Champion Matchups

Introduction

Hello! Welcome to my in-depth Blitzcrank Duo Bruiser guide! The first point I would like to make clear is that we are not building him TRUE bruiser, but instead, we are building him in such a manner that it makes you strong, and the rest of your team benefits as well. With that being said, I urge you to read the entire guide for item explanation and strategy information. Enjoy!

IMPORTANT NOTE
If you're gonna play Blitzcrank in ranked, make sure you use iBlitzcrank. That shit's OP. No seriously, nobody can see his , and you just wreck!

Masteries

When building Bruiser Blitzcrank, I like to take AD Caster masteries. This may seem a bit unorthodox, but that is because it is! I do not think that Blitzcrank was ever meant to be a true support, and these masteries insure that he is played just like a bruiser. At some points in the game, you may even have mor AD than your Carry! If you prefer to take 4 points in Sorcery than in Fury, that's fine, but this final build has 40% CDR anyway, so i see it more useful to get the little extra attack speed, which goes great with. We'll get into more detail regarding that soon!

Runes

Typical AD runes is the way to go! Since we're not building support, I recommend AD Marks. Considering Blitzcrank will be bot lane, you are mose likely to be against another ADC. For this, I recommend Flat Armour Yellows. Finally, since you are not likely to be against very much AP bot lane, I recommend Scaling Magic Resist Blues. These will scale off well into late game, and will eventually give you tons of MR!

Summoner Spells

Explanation:
We are playing bruiser style here, but as I stated previously, we will still be trying to play like a support as well. It is EXTREMELY BENEFICIAL to take , especially for early game baits and turns! If an enemy is persueing you and your ADC, try to get to your tower, quickly turn and use and the chasing target will take turret agro. This almost 100% of the time ensures a kill for the ADC.

Also, mid and late game, heal can be used to aid your team in team fights. Since Blitzcrank doesn't have any kind of AoE heal, this helps A LOT. Very frequently i find myself in a situation where a quick summoner heal turns a team fight around.

is also a viable summoner spell for going bruiser. Mid and late game, Blitzcrank is great for split pushing, so being able to teleport to a minion at an enemy tower may enable you to puch up to 2 turrets and occasionally, an inhibitor!

Skills

Passive: Mana Barrier
Mana Barrier is Blitzcrank's passive and is EXTREMELY IMPORTANT. When playing blitzcrank, this ability is the reason that instead of stacking health, you stack Mana. This creates a shield AUTOMATICALLY once your health drops below a certain percentage, and will save you many times. The shield is equivalent to half of your current mana, but does not actually use mana, which is very useful. This passive allows you to fool the enemy, especially late game when you have tons of mana from ,, and , your shield could be anywhere up to 1500! Getting the enemy team to target you, which they almost always will because you SEEM squishy, will allow the rest of your team to freely attack.

Q: Rocket Grab
Rocket Grab is the ability that gets Blitzcrank banned in low-elo. Haha! One perception about playing Blitzcrank is that you HAVE to be good at landing your pulls to be a good Blitzcrank, which is not entirely true. But if you CAN land your pulls frequently, you become the biggest threat to hit summoner's rift since Phreak. Although you have to make sure you don'y pull the wrong person! Many Blitzcrank players try to pull any champion, but it is a bad idea to pull champions like , , , , , , and various others. Make sure you know who you are pulling! Make sure to Max this ability SECOND for the damage out put. Usually if you are laning with high damage ADC's such as , , or , one pull plus , along with attacks from your ADC, will be more than enough to take out any squishy champ. Don't forget to aim your shots!

W: Overdrive
Overdrive is Blitzcrank's attack/movement speed buff. This ability is GREAT for chasing. I like to take this ability at level 3 and max it immediately, because as you level it up, the movement speed buff and the attack speed buff increases. This ability is useful if you are not the best at landing a pull because you can still get to an enemy champion and them. And when they try to run afterward, they usually run in a straight line, which enables you to much easier.

E: Power Fist
Power Fist is Blitzcrank's second form of hard crowd control. Along with knocking up the opponent, it also deals damage equal to DOUBLE your current AD. I take this at level 2, but max it last due to the only thing changing as you level it up is the cool-down. This ability along with proves to be a hard counter to champions with no means of escape such as and . This starts to do INSANE damage once you have and GODLIKE damage with .
Don't forget to use on turrets!

R: Static Field
Static Field is Blitzcrank's ultimate ability, and is on a VERY short cool-down. This ability's high base damage allows Blitzcrank to farm waves in seconds, and push a lane at insane speeds. Mid game, i like to travel off with Blitz and try to get a couple towers destroyed, and get a decent amount of farm at the same time. In a decently long game with blitz (about 40 mins.) I'll end up with around 200 cs, which helps significantly with more tower pushing, bruiser items, and support items for team fights.

This ability can also be timed right to stop ultimates that could be devastating to your team suck as , , , and .

Item Builds

Due to Blitzcrank's Passive, the best build is one heavy in Mana. Always start with , along with wards and health potions. On your first recall, IMMEDIATELY build . This will later be build in to a , which is later upgraded into .

The Significance of Muramana
Is entirely a late game item, and is VERY important on bruiser Blitz. First, a little information about Muramana. Muramana is an upgraded form of Manamune. Stacks on the manamune can max out at 750, and once it hits max stacks, it automatically upgrades into muramana. Muramana gives 1000 mana. We build a muramana because of it's toggle. Then toggled, the muramana drains 4% of your current mana, and doubles it, which is added as damage to your auto attacks and single target abilities , .

What does this mean for you? More Mana = More Damage.

That is why we also build , which provides the proc from the sheen, that adds double damage PLUS the damage from muramana PLUS an AoE slow.

I build boots of mobility on bruiser Blitzcrank for high mobility, of course! It enables him to quickly get from pushing a tower on one side of the map, to a team fight on the other.

Build a frozen heart for TONS of armour, an aura that renders the enemie's ADC useless, and Sustain.

into for magic resist, armour, and a great aura for your team.

Once you're at this point in the game, I prefer to ask my team which Item they want next, , , or zekes-herald. All three of these items are extremely useful, and contain , which gives great CDR!

Early Game

Early game as bruiser Blitzcrank, your play-style is generally support. You are not supposed to take cs from the ADC because you'll have plenty of time to do this mid-game, but once you have your tear, power-fist a minion once in a while to gain stacks on the tear. If you have a manamune, just auto-attack them here and there.

Mid Game/Late Game

By the time Late Game roles along, you become an absolute monster. If you have anything between 2000 and 2500 mana, your muramana damage will be CRAZY and the sheen proc will dominate.

Synergies

I've found that some champions that work very well with certain champions and not so well with others. Blitzcrank mainly does well with champs (keep in midn that I am referring to the laning phase in this section) who do high early game damage, or champions that have crowd control. Keep in mind that really, most champions go well with Blitzcrank, so if you do not see a champion on this list, that doesn't mean it's bad, it just means I have not tested it enough, or I forgot!

Champions That Work Well With Blitzcrank
This one is an oldie but goldie! A very fun bot lane combo where either Alistar can become the Carry, or Blitzcrank can be the Carry!

Ashe's high level 1 damage combined with her crit passive can easily lead to an early kill, or even a level 1 kill!

Caitlyn's passive also works well with Blitzcrank, especially if you want a heavy poke lane. This is a popular strategy on the Asian circuit because of their playstyle (ending the laning phase as early as possible).

Draven is probably one of THE BEST synergies to blitzcrank because of his extremely high damage. Against a squishy ADC like or , then a combo along with Draven's damage can almost instakill.

Ezreal's AD burst along with Blitzcrank's burst is great for damage, and crowd controlling the opponent allows for easy damage and great burst.

The very underplayed and underestimated AD Kennen goes PERFECT with Blitzcrank and other crowd control champions such as , , and .

Great damage, great burst, and Blitzcrank can do a great job at "Protecting the Kog'Maw.

Ms. Fortune's high range, soft cc, and decent damage, Blitzcrank and MF make a great poking combination.

This combination does SO much damage that most bot lanes just leave.

Varus' soft CC and high damage works very well.

Vayne is one of the best match-ups with Blitzcrank IF VAYNE IS NOT COUNTERED. Vayne is easily countered by champions with a large auto attack range, while she has the lowest of ADC's. She has very high damage, and combined with a , vayne can dash behind them and push them back even further. Great combo.

Champions That Do Not Work Well with Blitzcrank
Corki's damage out put just doesn't hold you to those of other champions. His burst which he mainly relies on isn't that great either. Any high damage champ can take him out easily. I'd try to stay away from this combination if avoidable.

Teemo has fallen out of being a playable ADC. Mainly he solo tops, and should stay there. The ward coverage is useful with his shrooms, but his DMG isn't that great. Going AP Teemo bot could work, but is not generally accepted. Try to avoid ADC teemo.

Tristana is bad and should feel bad (OPINION!) I've only ever played with a VERY VERY VERY small number of Tristanas who though the strategy was to rocket jump into certain death. Maybe Tristana is great with Blitzcrank when put in the right hands, but from my experience, I've concluded that ADC Tristana is bad. Try AP instead.

Champions That Blitzcrank Counters

Blitzcrank is a great way to counter many champions. Mainly, he is used to counter champions with no means of escape, and are extremely susceptible to hard crowd control. If a champion is CC'd with no escapes, most likely, that is a free kill for your ADC, which is always nice. In this guide, I'm only going to refer to ADC's, but the gist of it is Blitzcrank counters champions with no escapes.

Champions Blitzcrank Counters
Ashe is generally squishy, and her only mean of escape is a slow, or if lvl 6, her ult, which only slows for a very short amount of time if used at close range.

Draven's downfall is his susceptibility to Hard Crowd Control. To make up for his extreme damage, he has no means of escape from or .

Kog'Maw also has no means of escape, just a slow. He is also generally squishy, and early game, can be dominated by a heavy damage bot combo (such as Draven and Blitzcrank).

Varus has no means of escape and is easily effected by CC.

Champions That Counter Blitzcrank

Not many champions counter Blitzcrank! He is a very good all around champion, with 3 hard crowd controls, and a massive speed boost. Mainly, the only way to counter Blitzcrank is to hard crowd control him, or pick a champion that is unaffected by his abilities.

Champions That Counter Blitzcrank
Ahri can be a pain for Blitzcrank due to her ultimate that allows her to freely avoid him, and her charm which renders Blitzcrank useless for several seconds.

NEVER PULL AN ALISTAR! Alistar also has some hard crowd control. His pulvarize can be used to knock up your entire team and his headbutt can be used to single out an important target such as the ADC. Try to avoid pulling him!

Same tip for Alistar. DON'T PULL AN AMUMU! If Amumu's ult is up, he can serve as a great initiate for a teamfight, and snare your entire team. It could turn a potential winning team fight into an instant loss. Be careful who you pull!

In the laning phase, Ezreal can be a pain for Blitzcrank, due to his ability to blink away from an incoming , or away from a successful pull. His blink is on a cooldown similar to that of .

Leona is just as useful as Blitzcrank. Pulling either one can be fatal. For instance, pulling a Leona is a bad idea considering she has 3 stuns, and can be a great initiate to a team fight.

NEVER PULL A MALPHITE! His ult can initiate a teamfight!

Her ult can initiate a teamfight!

His ult can initiate a teamfight!

Sivir can be a problem in the laning phase due to her spell shield. She can block your pull, and will be awarded for it with bonus mana. Make sure to catch here by suprise!

Final Comments

Thanks for viewing my Blitzcrank guide! I'd like to first say that I think this is one of the most effective ways to play Blitzcrank. He becomes a tower pusher, a bruiser, a support, and someone who coule EASILY 1v1 the enemy ADC. Bruiser Blitzcrak is too Stronk!

I highly recommend playing Blitzcrank this way. It is the most effective, and the most fun! I hope you enjoyed this guide, and I hope you enjoy stomping on randoms. Have fun, keep calm, and build a manamune.

This is the worst guide I've ever seen, nothing in this guide can be taken seriously.
