a huge Mana pool is more efficient than going Athene's Unholy Grail. Not to mention it have a really nice active which grants you a shield for 3 seconds equal to 20% of your current Mana.

Sorc Shoes : Sorc shoes are the standard boots to get when playing an AP caster. It gives you flat magic penetration which helps you do more damage to your enemies with your abilities. These are the boots you should get, but if the enemy team has a lot of cc and you want more survivability, you can get Merc Treads instead.

Will of the Ancients : Will of the Ancients is not an item seen often at all in games because not a lot of champions can utilize the stats that it gives you. Luckily for Cassiopeia, the stats that it provides go great with her abilities. It gives 50 AP, 10 Mana regen per 5, 10% Cool down and most importantly 20% Spell Vamp. Spell vamp is basically like Lifesteal except for that it gives you back health when you use abilities instead of auto attacks. Cassiopeia's strength lies in her ability to spam spells and deal huge damage to an enemy. With her strengths in mind, adding a Will of the Ancients provides her with a stat that synergizes really well with her kit and gives her huge amount of sustain. A blue buff Cassiopeia with Will of the Ancients will be able to out sustain, and out harass any opponent in the game. A an item that goes really well with the huge Mana pool that you will be getting with a Tear of the Goddess.

Rylai's Crystal Scepter : Rylai's Crystal Scepter is an item that was made for Cassiopeia. It grants Health, Ability Power, and a really sweet passive that slows enemies that have been hit with your abilities. The slow along with your rotation of spells will allow you to track down and kill almost any enemy. It adds a nice slowing CC to your kit which can help your team in catching up your enemies or can help save your life by being able to continuously slow the opponent that is chasing you. Overall a great item pick up on a champion like Cassiopeia.

Rabadon's Deathcap : This item is the IE for AP casters. This item here gives use a huge boost in AP which spikes your damage output through the roof when purchased. Once you reach the point in where you purchase this item you will be able to kill targets in less than 5 seconds with the right rotation of spells.

Void Staff: After getting a Rabadon's Deathcap, Void Staff should be rushed. What's the point of all that Ability Power if the enemy has 200 MR? Sorc boots will be enough magic penetration for early-mid game but once late game hits and everyone starts getting their MR, you're going to need some heavy penetration and this is where Void Staff comes in. Gives you a nice boost in AP as well as a 35% Magic Penetration which is needed to be able to damage the tankier champions on the enemy team.




Build Order
This is the exact build order that I use when playing Cassiopeia. I start of with a Doran's Ring and farm up to buy my Tear and Boots on my first recall back. At this point your jungler with probably give you the second Blue Buff that spawns. Use it and spam your abilities to max your Tear as fast as you can. Next I grab Hextech Revolver and upgrade it to WoTA for the spell vamp and extra stats that you get from upgrading it. Next I buy Archangel's Staff and keep spamming my abilities to try and get Seraph's as soon as possible. After that I purchase a Rylai's Crystal Scepter for the nice boost in Health and Ability Power not to mention it's passive. Then I grab Rabadon's Deathcap followed by a Void staff and by then the game should be over.

Situational Items

Athene's Unholy Grail
Athene's Unholy Grail is not on my build either because of the recent nerfs that it has gotten. It is still a great item but that stats are more beneficial to poke type casters like Lux and Nidalee. This item should be picked up if the enemy team has 3 Ability Power champions or more. If you do end up buying Athene's Unholy Grail, make sure that you do not purchase a tear of goddess since that will pretty much be an overkill and a waste of gold.
Zhonya's Hourglass
Zhonya's Hourglass is not included in my build when playing Cassiopeia because Rylai's along with your passive should give you enough boost in speed for you to have the proper positioning in teamfights. But you can grab this item if the enemy team is heavy on AD. Gives you a nice active that turns your in an invulnerable state that can be used to counter a lot of abilities like Zed's Ultimate.

Max your ultimate whenever you can since it is high damage spell.

Max Q next and use it to harass and deal damage to your opponent. A hits of Q will start making them chug their health potions/

Max E after as it will be your secondary source of damage.

Max W after for it's AOE slow that it brings to the table

Skills

Deadly Cadence
This passive is very underrated. After casting a spell, the next spell that is used will cost 10% less for 5second. This ability stacks up to 5 times. What that means is that if you use 5 spells continuously, the Mana cost for your spells with be reduced by 50%. This is very easy to do with Blue buff and is what makes Cassiopeia able to spam her abilities more if used more so an aggressive play style is better.
Noxious Blast
This is a skill shot ability that creates an explosion of poison. If you hit an enemy with it, it will deal damage over the course of 3 seconds and grant you a nice movement speed boost for 3 seconds. This ability is the same thing as Karthus's Q, and Syndra's Q. The difference is that it does damage over time rather than the full damage upfront. It grants you a movement speed bonus for 3 seconds if you hit an enemy champion with it, and with a 3 second cool down it can be used to kite and quickly reposition yourself to land another Q for continuous harassment.
Miasma
Miasma is Cassiopeia's W which when used, throw a cloud of poison to a target location. It lasts for 7 seconds and provides vision over it for the duration. Any enemies that walk through it become poisoned for 2 seconds that is renewed by continual exposure. Poisoned enemies take magic damage each second that they are in the cloud of poison and are additionally slowed. This is a great spell to use to zone an enemy as well as give you vision in a brush. We take a point in it at level 1 to help us with zoning and to help us have vision on our side brushes in case of a gank.
Twin Fang
Twin Fang is what makes Cassiopeia's damage output go through the roof. When used, Cassiopeia shoots fangs at the target enemy dealing magic damage. If the target is poisoned when hit by Twin Fangs the cool down of it is reduced to 0.5 seconds. That means if you land a Q on your opponent your E will be on cooldown for 0.5 seconds meaning you can go ham and deal huge amounts of damage. Same applies if your enemy is on your W.
Petrifying Gaze
This is Cassiopeia's Ultimate. This is what separates the good Cassiopeia's from the great Cassiopeia's. When used Cassiopeia deals magic damage to all enemies in a cone in front of her. Enemies facing her when damaged are stunned for 2 seconds, while enemies facing away are slowed by 60% for the same duration. This Ultimate if used right can instantly win you a battle. If you are able to position yourself to use your Ultimate to stun priority targets, teamfights will be a breeze for you.

Early Game

This is where you can get your lane dominance. First go mid and start farming normally. When your opponent tries to cs you land a Q and auto attack on them to harass since they will be focusing and standing still when autoattacking for the cs. If your opponent started with a Dorans item of any kind HARASS that opponent as much as you can as you have 2 hp potions while they have none.

Be careful and not to get carried away while Harassing as it can lead you to lose CS and get damaged by creeps which are OP early. The art of harassing is easy, once you see one of your minions low stay near it as your opponent will most likely come up to last hit and hit them with a Q and auto attack combo. If you do this correctly and see your enemy is low, try an engage on the next Q you land since it gives you bonus movement speed if it hits. DO NOT BE SCARED TO DIE FOR FB (be careful) but if your 100% you can kill your opponent for FB do what it takes even if its dying right after as the FB bonus will help you on your farm.

Mid Game

Mid Game is where Cass dominates. By now your Q and E abilities should be maxed and you should be dealing quite a bit of damage. Once you land your Q on your enemy they won't be able to trade you with the damage output you can dish with your Q&E combo. Farming is really easy on Cass. W and Q the mage wave and then just Q and autoattack the melee minions to get most if not all the creeps. Cass can clear waves easily so this gives you time if you have blue, to either take your wraiths or wolf camp or even take their wraiths if you see no threat, just be careful.

You have 2 options in the mid game phase with Cass. You can either push hard and then go for a gank at top or bot. Or keep applying pressure down mid. It all depends on who you are against. If you are against a TF you should be pushing your lane hard so that he is forced to stay at mid and wont be able to utilize his ultimate. If your opponent is more of farming champion that can't clear waves too fast like Swain, just push hard and then rotate to either top or bot and go for a gank. If you see that your enemy midlaner has ganked top or bot and you are still at mid the best thing you can do is to push down mid hard and try to get decent damage on the turret as taking it down will give huge map presence.

Late Game

Late game is all about grouping with your team to get important objectives like Baron or turrets. To win a game you must kill the enemy Nexus and to do so you need to be able to take down their turrets. In too many games have I seen where a team in the lead can not press it's advantage and end the game only to drag out the game and let the enemy team farm up and win the game. I will be teaching you how to take down turrets with your team. Lets say your team is pushing a turret but your enemy is defending it. You should have your golem buff as it is lategame. You want to immediately W next to their turret. As soon as they step in your W hit them with a Q and move back since you don't want to be taking turret aggro.

If they engage on you guys just stay calm and use your Ult which will land a few stuns and then engage. It's important to not fight at their turret which will most likely lead to a losing teamfight unless you guys are that far ahead or them in terms of items and levels. NOTE: While you are poking if you see that you've damaged one of their opponents considerably, try and ping them to let your team know to either engage or take turret. Rinse and repeat. Cass's damage output is HUGE at this time of the game meaning dragons, and barons should be relatively quick pick ups if the enemy hasn't warded.

Team Fight

Team fights are when a Cassiopeia is put to the test. The outcome of a team fight can be determined by how much damage Cass can dish out. Since 2 of Cassiopeia's abilities are skill shots it is important to land them to help your team deal damage. A good ult is what can turn a losing team fight to an instantly won team fight depending on how many people you can stun. When a team fight occurs stay in the back on your front line. Throw down your W in front of you so that you can slow down an enemy that has prioritized you without him damaging you yet. Relax and analyze the situation. When a champion auto attacks they must be still and cannot move. So when you see an enemy auto attacking or in 1 spot dueling your teammate, throw down a Q. Landing a Q will give you a movement speed bonus for 3 seconds that will allow you to reposition if needed to help hit important targets. You ultimate is close ranged spell and it best used when the enemy team is running towards your team. Save it for the right moment as this spell can determine the outcome of the team fight. If you are confident enough, you can use flash to put you in a position to ult and stun important targets to help your team win fights but only if you are confident that you can pull it off as it will put you in danger.

Conclusion

Good guide, for beginners and for those who cassiopeia plays an just read guides too i think :) just want to tell you have there mistake in Skill order, you have there 6 times Miasma (lvl 4,13,14,15,17,18) :)

Okay I'm back from vacation. I believe Athene's is a great Item on Cass and I will be updating this guide and my Orianna guide really soon.

I was just playing 5v5 normals using you guide as my basic item path. Was facing a Kha'Zix mid. Won the laneing phase even with lag issues. Went 13/0/12. I've never done so well in PvP. Thanks for the guide.

My build when the enemy team surrendered at 34 minutes was Sorcerer's Shoes, Doran's rings x2, Liandry’s Torment, Zhonya’s Hoursglass, and Rylai’s Crystal Scepter.

Cass is a real scary champ to play against. I have no idea why more people don't play her. She is really fun and really powerful.

You should have syndra as a match up i had some trouble laning against her, you just have to dodge her q
