Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hello guys, I'm Apple on the NA Servers I'm currently maining ADC & Top and my top elo is 1800. Thresh right now in my opinion is very similar to two other AD Carry's at the moment, Draven & Urgot. I'd say he's more like Urgot in the sense as I think of him to be an Anti-Carry mainly because of his passive & his q. On the other hand you can expect to see big chunks coming out of your enemy's health later on in the game, which is similar to draven. I've only been playing him in normals at the moment but I've had a lot of success in the laning phase and in the late game. Thresh offers a lot of utility for the team and can also be built as a bruiser.

Thresh is also very viable in the jungle and support but I prefer him as AD because his jungle really isn't anything different than most strong gankers and his support is great if you can play him but I don't play that much support.

Masteries

Depending on your summoner spell you can run 21/9/0 with cleanse if you want some extra magic resist and health but I personally prefer the 21/0/9 because he already gets Armor with his passive and if you run scaling MR you should be fine.

Summoner Spells



Ignite/Flash

Ignite / Flash is a solid combo for early game dominance but more often than not I tend to run the 2nd setup.



Cleanse/Flash

Cleanse / Flash probably my favorite two summoner spells in the game for AD Carry, if you can time it right it can save your life, however it might take some practice.

Other Notable Summoner Spells


I've been seeing a lot of people use this spell and its a good combo with teleport, because if you're teleporting you can use this if someone like ezreal is throwing a Q at you and you don't want to be interrupted it's also pretty decent for laning uses as well.

Grab this if your support is trolling you and takes ignite.


Fairly decent for chasing but I'd prefer my cleanse flash over it.

Skills

Passive: Damnation

Explanation

his god damn passive in combination with his Q is what makes him the monster he is late-game. Just remember to pick up all souls!

However you don't get any magic resist from these souls so that's why I run the MR per level blue's.

Q: Death Sentence

Explanation:

Passive : This makes thresh ADC basically. Think of it as a Nasus Q only it's on your autoattacks OH THE GLORY.

There are 4 different types of colors that go along with this passive each indicating how much more damage you do. Here is the order from least to greatest.

Blue Stage - Green Stage - Yellow Stage - Red Stage

Active : This makes him a flipping boss, if you're laning against a squishy support or something like that just pull yourself to her autoattack E throw a lantern for your support and go man mode. You can hit targets over a wall and can pull yourself to them but you can't pull them through the walls. Lame I know.

W: Dark Passage

Explanation:

YOU CAN USE THIS TO PICKUP SOULS

There is a lot of combos to be done with that and I will explain more in the support section, but basically makes for great utility for your team. It acts as a shield, it acts as a life saver because your teammate ran into enemy team and is running for his life, it makes for a great initiation tool and soo much more.

E: Flay

Explanation:

Before I explain how to use this spell I highly, highly, highly, HIGHLY recommend you try using this without smart cast until you get the hang of it unless you are already a thresh player. For me this was the hardest spell to get right.

Basically there are two different directions you can fling them, you can fling them towards you or you can fling them a little bit in front of where they originally were. Either way works... but It's so much better if you can get it right.

This also offers some nice burst really early game and really late game.

R: The Box

Explanation:

This spell flipping rocks... (I think I've said that about pretty much every spell so far but its true) this thing can be used in so many situations, it can be used while running away it can be used when engaging, etc.

The slow on this is ridiculous, and the damage is fairly nice as well. However don't make the mistake if you use smartcast to try and click it on someone because it revolves around you.

I prefer this rotation.

But you can also do this.

The latter helps if you need the extra shield amount or the cooldown for some big plays, but I'd say most of the time pick up E over W

Item Builds

Starting Items



As I always say, boots are for pussys.

But still a viable build if you want to dodge skill shots or out run your opponent



I prefer this over all of the other starting items for all of my AD Carry's.

It gives you some nice extra damage and also lets you build a quick vamp scepter.

or

This is if you are the biggest pussy in the world and don't yolo swag 420 all day.

No but really buy this if you feel like you're going to get fucked up.

Core Items



Bread and Butter of most AD Carry's I wouldn't recommend not building this. Offers you great sustain and great damage whats not to love?



Same thing with BT, buy this shit. Gives you great damage.

Now the question I get asked the most is should I buy cleaver or last whisper. The short answer is well roughly quoting from this video. If someone has 120+ armor buy last whisper, now everything does vary but I'll link you guys this video and you can check it out.





Now this item is really bitter sweet on thresh. It allows you great amount of movement speed and attack speed so he can position better and do more damage but at the same time it kind of hurts thresh's Q. I personally prefer build PD right after BT but if you buy IE & BT you'll do more damage with your Q so it really is your choice on this one.



Another great item for AD Carry's that I build over PD for most AD Carry's but on thresh I think I've built it maybe once and it was for wave clearing and for better position. I wouldn't really recommend this unless you need wave clear.



You only build this if you are manly enough. That is all.



This really is a great item in combination with your BT & IE if you didn't build PD yet. It offers a nice slow, some tankiness, and of course my favorite cooldown reduction.



This item can be really good for thresh in combination with a red color Q but I personally don't build it.



This item is dirty with thresh the CDR, AD & ATT speed all make for a great item. The reason to build this over PD would simply be because of the tenacity. Which makes a great item.


Defensive Items



My favorite item post black cleaver nerf. Only a real man would build a MAN-MOGS. At the moment I build this on basically every champion I play its really strong and allows you to take some damage. INB4 Manmog nerf.



This item is good... but at the same time I hate it. I personally only build this in really sticky situations but It definitely is a good item if you can't position correctly, if you are new to AD, or you're getting shit on. You can do a lot of extra damage in your second life so definitely good but I personally don't build it.



This used to be my favorite defensive AD item until I discovered the true power of the man-mogs. It's really great having an extra cleanse and also offers some nice AD.



This item is flipping king. Offers a great active that will fuck up every AD that gets in your way, a great passive that will let you kite like a super hero and all around great stats.

Boot Enchants



This is decent but I personally don't like it.



Really great for kiting and for chasing down your prey.



By far my favorite boots, however not as good without the teleport. Only buy these if you need to secure your objectives near your base.



Decent but I wouldn't build these on thresh.

Thresh Yolo Combos

Still working on trying them all.

By far my favorite combo right now, you can pull the enemy towards sona she Q's does some nice damage then you go in and finish them off. She offers great sustain as well as a nice CC Ulti. Just be careful and don't let her take your kills.

Pretty strong, she offers nice utility and that polymorph really messes up people with escapes like ezreal or tristana. Her ulti works very well with thresh and allows you to go super man mode.

Basically same thing as sona. Nice burst damage nice stun, nice ulti stun. Just no sustain.

This shit goes hard, fizz support isn't played as much as it should be and is kind of known as one of those supports you play if you really don't want to support. When thresh drags the enemy to him fizz can burst him down and thresh can use his ulti in combo with fizz for super damage. No sustain and no sustain unfortunately.

Really cool synergy with both of your hooks. Also provides some nice utility with his slow & stun & knockup.

Early Game

FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM FARM...... FARM

Thresh on his own is definitely no match for most AD Carry's he really needs souls and items to become the monster he is. So the way to counteract his slight weakness is to have your support zone for you. Now of course there are going to be lanes where the enemy team makes a stupid mistake resulting in a double for you, but his early game still is fairly weak in comparison to his mid and late-game.

Wait until you have your ulti (or level 7 for your extra q damage on passive)if you want to engage or until you get some damage items. & Once you get a BF your Q passive in the red zone will do a shit ton of damage, continue to poke the enemy until they're low enough for you to go in for the kill.

Mid Game

This is the time of the game that is comparable to draven with your Q now you're able to do sometimes half your opponents HP with one red zone q passive. At this stage in the game he turns more into a chunking ADC. Don't be afraid to go man-mode sometimes if you've stacked your passive enough to the point you have a shit ton of armor. Also you don't have to hit in the red zone all the time it still does a lot of bonus damage no matter what zone you are in so don't stop attacking just to get in the red zone, instead AA and then use some of your skills AA AA AA and then when your skills are back use them again and with that you should be able to get near the red zone for at least your first attack before you use your skills.

Late Game

Just AA and win game. At this point you should have enough souls to go man mode and you should have built a tanky item by now so just win game pls.
