Introduction

Hello everyone!!
Teemo is a late game splitpusher with a lot of autoattack and spell damage, who is also a huge lane bully.

The first time I played Teemo I fell in love with him, and I haven't stopped playing him since.
I have discovered many different ways to play him well. The one I think is the most fun though, is AP Teemo simply because he pisses off the entire enemy team with his 600 damage shrooms, and autoattacks that do far too much damage. You can also get pretty much free kills with well placed shrooms. This guide should help you to play Teemo in the top lane and mid lane.

My summoner name is ParallelVortex (I don't know what I was thinking when I came up with my Solomid username) and I used to main Teemo, and still play him today!

Runes

I like taking magic pen marks on Teemo because it gives him that little extra punch that is needed with his AP. Armor works on Teemo because it makes him less squishy... BEING SQUISHY WILL GET YOU DESTROYED!!!!!!!!!! AP glyphs obviously give you AP... AP is necessary to play AP Teemo... No kidding. Same thing with AP Quintessences. These runes will give you vital base AP, good magic pen, and will make you less squishy.

I like 21/9/0 masteries on AP Teemo. I like putting 21 points in the offence tree because you get added attack speed, AP, magic pen, and flat out damage. I like putting 9 in the defense tree because it gives Teemo that little extra health that he desperately needs if you are using my item build.

For the offense tree: I max "Fury" because it gives a lot of attack speed which can be used to get more poison off and allows for better splitpushing. I put 2 points in "Sorcery" because cooldown reduction is good for Teemo's shrooms and his Blinding Dart, but doesn't affect his autoattacks, his primary source of damage. I maxed "Mental Force" because it gives AP (pretty self explanatory). I put a point into "Arcane Mastery" and "Archmage" for the same reason. I put a point into "Spell Weaving" and "Blade Weaving" because the alternation between Teemo's autoattacks and his abilities (primarily Blinding Dart) is even more deadly with the season 4 masteries. I put 1 point into "Executioner" because it helps with finishing champions off if they are trying to 1v1 you. I put a point into "Arcane Blade" because it makes your autoattacks do EVEN MORE damage. I swear this mastery was made for Teemo. I maxed "Devastating Strikes" because it gives you armor pen. and magic resistance, which will make you do even more damage with your autoattacks. Putting a point into "Havoc" was a no brainer, because it literally gives you more damage.

For the defense tree: I max "Enchanted Armor" because it gives you a good amount of armor and magic resistance, helping to face any type of lane opponent. I max "Recovery" because health regen is good on everyone. I put 1 point in "Block" because I have to in order to get to the next tier. I honestly don't think its very good. I max "Veteran's Scars" because, well, who doesn't want health? I put a point in "Juggernaut" because it gives you percent max health, which is really good on everyone, especially squishy champions like Teemo.

Summoner Spells

Primary Set
Flash is good because you can use it to get out of sticky situations or to chase and pick up kills.

Ignite goes well with Teemo because you do extra damage, along with EVEN MORE damage over time (with your ... you pretty much get 2 ignites.

I take Sweeping Lens because when you hit 6, you are given a 'ward' in your kit. Therefore, you can use your trinket slot to clear other peoples' wards.

fiendish-codex Fiendish Codex is the next item you want to buy to get some added AP and cooldown reduction ---- Build into nashors-tooth because you get AP and attack speed. Great for Teemo's Toxic Shot

rabadons-deathcap Gives lots of AP which allows you to do tons of damage with your mushrooms and autoattacks

mercurys-treads vs heavy AP team/ninja-tabi vs heavy AD team (boots-of-swiftness fun to charge with/vs heavy CC team)

liandrys-torment You will be a little too squishy up until this point. I like Liandry's simply because with it, Teemo will not be focused and bursted down in 2 seconds, wile still gaining AP. It also gives a burn and magic pen. Yes your autoattacks will be even more annoying

void-staff AP and a lot of magic pen... what more could you ask for?

guardian-angel Obvious ending item because of the fact that it gives you two lives (don't get too cocky with this you still don't have that much health)

Situational Items

Rylai's Crystal Scepter
Good for being tankier while still gaining AP
Deathfire Grasp
A lot more AP and some cooldown reduction. The active is nice for 1v1s if you get caught splitpushing
Trinity Force
With the new changes to phage, trinity force is a lot better on Teemo, giving him even more chase potential and making him harder to catch (do not buy with lich bane as the spellblade passive is unique)
Runaan's Hurricane
Good for splitpushing, and have more DPS. Its passive also procs your E (I do not recommend this item though)
Hextech Gunblade
Good for strong AP burst

Take first on Teemo because it gives more autoattack damage and allows for early lane dominance. Max it because your autoattacks are going to do a ridiculous amount of damage. Take second because it gives you a little more burst when exchanging or poking your lane enemy. The blind also really helps with lane exchanges and gank protection. Max it second because it has good AP scaling and the blind lasts for a longer time. Take thid mainly because it is not necessary very early. Level 3 is about the time junglers are going to gank you anyways, so it is good to use to get out of sticky situations. Max it last as it does no damage, and you probably have boots anyway. Take at 6 because it is your ult and max it for the same reason. You can shut down junglers with this ability and pick up quick kills by a low health person running over it.

Skills

Camouflage
His passive can be used in a multitude of ways:

1) Use the stealth to proc the second part of his passive: the added attack speed to get some quick farm, and can get a few more shots off to harass in laning phase

2) Use it to confuse your enemies in laning phase by not being able to see where you are

3) If you are in a bad position and you see a gank coming or the entire team rushing towards where you are, stay hidden so they will pass you. The chances are you won't die (use this with care because you don't want to stay hidden during a teamfight and miss out on gold/kills and the opportunity to help your team)

4) Position yourself with this passive in the middle of the lane where you're able to reach your opponent, and start autoattacking your enemy. You're able to deal atleast up to 10-20% of their health. (This change is by Ary Alexis, a reader of this guide who posted a comment. I used it and saw it reasonably worked. Thanks Ary Alexis!)
Blinding Dart
1) In teamfights, blind and burst down AD carries... you are making yourself useful in teamfights because otherwise you are completely worthless

2) If you are running away from someone, it is great to kite with because the enemy won't be able to attack you. Use this with and you will hopefully get away from the enemy

3) You can use it to initiate 1v1s because you can do damage while negating some from your enemy

4) Don't spam it, but try to use it a decent amount of times late game when you have more mana/blue buff

Take this ability 2nd, and max it 2nd
Move Quick
1) Use Move Quick when running away from someone, and if they aren't Hecarim or Singed, you will probably be able to get away

2) Good for chasing, so use this when you want to get a couple more autoattacks off on them to get the kill

Take this ability 3rd, and max it last
Toxic Shot
This ability has no active so there aren't any ways to specifically USE it...
It does have decent AP scaling, so your autoattacks will to a lot of damage late game.

Take this 1st, and max it 1st, no matter what
Noxious Trap
This is what makes Teemo, Teemo.
Shrooms are tricky to use, but is a vital part to playing Teemo
(Shrooms have great AP scaling, so they will do A BUNCH of damage late game)


1) Shrooms act as wards, so put them in gank spots to get a little extra vision

2) They slow enemies, so put them in gank spots to protect against getting ganked
(These are great for protecting against ganks because they slow the jungler, giving you extra time to run to safety, they give vision, so you can have even more time to get to safety, and they do damage, discouraging ganks before they happen)

3) Put them almost everywhere mid/late game because you never know if the vision will help, or you are able to pick up a quick kill if an enemy is low

3) They suck up a lot of mana so be sure not to use them recklessly early-mid game

4) (This is hard to do by the way) Place some down behind/in front of you while running from enemy(ies)

5) (sort of contradicts #3) great for clearing out minion waves because of their AOE damage. DO NOT DO THIS EARLY GAME AS YOU WILL DRAIN MOST OF YOUR MANA

Take it and max it as soon as possible

I hate laning against Jayce primarily because he is one of the only top laners that can out-poke you. he takes out half your health with his Q-E, can chase you with his Q (cannon form), and counter-harass you. Play as defensively and possible and be sure to dodge his Q-E. Try to harass him when he has no mana, but otherwise, you will get destroyed
Pantheon

One of Teemo's biggest counters. I hate laning against Pantheon because his abilities to tons of damage and can kill you quickly. The best thing to do is to play defensively and farm at tower. Be sure to get many ganks and watch out for his ult.
Riven

I hate this champion with a burning passion because she has a shield, a lot of early game all-in potential, a lot of cc, multiple getaways, does a ton of damage, and can snowball ridiculously hard. Play VERY defencively against her and whatever you do, DO NOT FEED HER. Unlike Pantheon, she can snowball super hard.
Tryndamere

Favors You
You counter Tryndamere because you can get away from him with your and your can make him useless when fighting. Take advantage of his weak early game before he hits 6. Then you should be more careful
Yasuo

Favors You
Teemo is a good counter to Yasuo (I think at least) because of his move speed and his range. You can zone him out very well with your -autoattack combo, and the cooldown on his is about 3x the cooldown of your . He can do a considerable amount of damage to you with his knock up and engage (and ult if he's 6), but your gives you enough speed to dodge it. Your blind can also negate a good amount of his damage.

Pros and cons

Pros:

  • High autoattack damage
  • Blind that can shut down ADs
  • Very hard to catch
  • Amazing splitpusher with fast wave-clear
  • He has wards in his kit
  • Huge lane bully

Cons:

  • Very squishy and can get killed easily
  • Useless in teamfights
  • Can lose lane easily to high early game damage champs
  • No hard CC
  • Dies to ganks easily
  • Prone to getting focused

Well done guide i have to say. I would like to give you and the other players a tip with Teemo's passive. ( Test it out if you haven't, doing it often on ranked so i won't lose any experience and still are able to deal some amazing early damage to get lane control. )



Passive: Camouflage

4) By positioning yourself with this passive in the middle of the lane where you're able to reach your opponent, you're able to deal atleast up to 10-20% of their health.
