Introduction

Hello solo mid browsers! I am kasac101, i play on EUW and i usually hover in between 1700-1800 elo. I am writing you a jungle riven guide!

Haven't been playing riven as much lately , focused on practicing the strong junglers atm

Riven as a jungler

So riven is a jungler that doesn't exactly fit in the gp10 support tank jungle meta. I am writing you this guide because while riven might not be a perfect jungler in the current meta, she can still be really strong when put in the right comp. She is allso tons of fun and snowballs super hard , which is really good in soloQ. Riven clears very fast and ganks really well, she kills carries really fast , especially. She has huge ad scales on all of her skills ,one of which being a shield , nobody else in the game has that.

In short
In s3 i think Defense is a lot better. Bottom of offense is mostly ad/ap carry stuff so taking it as riven is not really worth it. Defense is an awesome tree right now and you can use all the points efficiently. The top 9 points in offense are still pretty good, though.



Explanation Offense

Sorcery
CDR is very good for riven, this mastery is a lot better than Fury, 4% CDR is a lot better than 4% attack speed.

Deadliness
This is about 450 gold worth of AD at lvl 18. It's a decent mastery and you need it for weapon expertise.

Weapon expertise
Although it got nerfed a little bit, this mastery is still so worth it. 8% armor pen for 1 point is really good

Explanation defense

Summoner's resolve
A nice little mastery point that gives you 10 gold every time you smite , which is quite a lot so that can allready give you a nice bunch of gold

Tough skin
Flat damage reduction is super good against minions , since they attack you for little but very often , so that adds up very fast.

Durability
You put 4 points into this, durability is more efficient than Juggernaut for hp cause you don't get enough hp for %hp increase to be worth it.

Hardiness
I think this got nerfed by 0.5 per point , but its still a good mastery that helps your durability in the jungle early.

Bladed armor
6 damage everytime a minion hits you adds up to a lot , very good mastery for 1 point. Just make sure your mid laner can last hit buffs properly.

Veteran's scars
30 instant health for 1 point is pretty good, makes you a lot more durable.

Relentless
This is a pretty good 2-pointer imo. Although slows don't hurt you that much ,a 15% decrease is still pretty good.

Tenacious
This is an awesome mastery. Hard cc is really tough for riven and this makes it less painfull. It still works allright when you have merc treads and it lets you get away with ninja tabi/CDR boots more often.

Defender
This doesn't really pay off untill teamfights, but 5 armor and magic resist for 1 point is pretty good when you do get that far.

Reinforced armor
This mastery is really strong IMO. Late game AD carries have like 60-70% crit chance so that's a lot of damage reduction for 1 point.

Legendary armor
Put your other point in this. This'll give you 2-4 armor and magic resist late game.

Honor Guard
This will make you quite a lot tankier. 3% damage reduction from everything will reduce a lot of damage.

Marks

Greater Mark of Desolation
I prefer running 6x armor pen on reds cause it is exactly enough to pen through the jungle creeps armor and stacks great with brutalizer to make you do a ton of damage to champions. You can put the other 3 in ad. Another option is running full ad , this makes you do a bit less damage in ganks but makes your early jungle clear a bit safer. Taking those is a bit better if you're not building brutalizer

Seals

Greater Seal of Resilience
This is the best in slot seal for basicly every jungler , these give you a ton of early armor and make jungling a lot easier.

Glyphs

Greater Glyph of Shielding
These are my prefer glyphs on junglers. These give you a chunk of magic resist which is really nice since there is so few gold efficient magic resist items. It's better to run per level on these since you wont be taking a lot of magic damage early.

Quints

Greater Quintessence of Strength
Really the best option for quints , move speed is overkill cause Riven gets around the map really without using a resource. These babies make your clear a lot better early.

Summoner Spells


I dont think i need to tell you a lot about this summoner,this is mandatory on every single jungler



This is my preffered second summoner on riven , it is both really safe and allows for a lot more playmaking. It is good for early , flash can make your ganks a lot more dangerous and get you out of so many sticky situations. It is also super good in teamfights cause it allows you to flash on top of carries , this is super important since your main role in teamfights is going for carries.


It seems pretty attractive to take this on a strong ganker that is allready really mobile , but in my opinion it really isn't worth it most of the time. The main reason to take exhaust would be for catching people out of position and for ganks. The thing is , flash allows you to do these things but offers what i have allready mentioned as well.
All that said , feel free to take exhaust if nobody on your team is taking it and it is really important for shutting someone down on the enemy team (FE Kennen,fiddle)

Where Riven shines

Like mentioned earlier riven can't perform the tank role well at all,all she can really do well is damage and her damage is pretty item reliant. That means you need someone else thats tanky and can soak a lot of damage.

Another problem with riven is she doesn't initiate well , she gets shutdown by cc to hard , you need someone else to go in first.

With that in mind,
Example of team comp riven can shine in


Riven would be able to teamfight really well in this comp. She has two tanky champions that both iniate like bosses, an ap carry that she can kill carries with ( kat wil also get a lot stronger cause her skills will reset after bursting someone together with riven ), she allso has an ad carry that can survive pretty decently without having a bruiser that peels for him.

There is in my opinion two ways to best level up riven's skills.

Explanation Skill order 1
Maxing R-Q-W-E gives you the most raw damage and clear time. This is my personal favorite. I like how fast it makes me clear and how much damage my Q does in ganks. I think his skill order works best cause a maxed Q helps you do what you do mostly early on: ganking and farming.

Explanation Skill order 2
Maxing R-W-E-Q Is focused on reducing your cooldowns , making you able to use your spells a lot more in long fights. It gives you more utility and tankiness to. It's definately also a good way of maxing your skills. The reason i like it a little less is cause it is better for fights/skirmishes early on. This might sound good but early on you wont be in as many 2v2/3v3 skirmishes, you'll be doing a lot more ganks and farming. Skill order 1 excells more at this , which is why i like to use that ,you will still have your W maxed or allmost maxed by the time you do a lot more fights and skirmishes.(mid game)

Passive: Runic Blade

Riven's abilities charge her blade, causing her basic attacks to deal 5 / 5.59 / 6.18 / 6.76 / 7.35 / 7.94 / 8.53 / 9.12 / 9.7 / 10.29 / 10.88 / 11.47 / 12.06 / 12.64 / 13.23 / 13.82 / 14.41 / 15 (+100% of bonus attack damage) bonus physical damage. Riven's blade may be charged up to 3 times and expends one charge per attack.

Explanation:

This is a REALLY strong pasive. It is a really good steroid that gets stronger the more AD you get, this is part of the reason why riven snowballs so freaking hard. This passive makes you get strong with flat ad super fast, You also have it up a lot. All you have to do is be carefull about not using your skills to rapidly after each other, so you can use as many of the stacks as possible.




Q: Broken Wings
Riven strikes out in front of her in a short line. This ability may be reactivated 2 additional times.

1st Use: Slashes forward, dealing 30/50/70/90/110 (+60% of bonus attack damage) physical damage to all units she comes in contact with.
2nd Use: Slashes forward, dealing 30/50/70/90/110 (+60% of bonus attack damage) physical damage to all units she comes in contact with.
3rd Use: Leaps into the air and slams the ground dealing 30/50/70/90/110 (+60% of bonus attack damage) physical damage and knocking nearby enemies away from the point of impact.

Cooldown 13 seconds

Cost none


Explanation:

A really good skill that gives mobility and sustained damage.It scales well with cdr and flat AD. Dont be afraid to use this skill to get around the map if you wont need it to do damage before the cd comes up again. Make sure to aim it past the enemy cause you can really ruin a gank by knocking them back, optimally you should be roughly on top of your target before you use the 3rd part of your Q.

A few things to know about this skill:
  • The 3rd part of your Q will NOT knock people out of your W range as long as you use W right after the 3rd part of your Q
  • When ganking , you can use your W first to make sure the 3rd part of your q knocks the enemy target back , or flash-Q past them so the Q knocks them back





W: Ki Burst
Riven's sword emits a burst of runic energy that shocks nearby enemies, dealing 50/90/130/170/210 (+100% of bonus attack damage) physical damage and stunning them for 0.5 seconds.

Cooldown 11/10/9/8/7 seconds

Cost none


Explanation:

Decently strong spell , Aoe mini stun and nuke, also scales pretty nicely with cdr and flat AD. You can use this skill a lot in fights when its max rank and you have a little cdr,That's part of the reason riven doesnt need a slow all that badly , you can stun people really often which makes you stick to them well enough. You probably need a little bit of time to learn the exact range of this spell with and without ult on.



E: Valor
Riven does a quick dash in the direction of your cursor and becomes shielded, blocking up to 40/70/100/130/160 (+100% of bonus attack damage) incoming damage for 2.5 seconds.

Cooldown 11/10/9/8/7 seconds

Cost none


Explanation:
Pretty sure this is the only shield in the game that scales off AD. This allready makes it a really strong skill. It's also why Items like warmogs (and mallet to) are so gold inefficient.You gain more hp by building AD.You basicly become tankier by building attack damage and cdr,really nice.




R: Blade of the Exile
Riven's weapon surges with spiritual energy for 15 seconds, granting her 20% bonus attack damage, increased range on her damaging spells and attacks, and the ability to use Wind Slash once.

Wind Slash: Riven fires a shockwave that deals from 80/120/160 (+60% of bonus attack damage) to 240/360/480 (+180% of bonus attack damage) physical damage to all enemies hit, increasing based on how much health they are missing.

Cooldown 75/60/45 seconds

Cost none


Explanation:

The steroid gets stronger and stronger the more AD you get , and the CD becomes really low , that makes a really good scaling steroid , that also increases the range on two of your spells and your autos for the duration. And that isn't even all

Wind slash is your excecute spell , one big nuke to finnish people with when they get out of range from your other spells, it gets crazy strong once they are low health , dont bother using it until they are ~30% hp or lower.




Item Builds

Boots:


These are the boots you will probably buy the most often. These are the boots of choice if the enemy team has multiple forms of hard cc and/or a lot of magic damage.

These boots are an okay choice if the enemy team does not have a lot of hard cc but has a lot of auto-attack reliant champions that you need defence from.
Example team comp to get ninja tabi against:



These boots are actually pretty underrated. CDR is a really good stat on riven but there isnt a lot of options to build it. They will increase your clear time , raw damage, and utility. It gives you a little extra hp to cause it reduces the CD on your shield. You can still sell these boots for merc treads/tabis if you think you are getting focused really hard. This item works really well with

Enchantments
I honestly feel these aren't really strong for riven , none of them really benifit riven Specifically. That being said if you losing and constantly defending is a pretty good buy. If you have all the items you need and have the extra gold to buy an Enhancement , get If you are having trouble sticking to somebody or when you are having trouble getting to somebody

Early game:

Starting items

In the new s3 jungle this is definately the best way to start. It will keep you sustained and make you clear a lot faster. The only problem with machete is it doesn't build into anything usefull for riven but it's a sacrifice you kinda have to make.

Next


This item is really strong for riven. It stacks really well with flat armor pen marks.I get this almost every game now since it now has something awesome to build in to,. Only time i don't build this is when im really behind


You really need this to sustain yourself. You wont be getting any other sort of sustain items early so this is really important


Always try to keep buying these

Core


Finally , and ad caster item, yay!^^. This item is super strong , even after seeing some nerfs, it gives the perfect stats for any ad caster and riven is no exception. It also builds out of brutalizer , making it even more awesome!


This item is 100% part of rivens core. Rivens scales the best with flat ad so this is not replaceable. Build this first after your early game if you are not behind and you can afford the BF sword when you go back.


This is the best defensive item for Assasins. It fits Riven's playstyle perfectly. This doesnt let the enemy team focus you down easily when you go to burst your carries. This item is a must have after 2 offensive items.

Other items


I get this item a little bit less since black cleaver came out , you could still go -- but youd be lacking in sustain which i don't really like. This is still a decent item though, definately get it vs double ap.


This item got nerfed hard with the s3 patch. It was a pretty nessecary nerf tho IMO. I don't buy this very often anymore since it now only lasts 5 minutes and still has the full 400 gold investment. It is however still a pretty decent buy when you are really fed so you can snowball the game.



Get this item as soon as the enemy team gets a lot of armor, riven gets countered by a lot of armor so you can't do without this


Really good item after your core if you are getting killed by their auto attackers , it also helps you kill the enemy AD carry.


This items is allright to upgrade your hexdrinker to later on , but it doesn't take priority over last whysper unless the enemy team has no armor (which is very rare). This is why if you build it you generally find yourself building it as your 5th or 6th item.



This item is situational but can be really really good , if you are getting cced so much by that or or on the enemy team that you cant get to the carries , you can't do your job. Get this to get rid of those ults and get to the enemy back line.


Now i haven't used this item a lot yet, but it could be a decent replacement for maw if the enemy team has a lot of cc and you needed a QSS. I dont really like how expensive it is for the stats it gives though so i would only buy it if you are allready going for QSS anyway and want something you can build it into late game.


I sometimes find myself building this together with hexdrinker if i fall far behind. When you are super behind you need to build small , gold efficient items like phage and hexdrinker. You will be a bit tanky and have some okay utility and damage.


This is a very situational item. The problem with mallet is it isn't very gold-efficient and it doesnt give the stats you need all that much. This is a decent buy though when you have a really strong ad carry that you need to peel for, and you allready had a from early game. Is usually a better choice than this though.

This is another option you have when you're behind. If you lost in your jungle really hard its usually a bit better to build tankyish with utility and be usefull in that way. Let your team do the carrying in this case.


I feel like this item is a bit worse for damage than BT, since you can't use the onhit effect all that well. The slow on it is really nice to have though. You trade some damage for some utility. It also works a bit better than BT vs tanky comps. Basicly this item is situationally good .

What you shouldn't get


This item is only worth considering cause it is so freaking strong right now , however , building straight hp on riven really makes no sense because you have a shield that scales with AD. My preferance still goes to GA even though it got nerfed


This item got nerfed way to much , it allready wasnt really all that good for riven though.
RIP ATMAS


This item isn't good for riven , don't get this. You clear REALLY fast with your spells so there is no reason to get wriggles , its like getting wriggles on

Jungle match-ups

Alistar

5/10
This guy probably got a lot weaker in s3, although i havent played against him in s3 yet. You can harass him in the jungle and its hard for him to recover. His gank pressure is still strong though so pay attention an ward. Regardless, he shouldn't be a problem if he doesn't get ganks off.

Amumu

3/10 early , 8/10 team fights
This guy becomes a pain in the butt if you let him get ahead , the problem against this guy is he counters you in teamfights cause you have to wait for his ult to be used or you get cced forever which can kill you really fast. You get countered by hard cc and he is the god of hard cc in teamfights. GET MERC TREADS vs the little mummie or you wont get to move in team fights. He is super weak early tho so dominate him there.

Cho'Gath

4/10
Cho'gath has super crazy sustain (despite it being nerfed) so don't bother trying to harass him. His ganks are decent but are skillshot reliant , which is the main reason riven is good against cho. Hitting a cho Q on riven is very hard so he cant cc you other than a silence. You can also outgank him pretty hard.

Dr.Mundo

Be carefull of this guy because he can become stupidly tanky and just soak everything. He also impossible to invade because he farms really well and you're screwed if he catches you. Just try to shut him down by outganking him hard early , you gank a lot better than he does.

Jarvan

J4 is one of those junglers that is atleast decent at everything. His ganks are lethal, especially after lvl 6. His ulti can also set up teams for amazing teamfights. It luckily doesnt shut you down in teamfights,as of now riven can still Q through j4 ulti. The important thing is to keep an eye on the map so you can countergank him.

Lee Sin

7/10
Lee sin is a really really strong jungler. He is even better at 1v1ing than you are and clears and ganks well to,also he has really high dragon pressure if he builds wriggles.Make sure you keep your jungle cleared cause he will take your buffs in no time and get out easy. Make sure you keep track of this guy to countergank him cause he can snowball his lanes out of controll really fast. In teamfights , try to flash past him cause if he catches you in his E he will peel you off his carries with his kick and his phage/mallet.

Malphite

6/10
This guy is 6/10 just cause he is unkillable for you and has really strong teamfights presence. There is nothing you can really do about him getting farmed ,he is just to tanky. You can outgank him really hard and snowball though , especially pre-6.

Maokai

6/10
This guy is hard cause he can gank and farm well early and peel wel in teamfights, just like lee. Thing is he isnt a 1v1 boss like you or lee so you can abuse him in his jungle and also countergank him really well. Make sure to get ahead of him though cause this guy can be usefull even without items.

Nocturne

I feel like this champion got even stronger with s3. The increase in gold really helped him and being able to gank out of ward vision is insanely strong cause of the oracles nerf. This and the fact that he clears decently fast and sustained makes for a champion that is very hard to counterplay. Nocturne (like you) doesnt do a lot when behind though cause he isn't naturally tanky and needs items for damage. If you get a kill on him early you can shut him down and force him to jungle for a while.

Nunu

Nunu is annoying for basicly everybody , riven is no exception. This guy is a pain in the butt to jungle against. Do NOT let him shut you down , keep your camps cleared so he doesnt counterjungle the crap out of them and make sure to do your buffs as soon as they come up. A lot of nunus run gp10 runes and masteries so he gets ahead of you really easily. Luckily you gank a lot better than him so get your lanes snowballing! In teamfights, try to W his ult as you move past him to get to his carries. I feel like this guy is slightly weaker in s3 than he was in s2 so he's now 6/10

Olaf

6/10
Olaf was allready a pretty strong jungler IMO and he works even better in the season 3 jungle. This guy can put out some beast damage , is really tanky , and doesn't give a crap about cc. You can't invade him cause he will hit really hard and can permaslow you while his reinforcements come in. The thing with olaf is , if he falls behind he cant do anything cause he has to run in to your team to do his job. His ganks are also not that strong so you can outgank him

Shaco

3/10 with four other teammates , 7/10 in soloq
Shaco can tear your teammates apart when you are playing soloq. He is also pretty good against riven cause he is really evasive and can be hart to get a hold of. His ganks are also really strong cause of his stealth. The easiest place to kill shaco is when he goes for his 2nd buff , you need to know where he started though, So get a ward on one of his buffs or get the info from your mid laner. Shaco is really vulnerable before he gets his Q. If you can kill him on his red or blue you will shut him down really hard cause he is really gank-reliant. He is a lot easier in team games though cause shaco is really easy to countergank. When shaco ganks he tentds to instanly pop all his spells on 1 person , which makes him really easy to kill after if you get there before your teammates die.

Shyvanna

5/10
This girl is actually pretty doable for you. You clear to fast for her to counterjungle and you are way to strong 1v1. She also ganks a lot less good than you. Overall i think shyvanna is one of the best junglers but you still do good against her for these reasons. Shyvanna is also a beast carrier though so dont let her get the upper hand in map control and get one to if you need to.

Skarner

8/10
Ugh. This champion is really strong at everything. He gets around the map fast, he is tanky , he has permaslow , a supress that drags you around and a lot of damage. Luckily you have enough jumps to get out of his permaslow but that doesn't make him any less scary. You have to outgank him pre-6. Be very carefull of his ulti, is nice to have cause his ulti will shut you down completely in teamfights

Udyr

5/10
This guy isn't all that bad cause he has only one stun to cc you with. You also clear roughly as fast as him but you're resourceless. The only problem with udyr is he becomes really really tanky and can peel pretty well, regardless you should still be able to get to the enemy carries if one of your teammates can initate.

Xin zhao

5/10
Xin is a very powerfull ganker with a lot of teamfight presence. He does however , have a few major flaws. One of them is his clear is pretty slow , especially before he gets wriggles. He is also realy easy to countergank. just like shaco, once he goes in for a gank he has to dedicate and doesnt have anything to get out. Make sure you ward a lot so you can predict his ganks and countergank them.

Early Game

Early game is the part of the game that will set the tone for the rest of your game. Riven isn't really good when built as a tanky so she can only really go for damage. This is why you are so reliant on your early game. Building damage is reliant on having a big amount of gold , more than your jungle farm can supply. This is why riven jungle falls behind if she doesnt get a few kills. Pick your jungle path and start ganking at level 3 if not earlier. You have a lot of damage and some decent cc to gank with. If the enemy team is warding so much you cant gank get an . Also keep communicating with your lanes so you know when the enemy summoners and ultis are down.

Jungle routes

Rivens is a pretty versatile jungler as far as her routes. Im gonna break down the 4 places you start off and what they're good at.

Blue side Routes:

Starting red

With this route , make sure your bottom lane doesnt go for golems and helps you get a smiteless red off. The best way to use this route is to do a smiteless red , then go for blue straight away and lvl 3 ganking top. You will gank when your lane mate is about lvl 2-3 , and you will have all your abilities. This gank is very deadly and has been very sucesfull for me. This is my personal favorite route on blue side. If you still have enough hp after ganking top you can do wraiths-wolves-golems and then go back. Make sure you use the smite on the golems cause they are a pain to have to clear.

Starting blue
This route is all right in general but i don't use it all that much on riven. If your playing soloq top laners usually dont give you a smiteless leash so you will probably have to use smite if you are not playing with a team. This is gonna delay your red a lot cause in this case you will have to do wolves-blue-wraiths-wolves-red. Ganking bottom can be pretty rough before lvl 6 or before you get an oracle cause by the time you finish red it'll be warded to hell. After Red try ganking mid or top instead. You can gank bottom earlier from the lane if you have an or a though. This route is also pretty good if you plan on invading after you do blue.

Purple side routes

Starting blue
This is where i usually start on purple side. The lvl 3 gank top is just as deadly and you're gonna have your red buff for a long time since you did it second. You can gank mid right after ganking top to and then do wraiths-wolves. Same thing with the other blue buff start , this is a good route if you are going for the enemy red after because the other jungler clears wraiths slow or your think he is going to gank top.

Starting Red
The level 2 gank after doing this is DEADLY. If your top has a decent lvl 1 you can get fb or atleast a flash very easly with the slows , stuns and sustained damage. You can gank mid to but mages tend to need 1 or 2 levels first so it is good to gank top and then mid with this route. If you think you can gank bottom sucessfully you will need a smiteless red from your top laner. Go blue after this and gank bottom right away , maybe you can get there before they ward.

Ganking

Top lane
Top lane is super super snowbally so you want to gank it a lot early early on. The problem with ganking top after roughly 10 minutes is dragon will be very doable so if you show up top they can force it right away if they are paying attention. Try to get your top snowballed within the first 10 minutes so they can then keep doing well on their own.

Ganking top
Top is a very nice lane to gank cause its very long and hard to get away from. This makes slows and stuns really powerfull. Riven is really good at ganking top cause she has this combined with a lot of dashes. Most top laners tend to have gap closers and cc/ a lot of damage. Dont be afraid to flash after people if you are very close to killing them. Make sure you dedicate but dont take to many risks ,cause you can destroy top by giving the enemy a kill.

Mid lane
Mid is hard to gank before lvl 3 or so cause most mages need a few levels before they can contribute to ganks. After that you can get a lot of sucessful ganks mid if you have a mid with a cc or a lot of instant burst, FE ,,.

Ganking mid
The problem with ganking mid is that the lane is super short ,so you need something to lock them down. Luckily you have both a stun and a knockback. A lot of mid laners have movement speed quints so they can run back to their tower before you even get in stun range , so you will need to communicate with your mid laner a little and either let them go first or let them bait a bit. If you are a bit more experienced and can tell when a gank will be sucessfull you can Lead with flash to get close to the enemy mid laner and then - them. This works especially well if you have a mid laner with a lot of burst , you can kill the enemy mid laner before they even get to flash.

Jungle
A lot of junglers (especially the ones that are being used right now) are pretty suceptible to invades and aren't all that good at 1v1s , as most of the junglers that are being played right now are support tanks. While you aren't as good at invading as lee sin, Your full combo can melt even tanks if you catch them on while they are a little bit low

Some junglers that are easy to invade:,,,,

Ganking jungle (invading)
The best place to invade enemy junglers is on their buffs , cause they will be the furthest away from their team (especially red buff) A lot of the popular junglers right now take a while doing red buff, so you can get a fb by going for them when they drop to ~40% hp. Even harassing people out of jungle when your own camps are down can put you really ahead and waste a lot of their time.

Bot lane
Bottom lane can be pretty hard to gank early cause it will be warded to hell and your laners can't contribute all that much yet. Theres a lot of diffrent bottom lane comps, all of them have diffrent strength and weaknesses. One weakness being that some bottom lanes don't really work that well with ganks , FE it's a lot harded to gank for a lane than it is for a lane.

Ganking bot
The best way to gank bot is very often the lane gank , it is warded a lot less than the river is and can get you really close to the enemy laners. Don't be afraid to let your bottom lane go in first so the enemy might blow some of their cd's before they even see you. If your not getting many ganks of make sure you get an Because a good support wil always have everything warded like crazy. If you got a kill bottom past roughly 10 minutes, make sure to rush drake right after if you all still have over half hp. If you are around bottom and the enemy jungler is top it is a good time to go for drake to.

Mid Game

Mid game is all about dragon fights and skirmishes. Make sure that you dont spend the entire time fighting though cause you need to keep getting farmed to be usefull. Keep everything warded and try to get as many towers and drakes as possible.Carries generally dont have a lot of armor yet at this point so You can 100 to 0 them with your entire combo if you are a little bit fed. Start grouping a lot more if u want to end the laning phase , if u were winning in the laning phase though , you can try to play like the early game make the laning phase last as long as possible. Make sure you don't waste your smite while drake is up. Drakes are super important at this stage of the game, it is where most of the fights will happen. Keep drake timed and make sure you're ready to fight for it when it spawns.

Respawn timers
Baron: 7 minutes after death
Drake: 6 minutes after death
Buffs: 5 minutes after death
Jungle camps: 1 min after clearing (wraiths 50 seconds)

Late Game

This is where you should have your core items and a last whisper finished. You can NOT assasinate people at this point without last whisper cause they will almost 100% have a lot of armor. This is where you should be moving as a team of 5. Riven's abilities scale really well so you should be pretty strong at this point.

Baron
Everything centers around baron at this point , so you will always need to have your smite up. Play with your team, you can't afford to get caught at this point, it will snowball into so much for the enemy team. Sending someone bot at this stage of the game is really risky cause if it is close they will be able to force a baron.

Map control
At this point having map control is everything. Make sure either you or your support have an oracles. Vision is everything at this point. Having a ward in the enemy jungle can get you a catch that will get you baron. Dont be afraid to blow everything if you think you can catch someone , Respawn timers at this point are huge so it will be worth using your cooldowns , if you catch someone sucessfully he should be dead for like 50 seconds so you can atleast get a Baron or inhi


Team Fights

How to play team fights when even or ahead
Riven isn't tanky enough to initiate fights , so optimally you should have someone tanky on your team that initiates well (think ,). Your job in team fights is to go straight for the enemy back line and start hammering on their carries. Your GA and flash are essential to you right now cause you need to right through the enemy team to reach the carries (unless they are out of position). Pick one target (generally the AD carry) and do your full combo. This should look something like ---Auto-Auto--Auto-- at this point.

After you got your target, move straight back to your own carries and pop everything you have left to keep them alive.

How to play team fights when behind

When behind ,you wont be strong enough to kill enemy carries on your own , so you have to try and keep yours alive. While riven isn't the best peeler. She can still do an okay job with her stuns and a . Stick on top of your ad carry and hit whoever tries to go for him.

This guide is good but you forgotten about the 1.28 q at the last min so can proc the passive for 3 times when the wolves are spawned or wraith.

Just FYI, your smite chart is out of date with S3. It now does 1000 damage at max level.

I'm not very sure about your mastery choices. The first few masteries in the defense tree are useful, but I feel like you have a lot of useless filler masteries such as relentless (slows don't really affect your ability to gap close), legendary armor (scales of bonus armor and mr and because you build damage for the most part this is useless), reinforced armor (won't do anything for you for non crits, skills), and defender (fairly useless late game). I don't feel Tenacious and Honor Guard are worth these other masteries. I run 21/9 Machete 5 pots on Riven and I normally get through a level 4 clear with 60% health remaining. Because your main job is to take out the Enemy as fast as possible rather than You surviving as long as possible, I feel the offense tree just offers better stats and helps you perform your role more efficiently.



You need to show how to use your skills effectively in the jungle, (timing q's, w's, e's, passive procs). It is VERY VERY important, especially for your first clear. It will make a huge difference in health remaining and help speed up their clear times, so you absolutely need to add that. (I still have to remake my jungle route videos for my guide, which I should probably get around to asap but I thought I'd let you know to do this as well to give you a heads up.)



Also, when ganking as Riven please mention that when you use her Q to not put it on top of the target but behind them so you can actually get behind them instead of doing that awkward jumping but never get behind them shenanigans. That way you can actually knock them backwards rather than forwards.



Lastly, using a skill mid E will cancel the remainder of the dash.



I just skimmed through your guide but those are the major things I saw that needed to be added. Sorry for this very long wall of text. Credit me if you feel the need to. Good idea to put jungle match ups. I may do that myself :P

How can you not even mention black cleaver? It's by far the best option she can get right now. It gives health, damage, and armor pen on ALL of her attacks now. It's by far her best first item you can acquire.
