Introduction

About me
I am Rille7 and I am currently a Plat player on eune. I have been playing LoL for about 1,5 year or so. This is my first guide that I actually take my time to write so take it easy on me. And don't blame my english because it ain't my native language.

Twisted Fate is one of the first champions on the game. TF is a unique AP caster with much utility. His pick a card combined with his ultimate Destiny makes him really scary to play against.

You have these choices:
  • to do maxium dmg and regain mana
  • AOE slow medium dmg
  • short cooldown stun with minimal dmg.
And the card you pick can be the card that win the fight or loses it.
His blue card that gives him mana back is really strong because you wont run out of mana in laning face when you want to throw out the extra AoE or 2 sec stun.

  • He can stay in lane for a long time because you won't run out of mana.
  • His gold card and wildcard combo is great harass in lane.

I have played Twisted Fate a lot since he is my favorite champion. So i decided to share my knowledge. So for you who recently bought him or wants to get better with him here is a guide for you guys !! :D

Pick a card:
  • Blue card: more damage and it regains mana
  • Red card: medium damage and AoE-damage
  • Gold card: is a low cooldown stun. 5 ranks in pick a card is a 2 sec stun.

Pros
  • He can push down minion waves quick

  • Low cooldown stun

  • His ultimate is good for ganking and teleport away aswell.

  • He have an extra 4th attack Ap scaling skill that helps with your burst.

  • Awesome splitpushing

Why play Twisted Fate?

First of all:
Doesn't really 'dominate/counter' any other mid lane champion. But some matchups you can push and pressure the map harder than other matchups. Push, farm and roam!
And does not really lose to any mid champion just farm push and roam!


You can get reach high elo with Tf if you learn him and play him correctly like these guys

Masteries

  • 21 Offense for max dmg
  • 9 Utility for ms and rune duration (Don't need mana regen because of blue card!)

Runes

Seals Greater Seal of Vitality(1.08 hp per level and 19.44 at lvl 18) 19.5x9 = 175 Health

For Seal i run hp per lvl mainly because TF is a squishy champion and these runes helps him alot!
TF is not that mana dependent thanks to his blue card.
Other choises: Mana reg lvl if you like to spam ur spells or even ap lvl if you wanna snowball like a sir, last option is armour these runes will help you take auto attacks in middle lane. Acually it's alot of poke from basic attacks in the middle lane.


Marks Greater Mark of Insight (0.95 Magic Penetration) 0.95x9 = 8.5 Magic Penetration

For Marks I use they Standard Ap caster rune. I don't think there is any other usefull rune here. These runes help you deal more magic dmg to your enemy


Glyphs Greater Glyph of Force (0.17 ap per level and 3.06 at lvl 18) 3x9 = 28 Ability Power

For Glyphs i use mr per lvl. These runes helps TF get more mr mid game. You could also run ap lvl but in higher elo i recommend mr lvl.


Quintessences Greater Quintessence of Swiftness (1.5% Movement Speed) 3x1.5 = 4.5% Movement Speed

For Quintessences i use Movementspeed runes because I found out these are more useful than 15 extra Ap in the start. These runes will help you survive when you are chased or when you chase someone. These runes can be the reason you kill someone or not kill them. And Twisted Fate is squishy champion so these runes also help you dodge spells easier so you can avoid damage. Other viable options is gp10 and flat ap.


I found out that these runes worked really well during the time i played TF. He is a squishy champ (little hp) so the yellow hp per level works fine! And the blue AP per level because you don't need any mana reg or something. You have your blue card instead. And the AP per level is better than flat AP.(stronger late game) And the Movement speed quintessences works great to dodge spells and catch people off guard.

Ap vs Ad TF

Pros AP Twisted Fate:

  • easy to last hit with
  • strong CC, rank 5 gold card stuns for 2 seconds. Red card slows for 50%.
  • High damage to turrets. And for even faster turret clearing
  • Strong poke with Enemies will be unable to stay at the lane due to the high damage of your With a low cool down, you can constantly poke.
  • Extremely strong ganks with
  • Enemies are scared of ganks. By picking Tf you will win top or bot lane aswell due to you can snowball to victory

Cons AP Twisted Fate:
  • Takes a bit skill to learn the speed it travels and distance.
  • Low sustain, unless you buy


Pros AD Twisted Fate:
  • You attack faster so you can hear the awesome sound effect of

Cons AD Twisted Fate:
  • Your range is low.
  • Lower burst when ganking. Your damage is more sustained, so your ganking potential is reduced significantly.
  • You usually go bottom when you play AD TF. You cannot gank top when you are bottom. This puts the enemy at top in heaven, and allows him to farm and overextend more. If you gank mid lane, you miss alot of CS and your support will 1v2.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:
Very usefull for securing kills
Good to catch people and get away in scary close combat fights
Amazing backdooring(You will be everywhere):P and good vs beasty casters like Swain.
I don't find this usefull maybe sometimes but not often. buy instead so you can get easy kills with your ignite
Good for early heal baits

Could work if you have flash to. If you want to play really safe, but choose flash before ghost.
Good if you die early in team fight near your base and you can ulti back in :D

Skills

Passive: Second Sight
Twisted Fate and his allies receive an additional 2 gold per kill.

Explanation:

Wonderful passive, just the farming can help your team win the games with the extra gold advantage.




Q: Wild Cards
Throws three cards which deal 60 / 110 / 160 / 210 / 260 (+65% of ability power) magic damage to each enemy unit they pass through.

Cooldown 5seconds
Cost 60 / 70 / 80 / 90 / 100mana
Range 10000


Explanation:
Hurts, poke thing and it's good for wave clearing combined with red card.
Sends out three cards in a cone. Learn it´s range and the path of the cards to become a great TF.




W: Pick A Card
Cast once to shuffle the deck and again to choose your card, enhancing your next attack.

Blue Card deals 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+40% of ability power) bonus damage and restores 65% of the bonus damage in mana to Twisted Fate.

Red Card deals 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 (+40% of ability power) bonus damage plus his attack damage to units around the target and slows their movement speed by 30 / 35 / 40 / 45 / 50%.

Gold Card deals half the bonus damage of Red and Blue Cards (+40% of ability power) and stuns for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds.

Cooldown 5
seconds

Cost 40
/ 55 / 70 / 85 / 100mana

Range 200


Explanation:
Blue: gives mana + most damage good for just stay in lane with lots of mana. And sometimes in team-fights when low on mana use your blue card ( very low on mana)
Red: AoE Medium damage (best cc option because you can hit the creeps so you'll hit your enemy aswell.)
Gold/Yellow: 2 sec stun, low cooldown, minimum damage, best vs single target.




E: Stacked Deck
Passive: Every 4 attacks, Twisted Fate deals an additional 55 / 80 / 105 / 130 / 155 (+40% of ability power) damage.

In addition, his attack speed is increased by 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15% and his cooldowns are decreased by 3 / 6 / 9 / 12 / 15%.


Explanation:
It's like Ionic Spark, gives you extra damage that scale with AP and counts as an auto attack (no mana)




R: Destiny
Reveals all enemy champions (including stealthed champions) for 6 seconds.

While Destiny is active, Twisted Fate can Teleport anywhere on the map.

Cooldown 130 / 110 / 90 seconds
Cost 150 / 125 / 100 mana
Range 5500


Explanation:
Good for ganking escaping and start combat. Get vision and map control. The ultimate is good to catch people that are low too.
First you active the abilty and you will see everyone on the map exept if someone has an Banshee's veil that can block ur ulimate. Then you cast the ability again and you will teleport in the gate anywere on the map. (If it's in the range indicator)

  • Remember you can use it solely for vision too sometimes!
Also don't have to always port immediately after ultimate. Often you can wait a bit, get your card ready if its not off CD yet. (Or even kill people after you ultimate, then port before the ultimate ends)

Skill Order and when to use what

Skill Order: R - Q - W - E
Max R first for increased duration, decreased cooldown, and decreased mana cost
Max Q next for increased damage
Max W next for increased damage
Max E last for increased damage, attack speed, and cooldown reduction



How to use the abilities right?

  • W (Red card) and Q (wild card) to clear waves fast and push.
  • Pick a card and stacked deck for harass
Gold card plus Q very strong for harass/poke. But you will waste more mana. Compared to Pick a card and stacked deck
Wild Cards is a hard skill to hit unless you gold card him first. So it depends on your own skills or the luck. But try to harass with Wild cards alot, if you hit him with a few cards he have to go back or get killed by your flash stun ignite wild card combo. You might save flash if not needed. If he go back to base you will be ahead in cs and have lvl advantage.

At level 9 with 2-3 Dorans you will one shot ranged creeps.
And melee creeps with one red card plus Q for the full waves. And you can start gank :P
Every time your is up try to play aggressive.
Wild card depends on your play-style if you wanna farm quick and try look for a gank or if you want to play aggressive and gold card and harass a lot. Or safe farm and don't spam much abilities. I prefer to play agressive and try snowball for victory. You can spam alot due to your blue card. So if you need mana just pick a blue card and keep harassing

When to gank ???

Things to think of when you are about to gank:
First, Push out your lane, look at the enemies hp.
If the enemy is anywhere below 50% he should die if he is hit by gold card, with the help of your teamates.

Look at the score.
How fed/farmed is the enemy you are trying to gank?


The more CC your team have, the bigger is the chance that you get the kill or your teamate.

If bottom lane has taric or ashe, you can kill someone from 100% to 0 because of the amount of CC. Even if the enemy carry is fed, as long as you keep him stuned/slowed, you will kill him.

The less summoners and escapes the enemy has, the easier it is to gank.



Where are the enemy champions located when you ult?
Your ult sees everyone in thier team. Exept if they have banshee's veil.
If you are ganking bottom and see that the enemy jungler is heading bottom aswell, consider not ganking if your team isn't strong enough and ping bot lane to fall back.

Block incoming spell and gives alot of magic resist. Can help you survive sometimes

Want to rape them? (pick this item if got an easy lane with a good start)
If they have tons of magic resist
Armor and invulnerable "freeze"

Some AD plus AP

Early/Mid/Late Game

Early game:
Farm properly. And harass when you can, a good tip is to cycle your pick a card your enemy will get scared and in the last second pick blue card and last hit. Use your gold card with jungler ganks.
At Lvl 6-13 you should clear the waves fast and push your lane. And run up down and start ultimate.
Gank with your jungler (it's very easy to get kills.)
Get blue buff. Extra mana regain and cooldown reduction ain't wrong :)
Buy right items!
If you push your lane early you could roam, many underestimate this and don't expect this at all. I have snowballed alot by this method

Late game:
Safe and stay behind your team. If you die your team loses alot of damage. You are the AP Dps damage/second.
If enemy team split push try to see if you can pick someone off.
Poke harass a lot with blue buff.
Split push and when a fight starts ult in. In fights keep autoing your E stacked Deck does more than you think.
If you low on mana use your blue card and Q quick. It have saved my life many times.

Team Fights
Kite alot!
Key to TF team fighting is the more W and Qs you get out, the more devastating you can become.
Try to hit as many people as possible with your Qs.

There is many ways to execute a team fight for example you can teleport in and instakill thier carry. Or you can peel for your fed carry. stun and burst whatever tries to kill him.

Remember to practice pick a card. That is the most important skill as TF

Mid Matchups-Roam N Farm is Key to VICTORY

Even if you are losing you will still win if you farm well and help your other lanes. You play against all lanes not only mid lane !
If you are losing you can make your other lanes win with one gank/roam. And you will end up winning anyways !
There is a reason why they ban tf when the other team has a skilled Tf. For example Misaya he almost never play tf in tournament because he is banned 99 procent of the time. And if he ain't banned it's a free win.


The hardest matchups you can get but still winnable:



Her ultimate gives her huge kill potential in lane
Can counter gank well because of her ultimate
High burst, high mobility, you lack the escapes or tankiness to deal with it



Can harass her before level 6
Once she hits level 6 she has massive kill potential on you
Play extremely safe as she has huge burst



One of the hardest counters to Twisted Fate
Can dodge your stun and close the distance
Nearly impossible to lane against if he snowballs
Play extremely passive and look to gank side lanes



Can harass him before level 6
Once he hits level 6+ he has kill potential on you
Safely farm from a distance and look to gank side lanes



Can harass him before level 6
Once he hits level 6+ he's an absolute pain to deal with
Look to steal his blue buff because he needs it to harass



Hard counters you
Her high burst and mobility is extremely difficult to deal with
Farm from a distance with Q once she starts to get strong
Look to gank side lanes, avoid getting too close to her
Consider build early mr negtron cape etc.



A constant pain to deal with
If you get caught in his snare you will likely die
Has a ton of harass
Passively farm and look to gank side lanes



Syndra is a bully in lane with a big nuke
Her long range lets her kite you and keep distance from your Gold Card
She has very annoying harass
Play passive and farm. Don't be afraid to give up some last hits if it's too dangerous to get that close.
Syndra has no escapes, look to farm in front of your tower early on and set up a jungle gank.
Your ganks are WAY stronger than hers. Don't feed her in the laning phase and then look to gank side lanes when you're level 6+.
You will likely be forced to farm with your Qs to stay safe in lane.



He has extremely high burst once he's level 6+
He can easily 100-0 you so it's important to stay very far back and farm with your Q
His stun takes advantage of your lack of an escape mechanic. It's very important to stay far back
You will usually have to give up farm
Look to farm under tower and gank side lanes when your ultimate is up


All other matchups should be manageable.


But however you can win vs all these champions even if it's a hard lane all you have to do is push gank farm and you will be ahead anyways that is TF really famous for. But most depends on your own and your enemies skill level. But remember that Tf is one of the best and scariest mid in game because he gives your team huge advantage with his passive, map control, ganks and objectives like baron, dragon etc. If you can play him correctly !!

Tips

1. When you push ur lane to his tower you can easily do jungle camps like wraiths, simply red card wild card in a good angle so you hit all of them. Same with wolves!
If your jungler is behind i don't recommend take to much from the jungler. Go and take thier wraiths instead if safe !

2. When you gank run to top or bot start pick a card start tele and pick your card while in your ult. This saves you alot of time instead of picking card and then ult, you also have ur card longer(casttime)

3. You can choose to red card wild card in fight if you don't need stun.(good position/safe to deal massive AoE dmg to the enemies) Only if they are grouped !

4. Keep auto attacking and kite in team fight it matters more than you think ! (stacked deck) If you die you r team loses alot of dps. So posision yourself good !

5. If you dubble gank with jungler its a guaranteed kill. 90 procent of the time

Last thing

Twisted Fate is very funny to play. In the beginning he can be quite hard to understand. But you will get better by time. And you will love this champion. If you get better you will DOMINATE MID. Just by picking Twisted Fate will put your team in a big advantage thanks to his

Playing against a TF:
Don't be near TF if he got his gold card up. Try wait it out so he cast it at creeps or don't throw it at all.
Care of his level 6 ganks!!!!!!
I would consider cleanse against him
Try move around in the lane so he can't get easy hits with his Q Wild Cards.
Don't trade when you see he have stacked deck.
Tip: place a ward at the middle of the map near his tower but not i range that he can see it. Then you can see where he is going to gank and tell your team

Others:
He work well with junglers to dubble gank. Will always result in a kill.(very often)
Easy ganks mid with junglers thanks to his gold card. Flash if needed.

Before team fights breaks out try push a lane and ult right in and burst thier dmg dealer. Or if you group with your team for a fight use your to catch people

This is how you do it:


When you have youryou can dive enemy ad carries using your ultimate. You can also force team fights if you're ahead using your Ult+ combo. This is how you do it: prepare a Gold Card and use your ultimate, then ult in and Stun+Q the target. Then as soon as the enemy team goes to collapse on you simply use and it should give your team enough time to respond. If you use this method to dive the enemy ad carry then it will give your bruisers the opportunity to kill the ad carry while they're stunned.





This is my second guide but the first one that I actually take time to write hehehe. So please tell me what you think and what I can improve!
