Champion Matchups

Introduction

GladImNotU here giving you a guide for Jayce.

Jayce is a very mobile all around hybrid great for poking in 1v1 or teams fights and getting into the battle with high damage and quite a few escape tactics for himself and his entire team. Jayce does have some flaws though were he is very squishy champion and heavily relies on knowing when to use what skills. Even though it sounds weird, I like to use this build on bot even though Jayce is a top champion but this can be used for top as well, just buy more tankier items. Jayce should be built to deal damage quickly and overtime while still being able to catch up to people and take some hits. Remember though that to get to that pro Jayce status, he needs to get kills early game in order to make up for how squishy he is early game. Soon though, that one kill will evolve into doubles and triples and you should be able to take on anyone who tries to take you even if they are tanky and help get kills for his teammates as well.

This Guide is always trying to evolve so comments would liked.

Masteries

I like to go a basic AD mastery page, (21-6-3) where you deal out damage to make up for the little armor and MR you have early gmae. If you want a more tankier build, i suggest moving some points into the defense tree to make up for the lack of early sustain.

Runes

For Jayce, I honestly like having Ability power for my glyphs because you can deal out quite some damage mid-game when you use your + combo, but this can be considered nooby so if you want to you can try this out. If you find yourself going against AP champions, then you can switch out the ability power for magic resist glyphs.
For the rest its just a regular AD build that I use on most of my AD champions. You don't need attack speed runes because eventually with your items, you will start attacking much faster and your can boost your attack speed even more when in cannon form. Try to build as much attack damage with your marks as possible as well as your quints.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:
These are the basic spells for every champion. I for one enjoy using teleport since I can get across the map much faster and when coupled with a good support who wards frequently, can be quite a gank and turn around any teamfight. Plus teleport is great for players who have big hands and small keyboards like me.

(Side Note) If you can land those Combos, then you don't need flash unless you still need practice hitting your .

Skills

Passive: Hextech Capacitor

Explanation:

The passive is only useful during the very beginning of the game where I try to rush to the enemies bushes either top or bot when we have no jungle. It allows me to jump on them with in hammer form and then follow it up with a in cannon form, followed by ignite and continuous auto-attacks to get the kill from afar.

Q: To the Skies! / Shock Blast

Explanation:

Great for slowing enemy champions down and dealing high damages late game in hammer form. You need to be in range though the second you switch into hammer form because if they are out of your range, then you have to wait until your comes back to nuke them down. Early game, don't use the + combo unless you know you will get the kill because the cooldown on won't allow another shot for some time and it can't do enough damage early game until you have some items.

W: Lightning Field / Hyper Charge

Explanation:

Great skill for taking down turrets or champions at mid or late game and with in hammer form, you get mana back for every hit you get so you now have a mana sustain for late game. in cannon form gets better the more you level it up to reduce the cooldown on it and coupled with damage items, can destroy turrets and tanky champions down quickly.

E: Thundering Blow / Acceleration Gate

Explanation:

in hammer form is good for stopping champions skills such as and and can be used as a way to escape or bring enemy champions to your team. While in cannon form, you can use the
+ combo as said before. You can set off before you set off but you have less time to do it while doing the opposite way will allow for more time but the enemy champions will know that you will use your combo. The gate also allows for your teammates to run away or catch up to enemy champions which can help if your hasn't come back.

R: Transform: Mercury Cannon / Transform: Mercury Hammer

Explanation:

When necessary and no other options are available, switch between forms to get the most out of the hammer's attack damage increase and the cannon's MR/Armor reduction. It only works on the first auto-attack, not any skills so remember that in fights.

Skill Order

I like to max out first because it's going to be your main damage for skills outside of the combo. The gap closer allows for your attack damage to come out and start taking away chunks of health from anyone who is close to you.

will come next in maxing for its attack speed increase and mana sustain late-game. This helps take down those turrets that just need 1 or 2 more hits or to keep enemy champions away from dying teammates because of its speed. While in hammer form, the aoe damage that it deals out can clear ENTIRE minions waves and can help give you mana if you are getting a red or blue buff.

Max last since its more of a utility spell and is trumped by the other spells. Its main use is for your Q + E combo and for getting to or out of places as well as your teammates.

You should max when it comes up because the cooldown on the transforming is reduced and the traits that come with the skills increases with it as well.

Item Builds

I start out with + + . The boots are explanatory but you need to get a ward if you know their jungle is going to gank you early game such as . By then, you only have enough for 1 so i would suggest taking that since you can recover mana off minions with .

On consecutive trips back, I try to build up to so i can be take more hits and go in for kills more often. It will also start to help once team fights start. One thing to note though is that you won'y be able to do alot of damage if you rush , so if you can last in a fight, then start building towards .

My next big item that i get is for its proc and proc and its attack speed added with for its attack speed.

is a great starting armor pen when needed and it helps with cool down reduction a little and gives you some damage and health in the process.

is for enemy champions who are getting really tanky items and you need that extra armor pen.

Get if your team needs you to be tankier and take more hits while you chase down kills or get into team fights.

Final Comments

Overall, Jayce is one of THE best champions in LoL because of his overall use as a 1v1 fighter and his capabilities in team fights. Remember though that Jayce takes time to learn and that this is not the most perfect build. If you don't like something here, build off what is here and experiment on your own. This is still a work in progress and with comments can grow to be a better build for anyone who wants to play Jayce.
