Hey, Im Alleriaq and this is my first Guide

I have played Irelia for quite a long time now and tried many builds,
This is a Guide to Help everyone not just those that have played Irelia for a long time.

Irelia is a very strong Anti-Carry, Assasin and Brusier. she can be built Full DPS Full Tank but i along with many other find her most suited to the Off-Tank Role.

In this Guide you will find; What runes to use, Why I pick these Masteries, Why these Items and Why not to other items, What to do when you get counter picked by who and how to play at what stage of the game

10 Irelia Pro's and Con's

Pro's
  • Amazing Mid Game potential.
  • Anti-Carry(incentive to go Leroy Jenkins style).
  • very fun to play.
  • easy to farm with.
  • if your strong with her you can come back from behind.

Con's
  • Extremely farm dependant mid-late game

Runes

This is Bassically An All round good Runepage on irelia

With These Flat AD runes you can 1 shot Ranged minions under tower after a single tower shot with your they also make it much easier to last hit

With these Flat Armour runes you are able to trade more efficiently and tank minion aggro for longer

With Flat Mr Runes you can Trade With AP Tops like rumble much easier, If you dont think you will need the early MR (e.g Tryndamere+Shyvana) because they have an ad top and ad jungle you can opt for Mr/Lvl

This is my Mass Regeneration Page with regrowth pendant and 9/21/0 you will be pumping out 38 health regen per 5 and that is extremely strong but be careful as you have no armour runes. you can swap out your MR/Lvl for flat MR if you like and you can opt to swap your reds for flat armour.

This is the Page that i like to run versus a heavy AP top such as Vlad rumble and Malphite.
it gives you the much needed MR and the armour that you don't need as much is swapped out for 4 health regen per 5.

You Can also Run MS quints if you like the mobility more than the extra damage for last hitting.

Masteries

The Masteries I Use on Irelia are 9/14/7 Taking the Armour Penetration in Offense, Some of the Armour and MR, Health Regen, Flat health and Indomitable Mastery, While in the Utility tree I take the Mana Mastery and the Recall Mastery(lets face it how many more times do you find yourself dying with 1 more second left on the Recall timer compared to 15 seconds on flash)

I take the Masteries in the Offense tree because the Ignite Master Armour Penetration and Extra AD are all quite nice
I take the Masteries in the Defence tree because they make my early game that much more tanky, you can Swap around the 4 points in the Armour and MR accordingly to help in your match-up
I take the Masteries in the Utility tree because I find that the mana regen you get from them helps alot more than going further into the defence tree because it makes your much less mana intensive.

However, you can go 9/21 and build more tanky for example . But your team will usually have a Tank.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:

Ok so this Spell is Kinda self Explanatory.
I like this Over and simply because it gives you so much more kill potential while the other summoners dont.
This spell has its uses but on Irelia Flash is just plain better.
Okay so ive tried this spell with ghost and its meh you should only ever do this if you are in a troll mood (normals not ranked).
This Spell is actually quite good on a lane where you need to lower their dps to 1v1 them for example renekton and Darius.
This spell is okay for ranked 5's when you want to split push late game, TP gank bot or Fight for Early Dragons to make it a 4v5 in your teams favour.
Find a Different guide/Champion if you want to jungle.

Skills

Passive: Ionian Fervor
Each nearby enemy champion (to a maximum of three) reduces the effectiveness of Crowd Control on Irelia.1 Champion: 10%2 Champions: 25%3 Champions: 40%

Explanation:

This Passive is one of my FAVOURITE passives in the game as it allows you to do exceptionally well as an Anti-Carry with 3 champions around and mercury's treads you get approximately 55% tenacity you you can dive in and a stun that would usually stun you for 3 sec would be about 1.5 seconds.



Q: Bladesurge
Irelia dashes forward to strike her target for 20/50/80/110/140 (+1 per Attack Damage). If it kills the target, Bladesurge's cooldown refreshes and refunds 35 Mana.

Cooldown 14 / 12 / 10 / 8 / 6 seconds

Cost 60/65/70/75/80 mana

Range 650


Explanation:

This Spell is what makes Irelia able to be an Anti-Carry, early game you use it to last hit and harass, mid/late game you use it to dash to the enemy Carry and Kill them. I max this after W because of the amount that the CD gets reduced after every level and as Irelia is an Anti-Carry she will most likely need to dash more than once. A nice trick with Irelia is to Bladesurge to a low health minion then Bladesurge to your target for that extra distance.

Later on when you have Trinity Force Q+W+Trinity Proc will kill a range minion in 1 shot so keep this in mind so that you can Double Dash. I choose to max this 2nd Because of the Cooldown and when you have sheen/trinity it gives amazing burst damage. Although your E may say it does more burst, this resets the attack animation and sheen acctually makes it do (+2) instead because they work together.



W: Hiten Style
Irelia is skilled in the art of Hiten, passively giving her physical attacks 5/7/9/11/13 health restoration. Activating Hiten Style adds 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 true damage to her physical attacks for 6 seconds and gives her physical attacks 10/14/18/22/26 health restoration.

Cooldown 15 seconds
Cost 40 mana


Explanation:

Irelia's Bread and Butter Skill, it Gives her Great sustain with the passive, the True Damage has amazing Synergy with attack speed from wits end. its great for shredding anyone and everyone at every stage of the game, this makes Irelia able to crush anyone in trades, DO NOT FORGET that you can activate it to get double the lifesteal. You Max this first because you need the extra sustain and True Damage.
Note: You can life steal off towers with this.


E: Equilibrium Strike
Irelia's attack balances the scales, dealing 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+50% of ability power) damage and slowing the target by 60% for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds. However, if the target has a higher Health % than Irelia, then the blow stuns the target instead.

Cooldown 8 seconds

Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana

Range 425


Explanation:

This is Irelia's Main CC even though its not always a stun you should use it for a slow even if you go to harass this is the main mistake I see people make they trade and wait until their super low to stun trust be told, the slow is just as good as the stun. I Choose to max this last as you don't need the extra burst and the Q CD is much better Then the stun as you have to much lower cool-down but there will be situations where E>Q such as you need that little bit extra cc but usually Q over E almost every time.


R: Transcendent Blades
Irelia summons 4 spirit blades that she can fling to deal 80/120/160 (+60 of attack damage) (+50% of ability power) physical damage to enemies they pass through. She heals for 25% of that damage against champions and 10% against minions.

Cooldown 70/60/50 seconds

Cost 100 mana



Explanation:
Sadly this spell Can only be used for Sustain, Lane Pushing and Trinity Proc's as it has been nerfed right to the ground although it is still very good to get at 6,11 and 16 it is just no as good as other ultimate that other top laner's have.
note: do not spam if you are trying to trade with someone try to get as many Sheen/Trinity Force Proc's as you can unless you need the extra life/Burst.


AS A SIDE NOTE


from levels 1-4 there is no set skill order if there is an early lvl 1 fight and you need some extra CC get your e if you have to duel someone at level 1 Q is a smart choice. and if you are having a passive lane max your W

Skill Order

Your first 4 level order you never ever be the same. there will be games when you need to get or at level 1.

  • when playing against an agressive lane get q first as it will allow you to last hit safely from the brush, then get at level 2 so if it isn't as safe you can q to a minion then stun them, then at levels 3 and 4.

  • when playing against a passive lane get at level 1, at level 2, at level 3 and again at level 4.

  • when playing against a standard lane get first , then , then and at level 4 get again.

  • If there is a level 1 fight use your judgement on if your team will need your stun/slow from or your extra burst from .


Note: if you do not have to skill up at spawn, DO NOT, this goes for any champion.

Q vs E

okay so there have been some big debates about what to max when you cannot get your here are some pros and cons for each of them.

PROS:

  • Makes Farming easier.
  • The cool down is halved at max level.
  • It allows Irelia to stick to her target which is much needed.

CONS:

  • You are giving up a small increase in stun/slow duration.
  • it costs more mana the more you level it and it gives 35 mana back at ALL levels.

PROS:

  • Extended stun duration.
  • More Damage.

CONS:

  • Your Q cool down will be enormous.
  • Mana Cost increases per level
  • Irelia is not a burst champion.

Item Builds

Item Explanations


All round amazing item the attack speed Synergeyes, the mana means you can spam that little bit more, the sheen proc is amazing, the heath and damage from phage is strong and the slow is borderline broken. I prefer to rush this item if I can.


This item is great when your laning vs an AP such as ,, etc. It is also good if you want to take a little less magic damage from the AP mid and do some extra damage with the +42 magic damage.


This item is great when you need some extra sustain and armour, should only really be gotten if your playing vs an AD and having a hard time trading against them. If you go cloth armour you can rush this item.


if there's anything that will tank you up this is the item, I almost always get this after trinity force just because by the time you have trinity you will not be tanky enough to tank more than 1 or 2 people.


this item gives you a MASSIVE boost to your EHP(effective Health Points) and the revive is godly as you will most likely get aimed because you are jumping onto their carry.


this item is a cheaper alternative to wriggles pretty much instead of armour your getting health, these are good if your lane opponent gets a couple dorans and you want to even the lane out they are also good vs AP.


You can get this later if you need Lots of Magic Resist, The Health Regen and Movement speed are also really good.


This is An alternative to Trinity Force if you have to build more tanky for when your team doesn't have a stronger tank or you just need to get outright more beefy than usual. You can also get this when you'r team is lacking CC and you need just that little bit more. The reason this isnt the core item over trinity force is the fact that it gives you very little damage.


GP10 On Irelia is very strong but it shouldn't be gotten if the lane is even no clear winner or loser. it is very strong when you want to turn it into a later. but otherwise a phage will do the same thing and you can turn it into trinity or Mallet.


This item is meh I've never really gotten it but late game if they have lots of health and not much magic resist (sub 120) it could be okay.


This item can be strong if you need that Wierd Magic Shield thing and want a little extra damage/Magic Resist. To be honest only get this if Wits end is Enough and you don't need the regen from FoN(Stomping a Game).


I see alot of people get this item and I mean alot the times when this would be good if you are taking lots of poke damage instead of big bursty chunks. The Mana Regen can Also Help if you went 21 in the Defence tree because you are building more tanky than normal.


Okay so I've Tested this item a few times this has extremely good synergy with Teleport as it makes you or anyone a split pushing god. This item is usually better than wits end in the Following situation, the enemy's AP has be Crush to no return, they are running a TANK not a Bruiser top, You need to push more and you need attack speed AND health. That is when I've found it to be useful anyway.


Okay so this item is a bit like but Instead of Mana Regen you Get Health and increased Regeneration effects (for your W and R) this item is okay if you need that little bit Extra Magic Resist but don't want to spend 2.5k+ on an item for Magic Resist(During Lane Stage). Most people will argue not to get it but it definitely has its uses. Use your judgement on when to get this item and when not to.(only buy when vs Double AP)


I used to get this Item When I was having to camp in this Brush vs a magic damage dealer and was forced to constantly q minions instead of auto attacking. This item is much the same as as mentioned above this item is meh and people will argue its usefulness vs a but It is some good cheap MR. Philo Stone is Better if you are Laning against an AD, on the other hand chalice is sometimes better vs AP, use your judgement on if you really need the MR or not. This item is only good in a select few matchups (,, .etc(heavy magic harass)) this item costs less than merc treads, but becomes Dead weight after laning stage.


Okay so this item is for a bit of fun. When you want to build more on the DPS side of a Bruiser, you would want armour pen, Damage and some CDR is always nice. well this item gives it all!! however be warned if you go this path then you will be extremely squishy untill you get some health items like a .


This Item is somewhat underrated I have tried this item before and it offers a bit of everything. its like having a pro gamer(that plays a single game) and a casual gamer(that plays a wide variety of games) the pro gamer will be better at that one game whereas the casual gamer will be better at some other games because the pro doesn't play them. (although it is a troll item it is actually not that bad compared to some other items, try it and see what you think.)


If you Buy build this. nuff said.


start Buying this once you have progressed into the mid game where teamfights start to matter do not forget to activate it.

Merc Treads Vs Ninja Tabi

VS





Pros:
  • Tenacity
  • Magic Resist
  • Better if they have Lots of CC

Cons:
  • No Armour
  • More expensive than Tabi by 350
  • If they have very little stuns its not as good Because of Irelia's Passive



Pros:
  • Usually Better for Trading
  • The passive/armour make a noticeable difference when trading with an AD
  • Diving towers is easier even though the passive doesn't stop tower damage

Cons:
  • No Tenacity and the other items that give tenacity are a waste of a slot
  • No Magic Resist wits end will have to make up for their AP carry
  • if they have lots of stuns. Get Merc Treads.

Warmog's Vs Frozen Mallet

Pros:
  • You get Tons of Health
  • You get Lots of Health Regen
  • Complemented very well by Armour and MR

Cons:
  • No Resists
  • No Utility
  • Just makes you tanky (health wise)



Pros:
  • Give you a slow that is broken
  • Gives you More offensive Capability's then Warmogs
  • When you are opting to be more tank instead of getting a

Cons:
  • Doesn't Stack with Trinity
  • You wont Be as Tanky as you would if you Have Warmogs
  • You wont have as much Damage as you would if you went Trinity

What to do VS Laners

START OFF THE CHAMPIONS SECTION

Champions with Larger images are/sometimes harder match ups.

: you may want to start if you aren't very confident as if you sends you to base pre 4-6 or she gets an early kill on you she will snowball extremely hard. some early will help you indefinitely.

: Exactly the Same as Above.

: Farm Farm Farm that's about all that will happen in this lane neither of you should be able to kill each other without gank's. you can get vs him as you will want to gear up for late game. beware if he gets too farmed he will be extremely hard to deal with later.

: This is probably one of the Hardest match up's you will definitely want to start without it he will just bully you extremely hard. rush a and if you think you will still have trouble ask for an early gank as that will put him behind. but beware he can still kill you if he's behind and he has enough items

: The key to this lane is a , and some be careful about pushing your lanes as he works extremely well with gank's.

: If he's good you will have a hard time as he will constant parley you, if he's bad he will use Parley to farm, do not over commit as he has orange's and can can screw you over. rush after boots if you are sustaining fine otherwise get a . can work wonders in this match up.

: When he hits 6 He will hurt you will need ganks to keep him down. when he jumps forward to you with his e turn and > > auto-attack > right after the damage from the auto attack comes through use as it resets the attack animation. build or and if you want to gear up for the late game.

: stand in the brush and when you want to get a minion to it then walk straight back to the brush. DO NOT do it looks like she will do tons of damage to you. ask for an early gank as it will put her behind. is extremely strong vs her after that get 1 or 2 depending on how your going.

: Get if your losing get if your winning get

: and are a must and if extra MR is needed into can work quite well too. his ult shouldn't do too much damage if he isn't fed.

: Get and rush a wriggles. do not fight him if he e's you as you will have your attack speed slowed significantly. wait for his slow to run out before you turn and fight. get

: you want to start then get 2x and turn into if losing lane or if winning lane.

: Play aggressive as possible without getting ganked or taking too much minion damage. rush a trinity as it will allow you to play much more aggressive

: her auto attacks will be a pain in the ass, start then rush you want to get tanky even if your winning when you reach level 4 you can trade depending on the skill level of the Nidalee. if you are struggling get one or 2 . play passive and call for an early gank. if she gets an early lead she will hurt. and when she hits 6 she is extremely strong.

: you will want to start or and rush a / so you can trade and sustain with him wriggles is better than dorans in this match up because you need the extra sustain and armour.

: stay in the bush spam on low health minions to last hit then go right back into the bush, when you hit level 4 you can be super aggressive. you will also want a or a couple . if the laning stage stretches a will do very nicely later build into a .

The same as above for items and laning. if he dashes to you and misses turn around and be aggressive. if he hits his first dash and aims his second at you turn around and fight him.

: build riven as above again ^-^. you can trade with her when you get / as you will have much more sustain than her.

: if you are stuck laning vs a shen you should be agressive very early with your his sustain is not extremely strong untill he reaches 6. you want to get a OR and farm up for late game when you think that his sustain is becoming too much. be careful as Shen is strong with ganks.

: you should win this match up unless he is better skill wise by alot. you want to play agressive as his poison doesn't do as much damage as auto attacks with your activated when the effect wears off you should back off as he will do more damage to you. get an early after or before depending on how much you need the magic resist.

: you want to rush a vs this guy as he will hurt otherwise you also want early ninja tabi, if that is still not enough buy a chain vest that should be fine until later.

: there are 2 things I hate about teemo. 1. he gets too many skins. 2. He's a bitch to lane against poke, poke, poke, poke. so you want to get asap after first back i generally like to start with but if you aren't feeling confident is strong, i choose boots because it makes me more mobile and able to keep up with teemo. you will also want ninja tabi.

: get if you are struggling to keep up in sustain otherwise get a > you should usually win this lane. try to not get baited by his ult for the love of god....

: Udyr's tiger stance DOT believe it or not is magic damage so getting an eary can be quite beneficial if he is spamming it on you if not then you can focus on farm more and get your earlier. I pick over because his stun is a pain in the ass and if he trades with you after his dot you will win regardless.

Rush and , after you back you want to try coming to lane with up to depending on how you are going. in this lane the brush is your friend as he cannot harass you with his Q but beware his e can hit targets through brush.

: well how this lane works is he will spam every single Q on you if possible , you will want to get and/or ]early if possible along with merc treads.

: early is all there is to this lane. That is all your really need after that get your . the stronger late gamer will come down to who is more fed/farmed.

: this guy is extremely hard to win lane against. he will spam you down to the ground and if you get ahead he will still be a nuicanse you will want to get some early or a and call for a jungle gank.

: Be Prepared for his early burst, at the moment his sustain is just about as much as yours. the one advantage he has over you is an insane amount of burst early game, and since your sustain relies on auto-attacking and he can just cast his, you have to be more careful. to counterbuild, you will want to just get tanky so an early // get 1-3 of these only get wits end early if their ap is fed and/or rengar is building ap.

Early Game

For the early game what you should be focusing in on mainly is farming as Irelia is largely an item dependant champion. without farm it is very hard for her to be that anti-carry that her team needs. Your main goal should be more CS than your lane opponent, having 100 CS at 13-14 mins is good. then you want to worry about scores is your lane partner roaming and getting fed while you are just last hitting? if so you have 2 options you can either push hard and ward well stopping them from roaming or you can follow them(I would do with for dragon fights etc. unless you know you can get a tower)

Mid Game

This is Irelia's Strongest part of the game. Why? Because she is an Anti-Carry you tear through AD and some AP carry's with ease. At this point in the game you will most likely have trinity force and the AD carry on their team will most likely have only 1 damage item level 2 boots a couple dorans and a vamp sceptre. you team fight rotation should be W>Q>E>R(to proc sheen/gain life back) while trying not to die. if you kill the enemy's carry that is half of your job done. the other half, you have 2 options A and B. Option A: defend your AD carry from harm. Option B: find another Squishy target and kill them.

Late Game

Late game you should have Trinity force and 2-3 Tank items although you are still scary the enemies AD carry is most likely More Scary than you now so your job is going to get a whole lot harder as the enemy team will be trying their hardest to protect their AD carry. you job is the same as in mid game although you have to be more careful as getting caught you can cost you a baron possibly leading into a loss. so try to stay as a 5 man team. try to gain objectives such as dragon and more importantly baron while trying to push down their nexus.[imgext=]
