Champion Matchups

Introduction- Why would u play Pantheon

You watched 300? You want to be manly? You want to stomp your top lane opponents? You like his badass look?
Looking for ridiculously easy pentakills?
If you said yes to one or more of these questions, welcome to my Pantheon Guide. I will try to cover all the things i consider vital to his success in the top lane.

Pros:

+Incredible early lane dominance
+Throws a large spear
+Blocks autos and a bunch of skills
+God of 1v1
+Snowballs really really hard
+Lane is hard? Get fed on the other lanes
+Is it a bird? Is it a Plane? NO IT'S MANTHEON
+Fastest base movementspeed in game

Cons:

- If you get destroyed in your lane it gets kind of tricky
- can be mana starved for inexperienced players
- no inbuild sustain
- Ultimate has a long channel time
- no inbuild escapes
- low base health

Im going to cover on how to deal with all of the cons later.

In the end i ulted into there base chasing corki and killed kazix and veigar on my way out.

Masteries

My recommendet mastery setup is 21-2-7, as it provides you with all the necessary perks you gonna need to rock the top lane.

Explanation:

21-2-7 gives you a lot of finishing power with the new better Executioner Mastery that works earlier now.
I like Frenzy on Panth as your e gives you constant crits while lasthitting so you get the as speed steroid pretty often. But ofc you can choose to put this point into cdr aswell for 4 points of cdr in row 1, like shown at the top now.
You can switch your first offensive points between the as buff and the cdr as you wish.

Your last 2 points can go more into utility or to health per level just as you wish.


Another certainly viable setup is: 9-14-7

Gives you the best stuff out of all the trees and lets you trade really efficient with other champions. Still not nearly as good as the old minion reduction masteries.

Was always viable, still is if you can manage your mana properly and dont rely on summoner spells all that much: 19-11

Gives you a good chunk of defenses while giving you most of the benefits of the offensive tree. Still not as good as it was before.

- People tend to start clotharmor + 5 against pantheon and we are not planning on building a brutalizer. So we have to get the 15 armor penetration from our runes.

Also extremely viable choice if you were planning to get armor penetration from somewhere else early, as pantheon has superb scaling on his bonus ad.

You are not jungle pantheon. I wont recommend them for top lane pantheon but if you go into the jungle be my guest to grab those.


Seals

Best in slot. No questions asked. Even if you play against vlad you reduce minion damage and autoattack damage AND the damage from the jungler, seriously i dont know why i should have to explain this.


Not so viable other choice :

Scaling Health. Pantheon lacks base health so extra health might help him. But again resilience is just much better.


Glyphs

Scaling Magic Resist which help you later in the game, because with this build you are going to be the one they focus down first in teamfights. Which is fine because that way your ad and ap carry can go to town on them.

Playing against an ap champion in your lane and want to abuse your already strong early game even further? Grab those.

Secondary runes are not my favourite, but if you are facing someone like top and they dont have any source of high magical damage or you just want to abuse your passive even more go ahead and grab them.


Quintessences

Flat AD for your awesome scaling. Combined with my recommendet marks you deal tons of damage early game and last hitting is a breeze even for beginners.

You really want that true damage early game? Grab those but once you get your last whisper there usefulness will decrease. If your opponent has a smart runepage with loads of armor (say 25/40) or a passive that gives him more armor (jarvan for example) they will help you alot early game. After all it's a preference thing here though.

9% lifesteal just from runes and masteries and due to your passive on your e you get 18% lifesteal on low health enemys( last hits) which gives you tons of sustain. Definitely worth to look into, but they are expensive and i prefer more damage in the early game.

OH MY GOD, are they good or what?! Higher basemovementspeed on the char with the highest basemovementspeed makes those guys crazy good. 371 movespeed WITHOUT boots at level 1 is insane. Take them if you want to be the fastest pantheon on the planet and need more safety while going dorans first.


Summoner Spells

Recommendet :

Explanation:


You don't have an escape as pantheon so you are basically forced to use flash as your out of jail card. This spell is by far the best spell in the game as it allows you to flash - stun people who are out of position, escape ganks, flash over walls, dive someone at tower and flash out while your shield blocks the towershot is my personal favourite though.


You have strong early game poke, strong early game burst and are just an insanely strong early game champion. If you want to start snowballing grab this. It might add the last needed punch to get the kill.
A little trick once you got your Heart Seeker Strike: Ignite early to
a) get the additional 5 AD and
b) get him below 40% and 15% as early as possible to crit him and deal additional damage.You might waste it sometimes but you definitely force him out of lane. (only do it in all in trades)

Other summoners:

- you are a damage beast so i prefer ignite. Makes awesome baits under tower though with double shield and heal.
- ult in, teleport back. Good for split pushing, ultgank botlane once u go back after lvl 6 and then get back to top before your tower falls. Don't really like it compared to ignite though as it gives you nothing in lane.
- jungle panth
- as pantheon you are easily cc'd so i can see this maybe work? never tried it though and if you play smart u shouldn't get cc'd that much anyway.
- Your support is a trolling and didnt pick it? Well you can grab it then. Helps against AS reliant tops like jax.
You have meditation, and know how to conserve your mana so no.
no
flash is better
you shouldn't plan on dieing in the first place.


Skills

This section is mainly for saying you what those spells do. In the Early Game chapter you will find a further explanation on how to use those spells to their full potential



Passive: Aegis Protection
After attacking or casting spells 4 times, Pantheon will block the next normal attack that deals more than 40 damage to him.



Explanation:

This passive is the main reason pantheon stomps ad bruisers so hard early game in 1v1 situations and the main reason i like to play him toplane as you just cant abuse it that well against ap mages. Its not a damage reduction, you completely BLOCK autoattacks and some AD based spells like or . It is also an incredible versatile passive in trades.
Make sure you are not wasting it on cannon minions.


Q: Spear Shot
Pantheon hurls his spear at an opponent, dealing 65/105/145/185/225 + 140% of his bonus attack damage in physical damage. Certain Death causes Spear Shot to critically strike for 1.5x damage

Cooldown 4 seconds
Cost 45 mana
Range 600


Explanation:

Constant low cooldown, low manacost, high basedamage, awesome bonus ad scaling and it can crit for that one last spear when your opponent would barely get away combined with your 100% crit chance on your e.
It also resets your autoattack animation so make sure to use that correctly.

You should never lasthit with this spell because you are going to need every slight bit of mana for your opponent.

I recomment smartcasting all of your abilities so you can combo them much faster.

W: Aegis of Zeonia
Pantheon leaps at the target enemy champion and deals 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+100% of ability power) magic damage and stuns them for 1 second. Pantheon also instantly refreshes his Aegis Protection.

Cooldown 13/12/11/10/9 seconds
Cost 70 mana
Range 600


Explanation:

A stun which makes your e hit 100% in a 1v1 scenario, make sure to get an extra auto in while you'r at it.
A gap closer so you can deal better with ranged squishys like teemo or nidalee early game.
And the best thing people always not abuse correctly when playing pantheon: IT REFRESHES YOUR PROTECTION.
It can be disrupted by stuns while mid air. So if you are facing someone with a stun make sure to either have his stun down before you jump on him, bet on hi being bad or go so close to him (refer to trading) that he has no reaction time to get the stun off.






E: Heartseeker Strike
Passive: Pantheon gains 100% critical strike chance against targets below 15% of their max health.

Active: Pantheon focuses and deals 3 swift strikes in front of him for 13/23/33/43/53 + 60% of his bonus attack damage as physical damage per strike. Deals double damage to champions. Channels for 0.75 seconds

Cooldown 10/9/8/7/6 seconds
Cost 45/50/55/60/65 mana
Range 400


Explanation:

So i've read in other guides that people don't really know what to do with this spell as its channeling, so can be disrupted. I LOVE this spell mid game. A brief comparison will show you why.

We compare: to on their highest ranks.

Channeltime 2 seconds to 0.75 seconds
Cooldown 50 ( can be lowered with passive) to 6
Amount of daggers/swifts 10 to 3
single target damage 600+1.75 AP to 318 + 3.6 Bonus AD
Splits damage when there are more people yes to no

Around lvl 13 u should be good on your way to your bloodthirster giving u 60 and potentially 100 Bonus atack damage for 3k gold. Lets spend those 3k Gold with about a deathcap which gives us approximately 200 ap at that point of the game.
This is when your HSS is godlike.
Katarina ultimate with the full duration on a single target would deal 950 pre resistances and your little e deals 678 pre resistances. Now lets face it, Katarina is not going to hit one target for the full duration with everything so we get nearly a katarina ultimate on our e.
The passive is just icing on the cake to make the spell great in the early game.

One thing i have to add after watching some low level pantheons play. Do NOT use this spell in trades before you either got some bonus ad or its like a finishing move with range when your q is still on cooldown. If you use it in every trade its a huge waste of mana when its still level 1 as you could just autoattack and deal more damage.


R: Grand Skyfall
Pantheon gathers his strength and then leaps high into the air for 2 seconds, crashing down at the target area 1.5 seconds later. Deals up to 400 / 700 / 1000 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to units at the center (down to 50% at the edge) and slows them by 35% for 1 second.

Cost 150 / 250 / 350 mana
Range 5500


Explanation:


This ultimate has so much utility it's crazy. You can jump from toplane to midlane and setup an easier than easy kill for your mid or yourself. You can jump on your toplane opponent when he pushes the lane while you were back buying, arriving with new items and a crushing blow directly behind him.
With proper ward placement you can pick of split people really easy as their ward coverage is useless against your mandrops.

ALWAYS aim this ultimate in the escape paths of your opponents. You need to anticipate where they will run even if they are not running yet. The damage of 1000 at lvl 3 sounds incredible but its not what makes this spell great. Even the slow is not the important part of it. Even if you dont land it on them at all and just in their escape path theres no way for them to escape you. Thats if theres a teammate to followup on your jump (Laning phase).

Later in the game this ultimate has 2 uses. Splitpushing and Initiation.
For splitpushing you just ultimate into the fight once it starts or escape them when you see them coming for you. When you jump into the teamfight the ultimate is really easy to aim and you will do the majority of the damage to them. 500-1000 to 2-3 people at least just with the jump.

When your opponents are starting dragon / baron AND (IMPORTANT!)your team is in position you can jump on top of them and either deal 500-1000 damage to most of them or making them run out of your ult range probably unorganised allowing your team to easily pick off enemys.


And please... Do not jump into 5 people with no one to followup... don't be that pantheon.

Skill Order

This is my main skillorder.

Why over ? If you were going manmode on more often than not you would have to combine your with to deal any damage to your opponent, leading to heavy mana issues in the early game.
gives you a strong poke for low manacost, letting you kite and dominate easily.

What to pick on Level one?

Do not level your spells too early. If your team decides to invade at level 1 you skill to secure the firstblood combined with hopefully more cc from your teammates.
If nothing happens take and welcome your lane opponent with a well placed spear in the face.
Afterwards level what you did not at lvl 1 followed by a second point in spearshot.

Pre 6 Order :

Some people just get one point in your and leave it there until the end. I disagree with this choice, because once you get better at predicting the movement of your opponents it will add to your burst.
If you choose to level at level 11 and 12 you should grab on lvl 13 and lvl 16. More points in don't increase the range, or the stun duration, or the ability to refresh your shield. Just not worth it.



Item Builds

Starting Items

OR

Dorans if you plan on dominating your lane and thing you can kill your opponent quickly, the only downside to dorans is that people might be able to outsustain you with there potions, so as soon as you get some potions your fine. With the new movementspeed pantheon has no issues of getting away from the not so frequent jungle ganks anymore.

Also possible is the new sustain meta with crystalline flask or something like 5 -7 potions and wards.

You can also choose to get the as the item is perfectly suited for your needs of sustain both in health and mana.

Now also viable :

Now theres a couple of possibilities

The laning phase continues normally and you are able to farm just fine:-->
You can get the vampscepter first if you want some more sustain toplane and go back earlier than planned due to ganks.
The moment you get your bt you get incredible sustain and damage, fixing two of your major needs. Once you farmed it a bit you can farm waves really fast and pantheon actually gets a good pusher.


Somehow your teammates feeded everybody and you have to jump around early to help where you can and loose your tower in the process. While you cannot farm as efficiently anymore we have to get a cheaper item to let you keep killing people.

This item can be or the as it gives you health, damage, a slow proc and builds into a useful LATEGAME item.
Afterwards you go for the and deal ridiculous damage.

Somewhere on the way to your you should get your lvl 2 boots.
Here are your 2 choices. I recommend choosing them depending on your toplane matchup.

You are playing against an ap champion and your shield gets kind of useless? Fear no more as those boots provide you with good magic resist and tenacity. They are also the number one choice for later in the game when teamfights start and laning phase ends. You want to sell your and get those once you get problems with cc, or after your 2nd or third major item purchase.

They are my favourite choice when i am against ad bruisers because in this case the damage mitigation really shines. They are also a good choice against ranged autoattackers like nidalee, teemo or jayce. They are also a good choice if you are not comfortable with your passive being your only real defense as it does not help against jungler ganks.



After we get our BT there are 2 paths we can take.


More Damage


2 Options, get one or the other in every build.

- Lets you shred through there resistances especially with your e. Gives you always the 100 bonus ad combined with an unstacked which i used in my example math about . If u are facing a team with lots of armor take this.

- Now actually a really good item. You can even get it as your last item too because the passive now stacks. Gives health, armor shred, arpen, cdr and damage so overall a really useful pick. You can even get this before your bt. Get the bt later then though.

More Defense

This is actually my prefered option as i like to alternate between offensive and defensive items.
You have 2 items to choose from i recommend.

- If you already have a this would be a no brainer. If not you can choose to get the as at this point in the game you have really high damage with your and don't want to get blown up fast. Lately i've been going this route to great success as you fix all of pantheons issues (sustain,health,bonus ad for scaling) with just 2 items.


- Really nice resistances and an awesome passive. The earlier you get it the more often you can actually proc the passive and win teamfights because of it. With this you can be a bit more recklessly and ult right into them to intiate (or just w an overextendet enemy). The little problem at this point is still your low base health so if they want they can blow you up really fast and than kill you again when you are revived. If your team does not have an advantage/good tanks/initiation i would get the first.





After picking the items correct items for the situation (defense first or offense first or alternating) you get to this setup:




I feel that those items are optimal on pantheon as you get health, sustain, damage and the much needed GA for a melee ad carry/bruiser, effectively overcoming all of his flaws. ( can be replaced with )


Recommendet 6th item choices



- Crits, 80 more damage for your scaling, ridiculous damage on your autos, you are now a real damage beast. You get some real strong finisher abilities now as you will crit 100% when they are below 15% life with now 260% damage.

- Your kit basically screams : KILL THE AD CARRY! With this youu get tankier and a crazy good active to shut down there ad carry or peel away there bruisers from your carry easier.

- You still think u need more health? Take this one. I personally think the above 2 options are better though as you wont get . You could replace with this but i personally like the damage and utility of fm more.



Until you have your always carry at least to with you to help your sustain (or the ). Don't forget as the only real thing that can stop you from stomping your lane is ganks.

Why no Brutalizer on Pantheon? (Season 2 Chapter)

I leave this chapter in, in case it the Black Cleaver gets hit by some nerfs and it becomes relevant again. After all you can still get the bf sword before the brutalizer, its just that the brutalizer now actually builds into something useful.

A core item on pantheon right? wrong. Lets quickly look at the stats. Analyze what they give us and how we managed to get around them to have a stronger midgame.

25 Attack damage
15 arpen
10% cdr.

cost 1337 gold.

The usual rune setup for pantheon is full ad. As we went 15 arpen in marks we missed out on 8 attack damage to get those. So we actually want:

25+8=33 ad and 10 % cdr. for a prize of 1337 gold.

Regarding the cooldown reduction. Yes pantheon is a so called ad-caster, so you might think cdr would help him a lot. The thing is his cooldowns are already super-short with 4 seconds on his main damage ability early and he shouldn't go for all in trades until his opponent is low enough anyway. This build trys to max his burst to abuse his passive rather than more sustained damage(not really sure if it its more at that point due to his awesome scalings). Furthermore you are more limited by your mana early game than your cooldowns.

Long story short CDR is NOT core on pantheon.

Now what are we building instead?

If its a farm lane we go for the .

What do we get from this?


+12 Ad
-10% cdr
-313 gold

+ builds into an awesome LATEGAME item. that makes you hit like a truck.

A long sword gives 10 ad and cost 415 gold so we got that gold point covered. I explained why i dislike cdr on pantheon above and everything screams buy the .

The other option i explained in the item chapter would be the .

Now what do we get from this?


+225 health
-15 ad
+22 gold
An amazing slow proc which makes your chasing a breeze.

It builds into a core LATEGAME item (you see a pattern?)


Remember you should only go this way if somehow the laning phase ended too early and your would be too delayed.

To sum it up

Pantheons early game is amazing. You should be easily capable of denying your opponents a lot of cs and be ahead by 15-25 cs. This in gold is about 300-500 gold WITHOUT getting a kill. That way you would get your bf sword when they get there or whatever they choose to buy. With pantheons superb ad scaling you will still be able to outtrade or outpoke almost everybody leading a further cs lead and an unstoppable midgame.

Even if you are not able to get this cs lead on your own lane (I'm looking at you ) you can either gank midlane with your ultimate or farm passively to get a huge burst 300 gold down the road (im talking here).




Early Game - All about laning phase

First of all DO NOT level your skills instantly as explained in the skill order chapter.
I am going to fill this chapter with general information, for specific champion advice i refer you to the matchup chapter. I will consider early game until you get your .


lvl 1-5

lets assume no invasion happened so you are on equal grounds heading to your lane.
Welcome your friend with a well placed spear and start lasthitting.
You have 2 options here.
Option 1: Let him push the lane and maybe sacrifice a minion or two. This way you fix the last problem with pantheon, his missing escape from ganks.
Option 2: You are 100% certain where their jungler starts and its luckily on the other side of the map? No level 2 ganks possible? Go ahead push the lane a bit and get level 2 first. Level 2 is pantheons most important level as you get your aegis refresh button.

The most important concepts


Trading


Once you have your passive up you can than choose to start hitting him by walking up to him and autoattack him. Do not waste your refresh as a gap closer if you still have a shield up.
I cannot stress how important this is ,as it provides you with 2 free autoattacks via shield and one more due to the stun on your w + a spear shot. this is ~ 200 damage after resistances (lvl 2) you can get on them for free and walk away unharmed as they are still stunned. Immediately refresh the shield with the moment your first is popped.

Ok but what if they run away? Congratz you effectively zoned them and are ahead in xp.

The above rotation is your basic non all in trade i was talking about all the time.


Against ranged champions who pop your shield before you are close to them the same theme stays true. Let them pop your shield and then immediately refresh it with your as its pratically even a gap closer. Your autoattacks usually are stronger than theirs when they are ranged champions so you should hit them to win those trades. But ranged champions are a whole other story involving your spear. I will go into that in the matchup chapter.


Mana conservation


So you think when you have meditation that you can spam your spear nonstop and do the non allin free trade all the time? Well unfortunately it is not that easy.
At all times try to have at least 130 Mana left. That way you can still throw at least 2 spears and a refresh/stun/gap closer (sounds op right?) when a jungler ganks. If you keep that mark in mind, you should not have much issues.
Another thing you should remind yourself is: autoattack them whenever possible.

2 things will help you never get into big mana troubles.

1) Never give up a lasthit. Seriously think about it. Do not chase them when they run away, just lasthit normally and when they want to get close to lasthit you hit them with a spear,
if they still want to last hit you go for the non allin trade,
if they still want to fight against you back off a little bit into your minions and kill them, that is why you have 130 mana left at all times.
Pantheon is not reliant on early game kills but on farming his early. You can achieve this just as good with getting every single last hit.

2) Stop them at level 2 and a half and at level 4 and a half and save your mana for the next level of your spear. That way you get more damage for your mana.

If you start playing at a higher elo people will have diversed runesetups. Probably starting off with 25 armor or 40 armor (extreme) against a poke champion like you. Yes you won't be able to chunk them that hard with your q anymore, but you still can farm just fine. Freeze the lane and call for a gank to get that additional damage you need for the kill.


In the first few games you probably will just spam your and eventually get out of mana but if you are having the mindset of only getting your opponent far enough from the farm to not last hit efficiently and farm as much possible you will overcome those problems.



Pushing and Freezing

Pantheon is a bad pusher in the early game and he has no escape so you really want to freeze the lane on your side of the map. That means before it reaches your tower but after the mid of the lane, the best spot is when they are just above your big thick wall on the south side of toplane.

Once you somehow made the wave pushing (he pushed it into your tower for example) and you managed to zone your opponent well enough (so he cannot repush hrhr) you are trying to shove the lane into his tower with autoattacking asap. Do NOT use your spells for this. If he still can lasthit a bit (ranged guys, guys with good sustain for example) let them repush your lane and freeze it again.
You can freeze a lane if you let minions from the previous wave attack the minions from your incoming wave until the new wave from them arrives. Make sure the wave does not get too big. I think around 3-5 ranged minions left is a good number to memorize. When the lane is freezed you only want to lasthit and maybe push (continue autoattacking) a bit to not let it get too big. Remember you do not have an inbuild sustain so tanking the minion wave early hurts you quite a bit.

When you poke your opponent when he has a bigger lane make sure to not get hit by too many minion shots are trades are not going to go in your favour everytime.



That's all for the concepts. Abuse your early game kit as much as possible. From level 1-5 you are a real monster.


lvl 6 and further



Ok you probably have your 2 now a bunch of pots and a ward against jungler ganks.( i hate you eve and rengar!) If you freezed your lane correctly jungler ganks shouldnt be an issue anyway.

So, what we got here? Everyone got that great ultimate which deals tons of damage and you got that strange jump? Well yes, but while your 1v1 capabilitys get weakened a bit you can setup amazing ganks with your jungler and mid on the enemy mid ( even without the jungler). You have a stun, your mid has burst = there mid is dead. Everytime you have it up. This way not only will you get fed for your midgame but your ap carry also. And what is the strongest champion in the midgame? Right you, oh wait it's the ap carry.


The other option would be : you are so far ahead of your top lane opponent ( when they still run around with )that you can just ult behind them right after you pick up your bf sword and burst them down the hardway.


But what do i do in an even sitation when that darius gets his op bullshit ultimate that has no cooldown?
The trick is to poke him down. Once you level up, your mana issues go down. Keep lasthitting, don't go in the all in fight and kite kite kite. Once you have him low enough go in for the kill but really expect his high damage burst. This comes with experience.


Mid Game - Time to dominate everybody.

Midgame comes quite early for pantheon. The moment you get your bloodthirster stack it a bit and you will oneshot ranged minions and later all minions with a single e. This way you get time to roam and setup more kills and objectives for your team. You are one of the strongest champions on the map right now, your damage with your spells is absurd. You basically have a on your e. You have no mana issues at all anymore, no sustain issues anymore and can 1v1 basically everybody especially the ad carry.

If you managed to get a little lead in your toplane and a real early bloodthirster you will see why this guide is called Watch them disappear and why i teased you with ridiculously easy pentakills.

Help your team and play smart, push towers, go for dragon fights. Use your ultimate as explained in the skills section but be careful with ulting directly into them before you at least got your .
Make sure you deal as much damage as possible, if a carry is exposed go for him. A combo +
2 autoattacks 100 to 0 almost every ad carry at this point.

If no one is exposed peel for your carrys. You excel at this because you have crazy high damage and a single target stun. Peeling means you stay close to your carry (preferable the ad carry) and


Be careful because if they burst everything on you you will die fairly quickly without the . But then again, they did not burst your ad carry and ap carry so they can go to town on them.


If you somehow get behind and your bloodthirster is abit delayed (post 20-25 minutes) you are still going to have a ton of damage once you get it. I frequently manage to carry games after having a not so good laning phase just because pantheon does such high damage. You will catch up on them if you do not get caught all the time and manage to have a meaningful impact on the lategame.



Late Game - How did that happen?

The game did not end earlier? No 20 minutes gg? Better give up as your useless now? No, you still have a lot of utility to bring to the table.
As said in the midgame part you excel at peeling for your carry.

If you were behind before going for the is the safer option as you can shutdown there carry with your single target stun, the active on it and your overall tankiness and damage due to your build.

If you were kind of ahead but simply could not close it out just yet, go for the and rain terror on their squishys or hurt there tanks. You buy for a reason. Still you have to be careful of not getting chain cc'd.

The preferable option in teamfights now is peeling because together with your ad carry you can take down everybody really fast.

You can splitpush under wardcoverage when your ult is up and your team stays in ult range.

There is really not much more to help you as everything gets really situational right now. Fight for baron, towers objectives, buy elixiers before teamfights and do not get caught as it can cost you the game.


Team Fights

So what do you bring to the table for teamfights?
A high damage Aoe Nuke at a certain spot to disrupt positioning.
A single target 1 second stun with a gap closer.
High damage with your and autoattacks.

Once you have your and/or you can also initate teamfights when the opportunity arises and your team is ready to follow up with a combo on a high priority target aka the ad or ap carry.

Another and my late in the game prefered option is peeling for your ad carry as said above. This means you use your stun and high damage with a last whisper in your build to help your carry get rid of people who dive him asap. (Do not try to stun olaf!)

Another option you have is repositioning yourself behind their lines with your and go on their squishys. Be careful when doing this though as they might just turn onto you 5v1 when your team is not able to followup on you.

Another huge use of your is the fact that it can disrupt channeling ultimates like the ultimates from katarina, nunu, malzahar or warwick.

Matchups

For clarification:

easy means you should win this lane no matter what.
EASY means i only met really bad players of that champion, certainly possible though that it gets to a easy-mid over all rating.
easy-mid means early on you have a clear advantage in this lane but as time progresses your opponent can get strong enough to be on an even ground.
mid this lane can go either way and is highly player dependant.
mid-hard this lane is really hard for you and you have to play top notch or coordinate well with your jungler. Remember pantheon has a targeted stun so ganks are really strong for him.

Difficulty: mid
You can block his with your . Make sure you don't get hit by his and don't go for 1v1 engagements before poking him with the spear as his passive will win him the fight early. After all he is a melee champ and you will burn through his potions really fast. Use your to disengage on him when he hits his on you. After level 6 be careful about his . It will probably be kind of even in cs so go ahead and get your kills at the mid lane if you have to.

Difficulty: easy
This is a laughable opponent most of the time. You block his only harrass ability with your . Once he has back your is back. If hes smart he will go for more points in his and to sustain and get additional attack damage. Notice him shooting in the air and trade, disengage with your if you really have to, but you can bully him with your .

Difficulty: easy
She's a melee champ. Keep hitting her with your but be careful as her early autoattack damaga is exceptionally high. So kite and poke her low enough as usual. Your shield blocks her entire ultimate which i feel is kind of funny. Do the double block in your minions most of the time and you come out on top of this matchup. Also has less utility than you later, just damage.

Difficulty: easy-mid
His gives him life regen every 9 seconds you are not attacking him. Your is on a 4 second cooldown... well, you know what to do. Don't spear him when his is up and disengage with your if he really wants to get personal. You outpoke him hard. If he goes back to heal from his passive you get free farm and ahead in cs. At level 6 he gets a magic damage ultimate that deals quite some damage but afterall he was a melee without a gapcloser or stun in the early game so you should be way ahead by now

Difficulty: easy-mid
Yes Heimer, go aggressive on him early on you can chunk him for half his health with the trade combo. Yes he is squishy as hell but do not overestimate yourself. Stay away from his turrets and farm. Try to have 3 minions ahead of you because his 3 rockets hurt quite a bit. Do not dive him into his turrets. Play careful, spear him and eventually you are going to get the kill. If he gets the firstblood on you which is entirely possible if you just charge in like a dummy after lvl 2 it is going to get a hard lane as you cannot touch him. At level 6 you can use your ultimate to gap close behind him and as he still is really squishy and dies fast.

Difficulty: mid
Melee champion poke her but be careful of the when she is low. Do not trade when her is up and just farm up. She cannot use her lifesteal if she cannot autoattack much, so try to hold her away from the minion lane with your . Don't stay too close to low hp minions as she can to you really fast. Disengage with your if you have to and you should be just fine. Her lategame is godlike so you want to deny her a lot in the early game. If you manage to freeze the lane and then zone her you are golden.

Difficulty: easy early, mid later
He has a weak early game so abuse that. If he doesn't play defensive and gives you a big cs lead you can abuse him early. Your blocks his and his . Do not attack him when he uses his and disengage with your if you have to. By no means give him an advantage via ganks. If you are behind the mid of the lane be extremely cautious, give away minions if you have to and buy wards. With correct poking and shield use you can kill him post 6 just fine if you are on even footing but you have to be careful as he is really good at 1v1. Hopefully you denied him enough so you are a good bit ahead. Abuse your mid game as his lategame is even more deadly than irelias.

Difficulty: mid-hard
He is ranged, has awesome poke and tons of damage on his . Dodge his cannon combo by all means. If he initiates on you with his gate throw a and back off, if he hammers you to gap close (i think you can block that with your shield not sure on that one though) immediately him and back off again. You basically have to play really careful and him as much as possible. If he pokes you retaliate with a , try to last hit as much as possible and coordinate with your jungler if possible. Once you are ahead you still have to be careful, but you can kill him depending on his build. He won't give you a new problem at lvl 6 as he does not have a good ultimate on his own.

Difficulty: mid
She has range and high damage on it early game. Her Amplifies her damage against you so be careful. Stay in the brush most of the time and always her when you go in to lasthit. She is naturally squishy so if you can get your jump on her once her abilities are on cooldown you should be able to kill her. Don't towerdive after level 6 because of her ultimate.

Difficulty: mid-hard
His high autoattack range can really make your life hell. You have to abuse the brush here as much as possible and always try to retaliate with your spear. Avoid his shurikens and call for ganks early. If you get ahead somehow your spear will really hurt him. Otherwise try to farm as good as possible and once your level 6 gank other lanes to catch up.

Difficulty: mid
He won't kill you, you won't really kill him. If you want to kill him you have to go for it really early but he can just you and run away so don't account for this. His passive also lowers the damage of your poke alot if you let him get it back up all the time. Try to pop it with autos when he comes in to lasthit as after all he is a melee champion and if he goes back to reshield you get free cs. Care of level 6 ganks as his ultimate can easily set you up for a kill. Also his teamfight utility is higher than yours and he stacks armor.

Difficulty: easy-mid
He is an ap champion so your doesnt help you that much. His poke hurts but it has a noticable cooldown so you can poke him in between. Once you are level 2 you can go really aggressive on him once his poke is on cooldown. That's the main thing you have to do against aps early when there cooldowns are still high, go in close and personal and hurl your at them. If you think you get poked too hard you can choose to buy 2 and build those into mercs and later on the guardian angle. Always buy mercs against ap champs.

Difficulty: easy
His laning sucks, his early game sucks, he said i want to loose once he picked that champion. Nasus is a really situational pick and pantheon is the situation where he does not want to pick it. Poke him with , still abuse your and completely play with him. Care his and jungle ganks as you really don't want to feed him too hard. Impossible to loose imo.

Difficulty: mid
Mid because she is ranged. Get close and personal and hit many autoattacks once you are level 2 while popping a potion, she cannot trade with you at that point and if she does she dies. Don't get poked by her autoattacks, always retaliate with your . Be careful on level 1 to not take too much hits as you do not have your gapcloser yet which you desperately need against ranged champions. Once your gap closer is up make her fear that and care of her spear spell. Once you get your BT you can basically kill her with 2 combos so make sure to chunk her a lot.

Difficulty: mid-hard
He gets stronger the lower he gets due to his . He has a ranged poke on his like you. And he has truedamage on his . Furthermore he has sustain and attack damage on his and after level 6 he gets close to ungankable. Dodge his by all means and poke as much as possible. Your shield blocks non of his spells and the lower he gets the faster his autoattacks get. If you manage to dodge his axes and dont get truedamaged every time you walk up to lasthit you might be able to outpoke him early to the point that hes low enough to kill him, but it's really tough. Only go in for the kill when you have a huge health lead. Later in the game he will dive your carrys and there s not much you can do about it but bait his ultimate or focus him down immediately. After all it comes down to the skill of the player.

Difficulty: skilldependant
Actually you cannot block his . Otherwise, abuse your shield as much as possible and try to outplay him.

Difficulty: easy-mid
Melee caster with good gapclosers and a stun with 50 fury. He gets fury once he is on top of a minion wave. Well we are the king of zoning so we throw our spears early on him to not get him on top of a creep wave. Use your for his autos. Play smart, kite him as much as you can and abuse the fact that you have a ranged poke and he doesn't. Disengage with your if you have to. At level 6 he gets a huge steroid and free heal bait so care about that. You should be ahead in cs buy now and should outpoke him. If he starts with armor quints he might be able to sustain through your poke. Care the damage of his abilities and disengage with if you have to.

Difficulty: easy-mid
Unfortunately no rengar played ap against me which would be the correct and much stronger choice so i can only say something about ad rengar. You block his . With double block and him being dumb you can block both s which is highly unlikely though. Your hurt him a lot early. Stay at the south side of the lane so he cannot jump you from the brush. If he does, do the double block with your to retaliate.

Difficulty: EASY
Her combo pushes the lane. You can easily double block on her. Her can block your if the riven is good so don't leap onto her from too far away. Try to bait her by walking up to her so she thinks you throw the . After its on cooldown hit her with your . You can zone her easily and her abilities push the lane, really easy matchup.

Difficulty: easy-mid
You beat him early game with your . His lvl 1-4 suck yours are godlike, poke him as hard as possible if he trys to get cs not just with his slow range stuff you should be able to kill him easy. Once his got a few levels be careful. He still is melee so you can continue to poke and kite especially when his shield is on cooldown. Easy early gets eventually harder once he gets more level in his spells.

Difficulty: mid
Your actually a fairly decent choice against him, as you have a single target stun to disrupt his ultimate everytime he is in lane. Due to your passive you can even disrupt it when he is under tower without getting more than one towershot. Pack to follow him to botlane if he gets his ult off or use your ultimate to get to midlane. Care when his passive is up so you don't take unnecessary damage. Your q can poke him but he has good sustain and a shield. You probably won't kill each other without jungler interference so farm as good as you can while trying to poke him a bit.
Care his taunt as it sets you up for easy ganks, actively try to dodge it.
Lategame he's the king of splitpushing but with and your you are one of the best champions to hold him in place.

Difficulty: mid
Highly depends on the singed player. Do not give him first blood because you thought his gas just tickles, it doesn't, it hurts. He is melee so you can poke him early on. He still farms good with his gas. Get 2 to counter his gas or go standard if you feel like you can kill him. Once he flings you gapclose to him and walk out of the gas. Be really careful when his is up and play passive.

Difficulty: mid-hard
Unlike nidalee he also has as a poke spell. Be careful at level 1 and only go into his range when your spearshot is up. Always retaliate and retreat out of range after you threw your . At level 2, depending on how low you or the teemo are and how well you poked you can go in for an all in combo. It is really close so make sure to abuse your shield correctly and ignite rather early. The problem you are going to have is the minion aggro here, as it deals a lot of damage at level 2 without the no damage on ranged minions combo in your masteries. If you can make that kill happen or force him out of lane continue to play smart with your spear and always retaliate with it because once you got ahead (extra for example)you can outtrade teemo with it to eventually snowball the lane. If you got ganked at that point or the teemo got ahead of you call for jungler ganks. Your jungler should be more than willing to help you as you have a garanteed stun on your and high damage which will make kills very likely. In teamfights you are going to be more useful then teemo too so don't feel to bad if you are just slightly behind.

Difficulty: easy
His early game ain't too hot. You beat him with your . Don't towerdive him once he has ult, use your ignite short before his ult ends and you can snowball ahead. If trynda does not get farm he cannot be the hypercarry he uses to be lategame. Poke and kite and shield block everything.

Difficulty: easy early,gets tough at lvl 9
His has a real high cooldown so abuse that. His autoattack is non existent in trades so go close and personal at level 2. Go for 2 when he levels up and you did not manage to get far enough ahead early due to him trollpooling out.

Difficulty: hard
Do not get him get ahead early. Stay the same level like him if you can. Bring 4 potions. Call for jungler ganks as yorick pushes with his spells and has no escapes. You have really high damage early game so poke him as much as possible. Once he uses his spells on you run away to your tower so they don't autoattack you. Use the brush because his ghouls won't follow you into it unless he has vision on you. If he follows in you can try to burst him down with ignite (ignite early to reduce lifesteal). Really hard to lane against but if you somehow manage to get your bloodthirster you can still do some amazing damage in midgame teamfights. Buy merctrades and dorans.

If you think i wrote too much easy easy-mid than pls remember i am referring to the early laning phase were pantheon is a monster.

my personal opinion on it is, that buying the early tear, makes you weaker then you should be at that point in the game and limits your snowball potential. Thats why i opt to not take it. Definitely doable though.
