Pros and Cons of Blitzcrank


Pros.


1. Displacement + CC Kit
2. Tanky with Tear of Goddess
3. One Clutch Rocket Grab turns the game around

Cons.


1. Zero Sustain, Danger of Getting Harassed
2. Have only ONE way of escape OR you can use
3. Unreliable - Requires Well-Placed Skillshot

HYBRID Pen Marks - Perfect for Hybrids (AD Powerfist + Magic DMG Rocket Grab + Static Field)

Seals of Armor - Still the best

Flat MR Blues - Very good vs Heavy AP poke supports like Zyra, Sona etc
Flat Mana Blues are really good especially after the nerfs to his mana pool.
Flat Cooldown Reduction Blues - more Powerfists + Rocket Grabs

Quints of Movement Speed: MS is the most important stat for catching and running away

No more than 9 Points into Defense as they are useless points.

Biscuits Mastery Point is crucial for the laning phase as it gives me Health AND Mana.
Mana regen + Mana is crucial for his Passive: Mana Barrier.
The Movement speed boost + Cool Down Reduction are the most important stats for Blitzcrank.
Summoner Spell Cool Down Reduction for more Flash Rocket Grabs.

Summoner Sets

Primary Set
Ignite + a bursty ADC = huge kill potential in lane.

Flash ALWAYS for Flash Rocket Grabs.
Exhaust & Flash
Exhaust will ONLY be taken vs Tanks or Assassins as it is the best peeling summoner spell for your ADC.
The kill potential goes down but the protection goes up.
Take it vs tanky supports or early game power ADCs.

Dorans Shield - Best item vs heavy auto-attacking ADCs + Safe Laning

Ancient Coin - Very risky but gives you space for a ward

Relic Shield - for getting gold ASAP but only get it vs lanes where you CAN use this without getting harrassed down.

Make sure you swap this out for ancient coin later as Talisman is the BEST item to have on Blitzcrank.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
Tailsman is by far the best gold regen item because of its cooldown and movement speed boost you get from it, allowing you to catch almost anyone with Rocket Grab.

The Frozen Heart is for the cooldown and also for the mana you get from it as well, get it only if no one else has picked it up.

Tear of Goddess is AMAZING and by far the best item on Blitzcrank, helps ALOT with his mana issues and also his passive Mana Barrier.

Twin Shadows is kinda of situational item but I love this item on Blitzcrank mainly because it has a catch potential and scout potential which are the 2 most important factors of playing Blitzcrank.

Sweeping Lens is by far the best trinket, denying vision is the best way for Blitzcrank to shine.

Boots of Swiftness is actually better than Mobility Boots after the nerfs to mobi-boots.
Build Order
I like getting the Ancient Coin and then getting gold for Swiftness and Tear first then Sightstone.

I really like movement speed and mana items as they are the 2 most important stats for Blitzcrank.

Make sure you get some wards after you get Tear as you will be spamming abilities and stacking up the tear meanwhile placing wards around the map. Do not rush Ruby, there is no point in rushing as you can only have 3 wards out there now.

Situational Items

Banshee's Veil
Very good vs High Poke, MR Burst Heavy Team Comps (vs Nidalee etc.)
Locket of the Iron Solari
If you see no one is buying it then buy this vs AoE Team comps and MR Heavy Team comps.
Iceborn Gauntlet
This is a really good CC item as it slows that one person you catch FOREVER.
Only buy this if you are ahead and vs Heavy AD Team comps, as this is a very good snowball item and maximizes the damage output with power first and the constant slow makes it impossible for the enemy to run away.
Randuin's Omen
Get this if you see yourself being in the face of the enemy ADC 24/7 in teamfights.
Trinity Force
Trinity Force is a very good utility damage item and has always been the best damage item on Blitzcrank (especially Blitzcrank Top)
Thornmail
People love autoattacking you.
Zeke's Herald
When your team is full of AD champs looking for Lifesteal and Extra AD
Warmog's Armor
If you are vs Heavy burst team comps and you are looking to be one of the main tanks.
Muramana
Upgrade Option from Tear, I like this only if I see myself spamming Power Fist in teamfights.
Seraph's Embrace
I like this upgrade option from Tear the most because it does alot of burst damage on to the person you grab.
We have to remember that the Rocket Grab and Static Field do MAGIC DAMAGE and the damage output is QUITE HIGH.
I would highly recommend this upgrade from tear also because of the 2nd shield you get even after the Passive Shield comes in.

I max Overdrive FIRST as it gives me the ability to get into position easier to land my Rocket Grabs.
I highly recommend this as this will significantly improve your Rocket Grab Percentage.

Then I max Power Fist as it goes on a very low cooldown and i can use it many times to peel for my ADC or APC from tanks and Assassins.

Rocket Grab is maxed last although it does a huge burst damage because it's not reliable.
Only Max Rocket Grab first if you think you can burst someone in lane vs squishy supports.

Max Ultimate whenever you can.

Skills

Mana Barrier
Now this is what makes Blitzcrank have the 2nd chance of surviving.
Tear of Goddess can be built to make Blitzcrank a HUGE tank due to this strong passive.
This is why mana IS SO IMPORTANT for blitzcrank, especially for early game laning phase.
Rocket Grab
Very simple: If you can't land these then Blitzcrank is just not for you.
Please smartcast this to save time and for quick reflexes.
This skill should be used with patience and should NOT be spammed.
It uses a lot of mana during early laning phase, especially after the nerfs so be careful!
Try and not to miss more than 2 to 3 grabs per game.
Overdrive
Use this to get in position for the Rocket Grab or just to scare them away to zone them out of XP and CS.
You can also use this to move around the minions and just simply scare the crap out of the enemy ad carry whos trying to cs.
This is what makes you so obnoxious to lane against.
Power Fist
This is the follow-up damage after landing your rocket grab.
This is the main CC tool that you can spam in teamfights to lock up priority targets.
Late game, this has a very low CD and it's an Auto Attack Reset.
Amazing for taking down towers fast (with OverDrive on) and amazing for maximizing the DMG output.

Full Combo: OverDrive, Rocket Grab, Auto Attack, Powerfist (AA Reset) and Auto Attack then Ultimate.

This is the MAX damage onto that single target you grabbed.
Static Field
This can be VERY annoying for YOUR ad carry who's trying to CS, because your passive will damage the minions.
Simply stay away from the minion wave.

This is VERY GOOD when chasing a SINGLE opponent, just Overdrive and run along the enemy and the passive will continue to tick and hurt the enemy.

Please use this to silence + interrupt + cancel important enemy spells.

Champion Matchups

Just don't even try and grab this guy, try to survive lane, don't play aggressive unless you know you will hit level 2 first in lane.
He's a hard counter but if he gets cocky then grab him under the tower (most alistar players are really bad as well)
Annie

Annie is the superior support and by far the strongest support out of all.
She will beat you regardless at level 6 so it's very VERY important to win the lane early on by grabbing annie when her stun is down or just grab the ADC by hitting level 2 FIRST.
Ashe

Very easy lane, no escape, her slow is annoying, level 6 BE CAREFUL.
Corki

Has escape, but too long of a cooldown , very easy lane until level 6 where he pokes you from a long distance
Ezreal

Don't pick blitzcrank into ezreal, he will arcane shift every grab.
Fiddlesticks

Very easy lane as hes a squishy support, take ignite and kill him in lane.
Ward up always as soon as he hit level 6 as you can easily cancel his ultimate with your E or W or Ultimate.

If you Rocket Grab already and she silences, you won't be able to powerfist.

How to Rocket Grab (CLG. Doublelift Style)

There are MANY DIFFERENT WAYS to Rocket Grab


1. You can just do a casual in-lane + in-brush at the AD Carry

-Diagnoal OR Blind into Second brush
-Get your READY (YOUR TARGET MISSILE DISPLAY SHOULD BE READY)
-Remember that your Range is a bit longer than the Target Missile Display

2. You can the low hp Minions in front of you in order to

There are 3 Doublelift Combos in this video.

Carefully watch how Doublelift the LOW HP minions in front of him in order to and - Tons of CC combined with

Early Game

Blitzcrank lane is very weak level 1 and it's almost always a good idea to invade depending on YOUR Level 1 team comp vs the enemy team comp at level 1.
Your job is to hit level 2 ASAP and pressure the lane meanwhile denying vision in the brush you are standing in with the sweeping lens. Shove the lane ASAP and play aggressive as possible but if they hit level 2 first then it's over for your level 2 aggression.

AGGRESSIVE STYLE


1. SHOULD be zoning out the other ad carry from farming or getting any experience.

2. Try sitting in brushes trying to get some diagonal grabs on the ad carry.

3. Lane Swap and Deny the Enemy Top laner who might be the problem into mid/late game.

Blitzcrank lane should not be Passive if possible
It should be done with an Aggressive AD Carry Champ and be able to KILL the lane.

***GRAB THE AD CARRY NOT THE TANK SUPPORT***


*Unless it's Sivir who is skilled with spell shields, then look for a grab on the NON-TANKY support*

Mid Game

This is the scary point of blitzcrank and the threat and the lack of vision on Blitzcrank can really make the enemy team pretty paranoid.
Roaming is by far the best option at this point in the game as it pressures ALL the lanes and jungle as well.

ROAM


Hopefully, you have shut down the bot lane and got the tower first before you do this roaming...

Ward the river or the tribush, and make sure your ADC is confident and not stupid enough to lane alone.
***(Your ADC should be freezing the lane when you roam)***

It is HIGHLY recommended you roam with a jungler with some CC
OR
Roam with a mid laner who can push lane really hard and can have global presence or just really good for roaming.

Go Gank Mid, go ward their jungle, go steal their jungle, take dragon control.

WARDS


Make sure you get a Red SightStone and ward the 3 most important places around the map. Give vision to your team for you to make plays with Rocket Grabs.
Try and catch a few members off guard, most likely their mid laner or the jungler if they are near the bot lane. Always stick with your mid laner/jungler who has CC or just take someone with you who can roam really welll in general. Be a threat, show your presence in lane and also out of lane.

Late Game

Where Blitzcrank Gets to be the Hero



1. at important places around the map, dragon, baron, jungle choke points or jungle buffs

2. Be an obnoxious scout, Press W, and run around, to check for enemy wards with sweeping lens, or enemies who are caught off guard.

3. Force Dragon Control and Baron Control

4. Scare people away (zoning, having control of space, disorient their formation)


You CAN be an initiator as long as you have a 5v5 teamfight comp, otherwise remember to peel with your abilities.
This is why I highly recommend picking Blitzcrank ONLY if you have a snowball team or a full engage team with someone else Stunning or engaging the enemy which makes it SUPER easy for you to grab priority targets in skirmishes.

Team Fights

Here.You Determine the Outcome of the Match[/center][/highlight]

Your Rocket Grab can COMPLETELY turn around the game to your Favour or the enemy's favour

1.If you can grab the AD/AP Carry (which you won't be able to easily at any high elo) grab them.

2.If NOT, press W and act like you are going to grab someone, this will mess up their positioning and confidence (obnoxious)

3. Give yourself some room, tell your teammates to clear the minion waves before doing anything.

4. A sudden FLASH and then ROCKET GRAB combo can work really well as an initiation.

5. This is when gets really handy. Activate it, rocket grab someone. This can be used with flash as well.

A HUGE teamfight has started before you did anything. What do you do?


1. Your #1 job is to PEEL with as much as you can for your ADC, NOTHING ELSE IS IMPORTANT

2. Make sure to use your ultimate when you are in the middle of the team fight so that your AoE silence and damage affects EVERYONE. Your AoE silence is quite effective in canceling some ultimates so use it wisely.

Things to Remember and Keep in Mind



1. You are an INITIATOR/PEELER. (Highly Recommend another Reliable Initiator)

2. Practice your (Go practice any other champs that require skillshots)

3. Go EXPLORE the map for any possible grabs that you can pull off. (THERE ARE SO MANY PLACES)

4. POSITIONING IS KEY. (Be Hidden, have Sweeping Lens, take vision away, play sneaky)

5. Have GREAT team communication and synergy. (Knowing when to grab is very important)


When you get real good with Blitzcrank, you can steal Dragons as well!

there is something I really hate here, with frozen heart and talisman you already got 40% cdr, which is capped. getting a locket or twin shadows really feels stupid- thoughts? :p

Hey man, fantastic guide. This guide had made me fall in love with Blitz all over again. Ive had a an almost 10 game win steak, and its not stopping. I've been dodging thresh for almost half of those games, so this guide must be helping. Keep it up.

@Morsest its really situational i think, if the adc has alot of poke i doubt u want to go with mana per level marks but then again, its reall the skill level of that blitz player when it comes down to juking/dodging spells etc. minimizing the dmg taken in lane

@Lifeless i honestly dont upgrade tear into anything, the game shud be over by then, i honestly never had a game where i had to upgrade my tear, thats like a 70 min game we are talking

You say to build Tear, but don't ever talk about Tear items. Even if you think it's a bad idea to buy them, it would be helpful to include a discussion about them.
