Introduction

Illustrated by wacalac http://wacalac.deviantart.com/

Hi there, I'm Senpaí. I have been playing Jayce consistently since his release in the beta server and have over 800 Rank games with him in Season 3. With the recent nerf to Jayce's Acceleration Gate (Cooldown increased to 16 seconds from 14/13/12/11/10) he has been less favored. While his poke and disengage have been watered down, I believe he is still viable and remains a very powerful solo lane champion in the current meta.

My Lolking - http://www.lolking.net/summoner/na/23977016

About Jayce -

Jayce is a ranged and melee Attack Damage champion that utilizes poke, burst, positioning and mobility; his potential is determined on your knowledge of the enemy and allied champions. Jayce has the ability to zone and siege objectives all while being a very strong duelist in 1vs1 situations. While excelling in high damage output, he is most vulnerable to CC's like stuns, snares and taunts. He is ideally picked against low CC teams, and/or teams that are susceptible to hard engage.

Pros -
- Powerful long range poke
- High damage output and mobility
- Mixed damage
- Good siege potential
- Works well with many team compositions
- Fun to play!

Cons-
- Mana hungry
- Countered by most CC
- Dependent on items
- Squishy

Runes

This is the page I use for it is the most standard page you can see on Jayce. This provides the biggest punch early, while giving you standard armor and magic resist. I bring this page if I'm going to be really aggressive in lane against my opponent. Getting that extra 4 AD back from your Quints instead of bringing Lifesteal is a great way to push for an early kill. Having that extra 4 AD scale back into your auto attacks and all your abilities makes you pack a huge punch early in lane. I bring this against opponents who can be kited down in lane. . Overall this is my go-to page solely on the fact that it is the most reliable and most efficient way to output damage onto targets. Remember, 4 AD can mean the difference between winning and losing an early fight with an enemy in lane.

3 Utility
*This page has become my tried and tested favorite for Season 4, it has worked for me and I hope it works for you as well. Remember that all of these Mastery Pages can be mixed and matched to fit your personal preference and style!

Offense
With Double-Edged Sword, you receive more damage, however your own damage is increased as well. A very straight forward mastery; it is well worth the trade for Jayce's damage output. (Tip: % Damage/recieved adjusts between melee and ranged stance.)
Bringing two points into this will aid you in auto attacking people to death early levels, use it to your advantage!
Butcher is a really nice mastery to have, it helps you a lot while trying to CS. Remember that 20 CS is roughly the same amount of gold as 1 kill. So DON'T MISS YOUR LAST HITS!
Feast provides free sustain, giving you up to 12 Health and 6 Mana if you kill all 6 minions every 30 seconds. (7 minions every 3rd wave.)
Brute Force gives you more Attack Damage per level, increasing your overall damage throughout the game.
Jayce often harasses with auto attacks in lane. Get a point in Spell Weaving so your upcoming spells do more damage. (Tip: Procs with Jayce's three Hyper Charge auto attacks.)
Martial Mastery is basically 2 free AD Quints. Getting this allows for easier CS, more harass, and damage in the laning phase.
Executioner increases your damage on champions below 50% Health by 5%. Max this mastery for better kill potential on enemies.
Blade Weaving works well with Jayce because he auto attacks often between spells.
5% increase in Attack damage is good for any AD oriented damage dealer.
DANGEROUS GAME (Mastery pictures turned into S3 Masteries in Editor...) - This has become one of my favorite masteries, it can literally mean life or death. If you ever find yourself dieing to that last tick of ignite or last turret hit after diving someone, this may be your answer to living through that.
Devastating Strike gives 6% Armor and Magic Penetration at 3/3 points. You CAN max this, but I prefer only bringing 2/3 to leave points open for more parts of the Offense tree.
Havoc gives 3% increased damage which works alongside Executioner and Double-Edged Sword. Having these three masteries together increases your damage by 9.5% in Cannon Stance and 10% in Hammer Stance. Putting a point in this allows you to maximize your damage potential.

Defense
Taking 2/2 points into Block helps you sustain against ranged opponents in lane by weakening their harass.
Recovery allows you to sustain Health in lane much more efficiently.
Putting a point in Unyielding just lowers the overall damage you take from Champions. While it may not seem like a lot, this could be the determining factor of who wins or loses during a trade. (Tip: Does not work against true damage.)
I like having at least 1 point in this, free health is always a good thing.

Utility

You can work this together with Tear of the Goddess giving Jayce +9 Mana Regen, letting you to spam your abilities throughout the game. This is also important to bring if you aren't building Tear as well, helping sustain your mana problems.

Summoner Sets

Ignite & Flash
Ignite - Ignite gives you more kill potential. Jayce is able to all-in opponents; take this for free damage. Landing a complete Jayce combo + ignite early on will usually be enough to kill an enemy Champion. Keep in mind that ignite does more true damage per level, and reduces healing to the Champion it is applied to.

Flash - There is a good reason why Summoners constantly pick Flash; it can keep you safe from ganks, potentially secure kills for your team, allows you to make plays, dodge skill shots, as well get you out of sticky situations. Flash alone can decide the difference between winning or losing.
(Tip: Jayce can cover a lot of ground using flash and Hammer Stance Q onto an enemy champion/minion/neutral camp.)
Barrier & Flash
Barrier - I rarely take this, not to say it isn't good, but it's situational against high burst champs. (i.e. ) Be aware that the amount Barrier shields you goes up depending on your level!

Teleport & Flash
Teleport - I may take this if I feel I can kill an enemy lane opponent without the need of ignite. This allows for split push opportunities, counter ganking, and/or just ganking other lanes, giving just overall presence and pressure throughout the map.

Item Builds

Starting Build(s)
Doran's Blade Start
Doran's Shield Start
Faerie Charm Start
4
2
DORAN'S BLADE
99% of the time I start with Doran's Blade. It gives Health, self sustain and most kill potential early.
(Note: Doran's Blade passive changes from when you're in Melee or Ranged Stance.)

DORAN'S SHIELD
Doran's Shield start is if you're going against an opponent you feel you can't out-trade and want to just farm.

FAERIE CHARM
Faerie Charm start is if you're going to be passive in lane, and just want to get your Tear of the Goddess* started early.

*Tear of the Goddess
Tear of the Goddess, in my opinion, is essential for Jayce. Although the nerfs to Tear made it tedious to stack, it is still a vital item to Jayce and should not be overlooked. Not only does it solve Jayce's Mana problem, but when upgraded into a Manamune, which turns into a Muramana, Jayce deals some of the highest damage in the game. To become a proper Jayce player you must learn how to stack your Tear effectively. You should reach 750 Mana, or 188 stacks, ideally before 25 minutes. The cooldown on stacking Tear is 2 stacks every 8 seconds, so essentially 1 ability every 4 seconds. Jayce has 6 abilities to work towards stacking (QWE), so keep track of the cooldown on Tear as you use your abilities! Spam your abilities after you recall to fountain, on your way back to lane, or while roaming around the map in general to get your Muramana finished faster.
tl;dr - Spam your QWE for faster Muramana = More damage.

- SEASON 4 EDIT -

For me personally in Solo Q, I have NOT been building Tear anymore. With the flow of the game in Season 4, you can simply rush damage items. I normally go Brutalizer into Bloodthirster, this packs a HUGE punch to anyone in your way during the mid game. Please keep in mind that by skipping Tear you will have no Manamune, which means no Muramana. Doing this is a huge hit on your late game damage, so think of going no Tear as a trade off for earlier damage but less late game damage and vice versa. Make sure to buy pots so you can sustain your mana (this means CS properly so you can afford it!), because going no Tear makes mana conservation really difficult.

There has been a recent buff/nerf to Tear of the Goddess though patch 4.3, +1 maximum mana per 8 seconds though the mana regen went down from 7 to 6. With that being said, this makes stacking up Tear a whole lot quicker, I've estimated it around 20 minutes or so as compared to the previous Tear.
tl;dr - Tear of the Goddess is OPTIONAL, but still VIABLE.

- SEASON 4 EDIT -

Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
This build allows you to kill mostly every Champion in the game. Basically maximum CDR and high % Armor Pen makes for a very dangerous Jayce.

- SEASON 4 EDIT -

Muramana - Provides good Attack Damage, overall Mana, and Mana regeneration. The toggle ability of this item provides Jayce with a lot of Attack Damage increasing his burst potential. Manamune turns into Muramana once it reaches max stacks (750), so getting a Tear of the Goddess early on is essential to get this item going as quickly as possible.

As I explained in the Tear of the Goddess section, you don't HAVE to get this item anymore. You can simply rush damage output to annihilate the early game. Be aware that if you do so, you will lose the big spike in late game damage that this item would originally provide.

The Bloodthirster - During Season 4, I have been skipping Tear and rushing this after Brutalizer. The damage output you can potentially do is amazing. It's so amazing that a lot of people don't really expect it to come, though they may know Jayce does a lot of damage in the first place. It's my personal favorite to match the flow of the game in Season 4. (Don't forget to CS well so you can stack this up quickly!).

- SEASON 4 EDIT -

Ionian Boots - These boots give 15% cooldown reduction. It allows Jayce to cycle through his abilities allowing for more DPS.

Trinity Force - Power. Wisdom. Courage. Everything about this item works well with Jayce's abilities. The Attack Damage, movement speed and unique passives work perfectly for him. Basically, this item allows you to burst down even the beefiest opponents in the game. The SpellBlade passive makes Jayce's next auto attack do 200% of his base Attack Damage, mix that with his Hyper Charge + Muramana, and you have got a huge amount of damage coming out.

Last Whisper - After getting Manamune, it is generally good to get a Last Whisper as your next item. All the Attack Damage you have will go to waste once the enemy team stacks armor against you. Brutalizer is bought to keep your damage high through the early and mid game, but this item is mandatory once late game becomes a factor. Next to the 35% Armor Penetration that it provides, it gives you a solid 40 Attack Damage as well.

Black Cleaver - At this point in the game, the enemy team should be stacking some sort of armor against you. Having Black Cleaver allows you (and your allied Marksman) to shred through tanks easier. Last Whisper, Black Cleaver, Devastating Strikes (from Masteries) and Jayce's armor reduction from his Ult leads to a whopping 91% Armor Penetration (with 5 Black Cleaver stacks) on a single target. This allows you to either burst through enemy carries, or peel for your Marksman while bursting through enemy tanks.

Guardian Angel - By the time you get this item, it is most likely towards the later stages of the game. Giving you overall better defensive stats allows you to survive in fights longer and have more presence with your massive damage. It is generally the safest defensive item to buy and works well on Champions that need to stay in the fight longer. Keep in mind your cooldowns will keep running if you are in the midst of reviving from this, allowing you to potentially cycle through your abilities again once you come back up.

Situational Items

Sweeping Lens
You can get Sweeping Lens over Warding Totem if you would rather be killing enemy wards instead of placing your own wards. This also applies to other lanes though; if you're going to roam and you may know where wards are, this will allow you to counter enemy vision control by destroying crucial wards. Using this can be very useful as it may set up easy ganks for your Jungler. You should really consider this for later in the game if there is an enemy and have to clear his mushrooms.
(Tip: Don't forget you can upgrade these guys! )
Guardian Angel
Make sure to get Guardian Angel if your team is ahead and you want to secure a win. Think of this item as somewhat of an insurance if you get focused down and instantly die. You can never go wrong with this item, it is safe and provides good overall defensive stats.

The main focus on this item is its passive though, being able to revive during a fight is crucial. Remember, your cool downs still click down during the time you are reviving, possibly allowing you to cycle through your abilities once more. The enemy may have used up CC and skills to initially kill you, and if you're with your team and a teamfight breaks out afterwards, you and your team are in a good position to win the fight. All in all this item is great for Jayce since he is susceptible to CC and being bursted.
Randuin's Omen
This is my favorite defensive item to get as Jayce for it provides powerful peel, dueling, and defensive stats. I would take this item over Guardian Angel or even before you get Black Cleaver if the enemy team has a lot of AD and you need to slow down enemy Champions from reaching your allied carries. I mostly get this item if I know I'm going to have to peel for my allied Marksmen and sit next to them. If an enemy does jump onto you or your Marksmen, the active from this stops them in their tracks, allowing for them to be easily kited. Also if any auto attack based Champion does start to fight you (i.e. ) then this is a great item to counteract them.
Frozen Heart
This is a great item for Jayce if you're going against a heavy AD composition. You can get this over Randuin's Omen if the enemy team relies on auto attacks. The armor, Mana, and CDR this provides is a great choice for Jayce as it works towards his kit well. The aura that this item provides allows Jayce to trade with almost any auto-attack dependent Champion, especially enemy Marksmen. I've also found that having this item and sticking near your allied Marksmen helps keep them safe from enemies targeting them such as .

Later in the game, once you have finished your Muramana, the extra Mana that Forzen Heart provides will also give your Muramana's active extra damage. The extra CDR given to you by this item allows for potentially higher DPS for Jayce as well.
(Tip: [i]The 20% CDR allows you to get or instead of .
Banshee's Veil
This is the go-to item for solid defense against heavy AP compositions. The extra Health and Mana are great, but the passive is the reason this item is so strong. The spell shield blocks an incoming enemy ability, totally negating it. This alone can save your life and/or force enemies to burn an ability on you for free. The cool down on this passive is quite short (25 seconds) so in a prolonged teamfight, it can potentially be up twice.

So take this item if you are facing a strong AP composition. The spellshield is a nuisance for AP casters to deal with, and makes it very difficult for you to be engaged on effectively. This is a great way to get around Champions such as these :
(i.e. )
Spirit Visage
Spirit Visage is a good item to get if the enemy team has a lot of strong AP Champions. Providing good MR that gives bonus Health and CDR. This passive can also work towards your Lifesteal if you do have some from purchasing a Bloodthirster, Blade of the Ruined King or having Lifesteal Quints.
(Tip: The 20% CDR allows you to get or instead of .)
Quicksilver Sash
I would only lean towards getting this item if there is an enemy and he is ulting me constantly. I would recommend this if you're being cc'd down often. (i.e. ) The extra MR that this item provides isn't bad, and the active can also save your life in situations that could potentially be fatal.
Hexdrinker
I would get this on Jayce only if I am against an AP lane and am losing. This is a good way to counteract being bursted or snowballed to death from Champions. (i.e. ) Providing the same AD as a and good MR, it is a solid item choice if you need to survive. Also don't forget to finish this into a later in the game, it is a very underrated item that can save your life all while being a strong item for Jayce. Though this is a good counter item to APs, still rush your Tear of the Goddess even if you are losing, it is still essential to stack for late game Muramana damage.
Youmuu's Ghostblade
I only get this over Black Cleaver if the enemy team didn't stack a huge amount of armor (150+). Make sure you have a Last Whisper at least before upgrading your Brutalizer into this. Remember you are trading the Armor debuff for your entire team from Black Cleaver for your own attack speed and movement speed by buying this item. Only get this if your team is really ahead and you just need to get through the enemy carries quickly. The active on this works well with Jayce's abilities, as well as providing some % critical chance and an extra 10 flat Armor penetration. Buying this is riskier than just going Black Cleaver, but improves your own DPS and kiting potential once you have used the active.
Blade of the Ruined King
This is personally one of my favorite items on Jayce lately, and I have been buying it quite often. If the enemy team has a lot of Champions that stack health (i.e. ) then you should consider buying this item. The extra % health damage that comes from your auto attacks from this item will guarantee you to rip through high health enemies.

Don't forget to use the active of this item; It automatically takes 15% health out of an enemy Champion and grants you bonus movement speed while slowing down the target as well. This may be used offensively to catch enemies or defensively to escape as well. During fights I tend to use this on enemy carries if I need them dead as quickly as possible, or against enemy tanks if I need to be peeling for my allied Marksman.
The Bloodthirster
- SEASON 4 EDIT -

For Solo Q, I've mostly been rushing this after Brutalizer. (Avoiding Tear) The trade off here is you will lose some late game damage because the lack of Muramana, but having a Brutalizer + Bloodthirster mid game packs a huge punch against any opponent.

- SEASON 4 EDIT -

The way Jayce is built by different players is personal playstyle. Take this if you would like raw AD with good Lifesteal. I tend to build this after Brutalizer if I am not going to build Trinity Force. This allows for Jayce to trade evenly with most duelists that may be tricky for him to trade with normally. (i.e. ) The extra lifesteal and AD scale well into Jayce's abilities, because having a fully stacked Bloodthirster is +100 AD, packing a huge punch when poking, sieging and fighting.

Hands down this item potentially allows you to burst down enemies the fastest way possible. It's the most reliable and packs a solid punch to most enemies. If you find yourself ahead early, and have a lot of gold from farm and/or kills, then get this and you should be able to kill anyone mid-game.
Infinity Edge
If you don't care for Bloodthirster's big punches and lifesteal, you may want to consider getting this item. This gives the same AD as and unstacked Bloodthirster. Alongside Trinity Force and Muramana, this allows Jayce to dish out insane damage to targets quickly if you crit. Remember that you can crit with your Hyper Charge's three auto attacks, which can crit extremely hard because of Hyper Charge's scaling.

Having this and Muramana could allow you to potentially two-shot enemy carries. I've done this quite often for it is unexpected damage from auto attacks. Catching an enemy off guard is often all you need in winning, so with good coordination and a lucky crit, the game could be yours.
Warmog's Armor
This isn't a terrible item to get; it makes you beefy and able to soak some damage for your team. I would only consider getting Warmogs if the enemy team doesn't have much % health damage. If your team has no real tank, and you have fed teammates that need a front line, you should consider getting this item. If you do have this item, use it defensively to help peel and soak damage for your carries during teamfights.
Elixir of Fortitude
Once you have bought a few items, get this if you need that extra kick to help your team win team fights and such. More health and AD never hurts. You can also get the Blue Elixir later if you're capped out on items and have spare money to spend.
Enchantment: Homeguard
This is mainly the only enchantment you want to choose when buying it for your boots. You may want to get these mid game so you will be able to get into lane faster or roam to areas quickly. It's quite useful because it may help you get back to an area of the map to help protect an objective. Don't forget to pick this up if you have nothing else to buy late game as well!
Stealth Ward
Wards win games, period.
Don't forget to buy wards just because you have a Trinket. Vision control in games are usually what means a winning or losing for your team. There is never a time where giving vision to your team is a bad, the information that it may reveal is well worth the cost.
I always make it a habit to buy 2 wards every time I go back into fountain, so make sure to farm well so you can afford to do so.
These take 3 hits to kill as compared to 5 hits that Pink wards take.

Remember, Stealth wards cost 75g, that last 3 minutes.
So that means they cost 25g/min for 3 minutes for you to get your money's worth.
Vision Ward
Wards win games, period.
With the recent changes to Pink wards, they now last forever at the expense of being visible. These take 5 hits to kill as compared to 3 hits that Stealth wards take.

Pink wards cost 100g, which last forever. So for you to get your moneys worth over a Stealth ward, these have to last at least 4 minutes, which they often do if placed in favorable spots. After the 3 minute mark, these become more cost effective than if you had placed a Stealth ward.

Here are some spots where you may want to place wards-

Let's go over why those brushes by Dragon and Baron have become favorable spots to Pink ward since the vision changes.
The brush by Baron pit has been pink warded more often because of all of the traffic that passes through there (i.e. Jungler, Top or Mid lane ganks) or even setting up/clearing for Baron. The vision it grants may be crucial information on where an enemy Jungler/Top/Mid laner may be going, whether you're on Blue/Purple side.

The two Pink wards that are placed by Dragon pit are not only high traffic areas, they are a good spot to clear wards for a potential Dragon for your team. Pink wards have become very powerful defensively, and value sky-rocket once they pass 4 minutes on the field.
(Tip: Even if these wards are spotted, they still take 5 hits to kill, which can set up to be quite the bait for your team. Remember this works both ways!)

Skill Order

Hextech Capacitor
QTo the Skies! / Shock Blast
WLightning Field / Hyper Charge
EThundering Blow / Acceleration Gate
RTransform: Mercury Cannon / Transform: Mercury Hammer
At level 1 I take E. The speed boost allows you to get in and out to harass an opponent with auto attacks early levels. It can also keep you alive if you get an early gank from an enemy jungler.
(Tip: If you harass early, be aware of enemy minions, for they may end up doing more damage to you than the enemy lane opponent early.)

Always max this first! It is the most efficient way to harass/farm/and deal damage. This + Acceleration Gate is Jayce's infamous poke.

The % health damage allows you to hit beefy opponents hard, maxing this second allows you to do so effectively without relying heavily on items.

Don't touch this until you're level 13, your main reason for taking this route is to chunk higher health enemies as hard as you can.

Skills

Hextech Capacitor
Procs with Transform ()
- Extra movement speed (Use this to avoid skill shots!)
- Ignore unit collision
- Good for engaging onto an enemy or escaping in general
To the Skies! / Shock Blast
Hammer Stance - To the Skies! Scales with AD
- Gap closer or escape
- AOE Damage/Slow (Tip: You can slow enemies by hitting minions or neutral monsters near them.)
- Can jump over pretty much all the thin walls

Example jump spots -

Cannon Stance - Shock Blast Scales with AD
- Get this if you're going to team fight at level 1
- Used with Acceleration Gate for long range harass
- Good for zoning
Lightning Field / Hyper Charge
Hammer Stance - Lightning Field Scales with AP
- AOE damage
- Returns Mana each auto attack (*Only in Hammer Stance)

Cannon Stance - Hyper Charge Scales with AD
- Strong for harass
- Great for sieging
- Strong burst
Thundering Blow / Acceleration Gate
Hammer Stance - Thundering Blow Scales with AD
- Knock back
- Good for knocking enemies away
- % Health damage

You can create distance by knocking enemies over certain walls. But be careful of accidentally displacing your opponent when your team is attempting to catch them.
Example of a bad knock back -

Cannon Stance - Acceleration Gate
- Movement speed for you and allies
- Used with Shock Blast for big damage
- 4 second window to fire Q through Acceleration Gate
(Tip: Acceleration Gate gives vision where it is placed; seen in the gifs above.)
Transform: Mercury Cannon / Transform: Mercury Hammer
Available at level 1. Jayce's ult allows him to proc his passive for a short duration each time it is cast.

Your first auto attack in Cannon Stance will lower the target's armor and magic resist. (10/15/20/25%)
You can tell when it's OFF or ON if Jayce's hammer is glowing or not.

The first auto attack in Hammer Stance will do bonus magic damage. (20/60/100/140)
You also gain armor and magic resist in this stance (5/15/25/35), so make sure to get into Hammer Stance if you may be taking some fatal damage. (Tip: Hammer Stance's bonus magic damage applies to turrets.)

Jayce's Combos

Jayce's Shock Blast + Acceleration Gate (Q - E)
The most important thing you should take into consideration while learning Jayce is to land his Shock Blast + Acceleration Gate combo. Being able to consistently land this is what separates a good Jayce from a great Jayce. With the nerf to Acceleration Gate's cooldown, landing your Q while sieging or preparing for a team fight has become even more crucial. Always aim for the enemy support or carry, doing so can quickly force them to back off leading to a free objective and/or a 5 v 4 for your team. When doing your poke you have two options, either Q and put your E up CLOSE to you; or if E first, you can walk around inside the gate for up to 4 seconds before firing. I would suggest the first of the two as it gives enemies less time to react to your shot.

Here's an example of the potential of consistent Q-E landing.

This has been mentioned in a few guides; a trick to landing your Q-E often is to face backwards, away from your opponent, then quickly fire off your Q-E at them. The way human psychology works is that when you do turn your back to an opponent, you give a false sense of security to an enemy. Naturally people expect to be engaged in a fight if their opponent is facing them, so using this against them is quite often all you need.

Another way to land your Q-E effectively is to fire from black spots in the map. These spots are areas of the map that the enemy can not see (unless it is warded). You mostly have these spots in Mid lane as compared to Top lane. Firing from these spots give enemies less time to react to a shot, especially if you Q-E instead of E-Q'ing. Jayce's Acceleration Gate shows in these black spots in a red tone, giving some people time to react. In Top Lane you have the brushes to fire from, so again, always try and Q-E so enemies have less time to attempt to dodge.

Here is an example of a black spot. You can fire from here after getting wraiths for harass or wave clear!

The Jayce combo
This combo is within range of your Q. The most effective way for you to output damage on Jayce is to start in Cannon Stance and do the following: Auto attack (apply % armor/mr reduction), W auto attack 2-3 times, Acceleration Gate + Shock Blast, R (Hammer Stance), Q to close the gap, auto attack (proc extra magic damage), and finish with E to knock them back. So again that is: Aa,W,Aa,Q-E,R,Q,Aa,E. (Aa = Auto attack) By doing this combo you effectively stack the extra damage from and while still putting all your abilities to use.

Here is a quick demonstration of the combo. (I personally like using my gate throughout the combo, everything still applies.)

Champion Matchups

Aatrox
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Always make sure you knock him back when he Q's onto you, kite and harass him afterwards. Be aware of his W, because the effect from it procs every 3rd auto attack. If you do find yourself going all-in against him, make sure to Ignite him at the beginning of the fight, it will reduce the heal he receives from his W. I max Q>E>W against him because the % Health helps chunk him down quick in an exchange. (Tip: Always keep track of his passive is on cooldown.)
Ahri
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Since the Ahri nerfs you can out-trade her as long as you can dodge her E. You have the most opportunity to kill her pre-6 before she gets her ult. You can harass her with auto attacks in lane, so only Q onto her if her E is on cooldown, because a decent Ahri will land her charm since Jayce leaps in a straight line. Be cautious once she is lvl 6, she can close the gap and burst your down quickly if you leave yourself open to her R-E. I take Q>W>E against her because she is susceptible to auto attacks in lane, and is a wide open target pre-6 once her E is on cooldown.
Akali
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

The most effective thing to do is harass and kite her in lane. Early lane favors you, she will not stand up to your auto attacks pre-6 so take advantage of it. Keep track of her W's cooldown because she can use it to avoid your damage or going stealth so you can't jump onto her. Once she hits lvl 6 and starts stacking her ult up, she is potentially dangerous. So try and kill her pre-6 or shove her out of lane, if you do fight however, Ignite her right away to reduce her healing. I take Q>W>E vs her because it has the most kill potential against her in the lane phase.
Anivia
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Jayce vs Anivia can go either way. If you can avoid her Q using your mobility, you can out-trade her easily. If it lands however, you'll take a lot of free damage. Be careful about her level 6, she can proc her E's double damage on you with her Ult since you may be in range of it often. Try to poke and harass her from a distance, soften her up before going all-in, it is the safest route to take because you avoid the chance of being bursted by her. I take Q>E>W against her, I'd rather have % Health damage than stand in front of her to get stunned. (Tip: Always keep track if her passive is on cooldown.)
Annie
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Annie can be a breeze or she can be a complete nightmare. Just make sure you are aware of her passive's stacks because if you do so, you can time when you can all-in her or not by avoiding her stun. Keep track of the cooldowns of her abilities, her E's shield being an important one. The shield gives her bonus armor and magic resist, so the 5 second window you get while this is down is a good time to jump onto her. I take Q>W>E against her.
Brand
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This match up depends on the player, but Jayce's kit allows him to win the trades against Brand. If Brand lands his combo correctly he can stun you during your combo. Soften him with poke and use your mobility to dodge his skill shots. His Q being the most important one to dodge because if he has his passive on you, you will be stunned and are most likely dead. I would suggest waiting for his Q to be on cooldown before jumping onto him, because a decent Brand can land his Q on you since Jayce leaps in a straight line. I take Q>W>E against him and stay behind minions, he is susceptible to auto attacks.
Cassiopeia
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Cassiopeia can do a lot of damage in a short amount of time. Use Jayce's mobility to dodge her Q's and/or W's so her E doesn't get the CDR. Keep in mind that she gains movement speed if she lands her Q on you. If you are successful in dodging her skill shots, you can easily go all-in on her and kill her. I take Q>W>E against her because she has no escapes and you can auto attack her to death.
Chogath
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Chogath's natural sustain from his passive helps him stay in lane against you. The best way for Jayce to kill an enemy Champion that can naturally sustain is to be very aggressive and attempt for a kill early. Pay attention and use your mobility to dodge his Q, make sure to have your W up before he silences you with his W. Be aware that his E can hit you if you stand behind your minions that he is auto attacking. Play aggressive and don't let him sustain, I take Q>E>W to chunk him down quick early.
Darius
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

A good Darius can kill you quickly, so be cautious about getting to close too him. The best thing to do is kite and harass as much as possible. The main thing to focus on is to dodge his E. If you're pulled in, you must knock him away immediately or you're most likely dead, so use your mobility to avoid it! If he does miss his E however, you are free to harass him with auto attacks for the duration of its cooldown. I like to bring Q>E>W against Darius because I'd rather have my Acceleration Gate up more often when I need it.
Diana
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This match up became a lot easier after Diana's W got nerfed. This is basically the same thing as the Akali lane, but you can dodge her Q now. As long as you do so successfully you can harass her with auto attacks freely pre-6. Be careful of getting to close to her though, her E will suck you in and slow you, if this does happen, knock her back asap. Basically soften her up with auto attacks and all-in her for an easy kill. I take Q>W>E in lane against Diana because she has no answers to your auto attacks.
Elise
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Elise can be difficult to all-in because of her kit. She can stun you with her E during your combo, her spiderlings can block your Q's, and she can Rappel to safety avoiding your knock back most often. So be cautious engaging onto her, if you can dodge her E however, rush your damage onto her before she's forced to Rappel out. I take Q>W>E against her most of the time because you out-sustain and out-trade her in lane by doing so.
(Tip: Elise can Rappel to enemy wards that are in her vision i.e. Pink Wards)
Fiora
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Fiora's kit allows her to reengage constantly onto Jayce and her W blocks and reflects your auto attacks. Be cautious and try to knock her away after she's used up the 2nd leap on her Q. After that you can kite and harass her as often as you can. You can bait her to waste her W by auto attacking her and cancelling your auto attack just as it begins, making it not go through. If you successfully do this, you may openly harass her. I take Q>E>W against her because I'd rather have % Health damage than having one of my auto attacks potentially go to waste from her W.
Fizz
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Fizz can be a tricky champion to fight, though he is really vulnerable to Jayce's kit. He can dodge your poke with his E and engage onto you with Q. Just keep in mind that Jayce can close the gap with Q if Fizz jumps away with E. If he does use his E to harass onto you, you can avoid the damage by using your mobility via Acceleration Gate and/or Ult. So as long as you land your skill shots and fight him early, you should win the trades. I take Q>W>E against him because once his Q is on cooldown he really has no answer against you.
Garen
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

You can kite and harass Garen easily using your Acceleration Gate and Ult. Just make sure he doesn't get in range to Q you, knock him away as he approaches you for free harass afterwards. If you do decide to go all in against him, make sure his E is down and/or his W is down as well, this will make for an easy exchange that should lead to you killing him. I take Q>E>W against him because he naturally gains armor and magic resist through his W, so having the % Health damage from your E is an effective way around this.
Gragas
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Make sure you kite and harass, he's a big target for your Q-E combo. His Q's are relatively easy to dodge using your mobility. If his Q misses and you jump on him, he'll most likely have to use his E defensively to escape. Remember, his E's cooldown is not halved if he doesn't touch anything with it, keeping track of this cooldown will give you a bigger window of opportunity to positively trade with him. I take Q>W>E against him because he is pretty open to auto attacks. Always try and fight him while his W is down, there is a small window of about 5 seconds to do so during early levels!
Heimerdinger
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Heimer's rework has made him very powerful, and very scary for Jayce to jump onto. So keep in mind that you may take a lot of damage from his turrets if you do decide to fight him. Try and harass him from long range, farm, and wait for ganks from your Jungler is what I would recommend. I take Q>W>E against him.
Irelia
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set]

Irelia's kit is a tough match up for Jayce, but she can easily be outplayed. If she doesn't refresh her Q by killing the target she initially hit it with, you're free to harass her without taking much punishment. Keep in mind her E will stun instead of slow you if she's low and you're not. Be aware she does true damage from her W so be careful if she jumps you, knock her back immediately if she does. I take Q>E>W against her because not only do you get % Health damage, you get your knock back more often, as well as having extra movement speed from your Acceleration Gate to disengage from her when necessary.
Jarvaniv
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Jarvan's E-Q combo can really make it a hard lane. Knock him away asap if he lands it onto you, once he's 6 be aware he can reengage you with his ult. Try and wait for his shield to be down if you do fight with him. Poke, harass and keep your distance to win this lane. I max Q>E>W against him most of the time.
Jax
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This match up one is really on the player. Try and knock him away after he E-Q's onto you, preventing the stun. After that he becomes free for harass. If he lands it however, you're going to take a beating. Always remember that Jax's E will do more damage to you if you attack him during the dodge. I take Q>E>W vs him because I'd rather take straight up % Health damage than for him to potentially dodge my auto attacks.
Karthus
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This match up depends if the Karthus player is really good or not. If he misses his slow, you can naturally all-in him, just be careful about spending to much time in his E. For the most part you can auto attack him, and even if you get slowed by his W, use your Acceleration Gate and Ult to nullify the slow. I max Q>W>E vs him.
(Tip: You'll take less damage from his Q if you're bunched with your minions.)
Kassadin
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

(He wasn't banned?! Joke. hahaha...) Ahem, during lane phase Kassadin is really susceptible to auto attacks, making Jayce a nightmare for him. Once he is 6 however, he can engage or escape from you easily with his ult, but he'll still be in range for your Q-E combo. Harass him early with auto attacks, because you will out-trade and out-sustain him. I max Q>W>E against him because auto attacks can't be silenced.
Katarina
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

The only reason Katarina can stay in lane with Jayce is because she is Manaless. If she E's onto you, you're free to openly harass and punish her. If she ults, you can quickly stop it with your knock back. This is an easy lane and you should not lose it. I max Q>W>E against her because she is vulnerable to auto attacks.
Kayle
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Kayle is generally an easy match for Jayce. Make sure to wait for her E to run out or her Q to go on cooldown, and you're free to harass her. Use your mobility to nullify the slow from her Q! Everything about Jayce's kit allows you to out-trade her, so just be cautious of being baited and be aware if her ult is up or not. I max Q>W>E against her, because you will out auto attack her once her E goes down.
Kennen
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

You must absolutely make sure to pay attention if his passive is on you, because if you don't, you may get stunned trying to engage on him. Depending on how the enemy Kennen builds is how this match up will go. If he goes AP you can chunk him down most of the time. If he goes AD he may out-trade you in lane, making him a difficult match. Always keep track of his E cooldown and if his W's passive is up or not. (You can see this if his shuriken visually changes.) I max Q>W>E vs him.
Khazix
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Khazix is an easy lane as long as you're the one who pulls the trigger first. He and Jayce have big kill potential early. Harass him hard early with auto attacks, making for an easy kill. If he starts E and leaps onto you, just knock him away into free harass with auto attacks. I max Q>W>E against him.
Leblanc
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

She can be difficult because of the angles she can approach you from. Be careful about jumping onto her and getting rooted by her E and/or getting silenced by her Q-W. Poke her down and harass as much as you can, she becomes an easy kill once you have softened her up a bit. Max Q>W>E against her because she can't silence auto attacks.
Leesin
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Lee Sin can be tough if let him harass you often. Try and stand behind minions so they block his Q, if he does land his Q on you, knock him away asap or else you'll take a lot of damage. His only way to effectively harass you is his E, so you can kite and harass him throughout the lane. The shield from his W can only stop so much damage, so I max Q>W>E against him.
Lissandra
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Lissandra can be tricky to get around; she can root you with her W if you jump onto her. Make sure to dodge her Q and keep in mind that it shatters upon hitting your minions (which causes shrapnel to travel further than normal range). Remember, she will still be in range of your Q-E even if she escapes with her E most of the time. I max Q>W>E vs her.
Lux
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Avoid the snare from her Q using your mobility, after that, she is open to poke, harass, and an easy kill. If you do intend to jump on her, just don't forget about her shield. Just be aware that if she does land a Q,E, or ult on you, she can proc her passive for free damage on you. I max Q>W>E against her, auto attack her often for an easy kill in lane.
Malphite
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This match up is not as bad as it seems. Jayce's E likes to chunk Malphite down quite fast. So just keep in mind that his passive has a 10 second cooldown, and make sure to get rid of the shield before jumping onto him. Also know that the armor he gets from his W lasts for 6 seconds, so try and wait for that to be down as well. This lane is all about timing your skills to his cooldowns, after that, you can win it easily. I max Q>E>W to get % Health damage in.
Morgana
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Morgana is another match up where it depends on the player. Don't Q onto her if her snare or ult is up, because you'll end up getting stuck in her W. If you can dodge the snare before she gets level 6, you're free to harass and jump on her. You should be able to force her out of lane at that point. I max Q>W>E vs her because she is vulnerable to your auto attacks. (Tip: Morgana's E will prevent your knock back but not the damage.)
Nasus
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

The recent nerfs to Nasus's passive hurt his sustain in lane. Use your mobility to counter his W and you will be able to kill him in lane once you have softened him up a bit. One full combo + ignite early should be an easy kill. I max Q>E>W against him because the % Health damage helps chunk him against his ult and sustain. (Tip: Ignite does not work against his Ult)
Nidalee
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Nidalee used to be a problem for Jayce, but with the recent changes to her, you can take a spear or two and not get insta'd.
You're able to out auto attack her early and can jump onto her freely pre-6. She is an easy kill early, so force her to use her E defensively so she runs out of Mana. Dodge the spears, and you'll be okay. I max Q>W>E against her making trades a breeze.
Olaf
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Olaf can be pretty dangerous, the sustain from his W and true damage make him scary for Jayce. You're able to knock him away pre-6, but once he has ult, you become a sitting duck against him, and you will not out-trade him at that point. Land your entire combo and you might be able to kill him. Basically, try and kill him before 6, or else you're going to need help. I max Q>E>W vs him to chunk through him as fast as possible.
Orianna
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

The scariest thing about Orianna in lane is her passive and shield. She can trade equally with you in auto attacks if she has her shield up. Always keep in mind her shield gives her bonus armor and magic resist. Fight her only when her shield is on cooldown. Always use your mobility to dodge her Q-W combo. I generally max Q>W>E against her.
Pantheon
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Pantheon has an insanely strong early game. Please be careful about being all-in'd by him at lvl 2 or lvl 3. When he stuns you with his W, immediately knock him away to disrupt his E from doing max damage. Always try and take his passive out before jumping and fully committing onto him. Nonetheless, I max Q>W>E vs him because he can only block so many of your auto attacks.
Quinn
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Quinn can be really annoying to fight in lane. If she times it correctly she can vault (E) during your Q, completely displacing you and leaving you open for harass. Try and jump onto when her E is on cooldown and/or you dodged the blind from her Q. I max Q>E>W vs her because I'd rather get a solid % Health hit on her than potentially missing all my W's auto attacks.
Rammus
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Rammus in lane is a bit cheesy, but not to be underestimated. He's a natural tank and his W reflects damage to you. He is very open to be killed though, just be careful because he will taunt you with his E when you jump him. Shove against him and roam if you cannot kill him. I max Q>E>W vs him because the % Health is better than auto attacking yourself to death.
Renekton
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Jayce vs Renekton can go either way. You can avoid him by using your gate to get away from his E and W stun. Kite and harass him effectively through this and you will win the lane. If you jump onto him, make sure to knock him back right away, or you will be stunned by his W. Also keep in mind that he will not get the second part of his E if he does not pass through a target. I max Q>E>W vs him because the % Health works well against his ult.
(Tip: Ignite does not work against Renekton Ult)
Rengar
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Rengar is very powerful against Jayce, but not unbeatable. He can reengage onto you in Top lane if you're pushed even just a little (especially with the 3 brushes in S4). Try to stay back and harass him as much as you can. Stay aware of his cooldowns, ferocity stacks, and if his W's armor and magic resist is present if you do intend to engage on him. I max Q>W>E vs him so I can soften him up for a kill. Be sure to Ignite him if you do fight because his W can heal him.
Riven
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Jayce's kit allows you to outplay Riven. Keep track of how many Q's she has available and if her shield (E) is up. Force her to use her E defensively to block your auto attacks. Doing so eliminates one of her gap closers. If she attempts to engage, knock her back immediately and get out with your gate. You can kill her pre-6 if she oversteps her boundaries, but be cautious of being all-in'd by her at lvl 6. I max Q>W>E vs her because she is easily kiteable.
Rumble
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This one, like always, depends on the player. You can avoid most of Rumble's E slow and Q damage using your mobility. Harass through his W and he becomes a punching bag for you. You must keep track of his passive; he will do more damage and shield more if he is 50+ (yellow) heat. Keep in mind that he will be silenced for 6 seconds if he overheats but his auto attacks will do more damage. Use this window to harass him freely. I max Q>E>W on him most of the time because Rumbles tend to rush an Armguard vs Jayce.
Ryze
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

With the nerf on his range he's become a walk in the park for Jayce. He's basically a sitting duck for you all lane, his W (which has a huge cooldown) is the only thing that may slow you down before killing him. He simply will not out-trade you in damage. So land your skills and try not to get baited into anything. I max Q>W>E vs him.
Shen
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

You can kill Shen in lane only if he stands in front of you all day. Always be aware of when his passive or W is up, because when he engages onto you with his E, it can mean the difference between winning the trade or not. Other than that, just farm the lane and try to stop his ult with your knock back if possible. Always shove the turret if he appears elsewhere on the map. I max Q>E>W against him for good % Health damage.
Shyvana
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Shyvana is surprisingly not too bad of a match up for Jayce. Her W can be countered with your knock back and gate, always kite and poke using your speed against her. You should be able to soften her up and stop most of her damage from getting to you, so just be aware of her natural tankiness from her passive. Always be aware of the cooldown of her W and/or Ult as she can use these to engage onto you. I max Q>E>W for Shyvana.
Singed
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

The only problem I have with Singed is when he slows with W and Q's, and you attempt to knock him back, you'll both fly backwards at the same time. To avoid this, use your Acceleration Gate and Ult to make him your punching bag. He's easily kiteable, making for an easy kill. If he does proxy against you, call for your Jungler and/or just free farm his wave. You will be able to kill him early if you kite and harass properly. I max Q>E>W vs him because the % Health damage is essential.
Swain
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Swain can be really annoying in lane because of his E-Q combo. But as long as you can dodge the snare from his W you can get solid damage on him and win the trades easily. Always use your mobility to get around his W, you can even dodge it by jumping onto him with your Q. I max Q>E>W vs him, chunk him hard and fast.
Syndra
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Anyone who can knock Jayce away is a dangerous opponent. Syndra's E can stop your combo and leave you vulnerable so be careful! Try and fight her when her E is on cooldown and/or you dodged it. Be cautious about going in when she's 6, because the burst from her ult is very dangerous. I max Q>W>E vs her, try and get in and out as quickly as possible to kill her.
Talon
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Talon is pretty easy, use your mobility to dodge his W, and when he E's onto you, punish him once you are no longer silenced. He's open to harass all lane, so he should be a breeze as long as you keep your guard up. I max Q>W>E vs him, you can't silence auto attacks.
Tryndamere
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

This lane isn't too bad, just knock him back if he E's at you. For the most part he's open to your auto attacks throughout lane, so just be aware of his passive. Killing him pre-6 isn't to difficult, you can force it with a full combo + ignite. I max Q>W>E vs him, as he is easy to kite and harass.
Twistedfate
Difficulty
Favors You
et[/b]

Pay attention to his W (whether he picks Red, Blue, or Gold), focus and dodge his Q. Once his is on cooldown, you're open to harass him. Make sure to ward the river to keep track of where he may be ulting. As a general tip, if he ults and you absolutely can't follow him, make him pay by shoving his turret. I max Q>W>E vs him, he has no escapes so it's an easy kill for you throughout the lane. (Tip: You can E him to stop his ult)
Veigar
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Veigar is simple, as long as you avoid his E stun, and you can out-trade him easily. Use your mobility to avoid this stun, keep in mind it has 600 range but has a huge cooldown. He has no escapes so use this window of time to kill him! I max Q>W>E vs him.
Vladimir
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Vladimir's natural sustain from his Q can keep him in lane against you. The way around opponents who naturally sustain is to go aggressive and all-in them asap. The cooldown on his Q is high early levels so take advantage of this and force his W defensively. Once that is down, force an all-in and kill him. I normally go Q>E>W vs him.
Volibear
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Try to stay away from him and avoid his Q by using your Acceleration Gate and Ult. This is a ranged vs melee lane, you are more mobile than him so use it to your advantage. If you end up going all-in vs him, make sure to Ignite him during the fight to counter against his passive. I go Q>E>W against the bear.
Wukong
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

First thing is to be aware of his natural tankiness from his passive. You should always be careful about wasting anything on his W clone. Knock him back asap if he E-Q's onto you, harass him while these are on cooldown. As long as you kite and harass him while keeping track of his E cooldown, you can kill him. Always try and get a good combo off early, and use your minions to your advantage in this lane. I normally max Q>E>W vs Monkey King.
Xerath
Difficulty
Favors You
Skill set

Xerath vs. Jayce is a pretty even lane. You both have long range poke and ranged auto attacks. Avoid getting stunned by his E and/or dodge Q afterwards. If you do so, you can get great damage off onto him, winning the trade. Keep in mind when he anchors himself with W, attempt to avoid his next attack and if you are successful, all-in him from that point. I normally max Q>W>E vs him as he has no escape.
Yorick
Difficulty
Favors Enemy
Skill set

Yorick is an annoying Champion to deal with as Jayce. Just sit back and farm, make sure to kill his E ghoul, this is the one that heals him.You must make sure you harass him often all while killing this ghoul. If you do so effectively he becomes a quick kill for you, if not, farm and wait for your Jungler. Just keep track of his E cooldown no matter what. I normally max Q>E>W vs him.
Zac
Difficulty

This is a pretty easy match up for you actually. Make sure you step on his blobs from his passive, it will disrupt his sustain in lane. As long as you kite and harass him, you can chop him down quickly. I max Q>E>W vs him so you can chunk Health out of him effectively.
Zed

Always make sure you pay attention to Zed's W cooldown. It has a long cooldown, so use this time to harass him. When he ults, you can avoid a lot of the incoming damage by knocking him back immediately with your E. A lot of Zed players will rush lvl 2 and will attempt to all-in you for the kill. So as long as you play safe and don't let that happen, you should be able to harass and kill him pre-6. I max Q>W>E against him.
Ziggs

Ziggs can be tricky at times, he can auto attack just as hard as you because of his passive, and basically has the same poke range as you with his Q. He can disengage with the knock back from his W and E slow, so keep this in mind when you try to jump onto him. Like always, use your mobility to dodge his skill shots and you should be fine. I normally max Q>W>E against him.
Zyra

Zyra's plants can block your Q-E poke, and if you go onto her, expect to take decent damage from her Q - W. Use your mobility to avoid her E snare. If you successfully do that, then you are open to harass her. She has no escapes so use this to your advantage; close the gap and all-in her early for an easy kill. (Tip: If you kill her during a close trade, don't forget about her passive that could kill you if you don't dodge it.) I normally max Q>W>E against her.

Mundo can be quite the champion to fight in lane. He naturally sustains well and becomes just a farm lane between you two. As long as you dodge his Q's you can use your mobility to kite and harass him. If you do want to kill him make sure to use your ignite and be careful of chasing to far while his Ult is up. I max Q>E>W against him because the % Health damage your Thundering Blow provides is just the right thing you need to kill him.

Please kill this stupid rat thing. As long as you are aware of his blind from his Q, then you can easily out-trade him throughout the lane. Use your mobility to kite and harass him to counter his W. If you can do this then you will win the exchange. I max Q>E>W against him because I'd rather take the % Health damage then have my auto attacks potentially blinded wasting my W.
Yasuo

Yasuo is a walk in the park for Jayce. After playing against many in D1 Solo Q, you can out trade him quite easily in lane. Just keep track of his shield from his passive, make it go off and run out before you engage onto him. You can knock him back mid dash to completely disrupt his entire movement. Make sure to keep track of his Q's 3rd whirlwind attack, use your mobility to dodge this as its damage can stack up on you, as well as give him something to ult off of. I found myself maxing Q>E>W against him to just shove him away as hard as possible if needed.

VELKOZ NOT KOG MAW! (No pictures and stuff yet in Editor ): )

This guy is really easy for Jayce. He has no escapes! Always try and dodge his E, which is his knock up, it's the only thing standing between you and him. Don't worry about getting slowed by his Q, you're mobile enough to close the gap anyways. If his W hits you, make sure to get out of it so the 2nd part of it doesn't hit you as well (adding up his stacks on you). He dies fairly easily, so play smart, kite and harass, then all in when the opportunity is available.

Synergy

Jayce does well with Champions that benefit from movement speed and/or that can hard engage. In no particular order, these are some of those Champions:

Each of these Champions love to catch people, and Jayce's Acceleration Gate is a free for your team every 16 seconds or less with CDR. Being able to catch enemy squshies that have little to no escape can make for game changing plays. So please use this to the advantage of your team because doing so could lead to ultimately winning the game.

Early Game

As soon as the game starts, start running out of the fountain and buy as you walk out. If you are Mid lane, run to your lane and set yourself in a brush to see if the enemy may invade. Buying fast while running out of fountain is something you should get used to, it saves time and can potentially mean positive things for your team. Start with your E (Acceleration Gate/Thundering Blow), the extra mobility allows you to get in and out during the lane phase. Only get your Q at the start if you are invading 100% and see an enemy that you have the potential to kill.

Having your Acceleration Gate at level 1 allows you to kite and harass opponents in lane early using the extra speed boost it provides. Keep in mind that minions can and will hurt you if you stand in front of them while harassing an enemy. I strongly suggest that you shove the lane against opponents who may have difficulty last hitting under turret at low levels, such as Lissandra, potentially denying them CS. With the introduction to Trinkets, you can get out of most early ganks using this and Jayce's Acceleration Gate and/or Ult. Jayce can get out of most ganks early due to his mobility so remember to never stop using your speed boosts to your advantage. Doing so allows for free harass on enemies who are normally lane bullies themselves, such as Syndra or Riven. At level 2 get your Q so you can start your Shock Blast + Acceleration Gate combo. Though, keep in mind that if you do decide to use this at level 2 you will use 105 Mana, which is a lot early. Level 3 get your Q for increased damage from your Shock Blast + Acceleration Gate. As a note remember when last hitting under turret, let caster minions be hit once by the turret before attacking them, and melee minions be hit twice. Doing so allows you to effectively last hit under turret if you do find yourself pushed up that is.

At level 4 you will have all 3 of your skills. Depending on who you're fighting you may want to start considering going all-in and do your complete combo on them. Jayce's combo + ignite is usually enough to kill any enemy champion at this stage of the game if you started Doran's Blade. Just keep in mind who you are fighting in lane, know your limits, use minions, and your level advantage in your favor. You generally want to get your Tear of the Goddess (700g) on your first return back to fountain, so work on those last hits and/or get that early kill if possible. During this time though, you may find yourself being ganked, so if you warded properly you may see the enemy Jungler setting up beforehand. If your Jungler is in the area as well, make sure to ping for them to counter gank; counter ganking can turn the tide of any enemy gank in your favor. Most of the reason this works is because a lot of the times the enemy burns a lot of resources on you, allowing your allied Jungler to come in and aid you without much danger. If you time this correctly and bait out a gank, you can get yourself an early double buff from the enemy Jungler and/or even a double kill.

So let's say that the perfect world scenario happened, you got ganked, your jungler came to counter gank, and you guys got two kills off of your enemy lane opponent and the enemy jungler. Now what do you do? Don't just B because you want to look cool, ping your jungler to help you shove the wave so the enemy now loses experience and gold. Also, if you aren't to low, you can go do your wolves/wraiths camps afterwards as well. This is a great way to keep a good amount of income coming in which will push you into the lead very quickly. To push even further, you can possibly even do Dragon at this point because there is no one to really contest it against you. It's your choice after shoving the wave, do a camp, go dragon, or even go roam to another lane, all are potentially beneficial for your team.

Mid Game

By this point in the game you should at least have your Tear and Brutalizer and may be working towards a Trinity Force, Manamune, Last Whisper or maybe even Bloodthirster. If you can land your combo effectively you can essentially 1 vs 1 most people in the game at the moment. Also if you have farmed decently and/or have a kill, you will always pose a threat to the enemy at this point. Remember to keep stacking your Tear of the Goddess, you MUST have it done by at LEAST 25 minutes. Failing to do so can result in you not having your Muramana finished during a teamfight, which could be all the difference between winning and losing that fight for your team.

When your team starts pushing towards objectives such as Dragon, always utilize your poke and keep your mobility available for yourself and others. How you handle objectives depends on if you're Top or Mid lane. If you're Top lane, you can roam to mid or go to Dragon to possibly set up a 5 v 4 situation. If your Top opponent is the one who roams to mid or Dragon while you're Top, you must shove hard and get the turret if you think your team can hold out. If you would rather your team not fight a 4 v 5 however, get to mid or Dragon quickly to apply pressure and/or help secure objectives. If you're Mid lane, depending on who you're fighting, you generally want to roam to the side lanes to apply pressure. I would preferably roam to bot lane since it can set up Dragon opportunities for your team, and if you show Top, this could force a 3 v 4 situation at Dragon as well. As Jayce, you can keep an enemy team off of Dragon using your Q-E and/or disengage/engage quickly with your Acceleration Gate. Always make your speed boost available for an ally to use, it can save their life. When it comes to Dragon fights, try and apply hard pressure onto the enemy Jungler by poking them. By doing so you essentially mess with their head, which can make them panic and perhaps smite early, it's just natural for some people. On that note, you can actually try and burst down their Jungler and have your allied Jungler attempt to steal it (Make sure they have their Smite up!). Remember, by doing this you may have cycled through your entire combo, which could have potentially been used on the enemy Marksmen. So only do this if you feel your team can handle the enemy Marksmen and your goal is to try and get that Dragon with your Jungler.

So besides Dragon objective, you want to be getting Turret objectives too. As Jayce, you have a strong siege potential, which means you can bring down turrets rather quickly. When you do successfully roam and get your team a kill, be it Top or Bot lane, always shove the wave to the enemy turret. Doing so makes the enemy in that lane lose experience and gold. Afterwards you can either finish off the enemy turret, or if you did hit Bot lane, you can get Dragon if you Jungler is in the area as well. By doing these things you set your team up for success with global gold and pressure. Remember it is always up to you to win the game for your team, no matter what role you are playing, there is always something that you can do for your team. Especially in the mid game, warding properly to give vision to your team can mean the information you all need to win. There is no time to slack, always be doing something to help others, and you will find your success and win rate going up. But always remember to ward and communicate with your team to secure yourselves objectives.

Late Game

At this point in the game, you want to be grouping with your team. Jayce allows most teams to siege down any lane; give your gate to your team to engage or disengage if necessary. Remember, things you want to be prioritizing are Inhibitors or Baron now, so try not to show yourself alone bottom while your team and the enemy team is dancing around Baron pit because they could be forced to fight or give up a free Baron. This applies both ways as well, if the enemy appears bot lane while your team is at Baron, you can either force Baron or force a fight. Both are most likely favorable to you and winning the game. As Jayce I would recommend sticking close with your team and forcing objectives against the enemy team. Positioning yourself to siege down turrets and disengaging/engaging with your Acceleration Gate is ideal. Remember, your Hyper Charge will chunk turrets, Inhibitors, and enemy Marksmen very fast.

When the game passes 30 minutes or so, there are times when people start to lose their steam and lose focus. Remember to stay focused on what needs to be done to win the game. This is where people end up getting caught out because they weren't paying attention to where they were going for a split second. By this time in the game it is extremely crucial to place yourself properly on the map, as in set yourself up for objectives. If you're not maxed out on items, always ward properly and you may be able to catch someone out away from their team, if you do so, it usually means a free Baron, a forced 5 v 4, or just free turrets and inhibitors. This is the time of the game where knowing the positions of your opponents is most crucial, so WARD WARD WARD! I can't emphasize enough on how important this is, because it works both ways, if the enemy has vision control over your team, you're most likely going to lose. So get vision control for your team, even if all you can afford is one ward, just bring it to the field because it can mean the difference between winning and losing.

Teamfights

Teamfights are generally when both teams are fighting in a 5 vs 5 situation, which means that you not only have to keep track of your Champion, but 9 other Champions as well. Doing so will help you become a better and more successful League of Legends player.

The mid game teamfight(s) is where you are most of the time poking down the enemy and jumping onto the enemy carry and bursting them down as fast as you can. Depending on how the early game went, you must choose on who you must focus down, or if you'll be peeling for your allied Marksmen. These fights mostly happen near Dragon during this time of the game, so make sure you provide your mobility by placing your Acceleration Gate effectively so your team can also use it throughout the fight. Make sure to never be the one who initiates a fight because you will most likely be bursted down, so use your allied frontline effectively. If the fight breaks out towards later mid-game, you may have your Muramana fully stacked, so don't forget to have it activated during the fight. The mid game teamfights can determine who snowballs the lead into late game, so be aware of who needs to be focused down, if you need to peel for your Marksmen, and of general positioning (i.e. if 4 v 5 or mispositioning of enemy or ally)

The late game teamfight(s) often start near Baron or when sieging deeper turrets (i.e. Tier 2 turrets or even inhibitors). This is where you have to make one of two important decisions. You either sit back and kite/peel alongside your allied Marksman or you go in and assassinate the enemy carries. Assuming you have finished stacking your Muramana, your Hyper Charge auto attacks will deal an insane amount of damage at this point. If an enemy carry leaves themselves open, you can quickly close the gap with your Acceleration Gate. Three Hyper Charge auto attacks + Muramana will either kill them or force them out of the fight. If you choose to kite/peel for your Marksman, shred through the enemy tanks and kill them quickly with your Thundering Blow's high % Health damage. The outcome of these fights will determine who gains the lead to potentially win the game.

Final Notes

Jayce is quite the Champion to pick up and learn. He takes a bit of knowledge of the game and a lot of practice to play well consistently, but he remains a very powerful and solid pick. He's helped me climb through the ladder in Ranks and I hope he can do the same for you!

You're going to want to individually explain each rune (and any possible alternatives) along with the page. You also need more info in skills, where paragraphs are preferred.

Hey Valkrin! I've been testing stuff out to match the flow of S4, so I'll be sure to update!

January 25, 2014 - 07:08 PM #3

I've been watching you play and it seems you never build the triforce yourself? Update items chapter please.

January 24, 2014 - 09:42 PM #4

Bloodthirster adds way more damage to his Q and autoattacks, why take the triforce? Isn't your E and Q enough chasing/kiting potential? Jayce is already so versatile I don't feel the item is optimal.

January 9, 2014 - 03:20 AM #5

Runes, situational items, game phases all need more information. Also, late game and teamfights must be separate chapters.
