Introduction

Hey guys! My name is Beautiful Korean and I'm currently Master I on the NA server. I main the jungle and is my favorite champion by far due to his ability to completely shut down the enemy jungler. His mobility makes him tricky to catch and will make enemis rage when slips away at the last second.

Why pick Shaco?

is one of the best gankers, splitpushers, and 1v1ers in the game as well as being able to play mind tricks on the enemy team. How often have you thought that you could grab the pesky clown only to have him deceive at the last second? How often have you tried your hardest to kill the enemy only to have it blow up in your face? causes much rage for the enemy team and if you enjoy doing this then is right for you.

is a lot like chess. Easy to play, but hard to master. The ability to set boxes in the correct area, predict the enemy jungler's movement, gank effectively as well as managing your farm and experience correctly is what separates the good from the bad. I cannot guarantee you that you will get the hang of if it is your first try, but if you keep practicing then I assure you that it will pay off.

What can Shaco do?

can

-Splitpush
-1v1
-Gank
-Clear fast
-Counterjungle
-Peel
-Win the game

is very effective at splitpushing due to his clone and Jack in the Box. If you do not want to teamfight head towards an empty lane and start pushing and sooner or later an enemy will have to come to stop you.

Late game he becomes a monster at 1v1 due to the fact that there are two of him and both due incredible amounts of damage with a proper item build. Also, if the enemy carry gets caught by a Jack in the Box he is dead because you will kill him in three hits while he is feared for 1.5 seconds.

is amazing at ganking due to his which turns you invisible so that the enemy cannot spot you while you gank. If you have a teammate that can stun this usually guarantees a kill because of the crit from your Q as well as ignite.

can clear extremely fast due to his Jack in the Box being there for tank and deal damage for him. Setting up boxes before the game starts makes one of the fastest clears in the game. You will also take little to no damage because of the Jack in the Box taking aggro.

Counterjungling is where shines. Since you can Q over walls, the amount of time it takes to get to the enemy buffs is cut in half, and by the time they start their wraiths or wolves you have already killed their buff and ran away.

If you cannot kill their AD carry alone you might as well peel for yours. A and is enough to peel for your AD carry as he wrecks the enemy team.

If you utilize to the highest potential you will win the game no matter what.

Runes

I run ability power now due to the amount of damage it gives in early ganks. You get +11 more damage on your shiv which could make or break a gank, as well as faster clears with your boxes.

I run armor runes due to the fact that with the you are far too squishy after your clear that you will not be able to gank without a serious risk of dying. Also, there are a ton of high physical damage dealing champions in the game that are being played frequently, so this will help you duel heavy duelists in the jungle like Vi or Lee Sin. There is simply no alternative. The amount of disadvantage of being squishy far outweighs the miniscule, insignificant amount of damage you will gain by going any other rune.

0 Utility
We will always put 21 points in the offensive tree because is designed for assassinating and this will help. These will also give you a good start into the game.

9 points will go into defense due to the fact that is a 1v1er and these masteries will help him survive and win the fight. It is also extremely useful because with my runes we will be extremely so the extra health and defense are worth it.

No Juggernaut? This guide sucks!

3% of maximum health is only really useful on tanks. By the time is level 18 he will have around 1900 maximum HP. 3% of 1900 = 57 which is basically nothing. It's better to put a point into Oppression due to the fact that has a natural slow on his which will then help him win the fight.

Beautiful Korean, what about Tough Skin or Bladed Armor?

Tough Skin and Bladed Armor are not useful at all because half the time you will be having your do the tanking for you so those masteries are essentially useless for the early portions of the game. By the time mid to late game rolls around you won't even need it anymore.

Summoner Sets

Primary Set
This along with boxes early game will guarantee a kill on the enemy jungler almost all the time.
Also, cast this before you go in to kill the AD carry to lessen the amount of HP he heals back with lifesteal.

I run most of the time because I prefer to assassinate rather than teamfight. In my opinion I believe isn't very good because when you cast it they will have flashed and it will have worn off already. However, does a lot more late game than so if you think the game will go on for a long time then get that.

Always run because if you do not you are retarded. Even though can clear fast with his if the enemy jungler is anywhere near Bronze elo he will outsmite you because you do not have . This will cost you the game.

can also smite steal very efficiently. over the dragon or baron wall, and smite! Practice this many times and I guarantee you will make the other team rage.
Smite & Exhaust
Very good in teamfights. Exhaust the AD carry so that he is slowed and cannot kill your team while you whack away at him.
Smite & Teleport
Scary tool to splitpush. The enemy team will never expect where you are and if you get your bot lane or top lane to place a ward in the bush you can teleport and get a free easy kill. Since you splitpush very well you can push lanes very quickly and the enemy team will think they can do Baron. Teleport in time and you will be there for the fight as well as the lane pushing and killing towers.

Maximize Shaco

Starting Build(s)
Build 1
Machete and HP pots are simply the best start now for Shaco. No other alternative is better than this, not even Doran's Blade. Doran's Blade used to be good on him until Elder Lizard became core. You clear much much faster with Hunter's Machete as well as having a lot of sustain in those times where you get caught or are low HP after ganking.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
Build Order
Hunter's Machete is self-explanatory.

I used to run Berserker's Greaves until I realized that Mobility Boots gave so much more utility. You can get to lanes much quicker than the benefit of having more attack speed with Berserker's Greaves will ever give. Also, using Deceive with your mobility boots allow you to get to the enemy faster or escape!

Your skill order should always be >>>

first for the cooldown and explosion damage. second for the slow and damage. third for the fear duration. And fourth because there is no fifth.

Why Jack in the Box over Deceive first?

The fear duration on is too good to pass up due to the fact that a 1.5 second fear on an enemy can cost them their life. is not good because even though the crit damage increases it does not do that much damage.

Skills of the Demon Jester

Backstab
Great passive. Allows you to take down running enemies very quickly. Keep in mind that your shiv does more damage while they are running as well.

One tip when you are ganking is to walk behind them so that your crit will do bonus damage because of your passive.

Always always try to walk behind the jungle creeps while attacking to give you the Backstab passive. You clear much faster than standing idly by and attacking.
Deceive
Best ganking skill in the game. Turns you invisible for a short while so that you can walk up to the enemy unseen and suddenly pop out of nowhere. Cooperate with your teammates to land a nice kill.

One tip is to deceive over walls to get to your destination faster. In the guide I will show you which walls you can jump over and which ones you cannot. We keep this at level 1 because the scaling is not that great compared to other skills.

Keep in mind that the enemy can see the puff of smoke when you deceive so try not to Q in obvious spots where the enemy will know that you have disappeared and are going for a gank.
Jack In The Box
Great jungling tool. This ability allows to you "set up" for a camp much like what can do with his saplings. The usefulness of this at level 1 is too good to pass up.
Two-Shiv Poison
Great ganking skill. Use this during a gank to slow the enemy allowing you and your teammate to attack him more. This is what makes ganks so scary. Not only does this spell do damage and slows when it lands BUT IT ALSO APPLIES A NATURAL SLOW ON AUTO ATTACKS AS LONG AS THE ABLILTY IS NOT ON COOLDOWN. You would be surprised by the fact that a large amount of players don't know this.
Hallucinate
[http://i.imgur.com/EuOq9tj.jpg]

One of the best ultimates in the game. You can do so many things with this skill This allows you to solo dragon as soon as you have a . You can dodge projectiles like ults or ults. This skill is what separates the truly good players from the bad. Knowing how to micromanage your will make or break the game. Also, your clone gets your passive bonus as well as any other passives from items!!

To control the clone simply ALT+Right click or press R

How to utilize Hallucinate to its highest potential

Tower-diving If you use when you towerdive, the tower will switch targets from you to the clone. However, when the clone you starts attacking the enemy and you are in tower range, the target will switch to you, so keep this in mind.

Slowing enemies: If you are low health and running away, control your clone to attack the person chasing you. Know that your clone slows enemies so this will give you a chance to escape.

Dodge projectiles: As I mentioned before, you can use to dodge projectiles as it makes you disappear from the map for .5 seconds.
KEEP IN MIND If you and you do not order your clone to do anything it will follow you. This can give away your position. Make sure you send it somewhere or order it to attack so that you can get away safely.

Going to Die by Ignite? will get rid of the last tick of if you time it right, so this can save your life.

List of Projectiles can Dodge

Everything. Think about it this way. When you use , ceases to exist for .5 seconds. This is why it is essential to practice ! You can even dodge the allies summoner spell .

Guide updated! There are still a few sections I have to update content-wise, but the current guide should serve as helpful for the time being. I'm still getting used to the new format of Solomid (to be honest, I do not like it very much), as well as Season 4 (I'm still confused about the jungle patterns and game changes overall), so be on the lookout for updated content on this guide!

The Jungle, Your Team, and You

Jungling in my opinion is the most difficult role in the game. Junglers, in essence, need to:

 • Lead the team
 • Help the lanes
 • Know everything that's going on on the minimap
 • Predict the opposing jungler
 • Ward the opposing jungle
 • Serve as a beacon of communication
 • Encourage the team
 • Secure Dragon and later on Baron
 • Secure own buffs

A jungler is the main core of the team. You are the one that is everywhere, so you must know everything. Your map awareness has to be excellent and your prediction skills have to be excellent and your leading abilities have to be excellent because if they are not and the enemy jungler is a tiny bit better than you at all of those then you will lose.

It is because of these reasons that a jungler can NEVER rage. Even if the team is yelling at you for their mistakes (which happens all the time;; top lane loses 1v1 firstblood "JUNGLER NOOB") you cannot rage. You have to understand the team's complaints and, if they were wrong explain what they were doing wrong and help them as much as possible. If you did make a mistake be the bigger man and apologize and straighten your mistakes. Otherwise you will lose because everyone is too busy fighting to focus on the game.

Play to get better, not to win. You are not going to win games if you don't get better. Sure you might have that game where the opposite team had a leaver and two afks, but what did that do to your overall skill? Nothing.

Learn the junglers. Learn how much damage they can do, learn their range, overall clear time, etc. It is easier to jungle against a champion that you are familiar with.

Learn to lead. Learn to keep your cool no matter what. Learn to bear with the team blaming you, learn to ignore what appears to be an imminent loss that can be avoided, learn to think rational and be above the game you're playing. You need to look at the situation at hand, relax, and think of a strategy to win the game.

REMEMBER! A gank is successful as long as you at least make the opponent waste a summoner.

If I decide to counter-jungle or just ward, I will say in chat " Going enemy jungle please help if necessary! " They know what's going on, they know what will happen, everything's planned, there's no chaos, the match goes on in order.

Sometimes you will not have time to say it but that is OK because that is why pings exist. Teammates will notice multiple pings and try to help you unless they are blind or stupid.

By midgame you should be able to figure out how this game is going to turn out. If your teamcomp is not built for teamfighting and you know you will lose the game if you 5v5, say in the chat "We should not teamfight." This is communicating to your team.

NEVER MUTE YOUR ALLIES! Late game communication is key to winning the game so even if they make you want to punch a wall do not mute your team!

Communicate to your team what you are going to do. Before a gank I will ping the lane and ask if there is any ward. If there is, I will try to either gank from another angle or go to another lane. If there is not, I will say "I gank" and gank the lane with my teammate.

Encourage the players! Even if a teammate is playing like a piece of shit and is going 0-10 in his lane, he will do better if you tell him something like " You are doing fine. The only thing you could work on is farming a little more and joining us for teamfights " instead of telling him "you are a piece of shit and you should uninstall and never play this game again " because that leads to arguments and arguments are never good between your team.

The Best Shaco Role

AP Shaco

AP is nothing to AD I feel. AP used to be good when the duration for his was longer, but now that it had been reduced to 60 seconds, you can only have a few boxes up before they expire. Also, the boxes are your main source of damage, and they can be killed very easily by AOE. His shiv is high cooldown, and his clone will not be a guaranteed kill since it can be kited and killed very easily, even though it has a 1.0 AP ratio. A proper AD build can do thousands and thousands more damage in a teamfight, and assassinate the enemy AD carry. As AP you will be useless once the enemy initiates since you did not have time to put down your boxes. You will shiv once and then run around and wait for the cooldown to come up again. It is hit-or-miss whether or not the enemy will run into a pile of boxes, since the duration is very short.

Lane Shaco
Do not even think about it. whole kit revolves around instilling fear into the enemy's minds. A good will make the enemy team think constantly, "What if he is near me now?" and will not want to make plays for fear of getting killed. is squishy and cannot 1v1 against most bruisers or AP mids.

Support Shaco
Simply laughable. You do nothing. Sure you might have to disrupt the enemy team but it is a hit-or-miss whether or not they will step over it. Your does nothing and your does nothing and your does nothing and your does nothing so you do nothing and essentially your team will have to carry you because it is a 4v5 with a support .

In conclusion, we will always play Jungle .

A Few Ground Rules

Many people are under the illusion that sucks because he does not bring anything to teamfights. That is true; cannot CC the entire team like or , or tank and soak up damage like , but the game does not revolve solely on who will win teamfights or not. excels in other areas that many champions do not; and that is why there must be an ideal team for to wreak havoc and win the game.

Do not play under these circumstances:

 • Your team does not have a tank
 • Your team does not have any CC
 • Your team is full of assassins (i.e. mid and top
 • Your team does not have any form of waveclear

Simply put, if your team is full of assassins, does not have a tank, or has no CC, that means your team is squishy and one hard engage will result in an ace for the enemy team.

thrives on miscommunication. If your team has no tank or waveclear, there is one mindset amongst the enemy: Push Down Mid. They know that your team cannot do anything against them and so you will lose the game. However, let's say that your team does have

 • A tank
 • Waveclear
 • CC

While you are splitpushing, the enemy will first think: Push Down Mid. But, they find their minions instantly obliterated by a and a ! What do they think now? Well, one person might say: Just engage onto the tower! which is a terrible idea. Another person might think: Send one top! but by then you will have gotten a tower and your team can now engage. Another person might think: Go for Baron! but by then your team will have pushed down mid and gotten a tower.

An ideal team would be

But let's be real. Half of these champions are banned and all of these champions are popular picks. But anybody that fulfills the above requirements are good to make a good team and that makes every player happy.

Maximize Shaco

Early Game Goals

OR
Mid Game Goals

-The Most Overlooked Item

This will give you some nice MR and damage and a shield for when AP mids think they can burst you down. You cannot forget this item because if you gank you will get bursted down to 0 very quickly. Keep in mind though if the enemy team does not have any AP you can skip this and go straight to the next items.

Which Late Game Items?

Assassin

-Kill the AD in Three Hits

Rush this if you plan on going the Assassin route. One backstab will bring an enemy carry to 2/3 health making them wet the bed. Keep in mind though if you do not have a tanky top lane like this might not be a good idea because no one is there to soak up damage and distract the enemy team like a so they will just focus you and you will die.

-Kill the AD Faster

This along with will allow you to 1v1 any AD carry no matter how fed they get. When a teamfight starts simply Q and look for the enemy carry and kill him. He will die in three hits. This also gives a nice movement speed bonus and allows you to walk through units so that you cannot get creepblocked when you are trying to kill the enemy team. Also gives you a higher crit percentage.

Teamfight

-Be the Hero

Go this route if you wish to teamfight. This will give you great presence in teamfights because nobody likes looking at two with Guardian Angels. With all that said, it might look like not a lot of damage is being built with the survivability you will get from this build will allow your and your clone to be in the fight longer dealing a bit more damage.

-Unorthodox But It Works

Get this next because rushing Infinity Edge or Phantom Dancer is no good due to the low crit percentage. This item is very good at any point in the game. This allows you to still be able to assassinate the enemy carry due to its high attack speed. It also gives you a quick burst of speed allowing you to chase the enemy. Keep in mind the more auto attacks you land the longer the duration of the active.

Splitpush

-Clear a Wave in 5 Seconds

Get this if you want to splitpush. Splitpush is usually good if your team comp is not built for teamfighting. This is one of the best items for to splitpush because of the passive and movement speed.

Other Items

-Really Kill the AD in Three Hits

This coupled with will make the AD see gray before they know it.

-Where is Their Armor?

Very good item for . Gives % Armor pen reduction per hit which works on his clone. The only reason I don't get it is because it does not offer any assassinating potential due to no crit and offers very little tanky stats.

-Always Get This Item

This item is too good to pass up because of its passive which works on your clone as well. It gives a good slow and incredible life steal, allowing you to survive longer. All in all a great item for .

Items Not to Get

-Shit Unless You're 10/0 in 3 Minutes

Do not get this! This item is way too expensive to buy and offers just all-around stats instead of focusing on one. It will give you a little bit of burst, a little bit of tankiness, which is not what we want to build on Shaco.

-Shit's End

Even though the passive works with your clone it is too expensive to make room for other core items, so after you buy this you will have no money and do no damage for a good amount of the game.

-Only Good on Garen

Your health is too low for this item to be of any use.

Beautiful Korean, why no Ravenous Hydra?

hen I used to be Bronze back in Season II, I tried out for the first time in ranked, and didn't build . After some feeding by me and throwed ganks, my whole team (and the enemy team) began raging at me for not buying , which was supposedly the best item in the game for . They told me "Never play again, you blow at him, what kind of retard doesn't build ?"

I was a little tilted by all the rage, but I shooed it off and started another game, picking again and still not building .

The same thing happened. I fed, and both teams began berating me for not building the Holy Jesus of Items, .

Naturally, as with all rational people, I grew bitter and angry, and I vowed never to use in my builds.

Now to you. I'm not going to lie, is an amazing item for Shaco. Of course 99.99% of WILL build it. It's perfect for splitpushing and waveclear and is even pretty decent in 1v1 situations. You jungle a lot quicker with it than without it. It has very high gold efficiency. There is no reason in the world why wouldn't get it. But I won't. And that's that.

The Wriggle's Lantern

revolves around constant ganks and bringing pressure to the enemy team. If your whole time is spent jungling, where is your pressure? Where are your ganks? If you want to play a champion that farms all day, play , and do not disrespect .

You are Shaco, Therefore you are...

Selfish.

Extremely, extremely selfish.

When ganking,Always take the kill. Think of it as a jungler's tax. The only way anywhere near useful late game is if he is fed before then. It does not matter if your team is complaining or threatening to AFK because you are so good at taking kills, remember you will carry the game. If you let your laner take the kill you will get only a portion of the gold and by the time late game rolls around you will only have one core item and you will be useless. A kill is much more useful to you than it is to someone like because all a has to do is be a wall which is very easy for him to do.

Look at this graph of gold distribution for junglers.

(Graph thanks to Grizzb)

At 11 minutes in the game, a typical route without ganking will net you ~1400 gold, while a laner will score more than twice that.

Junglers have been shifted from carry junglers to tank junglers, because junglers in general typically receive 2/3 the farm of their solo lane counter parts. So if junglers can’t compete with solo laner farm it forces them to play a champion that can still remain relevant and support their solo lanes through AOE cc in team fights (, ).

is one of the most resource-hungry champion and taking kills is the only way to make sure you are useful late game.

Besides, if you did not take kills they will rage at you anyway for being useless late game.

A shit life leads.

Jungle Matchups

Difficulty in general will be scored using

for easy
for medium
for hard

-Alistar

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Slow
Very easy to counterjungle. His jungle clear is extremely slow so you can walk all over his face. You should not die to this terrible jungler otherwise you should uninstall.

-Amumu

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average
Very easy to counterjungle. Although his jungle clear is somewhat fast you can easily counterjungle him and he cannot kill you unless you suck. Try to delay his level 6 as much as possible because after that he will wreck your entire team.

-Chogath

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average
Easy to counterjungle. Jungle clear is average. Although he has high sustain he can't really stop you.

-Darius

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
Somewhat easy to counterjungle. Jungle clear is pretty average and if he catches you he will do a shitton of damage to you so be careful.

-Dr. Mundo

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Fast
Easy to counterjungle. Although his jungle clear is godlike you can easily mess him up by camping a few boxes and wrecking him with ignite. His sustain is terrible due to his HP using skills so you can easily kill him.

-Elise

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
High amounts of damage!!! However, she is very squishy so catch her on her cooldowns and you will win. Be careful not to get caught by net because that will buy enough time for the enemy team to arrive and kill you.

-Evelynn

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Fast
She can fuck you up if you mess up once due to her high burst damage. Hard to catch due to her mobility.

-Hecarim

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Fast
Easy to counterjungle. However, he has high sustain so be careful when you attack him because he will heal a portion of it back. Be careful of his damage as well.

-Heimerdinger

-Jarvan IV

Counterjungle Difficulty: DIFFICULT
Jungle Clear: Medium
Medium matchup. If he catches you he can deal a load of burst damage. Good sustain due to the armor bonus from his skill.

-Jax

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Slow
Medium matchup. Be careful of his stun because he can deal tons of damage if he catches you. Otherwise his jungle clear is pretty slow and you should be able to counterjungle him.

-Karthus

-Kayle

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
Medium matchup. Her jungle clear is average and has a lot of sustain. She deals a ton of damage and can slow you down.

-Kha'Zix

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Medium
Extremely easy to counterjungle. Very squishy and has little sustain in the jungle. However, he deals an unexpectedly large amount of damage, so be careful.

-Lee Sin

Counterjungle Difficulty: HARD
Jungle Clear: Average
This is one of your hardest matchups yet and will test your true skill as Shaco. He has a skill that can detect your invisiblity as a well as Q which follows to where you are and deal a ton of damage. He can be counterjungled, but I do not recommend it unless you are a top tier Shaco player or you know the other Lee Sin sucks. One Q and you are dead.

-Malphite

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Slow
Very easy to counterjungle. Clears slow and cannot kill you. Only problem would be his attack speed debuff which only annoys you.

-Maokai

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average
Very easy to counterjungle. Although he has some sustain he cannot deal enough damage to kill you and clears major buffs slow but other camps pretty fast.

-Master Yi

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average or Fast
Easy to counterjungle. His jungle clear is fast or average depending on whether his Q will do the bonus magic damage, however he cannot kill you 1v1 if it is on cooldown.

-Nautilus

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: MEDIUM
Extremely easy to counterjungle. Clears average, little sustain. Cannot kill you. Be careful of his hook though, it can slow you enough that the enemy team will catch you.

-Nocturne

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Fast
This is a pretty hard matchup. He deals a ton of damage and if you stay in his fear long enough he will clear you. He clears very fast and can shield your shiv, so be careful.

-Nunu

Counterjungle Difficulty: DIFFICULT
Jungle Clear: Fast
Although he cannot kill you, his jungle clear is extremely fast so it will be hard, if not impossible to counterjungle him. His sustain is godlike due to the heal from his consume. Very tanky early as well and his iceball will slow you down as well as slow your attack speed. Annoying as hell.

-Olaf

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear:Average
Pretty easy matchup. He has very little sustain due to the fact that one of his skills cost HP. Dodge his axes and you will be fine.

-Pantheon

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Slow
Easy matchup. He clears extremely slow and has no sustain other than the block from his shield, which is not even considered sustain at all. You can kill him very easily.

-Riven

Counterjungle Difficulty: HARD
Jungle Clear: Average
This is a very hard matchup due to the fact that she has a shield, a stun, and four semi-dashes. You cannot kill her 1v1 unless she is very low. Take caution for her dash-stun, which will result in your death if you are low enough.

-Sejuani

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Medium
She is loads tankier now due to her buffs, and her slow is annoying. However, she still deals a mediocre amount of damage so she should not be able to kill you.

-Shyvana

Counterjungle Difficulty: HARD
Jungle Clear: Fast
She clears fast and she can kill you 1v1 due to the fact that she has a skill that autoattacks twice. Be careful against this guy. Her ganks are terrible, however, so take advantage of that by ganking other lanes.

-Skarner

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average
Easy matchup. He has very little sustain and clears pretty slow. He cannot kill you 1v1 if his shield is off.

-Trundle

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
Medium matchup. He can kill you 1v1 due to his Q attack damage debuff as well as his W buff, but he clears pretty slow so take advantage of that.

-Udyr

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
Clears pretty slow and is very tanky. Take care of his turtle stance which can block your shiv damage completely and be wary of his bear stance charging at you.

-Vi

Counterjungle Difficulty: HARD
Jungle Clear: Average
Due to her nerfs she is no longer a major threat as she once was. However, she can still deal a load of damage so be careful.

-Volibear

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Average
If you want to kill him you have to go all-in, otherwise his passive will heal him back up. However, he cannot kill you and his clear is mediocre so you should be able to counterjungle him easily.

-Warwick

Counterjungle Difficulty: EASY
Jungle Clear: Slow
Very easy to counterjungle. Clears extremely slow and although he has a ton of sustain you can kill him easily.

-Xin Zhao

Counterjungle Difficulty: DIFFICULT
Jungle Clear: Average
Average matchup. Take care of his insane burst damage early and other than that he is very squishy and you can kill him if you catch him off guard.
Be careful to not get caught if you screw up, you will pay heavily by Xin Zhao's huge damage.

-Zac

Counterjungle Difficulty: MEDIUM
Jungle Clear: Average
He can't really kill you if you have your since he doesn't have any burst damage. However, he is extremely tanky and don't be surprised if you see him with full HP in the jungle. You can mess around with him a lot since he can't stop you but don't expect to kill him.

Shaco and the Jungle and the Art of Counterjungling

This is where the fun begins.

If you want to use to his maximum potential, you must learn how to counterjungle. If you want to completely dominate the jungle, you must first learn the duration of the buff respawn. This is extremely important!!

Why Counterjungle?

 • Stop the enemy jungler's experience flow
 • Prevent him from ganking for a while
 • Give your team more relief from thinking of getting ganked, allowing them to make more plays
 • Increase your own EXP and Gold
 • Make the enemy jungler more vulnerable to counterjungling

Buffs to Remember Always

Baron respawns in 7 minutes.

Dragon respawns in 6 minutes.

Blue and Red buff respawn in 5 minutes.

Remember these timers because they will be essential to counterjungling.

Early game if you are counterjungling you always will want to clear the whole camp so that you can count how much time it will take for it to respawn so that you can be there in time for it to respawn. This is the core of counterjungling; the enemy will not know when their own buff will spawn so they might be on the other side of the map and not in time to kill it.

The enemy will be so behind due to not having the exp and gold boost from his buffs that he will have to go to other lanes in order to make up for it. He will be frustrated and that makes every player happy.

Watch Out For

Wards. This is the bane of all counterjunglers. Try to find out if the enemy has warded their red or not by checking the support's items. If a ward is missing then they have probably warded it and you should not counterjungle for fear of dying.

Learn how to Smite!
 • Click on the monster you want to smite.
 • Look at how much health it has and look at how much damage your smite does.
 • Smite it when it reaches the smite damage.

If you master this then you will never miss a smite. However, it is almost impossible to master due to factors such as panic-smiting (when there are tons of enemies around and you are scared so you smite early) or getting out-smited. You will get raged upon a lot if you miss an important smite such as Dragon or Baron so practice this a lot!

With all this in mind, Let's Start!

(AUTHORS NOTE) This will be updated once I figure out Season 4 myself.

If you have successfully completed counterjungling, you will have

 • Stopped the enemy jungler's experience flow
 • Prevented him from ganking for a while
 • Giving your team more relief from thinking of getting ganked, allowing them to make more plays
 • Increase your own EXP and Gold
 • Made the enemy jungler more vulnerable to counterjungling

After this, you will want to remember the buff respawn time so that you can be there when it spawns again.

Now you can begin ganking. Enjoy!!

How to Gank

For most cases:
1)
Run behind the enemy
Set a where you think he will run away to
when he flashes.

Top Lane

Top lane is fairly simple. There are many routes you can gank from depending on what side you are on:

You will want to behind the enemy like so:

to maximize the amount of damage you can do to him.

Before you reveal yourself, however, put a behind where you think he will run away, and then attack.

It is generally better to after he has flashed to slow him down even more, since your passive from your applies when you gank.

Mid Lane

Mid lane is easy. There are many routes you can gank from depending on which side you are on:

You will want to run behind the enemy like this:

and do the same tactic as for all lanes.

IMPORTANT! IMPORTANT!

If you gank from here:

The enemy will see your puff of smoke when you Deceive so do not do that!

Instead start Deceiving from here:

and they will not see your puff of smoke.

Bot Lane

Bot lane is easy. There are many routes you can gank from depending on which side you are on:

and do the same tactic as for all lanes.

How to Dragon

Dragon is a very easy objective for due to his and . As soon as you hit 6 and have a you can begin to Dragon.

Ask your support to pink the Dragon area so that you can kill it without anyone noticing.

This is what it should look like. You are behind the dragon to kill it faster with your passive and the clone is tanking for you.

Keep putting down and whenever you can, but keep your mana high enough to in case things go wrong.

As soon as the clone is close to dying however, let it out a little so the Dragon will aggro to you and you will tank it. This is so that the clone can remain alive and deal more damage to kill the Dragon.

Smite it using the technique above.

Remember to keep the dragon timer!!

You can also gank bot, get a kill, and have the bot lane come to help you dragon safer as well too.

You also want to defend the Dragon area from any enemies by setting up boxes to let you know if they are coming.

Some useful places to put your are:

You also want to make sure that there are no people around you while you Dragon, because this will result in a teamfight which is not something excels in.

Mid Game

Typically, as , you want to make laning phase last as long as possible for you to get as many kills and jump ahead in gold and levels. However, when outer turrets are destroyed and people are suddenly starting to teamfight and contest Dragon, that is an indicator of the early game transitioning into mid game.

Mid game is where you should have your Core all set and be deciding which item route to take. Is your top laner a squishy (which, by the way, you should not have picked in the first place)? Go the tank route so you can join teamfights. Have the most ideal team ever? Master Shaco it is!

Farm and Take Objectives!!

As stated before, needs to farm because his build is very expensive. You cannot assassinate the AD carry with only . The jungle is not enough to provide gold for Shaco's item builds. Go to lanes and take the wave there if your teammates are not there already.

is efficient at taking Dragon very quickly. If you ganked mid or bot and killed the enemy, gather your team around for Dragon for a huge global gold lead.

Take turrets! The more turrets you get, the easier it is to force objectives and take map control.

Despite popular belief can teamfight to a certain extent. As soon as the teamfight occurs, wait for major skills to be used such as ult and

A) Jump into the fray and kill the AD carry
B) Peel for your AD carry with and

As always you should W and E whenever possible, the person who is the most threat at the time.

Shaco Rule of Thumb!

If you are on the enemy side and your is not on cooldown, you are doing something wrong!

Always put your down whenever you can in places that enemies might tread on. It's a free Explorer ward and can sometimes be the deciding factor in teamfights!

Late Game

Late game you are an absolute monster. However, this point of the game is pivotal in your victory or defeat. is at his squishiest because he has built all AD items with no survivability, meaning the AP casters can burst him down very quickly.

Know your potential. You can literally kill the AD carry in three hits in teamfights, but you must have extreme map awareness. Enemy team used all of their stuns? in behind the enemy carry and let and do the work.

On another note, you can also delay teamfights by splitpushing top or bot. If you know your composition is unsuitable for teamfighting, pressure the lanes so that it is delayed. With a , I can not think of any champion that can 1v1 if they happen to send one bot.

After you have secured kills and/or gotten Baron push and win the game.

How to Baron

Baron is a game-maker monster, to say the least. Killing it grants a ton of gold and a great buff to your whole team. With a whole kit, Shaco can solo it easily with his and , but usually the game does not go on this long. Late game is when you want to ward Baron constantly and teamfight to gain an advantage. Baron whenever possible, for example if there is an enemy bot you can send your team to Baron because it will be a 4v5 if the enemy team tries to stop you. You do not want to use your to kill Baron when the enemy team is alive. Instead, use it as a ward to see if they are coming. Some useful spots to place it would be:

Use the same tactic to kill Baron like you do with Dragon; make the Clone tank it (unless the tank on your team is fighting it too) and send it out when it is getting too low so it does not get killed and it can deal more damage.

As always, remember to keep the timer!!

Messed up? Bouncing back.

Many times will be useless if he fails his counterjungling or gets invaded early. This can mess up his lead heavily. However, there are still some things you can do to make use for your team.

Splitpush

If you are behind you will want to go with the Splitpush route.

is one of the strongest split pushers in the game. He has the ability to kill turrets quickly and escape the enemy's attempt to try and stop you. However, split pushing takes a lot of skill and quick thinking to pull off successfully.

Do not splitpush until you have at least one item from the Splitpush route. Otherwise you will be clearing one wave in around 10 seconds which is a long time.

Before you split push, you want to think about these:
 • Can your team turtle and clear waves if the enemy team tries to push?
 • Do you have enough wards to ensure safety from ganks?

Make sure the answers to these questions are yes before you decide to split push.

Which Lane?

You generally do not want to splitpush mid because that is the most dangerous lane to splitpush.

Push top if baron is up so you can be there in case the enemy tries to rush it.
Otherwise, push bot because its the easiest to find out if they are coming or not so you can escape. If the enemy manages to kill you, they will likely be too far away to force baron and with you distracting them your team can grab an easy baron.

Setting Up

Make sure your team knows what you are doing before you start to splitpush. Tell your team "Hey I am going to splitpush top/bot do not make any stupid mistakes or try to engage" so that they will not make any stupid mistakes and try to engage.

Ward around the area that you are going to splitpush so that you can away in case the enemy comes. Put down boxes too so that they will fear the enemy and give you more time to run away.

IMPORTANT! If you are going to splitpush bot make sure that the enemy will not baron or engage right away. It will be a while before the enemy will think "Hey Shaco is near our tower we should send someone to spot him" which gives the enemy opportunities to force a fight or get Baron.

Gank Gank Gank

If you are behind you will put yourself even more behind if you jungle because Shaco clears jungles very slowly midgame. One of the best things to do is to gank gank gank and exert map pressure onto the enemy team. This will put your team ahead even if you are behind, giving you a better chance to win the game.

Counterjungling, Farming, and Ganking; The Holy Trinity

Many times a will gank numerous times but ends up being level 9 by 20 minutes. Many times a will just farm the jungle in hopes of getting his core quicker but his team gets wrecked by the enemy jungler.
Many times a will counterjungle the whole game but ends up not even taking his own jungle which results in just a regular jungle route, nothing more.

This section will teach you how to balance all three of it to ensure maximum profit.

But not now.

Is Shaco OP?

No

Beautiful Korean, I keep losing even when I use your guide!

Do not be discouraged!

You are playing one of the most difficult champions in League of Legends. 's gamestyle is quite unorthodox, and requires a ton of practice to fully master.
Items and knowing how to jungle and set down boxes correctly is only a small part of playing . You are not where all you have to do is press R and run around and people are dead. You are not where you just roll your face against the keyboard and score a pentakill. You are playing Shaco.

Truly learning how to play is not just learning from a guide. requires quick-thinking, skill, and finesse in order to play to his full potential.

Do not get depressed if you go on a 10-loss streak with . I know I have gone on numerous lose streaks. Rather, think of it as though you have learned something new each time you lost. What went wrong? What should I have done? How could I have done this better? Did I balance farming, counterjungling, and ganking? There are many lessons to be learned in one game, and since you know what went wrong your next game will be better.

If you keep playing , I guarantee you it will pay off in the long run. You will learn how to play the hardest champion, and also have great knowledge of the jungle itself.

deserves to be treated right and caressed attentively.

All into Action

Here I will post replays of me playing vs eventually every jungler in the game. Keep in mind you will have to download LoLReplay to view these! Some of these are outdated so the builds may be off but still give a good indepth explanation as to what I do and when.

Due to LoLReplay being broken lately, I cannot upload videos anymore. However, when it comes back up, you will see this section updated with fresh new matchups!

Final Notes

is an extremely fun champion to play. He is the hardest champion to master in the game and practicing him will pay off. He is the only reason why I love to play League of Legends and I love to make the enemy rage. I hope this guide has taught you how to play Shaco and hopefully will raise your elo.

See you on the Fields of Justice, and make the enemy team rage!

Fuck my comment below, im back to sucess. But B.K. , why do we rush shiv? AS / CRIT arent that effective with low AD. once you proc a shiv, you are not going to do anything else in fights. + its pushing power received a huge nerf. btw, now that I changed my build, please tell me, why do we even build attackspeed. I have tested around with triforce / hydra / IE / lw and such, and I feel like AS somehow became useless, and it makes sense to me. like, WHY do we need attackspeed on shaco ? Lets say we would have gone for a triforce-flat dmg build, what would happen after triforce ? We wouldn't need attackspeed we have crazy burst(Q +the crit + backstab, triforce + ignite + E) and only need few hits. we are not going to out dmg adc's etc, and we are melee. bursting them down is the way to go. triforce builds out of 3 parts which build out of other parts, its like we can grab one by one if we only have 400g on base. while we need 3 expensive parts on IE (lets farm 1500 gold for bf sword gg)BTW: backstab increases the sheen proc doesnt it ? this guide has definitly done very well in season 3, but now ... idk. botrk is still good if you want to baron tho. another thing, dorans blades. how are you fast enough at clearing buffs, especially when counterjungling enemy buffs? you spent (440 + 440 + 900 (+475 homeguard) + 2500) 4280/4755 gold and cant clear buffs. + now in this current meta it is hard to splitpush, current top laners are too strong in 1v1s for a shaco :<. please tell me what you think about it and keep the guide updated, it did great.

Greetings

Yo beautiful korean :3

I have mained shaco now since s2, I used your guide s3 and improved from bronze to plat with it :<, HOWEVER when I keep using your guide I feel useless. So fking slow clear time with dor blades impossible to steal buffs in time, the jungle items suck tho. shiv and botrk feel like they do no dmg anymore, enemy jungler has more gold than me by simply farming jungle and I end up useless for fights no matter how ahead my laners got. it feels like 4v5. seriously, shiv does 0 dmg somehow now, and I dont want to tell how horrible it is when I'm still at zeal and didnt complete shiv yet. I feel like I do 0,0 dmg before IE, seriously. What should I do ? Once enemy groups I am auto useless, doing no dmg, even if we were ahead, we just throw because its a 4v5 with me doing no dmg with a dmg build ._. I have tried many things, and I just keep losing and losing ._. thoughts ? :/

Hi i was just wondering i just picked shaco up but since Movespeed is pretty important on him and 3% damage reduction isnt to much on 2000 damage its only like 60 damage i tried going 21/6/3 so put the 3 points in utility for 1.5% speed so with runes it goes to 6% speed increase and you only really lose out on 24 health :P

February 5, 2014 - 11:35 PM #8

Dont you need some as runes for the E proc or do you mostly tank those attacks with your boxes?

January 31, 2014 - 12:27 PM #9

I really like starting machete and 5x health pots for better sustain in the jungle. It might make your ganks less effecient but if your ganks do fail, you can have a rough time catching up. I usually build spirit stone and boots as my first back - the new spirit stone gives awesome sustain.

I haven't upgraded spirit stone yet as I like to rush tiamat -> ravenous hydra for even better jungle clear.

Mobility vs. Berserker boots? I feel I have an easier time reaching my target while decieved with mobility boots and if you end up going the split push route or just want more burst, you can sell your mobility boots for berserker late game.
You'll be 300g shorter than if you went straight for berserker greaves but the mobility boots might have secured a gank or two.
