Introduction

Hello :)

I am a fairly new LoL player. I have started playing League just after Volibear got released. My IGM: Black Turret. Here is my lolking profile if someone is interested: http://www.lolking.net/summoner/eune/26403602.

My first ranked games were just a pain. As you may imagine I went for ranked games just after I got 30 lvl. It didn't end up well.

Lowest elo I had was around 900. At this point I have started watching streams, mostly OddOne and Saint. I feelt in love with jungling. After some time and at the end of season 2 I was ~1300 elo. Kinda high for me :)

When season 3 started, I was playing carefully trying to do my best and after placement matches I was 1450 elo :) But at some point something went terribly wrong and I felt to ~1000. Those were bad times mostly because I stopped playing jungle, was raging a lot and playing even when not in a mood for it.

Now when season 3 started I was placed in Silver III. After a bit of games I have managed to get my self to gold IV, (almost III now :)). I know I am not the pro player or anything, but at this point I am strongly convinced that in less then 2/3 weeks I will be able to get to Plat V :).

O.K. End of talking bout me. Let's talk about Xin. I started plaing Xin at the end of season 2. He is a fun champion to play and the Husar Xin Zhao skin is just too good to not use it :D. After Season 3 started I have played almost only Xin jungle. I was playing Xin in every game I was able to jungle with him. At the best moment I had a 14 straight wins. Basically just thanks to Xin I have managed to get into Gold Division.

I do hope that after reading some of the things from this guide it will help some of you to get a higher division/leagues.

P.S. Leave me some comments, so I will know if any of those thing I said or will say were helpfull to you guys.

Best of luck to everyone, have good games and hope to meet some of you on the fields of justice :)

Xin Zhao, the Seneschal of Demacia

Xin Zhao Patch Changes

2013-03-01 - Patch 3.03

"These changes reduce Xin Zhao’s ability to stick to his target in early engagements and reduce his burst damage especially when building purely defensive items."

Audacious Charge
  • Damage reduced to 70/105/140/175/210 from 70/110/150/190/230
  • Cooldown increased to 14/13/12/11/10 seconds from 13/12/11/10/9
Crescent Sweep
  • Base damage reduced to 75/175/275 from 125/225/325
  • Cooldown increased to 120/110/100 seconds from 100/90/80

Well he did recieve some "nerfs" to his basic damage on E and R and at the same time their cooldown were increase. At this point proper timing of E will just seperate good xin zhao players from the best ones. Base damage decreases can be a little hurting but I still belive he will be one of the best junglers in the game.

Lore

Whenever Jarvan III, the king of Demacia, delivers one of his rallying speeches from the glinting marble balcony atop the Royal Palace, Xin Zhao is at his side. Coined the Seneschal of Demacia, Xin Zhao is the personal steward of the Lightshield Dynasty. His enigmatic, silent vigil has led to an abundance of conjecture concerning his ''secret life'' and origins. Whether it's ''Zaun double-agent'' tendered at the dinner table or ''indebted rune mage'' mused in the editorials of the ''Demacian Constant'', Xin Zhao betrays no hints to sate the curiosity of the masses... for good reason.

Prior to the formation of the League, Noxus was renowned for a spectacle called The Fleshing. It was a gladiatorial event with a cruel twist: as a fighter won matches, his number of opponents (generally prisoners of war) fought simultaneously would increase. This meant eventual death for every contender, but with unparalleled glory. Xin Zhao, known then as Viscero, was slated to face 300 soldiers, nearly six times the previous record. This was clearly meant to be his final match. Jarvan II, hearing of this unprecedented feat, infiltrated the arena to offer him an alternative: serve Demacia and punish those who ultimately sentence him to death in exchange for his freedom. Xin Zhao accepted, astonished that a king would risk his own life on his behalf. Under the cover of a prearranged Demacian assault on Noxus, Jarvan liberated Xin Zhao and his 300 opponents. During their retreat, Xin Zhao took a poisoned dart meant for Jarvan. This act of loyalty, from a man who vowed no allegiance, earned Xin Zhao a spot at his side until the day the king died. Now in the service of his son, Jarvan III, Xin Zhao is stepping into a new ring - the Fields of Justice - to fight for his adopted country and to honor the legacy of the man who gave purpose to his life.

''Death is inevitable, one can only avoid defeat.''

Masteries

Why 9/21/0 and not 21/9/0? The answer to this question is fairly simple. After Season 3 patches and Masteries rework the deffensive tree is just the strongest one. In addition Xin's passive on early game makes up for all the damage you will need. I did tryed the 21/9/0 masteries, but in my opinion they do not offer as much as the 9/21/0. Yes you will be more deadly and if itmized damage you will be able to destroy enemy teams carrys. But if you will be focussed you will jus blow up before you will be able to kill anyone. Additionally you won't be able to stand there and peel for your own carrys because you will be erased from the map way to soon.

Offensive Tree:
[http://i.imgur.com/Ldr5CPN.png]: CDR is in my opinion God Like on Xin. Additionally it helps you in early clears and ganks before you will itmize for it.

[http://i.imgur.com/DtB0Uz2.png]: A little bit of a time scalling damage. So you won't have to buy any other damamge items beside you will be doing insane damage during this HP stacking meta.

[http://i.imgur.com/t7NaQVO.png]: This + and you will do tons of damage early.

Deffensive Tree:

[http://i.imgur.com/PiRg0fW.png]: For some extra money when using smite.

[http://i.imgur.com/g5dkXie.png] and [http://i.imgur.com/z8g9p3V.png]: To speed up clear times and reduce some early camps damage to make our invincible sustain.

[http://i.imgur.com/PtGD1Sd.png]: Just 1 point, to help up with the early camps damage.

[http://i.imgur.com/af7kfGe.png] + [http://i.imgur.com/OA1Xeuc.png]: Extra health is never a bad idea.

[http://i.imgur.com/OWcOT9l.png]: To help you with early ganks. It reduces the damage you take from enemy champions. So if you wil lget focused during a gank and you have a strong early carry you have already won the exchange.

[http://i.imgur.com/KvYFPKl.png]: Personal preference, I tend not to itemize for tenacity during the game. So I would like to reduce the CC on me this way.

[http://i.imgur.com/efDKC7y.png]: Here is where I must admit, wasn't using it, but at some point I just had to start. It is a magical point, you get 5 points in armor and in mr during team fighs, for just one mastery point.

[http://i.imgur.com/0ZC9lEh.png] - 3% reduction from any possible damage? When you are so deep in defensive tree it won't be wise to not take such a strong mastery.

Runes

[http://i.imgur.com/u8iOpL0.png] - Flat armor pentrtion to help you in early clears. It scales well with your's own passive . This combination will also increase your's damage during early game.

[http://i.imgur.com/6XI4oYo.png] - Attack speed marks. The faster you attack, the biger chance you have for the proc from . It additionaly helps you to pull 3 autos with activated during ganks to secure the kills.

[http://i.imgur.com/buldafO.png] - Flat armor will improve yours sustain during early clears and may save you when enemy team focusess you during ganks.

[http://i.imgur.com/Hads5fz.png] - Scaling magic resist. It will be more efficent then flat ones, as at the early game you face mostly jungle creeps. So additional magic resist early is not required.

[http://i.imgur.com/Ps2wCdr.png] - to boost your's ARP, same reason as the red armor penetration marks.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

- This summoner is a must on a jungler. You need it to control Baron or dragon, it also speeds up the clear times drasticly.

- I just love it. Great escape and initiation spell. It can save you from some really bad situations on the other hands it can open a perspective for some sneaky initiations or ganks.

Other summoners that might be used instead of flash on Xin, but not as good as flash in my opinion:

- On Xin it can give you a chance to catch up to an enemy and then to him. But still I believe it is not as good as .

- You can use it, but you are left without any escapes.

In my opinion there are no other good summoner spells for jungle Xin Zhao. When it comes to Top lane then yes, but not in jungle.

Skills

2013-03-01 - Patch 3.03 UPDATED.

Passive: Challenge
Xin Zhao challenges his target with his basic attacks and Audacious Charge, reducing its armor by 15% for 3 seconds.

Explanation:

This is a really good passive. It basicly gives you and your team a free armor reduction on an enemy. Thanks to this spell you are able to do massive damage to enemys when building the way I explained.

Q: Three Talon Strike
Xin Zhao's next 3 standard attacks deal increased damage that reduce his other ability cooldowns, with the third attack knocking an opponent into the air.
Xin Zhao's next 3 basic attacks deal 15/30/45/60/75 (+1.25) bonus physical damage and reduce his other abilities' cooldowns by 1 second. The final strike also knocks the target into the air.

Cost 30 Mana
Range 0

Explanation:

It gives you CDR and CC. If you are able to perfomr full combo when ganking during laning phase, then in most of cases it will be a guaranteed kill.

W: Battle Cry

Xin Zhao passively heals every 3 attacks and can activate this ability to attack faster.
Passive: Xin Zhao heals himself for 26/32/38/44/50 (+0.7) every third basic attack.
Active: Xin Zhao unleashes a battle cry, increasing his attack speed by 40/50/60/70/80% for 5 seconds.

Cost 40 Mana
Range 0

Explanation:

Gives you nice attack speed and sustain in jungle. I level it up last, or in some cases I would put 2 or 3 points before maxing Q.

E: Audacious Charge
Xin Zhao charges an enemy, dealing damage and slowing all enemies in the area.
Xin Zhao charges and challenges an enemy. The charge deals 70/105/140/175/210 (+0.6) magic damage to all nearby enemies and slows them by 25/30/35/40/45% for 2 seconds.

Cost 60 Mana
Range 650

Explanation:

The gap closer. The AOE slow. The AOE damage. Remember to use it the wiselly, if you blow it and after you won't be able to throw full combo it will be a waste of time. When trying to gank champs with escapes try waiting for them using it or baiting them to use it before on them.

R: Crescent Sweep
Xin Zhao fiercely sweeps his spear around him, dealing damage to nearby enemies based on their current health and knocking them back.
Xin Zhao unleashes a sweep around him that deals 75/175/275 (+1.0) plus 15% of target's current health in physical damage and knocks enemies back. Xin Zhao gains 15/20/25 Armor and Magic Resistance for 6 seconds for each champion hit.

Challenge: If a challenged target is hit by the sweep, it is unaffected by the knockback.

Cost 100 Mana
Range 500

Explanation:

TONS of damage :). With enough skill you can use it to position eneamy plaers. When ganking you can use it to push an enemy back so it will give you more time to secure the kill. Remeber that a person with won't be pushed back.

Skill Order

As a jungler I preffer this way of leveling my spells:

Lvl 1: Hardly depends, if I am going to invade theier jungler, I would either go for [Q] or [E].
But when I am just going to do basic opening Wolves-> Blue or Wraiths->Red I would mostly start with [W], as it gives me nice sustain early.

When invading it all depends of if my team have some hard forms of CC.
I would go [Q] first if I have those champions on my team and we are invading their jungle: /////////

And [E] when I will be required to initiate and slow them down, it also gives some nice AOE damage.

After that I prefer getting [Q] on 2nd lvl, unless I already have it. Perfect situation for me is to have Q-W-E on 3rd level. After that I would always max E. After that I tend o max Q second.

And ofcours I will always put a point in [R] whenever it is possible.
So, a general maxing skill order would be:
->->->

Item Builds

-> - It is a must on a jungler. It speeds up yours clear times and gives you some armor. thanks to this on you can spend more time ganking then fighting jungle creeps. It also provides a possibility of getting fast dragon. However I tend not to updgrade it to , as in my opinion it is more crucial to get a Locket and boots before.

solari.png] - This isteam is just to good to skip it at the moment. It gives all HP and CDR you will need early on, for the money it costs, it is a must have in my opinion :)

- > - If build early enough you will become invincible in combination with locket. It is just stupidly good combination in my opinion. And this HP stacking meta just lets you stay alive long enough to protet your carrys or dive the enemy ones.

- It will give you all the damage you will ever need. In the HP stacking meta, brutalizer is a beast. However I rarly upgrade it to untill late late game. The only moments I would rush this after are when I am extreamly feed and able to finish the game on my own.

/ - I go for this item after locket in games when the enemy team has a feed AP, or their team comp is mostly AP.

- I would go for Omen if the enemy team has a hyper AD Carry, or is mostly AD:

- Gives some nice CDR and is great against heavy AD teams.

- It is also a good item on Xin. Buy it if you have some extra money, get feed or need some increased jungle clear times and ability to push waves when trying to split push.

Early Game

Early game. The I would play it hardly depends on what jungler is on the opposing team and how are my tam mates doing in their lanes. If enemy team has some sort of a slow clear time jungler I would invade his buffs and camps.

However in my opinion Xin Zhao is just really strong early so it is a good idea to farm yours own jungle, place some wards to see thier jungler movements and try to react on his actions. Early ganks on Xin Zhao can lend you some early kills and assists. Puting your laners ahead. If you have a proper warding you can try to make the enemy bot lane base and then try to take the dragon.

Mid Game

Mid game. This is the hardest one to describe. As it is really really unique and situational. If you are crushing your opponents, then it would be a good idea to ward their jungle, then join your team laner and try to push some turrets. Securing some objectives gives you not only gold, but taking down some turrets while having a good wards coverage makes the enemy team even more behind.

When the game is not going in yours favor, you should try catching enemy players alone, ward, ward, ward, make sure to not loose objectives. You can even try to group up in like 3-4 and gank lanes that are overextended. Enemy top is pushing? Join your's own, call for mid help and kill him. It could even possible get you back in to the game. I had so many games where my team was terrible behind. All we had to do is force some fights we could win, 4vs3 3vs2. In lower elos feed player tends to play recklessly, they often get cocky, trying to get more and more kills. They will dive you, they will stop warding. Let them ! Let their own self-confidence make them loose! :)

Late Game

When it comes to the late game, it all depends of how did the laning phase went, team comp and the gold balance. Many people beliefs that late game is just about team fights. It is not! Late game is team fighting, yes, but beside that it is also getting and securing the objectives (turrets, dragon and baron).

If your team is behind and you know that a team fight just can't go in your's own favor you can try split pushing, and it will be a good idea if you have on you. In this moment of the game you should save smite for securing baron or dragon. You shouldn't be smiting now anything else. Try and help your team by placing some wards. Make sure you have vision on the most crucial areas of the map. As I said before, wards do win games.

Team Fights

When it comes to team fights, you should agree with your team who is going to peel for your's carrys and who will be tanking and diving/zoning enemy team carrys from the fight. If you have some strong CC/utility supports that can protect the carry or just disengage them from the danger, like: , , , , , , you should agree with them that they will do the peeling while you will be trying to kill or just zone enemy team carrys from the fights. If your team lack of any peeling possibility then you should be the one that stands between your carry and enemy bruiser, tanks. Xin can do the job pretty good thou. Try to position yourself that you can body block them then them to the air, if needed you can them so it will be easier to kite them. You can even use your push away any danger. In the time that you will finish your combo, your carries should have more the enough time to melt down their front line and from now on it open road to just erased their back line from the game.

Jungling

Jungling:

When my team is not invading and we are sure that the enemy team is not invading us, I would start:

Wolves -> Blue

- just for the shorter CD on then nad max it.

Now it depends.
If you had a smiteless blue and you know enemy jungler is slower then you, or maybe he was spotted on the map.
In that situation I would often go and steal their red. After succsessfuly stealing their buff, watch the timer, add 5 minutes and you will know when to come again and still it once more. If done correctly you can compleatly shut down enemy jungler.

After that if you are blue side:

Golems -> yours own red -> Wraiths -> Gank mid.

If you are purple side, after taking their red:

Gank bot (tip: watch yours creeps wave, this way you can sneak behind them and catch them fully unprepared).

-> Wolves --> Wraiths -> Yours red -> Golems -> Gank top or mid.

Here I have created some basic starting routes I personally use :) I will add some more later on:

Blue Side:

Purple Side:

Final Comments

Hi :)

I know I am not a pro player. I am not even some high diamond. However I do belive I am decent enough that I can explain somethig to people that wants to try out Xin Zhao. I CAN NOT promisse you that if you will follow this guid it will carry you out of yours league. It did worked for me, but it is not only the champion. I do belive I become a better player since my early starts. I am sure that my map awarness has impoved drassticly. But it is not just because I have started playing Xin.

However I recomend trying Xin to everyone who is looking for a fun to play champion. I have never been bored with Xin, even after playing 10 games in a row with him.

Anyways I hope this guide will help any of you with wining some games!!

P.S.

Love it or hate it, please leave me some comments, so I can change/improve the content :)

You need to heavily expand on your skills, phases of the game, and item builds sections. Item section at the top is a cheat sheet, don't write sentences explaining why there. Don't use large icons in the middle of sentences, it breaks up lines unevenly. See this guide for more guide writing tips: http://www.solomid.net/guides.php?g=35596-slater-von-j-ger-generic-build-guide

Thanks for this great feedback. To be honest I have recently tried skipping aegis and getting faster Warmogs + Sunfire. Still testing it thou. However I like getting aegis mainly because I will get it so much faster even as my second item then the supports. And I tend to do this mostly in games where I know I will need to peel for to carrys as noone else would be able to. So the buff will be on more people then just me. However I appreciated and noted everything you said and I wouldn't be supriced if some additional changes and updated to the items section of this guild will be made.

Thanks for the upvote and have a good day sir.

Yo, I am a diamond elo Xin player and this is a decent guide, smart to go into arPen/AS (what I currently am testing) on Xin in lieu of full AS. A couple things I can give you advice on: I recommend against building aegis/runic bulwark for a few reasons. First, for it's cost it gives very little hp and armor, the most important stats. Second, you are almost never giving the aura to more than one person in your team during a fight, especially to the carries who need it. Would recommend sunfire over this item. I also never build madred's into wriggles because it slows down your build and you NEED the tankiness from HP items as soon as possible. If you want to check out my Xin Guide you can find it here: http://www.solomid.net/guides.php?g=48566&c=620101361475832 If you want to send a PM or post a comment to ask questions feel free. Good guide, nice detail. upvoted it.
