Recommended Starting Items
Items after First trip back
| Standard Buy. Slow, Health, AD perfect item for Rengar.
| If you need early lifesteal.
| If you don't need more sustain on top but burst power.
Only if you get early advantage.
Why I prefer this as my Main Build:
| Mercury Treads
This helpsalot because you don't have any skill to negate/avoid hard CC so you need to make the duration as short as possible. So Mercury Treads with theire Tenacity + Magic Resist are perfect for a Roamer / Ganker.
There are only a few situations where I prefer buying
| Frozen Mallet
That Item is just perfect for you. You can benefit from all of his stats. Attack damage, more Life (+ more total heal from
) and Slow. With this Item you can hunt almost everyone down and no one could just run away. Combined with
you can keep the enemy the whole time in your range. Its necessary to negate your lagg of CC in 1v1 duels.
| The Bloodthirster
This item gives you attack damage and lifesteal with a stackable effect. Combined with the increased attack speed from
you will get extra health while dueling. As top lane
I prefer taking
. As a roamer who just gank the whole time you could think of change your
. It gives you nice extra damage trough his critical hit bonus that triggers could trigger with
and you don't need to stack it up if you just like to gank and assassinating enemys all the time.
| Maw of Malmortius
Very expensive but a worthy perfect item for you. While you lose health in a 1v1 dueling situation the unique passive of this items gives you more attack damage. This means you get more lifesteal and survive longer in a fight. Also the second unique passive gives you a nice magic damage shield if you need to jump in for an AP carry kill. I just prefer tanky damage items like this or
. Your burst gets a bit smaller but you can also tank alot of damage at the end of mid or late game. Trust me!
Tanky Bruiser Rengar > AD Carry Rengar
| Randuins Omen
I just think of getting this item if I see the game takes more than 30 minuits and I need to get prepared for late game. This item will save your ass from theire AD bruiser / carry and help you to survive in teamfights. Also the CDR will boost your late game and you can collect 5 ferocity in just a few seconds. That means you can trigger your empowered
like 3-4 times in a teamfight. If you see that you will lose the laning phase against your enemy think of an early
to change it in to
later on and getting back in to the game.
| Trinity Force
Very good allround item but you lose a lot of early dominance if you try to rush it too early.
If you can afford it you will get a nice boost in manyways. Movement, On Hit, Life + More Heal from your W, Attackspeed etc. (Worth it) Try it as a midgame/lategame damage item.
Sometimes its better to stack Armor and MagicResist and not get another damage item. Just also think about
| Mercury Treads
I recommend Mercury Treads. You just need the Tenacity to escape CC. Also buy this if there are more than one AP carry (Double AP - Top/Mid). You will notice the extra Magic Resist in combination with your
| Ninja Tabi
Only buy this if you lane / play against a heavy AD champion / team. Also nice if you struggle against a top AD bruiser and need a fast armor assist in duelling situations.
| Boots of Mobility
For early roaming if you dont need the tenacity or armor from Ninja Tabi or Mercury Treads. Later in the game I would sell them and get Mercury Treads or Ninja Tabi.
| Ionian Boots of Lucidity
Also very nice if you dominate top and can spam your skills. With this boots you can stack up ferocity really fast and could spam your empowered skills 3-4 times in a 1v1 duel. If you chose these boots, the team should focus to finish the game really quick. Otherwise sell these at the end of the mid game and get Ninja Tabi or Mercury Treads for a better late game.
| Sunfire Cape
If you aren't tanky enough try this Item for bonus AoE damage while you chase down your prey. The extra health will push your
. If you don't like to get a tanky late game try
as last slot item.
| Guardian Angel
As tanky bruiser you can troll with this item so bad in the late game. Jump in a team fight assassinating theire AP carry or AD carry hurt the other one get focused down and get revived to kill the other carry and escape.
| Last Whisper
Try to get it fast if you need to Lane against tanky champions like
or the enemy bot support/tank/jungle bullys your teamfights like
. Keep it in mind if the enemy team build alot armor. (But it if 2-3 champions with get more than 100 Armor)
| Madreds Bloodrazor
Always get it against HP stacking top/jungle champs like
. If you can't afford it or like to concentrate on AD power try to avoid 1v1 duel with such HP champions, because you can't burst down 3-4k health.
Also good Items
| The Brutalizer
Very strong in the early/mid game but later on not viable as
because of that I would sell it at late game. Keep it in mind as an option if you don't need extra sustain in the early game. The Brutalizer is a nice little helper with extra burst power. Because of that you can try it as main damage item for your early/mid game on top instead of 2x
| Warmogs Armor
Very nice health tank item. Your
gets incredibly strong if you heal 15% from 3270 (490,5) instead of 15% from 2000 (300). Try to get it always on toplane if you need to lane against a scary bruiser and get him down with poke damage over time(!).
| Atmas Impaler
Really nice (standard bruiser) combination with
. Extra Damage / Extra Armor / Extra Critical Damage. If you need to stack Health for survivability always get this(!).
| Aegis of the Legion
Late game choice if your support can't get it. Incredible strong in your team fights.
Always think of getting this item to get more sustain while assassinating the enemy carrys.
Before you buy it, check your team for this item (or recipe parts of it). The unique effect of such
items only infect your team once(!).
| Youmuus Ghostblade
Not worth upgrading your
to this. Sell your
at the end of the Mid Game or at Late Game and get the rest of you core item build. (More dominance and survivability). There is just one scenario where you need this item. If the enemy team have more than one pure armor tank and
has not enough armor penetration against them.
Useless for your Role but often recommended in alot of Guides
| Phantom Dancer
Alot of people build this item on Rengar. I never would spend my money for it. You get extra movement speed and attackspeed but with your Q attackspeed steroids your don't need such an expensive "non-damage" item. Also you need the slot for other important items in the late game. Attack speed with life steal is not your main sustain!
So don't get it!
If you like to have more attack speed use this:
This is your special unique item, that only Rengar is able to buy. Like every snowball item its pretty nice with alot of stacks on it. It gives you all the boost you need for your early/mid game + extra damage with level up. (After the last nerf it isn't that worthy anymore (Lost its standard +10 AD) but still an option.)
You should get it:
- ...if you dominate your top lane
- ...if you think you can dominate it in the laning phase
- ...if you snowball in the jungle
You should not get it/sell it:
- ...if your team forces teamfights with advantages
- ...if you can't get much kills on top lane
- ...if you get counter jungeld sucessfull
- ...if your team can't forces teamfights
- ...if you are too squisshy to fullfill your role as assassin
So everytime think about the game and your team before you buy this item brainless.
It gets overpowered like
if you can make it stack! But nothing is worse than losing your lane/the jungle because you lag of gold with a
without stacks on it.
You should always sell it at late game. Don't waste this slot with such a "crap" at late game. This is only viable/good at early/mid for a dominance.
