Champion Matchups

Karma and Me.

Karma is a very underplayed and somewhat underrated champion. She has huge unexpected burst with her and a very strong heal that is designed ideally for clutch situations.
Karma is not a very good champion for solo queue, as she is underplayed and alot of people do not know how to work well with her. Some people don't even know what her skills do.

I will explain later in this guide who Karma 'synergizes' very well with.

Pros:
- Able to lane well against Anyone.
- Unexpected burst/high bases.
- Has very good protection abilities, as well as burst.
- Can heal for very large amounts unexpectedly.
- Can clear fast enough.
- Provides exceptional utility to her team in the areas of slowing, shielding, and speed buffs.
- Can outdamage alot of other AP Carries if you know how to land her .

Cons:
- One of the hardest characters in the game to pick up AND master. [not anymore she's hella easy now]
- Has low amounts of CC.
- Since she's underplayed, most people don't know how to play with her and therefore don't understand how to maximize her damage output.
- Mana hungry.
- Farm dependant. (Albeit, not as much with my rune page and masteries.)
- Still a "up-front and personal" mage.
- Not as strong late game anymore.

I will also explain Jungle, Tank, and Support Karma in later revisions.

Runes

These are the runes that I run pretty much 90% of the time.

Marks: Magic Penetration Reds are standard and used on all AP Carries. You could run MR Reds as well, but I prefer these.

Seals: I personally now run either Health p/Lvl, Mana Regen, or Armor on new Karma now. Gp10 builds got nerfed, so it's not as helpful anymore.

Glyphs: You can run either AP/L Glyphs or Magic Resist but I have always found Magic Resist to be of more use during the laning phase. I do use AP/L alot more with New Karma, but AP/L also doesn't really amount to much once the laning phase has passed and takes too long to max out - not worth it. I prefer Magic Resist or Magic Resist/L Glyphs. If you are going TOP against an AD-bruiser Type, switch out MR and get CDR or Armor or AP/L.

Quintessences: I run either Flat AP Quints or Flat MPen Quints. I like getting kills at level two. It's fun. Either works well. I like MPen alot more on new karma now.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:
These are extremely standard for AP Mid/Top. Also, you need Flash on people that don't have innate escapes/blinks, and Ignite helps you kill people off. It's also very useful against people like and .

Alternate:
: Lol. If you get these against champions like Ahri or LeBlanc, they can't kill you. It's pretty funny. You could also just build three dorans, but that's a bit of a waste of money. Who wants to die though, right?
: Karma kites so much better in her new rework, so this is okay. I still like ignite the most, though.

Optional:
: Teleport is good if you want to roam and stuff. I don't like to roam alot.
: It's good if you want to survive ganks, still, not my preferred summoner spell. I haven't tried to run it much.
: Also a good summoner spell when you're laning against people that have the ability to stun you often, or the enemy team has an immense amount of CC. Like .

I max out Karma's first, whilst also only getting a point in at level eight. You can opt for it earlier, if you really need it, and it's saved me a few times, but not very much. I only get it at eight because I enjoy getting kills early with more damage output with a leveled up and .

As you play Karma more, you get more comfortable with her skillset. You are able to try any setup and build with a character you love and still excel at. If you love Karma as much as I do, I encourage you to consistently play her, despite her upcoming remakes. I encourage you as you feel that you have gotten more skilled with Karma to try out new builds or runes/masteries, as you can find out what works best for you in certain matchups. As for me, I like to rush a versus a as it helps you stay in lane against his and you can easily out trade him.
LOL JK KARMA IS SO EASY NOW.

Mid Lane

Tips for Karma in Mid Lane:
  • Karma is hard to push out of lane, and since you're taking two early points in your , it shouldn't be too hard to last hit under tower. Try to keep your farm up as much as possible.
  • damages anything that crosses the line instantly. If you chain a ranged creep, you can move back and forth to damage the melee creeps more easily. You can also try to harass your lane opponent with this, although, it should be much much harder to land.
  • Try to ask your jungler for the blue buff as much as possible. It helps you farm, and when you have it, you can push and outharass your lane opponent in most cases, because your hefty shield should keep you rather healthy.
  • Try to play especially passive against agressive laners like or .

Top Lane

Tips for Karma in Top Lane:
  • Don't push the lane unnecessarily. If the enemy is only last hitting and avoids pushing as well, you will almost always push up to their tower, which will make you more susceptible to ganks. You don't have a very good escape early levels, so you are early food for the enemy jungler.
  • If you manage to kill your lane opponent and the lane is pushing slightly to their tower, clear the wave with your array of Area-Of-Effect Abilities to make your lane opponent miss out on as much experience as possible.
  • You can't out-trade most AD Bruisers, so if they use their Cooldowns, try to poke them. You can outsurvive most of them.

Team Fighting

Position is Key, and very much like , she is very reliant on Flash to gimp their AD Carry, or any other high-priority targets.

You do not have a large amount of CC, you yourself do not initiate.

You help others initiate using your , or even + since the slow/speedup will be massive if you hit your teammates/enemies with it correctly. Although not recommended since you won't have two mantras to shield/heal, it is definitely an option.

The problem I find myself doing constantly is that I'll always have one mantra saved up for another shield because I get greedy with damage. While that is OK, you should always be healing people if you have an extra mantra. Your is on a low cooldown. It will always? be there to save someone.

General Gameplay and Positioning

The most important thing to note is at the very end, where I kill alistar, he doesn't die to my normal array of spells, but to the fact that I onto a minion. He was directly in the way of it, which dealt the final blow.

NOTE:Before the penta-killing started, I had a large sum of about 1700~ gold in the bank already, and after, I had about 3000. The items I had were , the three gp10s, a , and a . I sometimes like getting a deathfire immediately after my deathcap, or if I choose to get a wota, as it give me a larger sum of burst damage to my skillset. It helped me pick up the kill on Lulu, which I may have not gotten if I had only used one spell on her.

We were able to baron after easily, using my healing and shielding capabilities. I will post a video of it soon.

Baron Follow-Up:


As you can see, Karma's shielding and healing capabilities are immense when you have your Rabbadon's Deathcap. We finished baron with more health than when we first started it. That's alot of support in just one character. I believe she's a very unique character.

Tank Karma, Support Karma, Jungle Karma

Tank Karma:

I find this fun to experiment and to play with, because as you reach your full build, you should almost never die. You can also initiate pretty well, as well as soak up alot of skills. I tend to go this build whenever I am Jungling or when I'm fighting a very snowbally AD-Bruiser Type such as .

Here are my Masteries/Runes for Tank Karma.

I suppose you could run MPen Marks, Armor Seals, MR or MR/L blues, and your choice of Quints, but this is just what I've had the most success with.

I go 0-21-9 because I usually Jungle with this, but you should still get blue sometimes anyway! Trust me, it helps you IMMENSELY. I don't get any in offense because with this build, you only have early game damage. You will hardly poke them late game, but you will have a bunch of survivability.

Support Karma:

  • I do not recommend doing this. This is by far my least favorite way to play Karma. It's not absolutely terrible, but there's much better and much more viable supports to play. She needs farm, breaking the cardinal rule of support.

This is the only way I'd recommend building your runes for support Karma. You will be attempting to get Max CDR, and these runes help. As well as help you increase your gold income.

Masteries:

You have good poking damage, despite it being Area-Of-Effect. Still, you should be helping your carry poke at them, and shielding them. Other than that, ward and ward. Build like a normal support.

Jungle Karma:

  • Jungle Karma is fun. I find it very fun, despite hating the Jungle. You have free choice of what you wish to start with. You can start with anything as long as you receive a leash. You would preferentially start with your so you can get your GP10 faster, as you won't be the fastest clearer, nor have the highest gold income.

Please note that you have Choice Marks, Glyphs, and Quintessences. You MUST get armor Seals. Everything else is how I choose to run with Jungle Karma.

Also note that whenever I choose to jungle karma, I always go Tank Karma. But I do not always jungle when I play Tank Karma. I have never ever experimented with AP Jungle Karma. You can try to figure stuff out, but still, AP Karma always builds a .

Synergizes With

: Yes. Zomg, Yes. Karma and Singed. They both make each other squeal in glee. Your goes well with his ability to catch people and fling them directly behind him, which procs the damage part of your spell.
Yes, yes, yes!
It also works inversely. Karma can be a huge detriment to Singed if he's on the enemy team. Because of this, Always pick Karma if there's a Singed.

: Ahri shouldn't go top, so you will take that role. Karma's has versatility and the ability to go whichever lane she wishes to go, although the playstyle in each lane majorly differs. Ahri has the ability to dash in, charm nearby targets, and if you + her while she's nearby a squishy carry... Things about to blow up in here!

As he pulls people too him, you can damage them super easily with your combo.. Mmph.

since his ability pushes him further than his enemy. Very much like Singed in that aspect, although he can break your chain with his

He stuns everyone near him. You have free reign to hit them. Albeit, this is with pretty much any champion, but still. If the Kennen is smart, he'll know how to maximize your damage output as well.

I think he works very well, for very similiar reasons as with Blitzcrank.

Him and Singed are fling buddies.

Karma is Amumu's Friend, yo! Amumu is made for Area of Effect team comps, and Karma works very well with Amumu. She can speed him up and make it easier for him to initiate.

Simply because when she jumps in, you can give her alot of extra Area-of-effect burst with a + combo. You don't want her on the enemy team, though.

A very anti-AoE team comp champ, as well as you. You have a huge AoE heal that is extremely clutch in almost all situations, and very strong shields.

He synergizes very well in the same way that Amumu synergizes with him.

Extra movespeed for him, yo!

He jumps in, you shield, you burst down the person of your choice!

Lane Match-ups:

Middle:

: This lane is Easy. Take advantage of her slightly weak early game, and how easy she is to gank at early levels. You start losing out in trades (granted if she lands her skillshots) past level five, and you'll start winning them after you build your Needlessly Large Rod. You can insta-gib her after you get your and if she hasn't built MR.
DIFFICULTY: 3.5/10

: This lane should be Even. Janna pushes your lane. She's super annoying. Change your skill order in order to be able to wave clear more easily and last hit under tower. Max your first, and max your second. You'll still be farming your lane, and Janna is only super strong mid-game. You'll have the late game on her.
DIFFICULTY: 6/10

: I LOVE this lane. He cannot kill you without his jungler, as you can counter his slow with a + combo, and he shouldn't be able to snipe you with his ultimate with your and your + . You both have monstrous late games, but you should be ultimately more useful in teamfights after Karthus and your team does not die. You should shield your tank or carry depending on whom is taking the most amount of damage from his suicide bomb tactics.
DIFFICULTY: 2/10

: This lane is rough. You don't have any CC that can stop Katarina, she out pokes you, she outdamages you(with my build), and she can out sustain you after she gets her . Your only chance of killing her early is with the help of your jungler. You will be fine against her later, but she's hell early game. You can choose to try to harass her out of lane and abuse her weak early game, but you will run out of mana easily and be more susceptible to ganks.
DIFFICULTY:7/10

: Uncommon. Never played against it. Two very rare mids to see.
: This should be EVEN pre-6, and you'll be able to kill her post 16. You should rush your and play very carefully. Time your , and if she rushes in next to you, combo it with your . You shouldn't start to lose damage on her until level 6.

: This matchup is HARD. She outpokes you, out damages you, and can kill you easily post six. However, you can manage to survive and get to lategame, you'll kill her easily by juking and overall positioning. This is a highly skill-based matchup.

: This lane is extremely difficult. I am not a fan of this matchup. He's deceptively strong, and you have almost zero early game power. Also, he has damage amplifiers. Since you cannot trade with him early, and you cannot win past-6, you really have no choice. This lane is extremely difficult to win with this build. You should just go a standard AP Karma build if you choose to play this.
DIFFICULTY: 9/10

: This lane is HARD. Hope you never play this matchup. It isn't too hard pre-6 as you should be able to easily outdamage/poke/harass him, but after he gets all his skills, you should be done for with a well placed gank on their part.

: Uncommon, as well. Never played against it as well.
: This lane should be EVEN. He'll be able to push you to tower easily, and be able to slightly annoy you early. Try to call for your jungler's help. With a mantra'd version of your , it's an easy kill. Make sure you use extremely early if he has taken .

: This lane is EVEN. He cannot do anything to you without his jungler's help, and same with you. However, you have the late game damage, and even if he goes AP, you should still be able to shield and be more helpful to your team overall. This lane is a bit rough if he goes the AP Route, but still. You shouldn't ever die to him One on One. You're too tanky, and so is he. You don't damage enough to burn through his shield early levels. Play passive, farm gold, get your GP10s as soon as possible.

: This lane is HARD. I would not recommend this build if you're playing against Riven. It does not work well.
She has too many gap closers, and can shield your miniscule damage, as well as damage you a large amount. However, if you build Tank Karma versus Riven, she can't do anything to you, and if she wishes you kill you, she'll have to rush a last whisper. You'll still be very useful in terms of initiation. Since you're going tank Karma, you may want to consider maxing your 2nd spell, .
: This lane is HARD. This little OP Fuck (:3) is impossibru to deal with if you don't completely rape him level 1-5. Get your jungler's help.

Karma is not in my most played, because Karma is usually a very situational pick, and not very good for solo-queue carry. Even my win-rate shows that. But can't do much with the throws now and then!

Whilst playing with Karma, you must realize that it is harder to win every game. Your team will throw some times, and you will throw others(as with every champion, but it seems to happen more with Karma). Don't worry about it. Karma is not a weak champion, but she is very hard to place on a team, but there is quite a few champions that synergize very well with her.

Hullo! Your guide got me interested in playing Karma, and I'll credit you for that, though I was never really convinced about Ignite on her, and gp/10 doesn't quite fit my playstyle.



Admittedly I've only been using Karma for the past two weeks (nonstop though), but she's completely bedazzled me with how powerful she is and how much potential she has. As good as a Singed at baiting and trolling the enemy team, she is so ridiculously powerful it's just scary.



One thing I want to bring up - I don't quite understand the Kat-beats-Karma matchup. Perhaps it's because I run Athenes+Merc Treads against her, but you match her evenly in trade if you miss your R+E (very split-second if she does a QEW or EQW->run away to harass), beat her if you land it just right, and completely cockblock her if she tries to ult you. There's no way she can ever kill you on her own, and even with a jungler's help bar something like, iunno, Xin or something else with ridiculously high early game physical damage or Fiddle ult, it's impossible for her to finish you off, unless you're heavily overextended in which case hopefully you'll have Flash up. I don't really see it being a hard lane. Once again, I run Athene's and Merc Treads on Karma against most AP mids, so assassins aren't really a big threat at all.



Same thing with Veigar - prioritising Merc Treads over Athene's, most of them barely tickle me with Q and they have to resort to ganks if they want to do anything once both MR items are up, usually burning Flash on the jungler. Admittedly more of a problem than Kat is, given that Kat has less kill potential even with a jungler's help, but still minimal. I've never had to rush a Negatron against Veigar. Perhaps it's because they always underestimate Karma (absolutely no one plays Karma in the SEA server. In 2 years of playing I've only seen one. ONE.) but I've never had any trouble against them either.



Although I /have/ only been playing her for a couple of weeks, but that's something like 8 games a day for 12 days at around 1.7k elo (top ELO in the server's 2.1k+) so I figure that's enough to get accustomed to her somewhat.

:O I laned against a Gragas, I out farmed him about 30 more cs until 100. I had my 3 gp/10s and a rabby while he had 2 dorans rings and a blasting wand. I also won with 20.8k gold in my pocket, while everyone else had around 14k on the other team. My team had around 14-16k. It was ridiculous :O

Karma is great if laning on duo bot with Jarvan IV (even in ranked game!!). She can use her E and her W on his flag, making her an extremely strong zoner. Also she is much better at supporting a melee than supporting a ranged. And after Jarvan reached level 2, you will have some perfect poke and since her R + E + R + Q combo will bring your Jarvan IV from 1/3 HP to 1/2 HP and give him a shield which will make him have 2/3 HP for 5 seconds, the damage both deal will bring the enemy AD ranged carry down to 1/3 HP from 2/3 HP and all that while Jarvan IV has knocked him up. Also your AoE synergises pretty well with his ultimate.

love the guide, had a few great games with it now.

there is just one thing i dont get: you use 2 masterie points on wealth but you dont use them in your starting items... do you realy feel that 40 extra gold is more usefull then 2,5% EXP gain or +2 manareg?
