Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hello there. I have 2 IGN's, My main now wich is Master Yll and Irelia sama and I'm currently sitting at gold elo. My highest Peek elo on season 2 was 1700. I main Irelia for the top lane and Lux for the middle lane. I play a good Irelia, I never find myself losing lane and even though people say Irelia got Nerfed I think she is still as strong as she was.

Warmogs is better now. 500 less gold and still provides good regen.

Black cleaver is broken

Randuins is still amazing

Frozen heart is still amazing

Trinity Force costs 170 more Gold now (Phage costs 170 more gold now)

Irelia is still super strong, some new items work on her very well.

Here are my overall stats and my irelia stats on my main and my 2nd account. Not too bad, some losses due to disconnects and trolls but I still keep them above 60%.

So why should I use Best Butt NA?

Pros

- Hard to crowd control
- Inbuilt sustain
- Can go full tank and dish out tons of damage with just Triforce and True damage
- Snowballs extremely hard
- Unstoppable if fed
- Great juking with Q
- Usable at any competitive level
- Great character design
- Awesome Skins
- GREAT farmer under turret
- Clears waves extremely fast with Q and ultimate spam

Cons

- Needs a big amount of farm or kills to do her job
- Weak and abusable early game
- Her ultimate isn't that amazing beside for clearing creep waves

Mastery set up explanation

9 into the offensive tree.

Attack Speed

Improved ignite

Armor penetration

Extra attack damage.

21 into the defensive tree.

More armor

Way more health

More Magic resistance

Less damage from auto attacks

Less damage from champions.

Rune setup explanation

Great mark of damage : With this you can trade and last hit under tower. No armor pen you deal true DMG.

Greater seal of armor : Without this you'd get wrecked pretty hard. Nullifys a lot of damage from nasty early gamers like Pantheon/Riven/Renekton.

Great glyph of scaling magic resistance : You don't face AP top laners besides Rumble nowadays. I don't find myself playing against Teemos or Vlads at all anymore. This will scale better into late game instead of the flat MR.

Quintessences : Flat AD to win trades and last hit under tower. You can also consider movement quintessences.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

- I'm so used to flash using ghost is out of the question. Most of my kills in lane are me flashing in and hitting that last auto attack to pick up the kill.

- You want to pick up kills in lane and this helps you. Once you use it before unleashing most of your burst the mastery summoners wrath will make you deal extra damage with all your skills wich could determine wether you rack up a kill or that fucking shitty teemo got away with 4 health.

Skill breakdown

Passive: Ionian Fervor

Explanation:

Great passive. Irelia scales tremendously well into late game also because of this, having reduced crowd control timers is great, makes your job of shitting on carries easier.

Q: Bladesurge

Explanation:

Dash queen! Love farming up with this and resetting the cooldown over and over. You can make sick plays with this, flash and Q to a creep to safety or Q a creep to get the reset and then Q to a champion to engage on him. You max this last because everything else is more important than this, this just scales in damage and cooldown.

W: Hiten Style

Explanation:

The reason why Irelia is a monster. The ability to deal damage no matter how many tanky items you have and an amazing inbuilt sustain passive. This is your everything, Max this as soon as possible after you get the first point at level 3, since it doesn't provide any escape like your stun or your Q does and they will help you escape early ganks.

E: Equilibrium Strike

Explanation:

Max this after your true damage is maxed. You start with this to either invade or protect, it also allows you to stun your opponent at level 1 and hit 2 auto attacks on them and then back off, you've succesfully chunked more damage than they did.

R: Transcendent Blades

Explanation:

Max this whenever it pops up, mostly a farm tool but I've survived countless times life stealing through creep waves or lots of champions lined up cause of it. Also helps you pick up kills and makes your burst at level 6 deceptively high.

Early Game

Irelia isn't particularly a strong early champion, she's actually rather abusable early on, the only thing notable is your sustain with a dorans blade, your hiten style and cryst flask.

Irelia is one of the best characters late game thus you should be focused in farming rather than landing early kills on your opponent. Of course though don't take this too seriously and just farm and be scared to trade. Do not let your lane opponent harass you without trading some damage back. That's how Irelia lands a lot of kills in lane. You are able to go in, trade with your opponent and then sustain faster then they did, next time you trade you will be at an HP advantage and you can rack up a kill.

If you want to snowball I'd build a

+

Massive damage will come out from this. I would think twice trading with champions like Jax or Darius though, seriously you are honestly better off farming against those 2.

Also note that the Phage can also help you snowball but it's more for chasing down targets that have good escape methods, the Brutalizer would be more fit for a lane like Chogath or Shen, Brutalizer will give you overall more damage for a cheaper prize.

TL;DR - FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM. IRELIA NEEDS FARM TO BE USEFUL MID AND LATE GAME, A FARMED IRELIA IS A SCARY IRELIA.

How should your early game build look like ;

+ + + or

Mid Game

Ok so you're much stronger now. Your true damage is maxed, you either have a Trinity Force or a Black cleaver for damage and you will be melting carries at this point. If I win my lane as irelia I tend to roam around 18/25 minutes into the game, secure my team Dragons or Objectives. Putting a lot of pressure on the middle lane is also your job. Being able to get a middle turrets gives your team total map control to place wards and know the enemy location, any mistake from the enemy team will cost them their 2nd tier turret and maybe even an inhibitor at this point.

You should have your merc threads and Triforce and just dive turrets if you have the chance, 4 man dive bottom lane and get some kills and grab yourself the turret. If there is no chance for you to roam and score kills then go to your lane and finish off your turret, everytime the lane pushes back you can just go and clear it fast with your ultimate.

How should your mid game build look like ;

Late Game

This is where Irelia truly shines, she's extremely hard to crowd control and she's incredibly tanky with amazing damage output. I can't teach you how to position in teamfights, you should already know wich targets you should be trying to zone and kill first. Sometimes you may not land a kill on that Sneaky Ezreal but you have completely zoned him out of the fight, he's not doing nearly as much damage as your ADC is doing so therefore you should be able to win the teamfight.

Also remember you can keep that Mad Renekton or Angry Mundo off your ADC as well, if your ADC is struggling to output damage then you should help him out and try to peel him, sometimes it's better to protect your ADC than to kill their own carries. If your carry is doing damage just fine and he's having proper positioning and peel then feel free to dive on that Squishy Ahri or Vayne and burst them down.

Also Exhaust can be a good counter for a lot of youur damage, don't go full retard and dive in 1 vs 5 when your team can't follow up.

Remember this is late game, their ADC will hurt you no matter what and they will kill you fast if they focus you, know how to engage and when to engage.

Landing your stun is crucial, your stun lasts for 2 seconds, 2 seconds of you chunking true damage to your opponent is huge so make sure you can use your stun properly.

Jungling

Irelia is NOT a jungler. She is a top laner and there is nothing else you can play with her.

Irelia's clear time in the jungle sucks

More junglers can stay in the jungle more than she does

She lacks crowd control to set up ganks and get kills

Won't be farmed enough for the late game where she needs to have core items do be a threat.

Can easily get destroyed in the jungle by characters such as Mundo/Udyr/Lee Sin

Do not even try jungle Irelia, you'll be disgusted with the results.

Match ups.

- I hate this lane. Doesn't matter how many times I kill him in lane he still outscales me and he will win absolutely every single trade after he gets some big items. He counter your true damage with his counter strike and if he hits the phage proc on you he'll just chase you down and keep chunking damage on you, all you can do is run.

Difficulty : Get Smashed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- He simply outtrades you at any stage in the game. His ultimate does way more damage than yours, he has a passive that does damage and yours doesn't, his Q does more damage than yours.

You cannot outtrade a Darius but that doesn't mean you can't outplay him and outtrade him in lane if he gets cocky enough, engage on him if he wastes his Q to farm. A good Darius will learn how to punish you early game, try to sustain and keep up in farm, this is slightly easier than the Jax lane, at least you can still deal true damage to him whereas Jax just ignores it.

Difficulty : Get Smashed

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

He simply has more sustain than you, more mobility than you and more damage than you, and now with the new black cleaver you won't win trades against him by just stacking armor. You will outscale him late game all you need to do is keep up in farm and don't try to trade unless he's got some cooldowns.

Difficulty : Hard

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Singed is hard, you do not have the damage to deny him early game, chasing him down is out of the question once he's level 6. Sustain through his poison and farm. Singed with Lyandris, A RoA and Revolver is unkillable for you. I've played against good singeds, messed up quite a bit and died because of it. Do not die to him or the lane is over. Ask for jungler help early game, all your jungler should be doing is giving you first blood top to shut him down.

Difficulty : Hard

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

His auto attacks hurt and trust me a good Teemo will spend all the time auto attacking you in lane. You can trade with him if you have a good amount of health. Teemo with phage and level 6 is really hard to kill cause he'll kite you properly and outdamage you. Farm and sustain and you will completely have more presence than him in teamfights

Difficulty : Hard ( even if you die to him once or twice you will still outscale him in teamfights, don't feed the mother fucker. Miss CS if necessary as long as you don't die to him )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

This depends a lot on the way the player plays this lane. Olaf naturally outtrades Irelia, his true damage early game deals more damage than yours and both of your Q's pretty much deal about the same amount of damage. He has inbuilt sustain just like you do and he's good against crowd control just like you are. This lane can go even, it all depends on how well you trade in lane but most of the time he will win trades, at least if he is a good Olaf.

Difficulty : Hard

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- A good nidalee is hard to kill and she's annoying with all her auto attack damage. Note that AP nidalee can't do anything against you, if you notice she's AP then trade with her anytime you can, you will murder her. If she is bruiser nidalee she'll kite, harass you and eventually get your turret before you get hers. If you get a couple of phage procs you can land a kill on her. Get tabi as soon as you can to mock her auto attack damage.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- He still does great damage and becomes unkillable at level 6 in lane unless he straight up derps. He has a lot of sustain but you win trades against him. Pretty a farm lane you can win pre 6, then he becomes annoying as hell with the ultimate.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Don't get aggressive on her until your true damage has 4 levels. She naturally wins trades against you early game but you'll end up destroying her after you get some armor and damage.

Difficulty : Hard early/ Easy later on

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- You obviously have way more damage and sustain than he does, but he's extremely hard to kill. All you can is outfarm him and do better than him in teamfights.

Difficulty : Farm lane

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Xin such a strong top laner now, he has sustain and great damage and a great ultimate. Get tabi and a dorans blade and start trading with him.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Haven't played a vlad in forever. You obviously can abuse him pretty hard at level 3 but be careful not to take too much creep damage, trade properly and you'll shit on him, recommend getting a wits end to just faceroll him in lane.

Difficulty : Medium ( if the vlad is competent / Easy ( if the vlad isn't great )

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Still does massive damage and still has the best win rate in the game. You can trade with him once he uses his flamethrower to farm, You can get a hexdrinker to completely win trades, don't take too much ultimate damage and don't get hit by his harpoons, if you do you'll eat all his Flamethrower damage.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- His burst with the black cleaver hurts. It's an easy lane just get early ninja tabi and farm, he's shit late game. Remember his stupid passive and his shield will make him immune to most of your true damage early game, don't trade with him at early stages in the game.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- Sustain through her overpowered harass, she's broken but you can trade against her. get sustain and pots and outscale her, you're better than she is in teamfights, way better.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- A good jayce can be tough, he's annoying to kill, everytime you'll try to trade with him he will just knock back the crap out of you and avoid most of your true damage. Whenever you can land a kill on him relies on you getting a phage proc or him wasting his spells to farm.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- You win trades against him, early game he'll either just try to farm up or he'll spam Q's on you like a mad man, wich if he does he'll run out of mana extremely fast, you'll sustain through the Q damage and just jump him when he's low on mana. He is not easy to kill and as far as teamfighting he will outshine you with the ultimate, not to mention his skillset makes your attack speed derp and land 1 auto per minute. Just farm, trade with him properly and teamfight properly so you can be on par with him presence wise.

Difficulty : Medium

-------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

- This lane is one of the easiest lanes ever. I always murder chogath, you completely outdamage him and you can dodge his rupture easily. Play really aggressive as long as you have wards with you, early dorans blade and wits end and you will completely murder him. Again be careful, if you get cc'd and he has more creeps on his side he can win trades, do not take too much creep damage.

Difficulty : Easy
