Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hello there! In this guide i will learn you how to play Pantheon to his fullest with all the IMO best runes, masteries, skill order and item build. On the League of Legends site Pantheon is categorized as a AD caster which means that he mostly uses his abilities to deal damage, but if built right he´s also tanky.

Pros +

+ Manly
+ Low mana/CD high damage poke
+ Insane mid/early game burst
+ Easy to learn
+ Easy to roam with ult
+ Counters most APs

Cons -

- Mana hungry for inexperienced players
- May fall off late game
- Hard to come back if you loose lane
- Melee
- Hard to master

Masteries

[http://imageshack.us/a/img850/590/s3panthmasteriesoffensi.jpg]

Explanation:

This is my standard mastery page.

Offense: I take 21 points in offense thanks to the extra damage you get in the early levels but it also scales well into mid game. Some would say that it´s not worth it to get 21 points in Offense just to get the Executioner. I disagree, Executioner is a really good mastery but the masteries to reach Executioner is underestimated. Let´s take Brute Force as an example, 2% extra damage can mean the difference between a dead enemy and a enemy with 30 HP. It also scales well thanks to that it´s ALWAYS 2% extra damage, not something like 2 extra AD, which means it´s actually very smart to take 21 points in Offense.

Defense VS Utility: So, some of you may wonder why i choose to take 7 points in Utility instead of 9 points in Defense as my ordinary mastery page, that´s because Pantheon needs that extra mana regen in the early levels to be able to poke and still got mana left to trade with an opponent. You also get reduced CD on Flash and Ignite when you go this route. But remember, this is just my standard page, if you need extra resistances/HP then take 9 points in Defense.

[http://imageshack.us/a/img706/1625/s3panthmasteriesnormal.jpg]

Explanation:

Offense: You take all the key points to reach Weapon Expertise for an extra 8% armor penetration and also some extra AD from Deadliness and also 3% CDR but also for just 1 point 5 extra AD/AP when Ignite is on CD.

Defense: Here is where i spend most of my points, here i take all the key points so i can reach Veteran´s Scar but i also take points in Unyielding and Block for lower champion damage.
You´re HP also scales thanks to Durability.

Utility: Here it is exactly the same as with my standard mastery page. 1 point in Summoner´s Insight for 15 sec reduced CD on flash, mana regen from Meditation and also Mastermind for reduced CD on both Flash and Ignite.

Marks

[http://imageshack.us/a/img35/4088/greatermarkofstrengthan.jpg] Greater Mark of Strength

This is in my opinion the best Marks off all for Pantheon. Why you may ask? Because they synergize sooo well with Pantheon´s kit thanks to the early game dominance from your great scalings on Q and E. They also improve your lasthitting.

[http://imageshack.us/a/img35/4088/greatermarkofstrengthan.jpg] Greater Mark of Desolation

This is your alternative to extra AD, if you are not planning on building Brutalizer then grab these for more damage against high armor enemies and more late game damage. But remember, they won´t improve your lasthitting.

Seals

[http://imageshack.us/a/img197/6190/greatersealofresilience.jpg] Greater Seal of Resilience

IMO this is a no-brainer against everyone, it gives you that extra armor needed against those pesky ADs top but i also take them if i go mid against an AP because no team is full of squishy APs (I hope).

Glyphs

[http://imageshack.us/a/img690/7742/greaterglyphofshielding.jpg] Greater Glyph of Shielding

This is my standard glyph´s because they will help you against those pesky APs late game because late game is were you most need it.

[http://imageshack.us/a/img708/6407/greaterglyphofwarding.jpg] Greater Glyph of Warding

Take these flat MR glyph´s if you are up against a AP champion you know deal alot off damage early/mid game, example .

Quintessences

[http://imageshack.us/a/img832/264/greaterquintessenceofst.jpg] Greater Quintessence of Strength

This is IMO the best Quints off all. Why you may ask? Because they synergize sooo well with Pantheon´s kit thanks to the early game dominance from your great scalings on Q and E. They also improve your lasthitting.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

I feel like flash is a no-brainer on Pantheon because Pantheon got no in build escape which means he susceptible to ganks, flash fix that by letting you flash over walls but also as easily as letting you flash backwards in your lane to your tower. But flash can be used offensively too, like flash]-W to catch and enemy off-guard. Or you can also tower dive someone at their tower if they are low and then flash away while your passive blocks the tower shot.

I take ignite 90% off my games, it´s just so awesome. As many will know Pantheon has insane early game poke, insane early game burst and are just an all-around insanely good early game champion. With ignite] you may have that last punch needed after your combo to finish someone off.

Other viable Summoner Spells

If you are roaming alot and needs to get beck to your lane quickly. Can also be used offensive but Ult + teleport ganking to different lanes.

Good dueling spell, take this against good duelists like Jax and Fiora. Can also be used to peel an ally.

Skills

Passive: Aegis Protection

After attacking or casting spells 4 times, Pantheon will gain a shield, that will block the next Tower Shot or normal/enhanced standard attack that deals more than 40 damage to him.

Explanation:

This is an AWESOME passive, arguably one off the strongest in-game. With this you can completely destroy AAing champions in 1v1. A neat trick is to stack it 3 times, then jump on your opponent with W, thanks to that you will have one shield up and another just one AA/spell away. And remember that this is done by itself so unleash hell at your opponent at the same time and your opponent WILL have to back away. This passive also blocks tower shot making Pantheon one of the best tower-divers in LoL.

Q: Spear Shot

Active: Pantheon hurls his spear at an opponent dealing physical damage. If Heartseeker Strike has been leveled up once, Spear Shot will crit to deal 150% damage against opponents whose current health is below 15% of their max health.
Cost: 45 mana
Cooldown: 4 seconds
Range: 600

Physical Damage: 65/105/145/185/225 (+1.4 per bonus attack damage)
Critical Damage: 97.5/157.5/217.5/277.5/337.5 (+2.1 per bonus attack damage)

Explanation:

I max this spell first, why you may ask? That´s because: Low manacost, low cooldown, high base damage and also awesome bonus AD scalings (+1,4 per bonus attack damage) making it almost the ultimate poking spell. With this spell you will easily force your opponent out of lane after a while and get free last hits. But remember that Heartseeker Strike´s passive gives you 100% crit chance on targets below 15% HP on Spear Shot and auto attacks, making Spear Shot one of the best finishers of all (If you followed my skill order and actually leveled this spell up first).

W: Aegis of Zeonia

Active: Pantheon leaps at an enemy and bashes the enemy with his shield, stunning them for 1 second. Pantheon will also instantly refresh his Aegis Protection.
Cost: 55 mana
Range: 600

Cooldown: 13/12/11/10/9 seconds
Magic Damage: 50/75/100/125/150 (+1.0 per ability power)

Explanation:

A stun, a gapcloser, what more can you ask for? Well i does give you one more thing. IT REFRESHES YOUR PASSIVE. As i explained more in the Aegis Protection section you can abuse this insanely. But if you can try to not engage with this spell, instead walk up to your opponent and start attacking him, if he starts to run away then use Aegis of Zeonia and and deal even more damage, remember you can block at least one towershot with your passive.

E: Heartseeker Strike

Passive: Pantheons autoattacks gain 100% critical strike chance against targets whose current health is below 15% of their max health.
Active: Pantheon channels for 0.75 seconds and deals 3 swift strikes in a cone in front of him. Each strike deals physical damage, and they deal double damage to champions.
Range: 600

Cost: 45/50/55/60/65 mana
Cooldown: 10/9/8/7/6 seconds
Physical Damage Per Strike: 13/23/33/43/53 (+0.6 per bonus attack damage)
Maximum Physical Damage: 39/69/99/129/159 (+1.8 per bonus attack damage)
Physical Damage Per Strike Versus Champions: 26/46/66/86/106 (+1.2 per bonus attack damage)
Maximum Physical Damage Versus Champions: 78/138/198/258/318 (+3.6 per bonus attack damage)

Explanation:

This spell mid game, grahhhhhh. It´s just insane, it deals sooo sick damage when you got your Bloodthirster. That´s why i level up this second, because when you got your Bloodthirster you should almost have maxed this spell which means it´s damage will skyrocket. At full level with Bloodthirster it almost deal the same amount of (real) damage as Katarinas ult. The passive of this spell also gives you 100% crit chance at targets under 15% HP making it very easy to last hit but also finish someone off.

R: Grand Skyfall

Active: Pantheon gathers his strength, channeling for 2 seconds and then leaps high in to the air, crashing down at the target area 1.5 seconds later. Deals magic damage to units at the center (down to 50% at the edge) and slows them by 35% for 1 second. If the channeling is cancelled, the cooldown is reduced to 10 seconds.
Cost: 125 mana
Range to Center of AoE: 5500
Radius of AoE: 1000 (estimate)

Cooldown: 150/135/120 seconds
Magic Damage: 400/700/1000 (+1.0 per ability power)

Explanation:

This is an pretty amazing utility spell, if you go mid you got epic map control, you can gank bot and top and the enemy should not even be able to say MIA thanks to how fast you get there. This spell can also be used to help teammates and turn a 2v1 gank into 2v2 where you enter with the additional burst from your ulti. Some would say that you take it on level 6 then leave it there. I disagree, if you hit it you can almost 3 shot a squishy.

So an example scenario, you gank top without ult , then ults back mid and 3 shot the AP mid. There you got 2 free kills. But remember, this is an golden example not so often But remember that your ult is VERY hard to aim properly, so don´t get frustrated if you fail some times.

Skill Order

>>>

Why over /?

I max Spear Shot first because as you may know maxing Spear Shot and Heartseeker Strike even will cost ALOT of mana in the early levels but deal more damage than maxing Spear Shot, meanwhile maxing Spear Shot gives you low mana cost, low cooldown and high damage. Based on this facts i actually think that maxing Spear Shot first is the best way because you can poke alot more alot harder. As i wrote in the Skill section, Heartseeker Strike starts to deal alot of damage when you get your Bloodthirster thanks to the great AD scaling.

Help! I´m level 1 and don´t know what to take.

There is two options, the first option is Spear Shot, the second is Aegis of Zeonia.

Which you take depends on if you decide to invade or not, if you are planning on invading take Aegis of Zeonia for an almost guaranteed kill because a one second stun should almost always net you a kill thanks to the support of teammates. If you just go to lane take Spear Shot for extra level 1 poke.

Skill order until level 6

or > or >>>>

Item Builds

Starting items

or or

My usual start is flask/pots thanks to the sustain and early ward you get, with this you should be able to stay to at least till you got your Brutalizer and one or two wards. I would start with boots and 3 health pots if I´m up against a heavy skillshot reliant champion like Brand or Cassiopiea, it will be easy to dodge them thanks to your already high base movement speed plus boots of speed. Start with long sword and two health pots if you are sure you will get first blood, it also builds into one of your core items (The Brutalizer).

First back

/ If you were not to aggressive you and died or were forced out of lane you should have your Brutalizer and if you started with Crystalline flask also boots, if you want you can also buy crystalline flask for extra sustain. But if you were forced out of lane earlier then

After that

Now if everything is normal and the laning phase continue then >>.

If you can afford it i highly advise to get B.F Sword before Vampiric Scepter because you get so much extra damage, but if you are desperately in need of life steal or not don´t got enough gold then get Vampiric Scepter.

If you have a very hard time i would advise you to play safe and buy an early Ruby Crystal which you then build into Black Cleaver.

Boots choice

There are 3 options.

This is my main choice of boots, with these together with your ult your ganking presence is extreme. They also let you chase an opponent because not many fleeing opponents damage you on the way from you so your extra movement speed should let you catch them.

I would take these against heavy AP and CC teams, they are cost effective but abit nerfed MR in S3 but still very good.

These are a good option against fed AD carries and also very good against AD bruisers, they also gives you armor so you are more prepared for AD jungler ganks.

Now then?

This is a good time to finish your Black Cleaver,

After that

Now you got enough damage and should build something defensive, your two options are:

This is my favorite of the two, you get alot of HP but also some damage, and the permaslow is no small plus. With this you will be able to stick to the enemy carry and survive.

This is your alternative to , it gives you very nice kiting ability and also it got some nice defenses. Take this if you need to kite.

AD/MR options

Take this if you are against a fed/high burst AP and need the extra MR and shield to survive. This is my main option.

Take this if you are up against a heavy CC team, together with they will have a hard time CCing you.

6th item

For me this is a no-brainer, why you may ask? That´s because late game with full build with you need that extra life to be able to win teamfights but also to be able to assasinate someone and then rivei under ocver of you´re teammates.

Don´t forget to buy

If superfed

Example final build: .

Early Game

* Focus on lasthitting

* Ward your lane

* Roam if you can

* Help teammates in trouble

* Try to get an early advantage over your lane opponent

Lasthitting

Lasthitting is an art in it self, it´s basically to do one attack against your enemy creeps when they are low on HP to get gold for it. You only get gold if YOU kill it. If you don´t last hit and just attack the enemy creeps and your opponent does last hit then you will push the lane which means that after a while you will have overextended and the enemy jungler can then easily gank you becasue you are on the opponents side of the lane.

Trading

When you get to level 2 you can start poke and trade with your opponent, try to just walk up to your opponent and start attacking him, if he runs away onto him and just do your ordinary combo, this should win you most trades but beware of ranged champions because they will attack you on your way so if you feel like you take more damage than you deal if you walk up to him then onto him instead of walking to him to minimize damage taken.

Always remember to have some mana left so you can kill your opponent if he´s low. Keep around 130 mana and you should be alright.

Mid Game

* Remember to watch for objectives (dragon)

* Help teammates in trouble

* Continue to farm

* Help your support with warding

Mid game

A bit into mid game you should still be in the laning-phase, if you played correctly and had a fair match-up you should be at around same farm and maybe even have a kill or two. Your opponent should be afraid of you and just tower-hug all day so you can start focusing on helping other lanes by ganking and such but beware that the enemy jungler can counter-gank you which means you can get killed, if you plan on using your ultimate to gank then try to aim a bit behind them so you make up for the travel time. Mid game is also where dragon becomes more important. If you feel like your team is the strongest try to force a dragon fight where you ult in to dragon and your team follow up for some serious damage. Remember to ward around your lane but also your jungle so you are less likely to get counter-jungled.

Late Game

* Focus on objectives

* Push under cover of wards and ult

* Focus on assassinate the enemy carry

* Don´t get caught without your team

Late game

So late game, this is where Pantheon starts to fall off a bit. But if you have played correctly up to this point you should still be able to help your team. Late game Baron Nashor starts to become a big part of the game, so keep him warded and remember to sweep the Baron area with oracles so you can do a stealthy Baron if you want to. Remember to do Baron at unexpected times or when some in the enemy team are dead so it becomes easier to kill him thanks to the manpower advantage. But try not to do Baron when the whole enemy team is alive and you aren´t that much stronger than the opposing team. That can turn into a disaster where you are fighting Baron and all the suddenly the enemy team flashes over a wall and picks you off one at a time.

Team Fights

[number][/number]Here i will explain Pantheon´s role and what Pantheon brings to TFs.

* High damage AoE nuke + applying 3 stacks of

* 1 second stun/gapcloser

* High damage combo

There are some options on what to do as Pantheon during team fights, the first (IMO best) way is to peel for your ADC (stay close to him and defend him against divers like ) so your ADC can do the most damage possible. The second way is to initiate with ult when you got / and , by using this tactic your opponents will either spread or take a lot of AoE damage, if they spread your team can just pick them off one at a time. If you would die because your opponents didn´t spread and they start focusing you and you die you would revive under cover of your teammates meanwhile your ADC did the most damage possible because no focus on him. The third way is the "assassin" way were you ult behind them and then assassinate the enemy carry, but beware! If your teammates can´t follow up on you it turns into a 1v5 which is BAD for you and your teammates.
