Champion Matchups

Introduction

Zed is the absoulte anti-carry.Not enough that his kit fits the playstyle of an Assassin so well, he also looks like a big badass Assassin!

His ability to simply snipe someone on the enemy team and get out afterwards is not comparable to any other champion. He is able to bully the opponent laner like no one else and snowballs incredibly hard. You can always pick him since he can farm on anyone with his Shadow and Shuriken means that he has no real counter.

The ability to roam around past6 with his ultimate is also amazingly strong and you can help out your teammates while the jungler covers your lane. Zed also makes it possible to completely turn around a lost game with his ability to take out the fed enemy carry no matter how many items he has. There is almost no way to defend a carry from Zed.

To sum all this up we can say that Zed is actually the ultimatie assassin with the ability to stand against every team-composition and lane opponent.

TL;DR ZED OP NERF PLS

Base Stats:
Health 448(+85)
Health Regeneration 6.0(+0.65)
Energy 200
Energy Regeneration 50
Attack-Range 125
Attack Damage 48.6(+3.4)
Attack Speed 0.658(+3.1%)

Magic Resistance 30(+1.25)
Base Movement Speed 345

PRO:
  • High Burst Damage

  • Huge Zone Ability

  • Build-In Escape

  • Awesome ultimate to lane gank and roam around

  • Easy to dodge important skillshots with his shadows

  • Incredible Wave-clear

  • Comparable to a Hypercarry lategame

  • No Mana Pool

CON:

  • Very item-dependent

  • Pretty squishy and weak against Toplaner who stack hp

  • High skill dependent; you get punished really hard for misplacing your shadow's and abilities

Who am I?

I'm Blowly and I play mainly Top-Lane on EU-W.
When Zed came out I was really skeptical about him since no one picked him up.But when I did, I soon realized how strong and underrated this Champion actually is.

I started playing at the end of Season1 and played my first ranked games there.

Season 2 I accomplished to reach the 2K-Elo mark which was a huge achievement for me.

Note that this guide is by far not completet.

Masteries

For Zed I only use one set of masteries:

Offensive Tree:

1 Point in Summoner's Wrath to get the additional 5 Attack Damage from the Ignite; self-explaining.

1 Point in Fury since Zed is not that much of an autoattack-dependend champion and doesn't need additional Attack-speed at all.

4 Points in Sorcery to get the additional 4% Cooldownreduction. It is pretty useful on Zed since he is an energy-based champion means that he can spam his abilities, also you want as much CDR as possible for your ultimate to be on low cooldown.

4 Points in Deadliness for the scaling Attack Damage, also self-explaining
1 Point in Weapon Expertise is one of the essential points you want to reach in the Offensive Tree.
Your physical damage ignores 8% of the enemy's armor(!!!).Zed's damage ressources are complete physical damage except his passive.

3 Points in Havoc to increase all your damage done by 2%.Since you don't build any crit on Zed you won't need the further masteries to improve your critical damage. You also want to unlock the further tree.

2 Points in Brute Force for 3 Attack Damage

3 Points in Sunder for 5 Armor Penetration.

1 Point in Butcher or Destruction to unlock Executioner.

1 Point in Executioner to deal 5% increased Damage to Targets below 50% Health. This is a pretty nice addition to Zed's passive and his kit overall. He is going to drop his targets really fast under 50% and this actually just boosts his Damage-potential even further.

Defensive Tree:

4 Points in Durability for additional scaling health.Pretty useful to survive against initial burst in teamfights later on.

4 Points in Hardiness for 5 Armor. You are going to play against Toplaner and there are mostly Physical-damage based champions.

1 Point in Resistance for 2 Magic Resistance to unlock Veteran's Scar.

1 Point in Veteran's Scar to get the additional 30 Health. That is really important for your survivability on the Toplane since Zed has a average Health-pool and HP is a pretty much broken stat right now.

Runes

The choice on Zed's runeset is not that big.He has huge AD Ratios and we have to take advantage of that.

Quintessences: 3x Greater Quintessence of Attackdamage (+2.25)
Glyphs: 9x Greater Glyph of Magicresistance (+1.34)
Seals: 9x Greater Seals of Armor (+1.41)
Marks: 9x Greater Mark of Attackdamage (+0.95)

I pretty much only use this rune setup on Zed.It is also possible to go Armor-Penetration Marks on him but it is definitely not worth it since you are going to build ArmPen and your huge Ratios like I mentioned multiple times yet.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

This actually is the most common Toplane-summonerspell setup and I think it should be the only one you should use on Zed.

Flash is pretty much necessary on an Assassin like Zed since he need the escape. You can argue that you already have enough escape with your Shadow's but I think it's not worth it to trade Flash for another aggressive Summoner-spell like or .

Thats pretty cheesy in my opinion and sometimes people won't expect it and will get baited but if you are going to play on a certain level you will soon realize that people will play around that and are not that deceivable anymore.

Also you won't have any chance to escape after you misplaced or used your shadow so keep that in mind if you want to play some other Summonerspell-setups.

Zed's Skillset

Passive: Contempt for the Weak
Whenever Zed autoattacks an enemy below 50% health, he deals an additional 6 / 8 / 10% of their maximum health as magic damage. This effect cannot occur on the same target more than once every 10 seconds.

His passive really shines in lane when you do huge trade-offs. It is an additional chunk in MAGIC DAMAGE when your opponent gets low. This also allows you to surprise your enemy with unexpected burst.
This means you should always try to poke your opponent and if he gets low enough you can try to all-in him.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

Q-Skill: Razor Shuriken
Active: Zed and his shadows throw their shurikens, each dealing physical damage to the first enemy they pass through and a lesser amount to enemies thereafter.
Damage to first target: 75 / 110 / 145 / 180 / 215 (100% bonus AD)
Damage to secondary targets: 60 / 88 / 116 / 144 / 172 (+80% bonus AD)

Living Shadow: Additional shurikens striking the same enemy deal 50% damage and restore energy.
Shadow Shurikens: 37.5 / 55 / 72.5 / 90 / 107.5 (+50% bonus AD)

This skill is Zed's harass-ability.It allows him in the first levels to poke his opponent and to farm from a safe position.Once you have your Shadow, it also adds some more damage if you hit both your and the shadows shuriken which chunks pretty hard.

Dont forget that it costs you much energy on the early ranks means that you shouldn't use it to poke past5 when you got your E level 3 and you can't hit both shurikens to restore energy. Else you are out of energy for a moment and your opponent gets an easy engage on you.

Don't even max it against ranged champions!IT'S NOT WORTH IT
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

W-Skill: Living Shadow
Passive: Zed's bonus attack damage is increased by a percentage.
Additional Bonus Attack-Damage: 5 / 10 / 15 / 20 / 25%
Active: Zed's shadow dashes forward, remaining in place for 4 seconds. Reactivating this ability will cause Zed to switch positions with this shadow.
Zed's shadow will mimic his basic abilities. If both strike the same target Zed regains some energy. Energy can only be restored once per mimicked ability.
Energy Restored: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40

This is the ability that makes Zed unique. It copies your abilities for the same damage. This is the point that most people forget. They just walk into your shadow and take 1-2 E's for free, that's just a HUGE free harass.

It also gives you so much utility. You can use it to chase people down, to jump over walls and to reach your target in teamfights.

This is the part of Zed that takes the most skill in my opinion. In the heat of the battle you have to manage your escape-ability with your shadows. When you jump in with your W, you just have your Flash as escape left. That means you should never randomly use your W to gapclose to your target, you should always keep it to escape after your ultimate and you killed your opponent or to chase him further to finish him off.

Also dont forget that if you hit both Zed's and his Shadow's ability, you restore some energy.

TIP: When you harass your enemy in lane with your shadow, try to switch the position in the last second to get an autoattack with your passive off. Many people don't expect that if you really do that in the last second and they walk a little back.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

E-Skill: Shadow Slash

Active: Zed and his shadows create a burst of shadow, dealing physical damage to nearby enemies.

Zed's slash reduces the cooldown of Living Shadow by 1 second for each enemy struck. His shadows' slashes slow enemies for 1.5 seconds.
Physical Damage: 60 / 95 / 130 / 165 / 200 (+80% bonus AD)
Slow: 20 / 25 / 30 / 35 / 40%

Living Shadow: Overlapping Shadow Slashes striking the same enemy deal no additional damage but will incur an increased slow and restore energy.
Overlapping Slow: 30 / 37.5 / 45 / 52.5 / 60%

This is Zed's bread and butter skill. While it is just a small AoE in melee-range, your shadow also copies it for the same damage. Since it is on a low cooldown, you can hit your opponent two times with your E while the Shadow is up. The low cooldown on this skill makes it actually impossible for opponents to go into a longer damage trade-off in the early levels.

You can also clear entire creep-waves with your shadow and a Q-E combo.

Don't forget that it slows your opponent with the shadow, so if you chase someone try to hit him first with the Shadow's E and then switch positions.

Another very important point is that it reduces your W cooldown for each enemy(Champions and Creeps) you hit with your E(only with Zed, not the Shadow). If you don't switch your position with the Shadow, it doesn't go on cooldown means that you should think twice about when to switch position to get the Shadow back up with your E as soon as possible. Never use it if you are in danger to get ganked, rather safe it since it's your escape.
________________________________________________________________________________________________________

R-Skill: Death Mark
Active: Zed becomes untargetable and dashes to target enemy champion. Upon arrival, he marks the target for death and spawns a living shadow behind the target. This shadow lasts 4 seconds and mimics Zed's abilities. Reactivating Death Mark will cause Zed to switch positions with this shadow.

After 3 seconds, the mark will detonate, dealing physical damage equal to 100% of Zed's attack damage plus a percentage of all magic and physical damage dealt to the target by Zed and his shadows while the mark was active.
Bonus Physical Damage: 100% total AD + 20 / 35 / 50% of damage dealt

This is the ability that makes Zed such a scary opponent and assassin. You become untargetable for around 1 second while you dash to your target so you can dodge important damage-ressources of your opponent when you time it well.

It is also an additional gap-closer to your target so you don't need to use your W for that.
Important here is that you shouldn't forget that it places a shadow behind your targets location. This is pretty helpful against opponents with stealth ability but also to switch position with the Shadow if you went too deep on your target.

Furthermore it's pretty nice to outplay people with the two Shadow's you have. You can imagine that there are some pretty nice juke-possibilities while it's actually really exhausting for your opponent to catch you.

The damage you do with this ultimate is not that high without your Core-Items.
I always try to use it when I hit 6 to trade with my opponent. The cooldown is not that high and you can actually force most people out of the lane with the damage you've dealt so that he's gonna lose some creeps to the tower.
But be careful if you use it against champions like or because they are even stronger than you with their ultimate. Only try that if you have the level advantage on them.

The actual usage of this ability is to gank and roam. I tend to gank the Midlane once I finished my Black Cleaver or BotRK.
The damage you do at this time to a target without armor is devastating so that you are simply going to one-shot most midlaners. Even if they flash away you should be able to catch them and finish them off.

Skill Order

> > >

R > E > Q > W

The reason behind that is that you get the most damage out of skilling your E first. The high base-damage and the low cooldown exceed the damage of skilling Q by far.It might not do as much damage if you just hit one E compared to a double Shuriken from Zed and his Shadow, but most of the time you are going to hit two E's.Then the trade-off is way better.

W is maxed last because it does its job at level 1.You just skill it later for the additional bonus attack-damage and lower energy cost.

Most of the times I actually skill my E level 1 when I do wraiths before going to lane. Also it's pretty awesome to push up the lane so you get level 2 early and try to all-in the opponent or to just play hyper aggressive.

Even against ranged champions you are better off maxing the E first. You can shit on them and just get jungle camps with skilling e first and constantly push up the lane to get that level and creep advantage so you can punish them for harassing you. Most of the time this method is more efficient if the enemy jungler isn't too dangerous when you are constantly pushing. F.e. against Lee Sin it's not the best thing to stay at enemies tower the whole time because you are most likely getting camped and punished for that so be aware of the jungler!

Item Builds

elixir-of-fortitude health-potion4 sight-ward

You always want to start with those items regardless you are mid or top.

The elixir is pretty common to start with at the toplane since it adds you alot of stats for the early game, especially for Zed because of his huge ratios. It makes his shadow poke even stronger.
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Core Items: blade-of-the-ruined-king the-black-cleaver

Those both items provide you everything you want. The is pretty much a must-have item on Zed but I always recommend you to build it first.

The utility from the active is huge. While it also adds damage to your Death Mark, it really helps you chasing down the opponent or escaping from a gank. Don't underestimate the active since it also gives you movementspeed.
Anyway, the damage you deal with that item on squishy targets and health-stacker is hilarious. The only weakness is that you are pretty much boned against people who build armor and health in combination if they f.e. rush .
_________________________________________________________________________________________________

AGAINST STRONG EARLY LANER: dorans-blade the-brutalizer

When you are facing laners like Elise or Nidalee whose are pretty strong laner in general with poke lasting harass-damage you ALWAYS want to buy a first before you pick up your Brutalizer. The simple reason is that you need the sustain.

Against hard push/all-in champions like Darius and Renekton I would recommend to rather pick up a Doran's first of all. Simple reason is that you need the HP to not get chunked out of lane and to increase your survivability if they set up ganks on your since they can cover them well with their kit.

It might also be possible to get 2 Doran's Blade but it's pretty much just gold wasting.Zed is really dependent on his core items and that's why you shouldn't waste too much gold into early-game advantage items since Zed can ALWAYS farm with his Shadow.Once you get your Black-Cleaver, you can start to bully your opponent and to roam around and pick up easy kills. But if you realize you are just boned to the tower waiting to get dived get 2 Dorans.

AGAINST EVERYONE ELSE: boots-of-speed the-brutalizer

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

Once you have your core-items you want to optimize your kill potential to the maximum.
Pick up ionian-boots-of-lucidity for the CDR. You want to have your ultimate on low CD.

Another possibility is or but they are situational.

When your team doesn't have a strong front-line: warmogs-armor /
You also buy this item when you are ahead of your opponents since you already got enough damage to kill everyone with your core-items.

More Damage: the-bloodthirster last-whisper

Zed is not dependent on Resistance or Health-items. His build-in escapes are without comparison and you can simply just go in with your ultimate , DUNK someone , and get out without any problem. But this requires you to be entirely confident with your shadow mechanics and is pretty difficult to do so that my advise is that you get Warmog's first after your Core-items.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

BOOTS EHCHANTMENT: enchantment-homeguard enchantment-furor

There are two different cases on which your enchantment depends. When you and your team are pretty much losing the game and you get pushed to base continously you ALWAYS want the Homeguard's.
Else you get the Furor Enchantment. It's pretty awesome to stick to people and to chase them down with your shadow.

_________________________________________________________________________________________________

You always tend to those 6 items at the end:
ionian-boots-of-lucidity the-black-cleaver blade-of-the-ruined-king warmogs-armor the-bloodthirster last-whisper

With your bonus 25% AD you are going to have around 550 AD with Red elixir. That means you are gonna lifesteel crazy amounts. Also there is no escape for the enemy squishy's from the mighty Zed!

The Top-Lane

As a Top-Laner, I'm only going to introduce the Top-Lane matchups.
In my opinion you can also play Zed Midlane but I think at the Top-Lane Zed delivers the best.

So, first-off there is no real counter to Zed like I said earlier in the Guide. But there are quite some harsh match-ups for him.

ALWAYS START

Irelia is a classic Top-lane matchup. Against Zed she is not the worst champion to pick. When you just let her get level's she is going to beat you due to her natural scaling and her true-damage.
So your goal is to denie her experience and bully her out of the lane ASAP.You go aggressive once you hit level 2 and poke her continously with your Shadow. That should be enough to either kill her when she is out of healthpotions with level 5 or to denie her really hard under the tower.
The golden rule is to keep her low enough so that she can't engage on you with her W. If she can you are most likely going to lose the trade hard. When she jumps at you, just try to get away with your Shadow.
After she hits level 9 and the lane is equal or just a little in your favor, you stand no chance beating her if she builds HP/Armor. Now your goal is it to just push the lane with your Shadow QE combo and to roam mid/botlane.

Darius is the biggest asshole on the toplane. If he does it right you are not going to do anything to him. He is just going to push you to the tower and you gotta farm. The only thing you can do here is to harass him with your shadow but never actually get close to him unless you get ganks.
The goal here is to survive until you got your . Principle you are going to do the same as in the Irelia matchup. Push up the lane with your shadow and go roam. The only difference here is that he can just beat you the whole time so don't even try to go melee against him. If he hooks you past6 while you don't have your shadow say goodbye or life.

Renekton is a quite doable lane. You can always poke him with your shadow and if he tries to engage on you with Slice and Dice, just use your shadow to get away and get some free damage on him.
The only problem here is that you can't really outpush him. He is going to push you to your tower to get that experience-advantage for a short time. That means that he is going to hit level 3 or 4 a little bit earlier than you. Don't make the mistake to trade with him when he got that level advantage.
With level 6 you should've poked him to pretty low health. That is the only chance you are going to have in case of killing him. Unless he got more than 50% of his health you can just kill him with your ultimate and ignite. Else you are just farming and doing the same as in the previous matchups.

Another classic matchup. This is a lane where Zed can really show his potential. The only thing you are going to do here is to permanently force trades with him. You push hard and get that experience advantage so that you can poke him really hard under the tower with your shadow.
Once you hit 6 you have a damage-ability over him since he cant damage you with his ultimate.
That is the point where you can really just bully him in terms of kill potential. The only thing Shen is going to do is that he is looking for a situation or chance to use his ultimate on the map. Now you can feel free to push to the inhibitor.
Mostly this matchup is just going in Zed's favor. Shen is going to stack HP and just tries to survive on lane while you get your Core-Items and just one-shot the enemy squishys.

Jax stands no chance if you play right. You can dodge his stun with your shadow and just trade better than him. Poke him down and push him to his tower to deny him. Since Jax also scales pretty well with items and is considered as a hard Anti-Carry like Irelia you should abuse that fact. Try to kill him atleast once before he hits level 7 else he is just going to be stronger than you when he builds HP/Armor.
The best you can do is to always use your ultimate on him when it's up.Dont try to do longer melee trade-offs since his direct 1vs1 abilities are stronger than yours .Just use your ultimate to get him low enough under tower to kill him. Against hyper-aggressive Jax players who try to all-in you with in the early levels just dont overextend. If you simply poke him he can't abuse his elixir and will sit on it.

This guy is fucked. There is no way for him to kill you unless you eat every E-Q from him. After level 2 just always force trades with him and if he knockes you back in his hammer stance just use your shadow to catch up again. He can literally do nothing in the lane against since you can poke him with your shadow through the minions and he can't. After level 6 feel free to fuck him over everytime you got your ultimate since he doesn't really have an ultimate.

Weak. Just dont let him reach the minions to get his HP backup. Once he needs to use his abilities to farm, he is going to be out of mana really soon and then he is just going to die under his tower.

Abuse the fact that he has mana and you don't. Try to poke him continously so that he can't get his shield backup.Just use your healthpotions to soak his damage and push him to his tower. The point where he is out of mana he can't do shit against you.Simply push the lane and force him away from the tower.
Since he is going to build stupid amounts of armor you can just rush LastWhisper and kill him over and over or you just shove the lane and roam around which is in my opinion the better option.

Many people fear her but Zed is a quite good pick against her.You poke way harder with your shadow than her and you can just push her to the tower to deny her. When she still gets some farm and builds HP/Armor you just do the same as before. Push and gank.

Early Game

As you can see there is quite an easy strategy for the toplane. You start with Elixir for that extra early advantage and force trades.Dependent on your opponent you simply push him to his tower and try to denie him.

The goal here is to force the enemy jungler to gank top.Since you start with a ward you are going to see if the jungler ganks you. It's pretty common today that the jungler ganks toplane with doublebuff and you should expect him at around 3.30.

Like I mentioned earlier in the guide Zed is going to snowball really hard.Once you have that gold advantage from pushing your opponent or killing someone with your ultimate, then you simply going to dominate the game.

When you hit level 3 in lane you want to poke the enemy with your combo. When you hit him once a while with that he is soon going to be out of healthpotions. Then you can feel free to trade harder since he can't back up the health.Push him to his tower until he has to back.

When you back the first time you want to buy or depending on the match-up.With those items you should be able now to push your lane easily with your shadow.

Mid Game

ROAMING AND GANKING

At this stage of the game Zed starts to scaling. You should have finished your already and start to do huge loads of damage. The next goal is to finish off your .

When your opponent starts to realize that you actually outtrade him and that you have high kill-potential on him he is going to play really passive.Abuse that fact and keep him continousely at his tower.

Walk around the Mid-Lane and try to get some pressure around there.
The Mid-Laner stands no chance against a Zed with his huge burst-potential.Simply force a push or dragon and secure that for your team.

When your lane opponent starts to follow you from the TopLane you can also try to get kills on him.As soon as you realize that he actually has no idea how strong you are try to bait him by playing passive for a bit. A wrong step in range of your ultimate should be enough here to blow him away or atleast to force him back to base.

It might also be possible to gank the Botlane.Ask your Jungler to hold the Top-turret and request the ward-coverage of the opponent's botlane. The only thing you have to do is getting in your ultimate range.Once you get it off he will be slowed from and there should be no escape from your damage.Even or a from his support on you shouldn't be enough to stop you.

Late Game

By now the hardest part for every assassin in the game begins. You should be very farmed and have at least some kills from your roaming-intentions in the Mid-Game.

You are a single-target burst assassin and your damage on squishys is just hilarious.Try to catch people alone and kill them but ONLY you know where the rest of the enemies team is.Don't try to be the hero since you mostly are just going to lose the game for your team.Rather focus on taking objectives with your team.

Stick as 5 and get a good ward-coverage around baron. Dragon should be absolutely non-relevant by now!

Most of the time this stage of the game is the part where you actually only fight as 5 so I refer you to the next Chapter 13

It is really important for you to know what your position and target in a teamfight should be.

Team Fights

This is the part where Zed is the scariest. His potential to completely chunk squishies in less than 2 seconds and get out with his shadows is disgusting

Most of the time you find yourself standing not near your team because you have to position yourself so that you can reach your target with your ultimate.

Never use your to get close to your target! You are going to lose one of your escapes and trading your life for the ADC's is not always the best to do.

It is really important that you understand how important Zed's shadows are for him. With your ultimate you place a Shadow behind your target after you dash to him. This is the first "Checkpoint" to where you can back up by pressing R again.

Use your as soon as possible on the target to get the additional damage added to your Death Mark.

Your target will now either Flash away and you can just catch up to him with your W Shadow. But mostly the enemy team will react to you diving on the ADC and will try to peel for him. There are certain champions like or who can effectively hold you back from your target.

The knock-up from ultimate will steal you like 1 second important time to damage your target and trigger additional damage to the Death Mark.
Also the hook will completely take you out for 1.5 seconds and getting hit by that will mostly result in your dead.
There are many more hard-cc spells allowing to shut down Zed's 2 second timeline to "fill" his Death Mark with damage but I think you get my point that you have to atleast get one combo off to kill your target, your ultimate or rather said the Death Mark alone doesn't kill anyone. That's the only weakness about his burst-combo.

If you realize that the back-up from his team is just too big and you are about to get disabled or chunked just jump back to your shadow from the ultimate. You just completely make the enemy team back off to safe their important squishy and this is the time where your team can damage the enemies for free.

That means you don't even have to kill your target.

The only thing you have to do is to go GBTRGVSVRTHBRTHVRSGR on him and force some of the enemys to help out their backline .The Death Mark is going to chunk your target REALLY hard if you did some damage and he is most likely going to die to your team when you didn't kill him yourself already.

After you backed out, you can just continue to keep harassing the enemy with your shadow and maybe force them again to go on you so that they waste time.

Note that is not enough to shut down your damage. Sure it reduces your damage dealt to the Death Mark and the triggered damage itself but it should still be enough to kill.

Final Comments

This here is my first Guide.I'm also not a native speaker and I know that my english isn't really the best.
Still I hope that you can understand my arguments and that you realize how underrated Zed actually is.
He is a really good champion to play in SoloQ and also in Ranked5's. The potential simply kill someone and get out on this champion is unbelievable and his mechanics are unique. The ability to farm well against everyone, the huge waveclear and the beasty lategame just made me fell in love with him. I hope you also do :-)

Give me feedback and tell me spelling/grammar issues.

hi Blowly i follow'd your tips about the jax matchup and it workd great for the early levels. Then he just started building his botrkand could heal off my poke with few autoattacks on creeps. then q+ aa me and zone me. Also my poke push the lane, so he could keep autoattacking and heal off without pushing too much. With his lifesteal i wasnt able to force him to low health anymore and he kept dmaaging me and tower diving for the kill then snowballing pretty hard

@ a tiny ant

Getting Hydra>Blade is pretty much no option.

You want to get BotRK as soon as possible since it gives you great utility with the movementspeed bonus. You can't underestimate the option to slow someone down like that to chase him down. If he burns his flash and you have the hydra there's no actual way to catch up, only your Living Shadow which is also your escape ability. I can guarantee that you are going to miss alot of kills just by that.

The additional AD from W is not that relevant since it's my last ability to max and lategame the utility from Blade comes even more in handy.

@xSighX

Probably ^^

You should probably mention how Kayle shuts down Zed incredibly hard... :(

Why would you get BotRK over Tiamat?

Tiamat active is a 1.0AD nuke that decays to 0.6 at maximum range. Zed jumps right on top of the target with his ultimate, so it's safe to assume Tiamat active will deal 1.0AD damage

BotRK active is 15% of the targets maximum HP.

Assuming a late-game Zed reaches 400AD, usually it's more but 400 is pretty common, an enemy champion needs 400*(1/0.15) = 2666 health or more for BotRK to deal equal or more damage than a Tiamat. Higher health values will mean that BotRK's active will outdamage Tiamat's.

That's only considering the active. Hydra gives 3x more AD than a BotRK does (25 vs 75). That 50 extra AD will get amplified by W passive and also make your abilities a lot stronger.

The idea is, you're a lot better off with building a Hydra instead of a BoRK.

Also, next patch is probably the patch where health potions get capped at 5, and FortPot becomes more expensive as well.

By that time you might as well start Rejuvenation + 5pots + Ward.

"1 Point in Butcher or Destruction to unlock Executioner."

You can also give 1 point into Fury it's just personal preference.

April 20, 2013 - 07:19 PM #7

why 1 point in butcher? isnt passive already too easy to last hit with..?

@Titziminator

Vayne is able to denie you some creeps in the early game but as long as you dont feed her pre6, you should be able to 100to0 her with your ult at any time.

@Man in the mirror: normally you got your tank to soak up the enemy apc+adc damage or maybe the cc he offers you. Since Zed can easily snipe down almost any champ (even most of the tanks) you dont need the ability to tank, just shut them down. At the other hand engaging gets much more difficult without a tank, wait for their squishys to come to the Frontline and engage with your ulti since you are not targetable for around 1sec your team will easily catch up to and beat the sh*t out of them.

This might sound nooby, but I just got my ass handed to me by a vayne. Any tips how to beat a vayne top lane? She just seems so much stronger than zed in general, outdamages him early-mid game and can with ease get away from him late game. She just seems to be the perfect counter in every way...
