Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hey guys, My names Ozzyboy96 and this is my first guide I've made so I welcome comments and whats worked for you! As the title shows, this is my Amumu jungle guide for season 3! Now before someone checks my ELO and starts shouting N00B, I'm not claiming to say I'm anywhere near pro jungler status, just that I think I recognise which build maximises Amumu's power in the jungle.
Amumu is my favourite champion, he has good AoE damage, his ganks are decent if you can get off the first bandage toss, his W makes him a pain lategame for champs that try to stack health, and his ult can EASILY change the flow of a teamfight if you can position yourself properly.

Masteries

Im still getting used to the masteries and the best way to build them, but so far I've settled for a 0/21/9 mastery page, going for early armor, some health regen which helps keep you healthy for a level 4 gank. In utility I go for the movement speed and CDR to stick to enemies to deal damage with my W, and the CDR lets you have your ultimate just a couple of second quicker which can make or break a fight.

Runes

These runes are standard for most AP junglers, and haven't changed much at all for season 3 in my opinion.
I choose magic pen marks because late game if you manage to get up close and personal with their team, your AoE damage will melt their carries.
Armor Seals are a MUST for the new jungle I feel, as the creeps hit harder and stay alive for longer.
Magic resist per level I find are best for me, because my item build doesn't stack a huge amount of magic resist, so they can be a real life saver later on in the game.
Fianlly the movement speed Quints help me get around my jungle quicker, and help me stick to enemy champs during those early ganks.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:
Smite is a must for junglers, no exception. Obviously there are SOME junglers that don't need smite to go through the jungle, but for buff, dragon and baron secures there are very few abilities in the game that can do better.
I take flash 9/10 times because it allows me to flash right into the enemy team for a surprise ultimate, get in range so I bandage toss, or just escaping :3 .
You could take ghost instead of flash, but I find that the surprise aspect of flashing into an enemy and ulting cannot be achieved anywhere near as well with ghost.

Skills

Passive: Cursed Touch

Explanation:
It's a pretty helpful passive if you remember to utilize it fully, make sure to always melee enemies when possible to burn through some of the MR they have.




Q: Bandage Toss

Explanation:
SUPRISE MOTH****ER!!
This skill is what I feel makes Amumu a decent jungler. Obviously his AoE skillset gives him a decent clear but without this skill, his ganking potential would be so bad. The long range of it can really catch enemies off guard, and I can't remember the amount of times I've been able to bandage to a creep in the jungle to escape a nasty gank.
I take this at level 4 usually unless an enemy is just asking to be ganked at level 3. I max it last as its main use is as a gap closer and it offers no benefits within the jungle.




W: Despair

Explanation:
As an ability which does AoE percent damage, it can WRECK a lot of enemies that stack health. Also if you have a Rylai's and have this active, the enemies aren't going anywhere fast. I take this at level 1 rather than tantrum because from my tests, it gives a faster start.




E: Tantrum

Explanation:
With its cooldown on being hit effect, this ability is up a lot of the time while you're in the jungle. I max this early on because when you gank, the enemy isn't going to stick around long enough for Despair to do as much damage.




R: Curse of the Sad Mummy

Explanation:
This ability is just Amumu. This ability is what gives him a HUGE presence in lanes as soon as he hits level 6. If your laner doesn't completly derp, you can walk into lane, use this, and walk away with an easy kill in hand.
Late game this skill just gets even better! Enemy all in baron or dragon pit? everyone having a mexican stand off? Enemy team thinking it's a good idea to walk into that bush? If you answered yes to any of these questions press 'R'!
Obviously this ability is a little bit more than that but you can see the point, the only thing you have to make sure you do is focus the damn carries. I've been in so many games where someone else has instalocked Amumu then wastes there ultimate on a support and tank while the enemy carries just beat them to a pulp so don't be that guy!




Item Builds

As I see it, Hunter's machete isnt the best starting item, but its the one that makes SENSE. I've tried starting with boots but I find I need to take armor quints if I want to be healthy enough for a gank as soon as I hit level 4.
The philos stone is a good choice for a couple of reasons, it means you never go low in jungle, and more importantly it gives you mana regen. Because I'm a nice guy I usually let my mid take the second blue buff unless their feeding or manaless, but when I do, I find myself getting low mana at points which means I cant gank as well.

The rest of my build goes for early armor or MR which I end up building into some AP and cooldown reduction. Rylai's is a nice item as it gives good health, AP, and it's passive in combination with despair helps out a LOT. My final slots are reserved for whatever gets thrown at me i.e. If most of the enemy damage is AD, I might build a thornmail or if they dont have much damage I may find myself building as an AP offtank which is always fun.
Boots always depend on the situation, if they have CC which can really screw you up, get mercury's treads. If not, I usually go for extra speed or occasionally magic pen boots.

Jungling

As for my route I almost always find myself going:
Wolves, Blue, Wraiths, Wolves, Red, Wraiths.
This puts me at level 4 pretty quick with almost full health if I started machete, and means I can gank easily.
Some people I've seen have gone double golems rather than going back for wolves again, but I find they hit pretty hard and put me in a slightly worse position for ganking.

Final Comments

As I havn't had a huge amount of time to make this guide since the release of the S3 jungle, I may have made mistakes or errors so please feel free to point any major ones out to me in the comments and I'll get back to you!
