Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hello Summoners,
If you are a person who loves the fights and roaming, then evelynn is for you. If you just want to farm during the laning phase then you might like to look for a different guide/champion.

Evelynn is an assassin who is super squishy and deals loads of damage. Evelynn is amazing at roaming because of the season 3 changes. Evelynn's skillset is very very noob friendly but you must have alot of map awareness. If you do not have map awareness then don't play evelynn because rather than making plays for your team you will probobly end up feeding. Evelynn is misconcieved by most people and should not be underestimated. Without any further introduction lets get into the gameplay.

Masteries

Why do I choose these masteries is preatty simple. Evelynn is squishy and if you lose very early one you may have a hard time back into the game. Since you are melee, the defense tree protects you from most of the harash that could be done to you. From the offense tree you can grab the most important part, the magic pen. Of coarse the 21 points in offense means more damage but you probobly won't be able to do any damage when your dead or under leveled. 4 points in the utility tree is all you need for some extra mana and the flash cooldown. The hp, flat armor, flat mr, and the reduced damage from champions helps lane since you might take a few autos of spells as a melee champion. The 2 points for reduced minion damage helps if you get a gank or want to counter jungle as minion aggro really hurts early on if you are facing a large wave. Test out and try what works best for you.

Runes

These are typical ap runes. Not much to say here. You can try some variablity but these are preatty good. You need armor yellow because you are a melee champion, mr blues because in mid lane you mainly face ap casters (if there is an ad middle like lee sin or wu kong I advise switching to armor blues), and flat ap pen is generally best for red with ap quints. Take some variablity based on your matchup but if you just want 1 set of runes for your ap champs and evelynn I advise these ones.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:
Standard summoners.

I usually will not use cleanse but if necissarry I will (like vs veigar). Since you are melee, even with amazing positioning you are very likely of getting hit with something because in order to deal damage you will be near the front.

Very viable but I perfer having flash for my defensive summoner and ignite for extra burst. Choose this based on your matchup.

Many middle laners run tp in order to gank. DO NOT DO THIS!!! Evelynn already has stealth to gank but if you tp, then you will probobly easily get turned on since you are squishy.

This is not a good summoner on evelynn because her w gives her a 30% ms boost (ghost is 35% with the point in the offense tree). Flash is much better for poistioning considering you already have your w.

The rest of the summoners are not very viable and so I have not discussed them. is like but more for a team as a whole, not as strong indivdually which is why I do not reccomend it.

Skills

Passive: Shadow Walk

Explanation:

Best passive ever. Always watch if you can be seen or not. WIth this passive you can literally walk though lane undetected and burst your opponents from behind. Using this passive is what truely makes you a good or bad evelynn player.



Q: Hate Spike

Explanation:

This is most of your dps. It is a low cooldown spell with aoe. Spam the hell out of it. In lane use it the harash and farm waves. In deals nice damage and is up very often. Imagine karthus's law waste but with shorter range and easier to land.



W: Dark Frenzy

Explanation:

Use to catch up for kills or get out of sticky situations. It resets for every kill so sometimes its better off to finish off a low priority target to have it reset in order to chase the high priority target. Remove slow debuffs so its very good against certain champions like nasus or skarner.



E: Ravage

Explanation:
This gives some nice burst at level 2. Use it on minions when your about to lose the cs and use when damaging tower for the attack speed buff. Mainly use for the slow and damage during ganks.




R: Agony's Embrace

Explanation:
This is what make evelynn viable in tema fights. High aoe damage that gives you a shield so you will not be bursted down in a second. It doesn;t have a terrible cooldown so use for the shield or damage. Like if you have ignite ticking off on you, land this and you will live. Preatty easy to use.

Item Builds

Starting items: sight-ward2crystalline-flaskhealth-potion2
I like to place one offensive ward and one defensive ward. The flask easily pay off for itself and with the flash you don't really need more than two health potions.
Alternative Starting items:
1.sight-wardcrystalline-flaskhealth-potion5
I personally do not use this. Maybe if you are new or something but with the flask you usually do not need 5 health potions.
2.boots-of-speedhealth-potion5
This is mostly part of the old meta. You no longer need boots to start off but it is viable if you choose this path.

Upgrade boots: boots-of-mobility or sorcerers-shoes
Choose your boots based on how you are going to play. If you want to gank alot the mobility boots are good. If you want the extra damage and know how to gank without the moblity boots, choose the sorcerers shoes.

Items that are good on evelynn:
liandrys-torment
This item is very nice, it gives flat mr pen, some health, some ap, and a passive that is amazing. DOes wonders on people who stack hp and since you are a low cd mage it's passive is preatty much permenant during the fight.

rylais-crystal-scepter
This works very well with liandry's torment because the slow means more damage from the passive. Also it gives you some more cc, and gives you a little bit of tankiness.

rabadons-deathcap
Good item on all ap champions. It gives you tons of damage. Simple.

void-staff
With the changes to how flat and percent penetration works, this item has become very good.

guardian-angel
Good defensive item. It is a good finishing item in order to let you play more aggressive knowing that you can really on your passive. Like if you can trade a kill for your ga, its worth it.

abyssal-scepter
With the changes to how flat and percent penetration works, this item has actually gotten somewhat nerfed. It is still a very good item because it makes you tankier in lane and give ap. The flat penetration is okay but since it is an aura it has lost its value because now in calculation magic penetration it has become auro, then percent pen, then flat pen.

deathfire-grasp
This is a good item if you want to burst down 1 target, like the ad carry. Gives alot of ap and is a good item overall.

zhonyas-hourglass
This item is good. It gives ap, some armor, and a nice active. If you don;t need the active I would recommend building the other items mentioned.

will-of-the-ancients
This is a viable item but I don't like it too much on evelynn. Its nice for long fight where you can heal yourself but evelynn is mainly going to go for burst fights so it depends on the game. Situational item.

warmogs-armor
Gives hp and makes you tankier. Like a replacement for ga. Its a good defnesive item.

randuins-omen
This is a good defensive item. Gives a good amount of armor, good hp, and a nice active considering you are a melee ranged champion. Very good item and very recommending if the opposing team is running an ad mid.

hextech-gunblade
This isn't a very good item on evelynn for the price but if you ever hit a 90 minute game and you feel like it go for it. Otherwise I would say not to use it.

Ideal final build for average game: sorcerers-shoesliandrys-tormentrabadons-deathcapvoid-staffrylais-crystal-scepterguardian-angel
This build is ideal because it provides most of what you want and it works together. With about 40 flat magic pen and 43 % magic pen, mr becomes a thing of the past for you. You are somewhat tanky to make up for your natural squishiness and you can deal loads of damage. This build is for the average game, change it wherever necessary.

Early Game

Easy game is where you can make a huge impact. There are alot of strategies that can be used which you can assess beased on the enemies composition. One option use to be to steal the enemies wraiths but with the buff one jungle monsters it don;t give much reward for the risk you face. I usually like to ward the enemies red or blue based on the junglers pattern and then ambush them there. Most junglers with exception of champions like warwick usually have under 300 hp while clearing out their second buff. So if you shove out your lane and ambush them there you can easily get first blood and signle/double buff(s). With evelynn you generally want to shove your lane out so that you can gank. If you are not ambushing the enemy jungler, you can go bot lane and gank level two. Unless it is pink warded you can likely lead to your bottom lane snowballing wether through forcing them back and missing xp or a kill. Map awarness is key because plays can be made, you just need see where is best. As middle lane, you are one of the most important play makers for the team.

While farming, you can spam your q to help push faster. Also, if you are running out of mana you can go stealth and let some of your mana regen.

Mid Game

Mid gamke is very similar to your early game but kow you will have items and you have to keep on warding. People forget to ward and can lose lane because of one gank. Make sure this isn't you by warding up.
Also, with levels, clearing jungle camps are easier, so if you are not ganking, going back to base, or farming lane, take the enemy or your own jungle.

Late Game

Lategame is where evelynn falls off. Your goal is to assasinate high priority targets like the ap or ad carry. Use your stealth to your advantage. Rarely do you want to head into a fight following your tank, using your stealth you can generally loop around and go for the important targets.

Team Fights

Your goal is to take out the important targets and land a devastating ult. If you land an ultimate on most of the enemy team, your shield will be amazing and you will have chunked most of the enemy team to smithereens. Do not go straight into the fight. You should use your stealth and loop around so you can go for the weak targets. Your goal is adc then apc then clean up whoever is left. Positioning is key. If you head straight into the fight, you will be the target and you will lose the fight. Your team is counting on you to deal loads of damage and take out their damage dealers.

Matchups

Most people have alot of misconcieved notions about who beats evelynn. There are three things you want to look at when you think about this matchup: do they have burst, can they clear waves fast, can you burst them down or vis versa.

Terrible Matchups:



These champions are utter destruction for you. They can easily clear waves as fast if not faster than you, they can burst you down, and if you exchange, you will come out behind. These matchups are hard to deal with. My tip is to roam and try to get your team feed so they can carry you and farm at tower. If they follow you hen you roam make sure your team does not engage because you ill not win a 2v2 or 3v3 fight against them.

Annoying Matchups:

These champions are annoying because they can burst you down with ease, but your saving grace is they they have a hard time pushing waves like you. In these lanes you generally want to shove your lane to their tower and roam all the time. The only time you should be in lane is to clear a wave and go back roaming. If you try and 1v1 without your jungler you will likely lose.

Okay/Easy Matchups:
Most other champions not listed. The remaining champions usually have skillshots which are easily dodgeable, are just farm lanes, or can easily be escaped from (like and slows with your w). In these cases you are trying to shove your lane and roam and make plays.


Harash Laners:

These champions could be easy or hard based on your personal skill level.

As you have probobly noticed you are generally either shoving the lane to their tower or shoving lane and roaming till they can shove it to your tower, in which case you can easily send back. The rule of thumb is why feed on minions when you can feed off of champions (wether from your lane or other lanes).

Final Comments

I have said most of what I have to say about evelynn, so from here on in it is all on you to craftly use evelynn to dominate the field. Good luck summoners and I hope this guide has been useful. Rate and comment, i sure wouldn't mind feedback.
