Champion Matchups

About the Author

First off I am Dareyck and am becoming more known as NA's Shaco solo queue terror. I began playing him at the start of season 3 because he is an extremely fun champion with unreal game pressure. He can win you any game no matter what scenario by directly outplaying your opponents. Currently I am Diamond Division 1 working on achieving challenger.

Pros / Cons

Pros
  • Incredibly strong ganks
  • Fast jungle clear time while staying on high hp
  • Great counter jungler
  • Ability to solo dragon at level 6 safely
  • A highly irritating split pusher
  • Ability to outplay your opponents causing mass "LOL" in all chat.

Cons
  • Shaco is extremely gimped and takes along time to recover if you lose your first set of double buffs early.(dying/fail ganking)
  • Snowball effect can work against you if you play poorly
  • A few minor counter champions can reveal Shaco causing the game to be much more diffidcult for you.(Lulu, Lee Sin, Twisted Fate)
  • Silence is just a pain, be aware when versing champions that can do this to you!
  • Hard to master.

A Further Explanation of Masteries

I go 21/9/0 every game.

In the offence tree I grab the ignite mastery along with the attack damage, armour pen, and critical strike masteries going down as they all compliment Shaco very well. Shaco shines the most early game and playing aggressive - so putting points into the offence tree is must in my opinion.

The 9 in defence is to minimize damage during the jungle camps and gain some additional life + smite mastery.

Further Explanation for Runes

After fiddling around with runes for awhile I have come to the conclusion that this page best suits my play style but also intensifies Shaco's strengths. Grabbing armour pen reds allows you to shred early game armour and once you build a brutalizer (assuming you build that path) the synergy is just amazing. The armour yellow and mr/level blues are standard as they are the most beneficial runes to run. The attack damage quints are to speed up his jungle clear and deal more damage.

Summoner Spells

I always run ignite, not only does it allow you safely secure first blood when invading the jungle, but it gives you bonus ad and ap when its off cooldown - always nice. Ignite has also allowed me to finish off champions who think they are safe after escaping a gank and trying to back at the tower. Quickly deceiving > throwing your 'E' and igniting them has secured me many kills.

A MUST, don't let anyone tell you otherwise. Learn to master last hitting with smite, Shaco is an excellent dragon/baron stealer.

Can be used to replace ignite, personally I don't get exhaust due to the fact that I feel its over kill. Shaco already has enough slow + fear if executing a gank properly that ignite seems more beneficial when 1v1 during a split push or finishing off enemies. Nothing sucks more than watching someone get away with 10hp!

Always start with W though.

Obvious reasons to max R - Get your ultimate at all levels available (6, 11, 16). Remember you can control your clone and it applies a slow. Be sure to control the clone to continue to attack the enemy if you deceive away or else it will just follow you and give you away. Against initiation champs with dashes (Jarvan, Xin, Hecarim) when both of you are low hp you can bait them to try and all in you. By activating your ultimate you avoid a lot of damage, instantly Q away (short distance) allow your clone to explode - auto attack toss your E and ignite. Works like a charm

Maxing E first gives you the most benefit, not only does it scale in more damage but it applies a slow ONLY when you have it OFF cooldown. Save this spell to last hit or slow them after they flash or are capable of escaping. Never open with it unless you are sure it's going to be a kill.

Maxing W second gives your boxes more durability and damage + fear duration. Get this as it helps your jungle and overall presence of the map

Max Q last. When deceiving remember to act unpredictable and when going for ganks remember you can still proc the critical strike regardless if you are in stealth or not , as long as you still have the deceive buff. This means placing a box behind an enemy and then auto attacking him can set you up for a higher probability of a kill.

Attack as frequently from behind as possible. This means minions as well.

Item Builds!

Always Start hunters-machetehealth-potion5
First trip back ideally is 825 gold formadreds-razorsboots-of-speedsight-ward
If you have enough for wriggles and dragon is available get Wriggles first, otherwise buy mobility and begin focusing on ganking until you have enough for wriggles.boots-of-mobilitywriggles-lantern
If you are ahead and the team is squishier than normalthe-brutalizeryoumuus-ghostblade OR if the team tanked out, begin split pushing and causing mayhem upon the enemy team. zealstatikk-shiv Overall both these items first build competent give you strong midgame power before you complete the actual item.
After completing one of the two offensive items above I build warmogs-armor. In the state warmogs is in as of now it's most beneficial and getting the giants-belt adds to your ability to sustain and deal more damage.
Making it past this state of the game is rare if playing a well executed Shaco however I normally build hexdrinker next. I build this item later in the game recently because the lack of magic damage that is normally being picked. It also gives Shaco more damage and tank ability to stay in the enemies face.
I finish the build off by purchasing guardian-angelfor the soul purpose that you can initiate fights, cause enemies to blow tons of CD's on you (hopefully using your ultimate and living as long as possible). After dying you should have your deceive back up which makes this item more useful because unlike other champions if you do die and the enemies are waiting to 'spawn kill you' by spamming Q the likelihood of you living is actually pretty successful.
Now that you have tons of tankiness a second life and enough damage to scare the hell out of the enemy AD carry / AP carry the last item depends on the flow of the game. If a lot of AD damage is being dished out randuins-omen is perfect as you can deceive in, be that ballsy champion and activate the item and begin focusing their AD carry, along with providing some slow to stop their bruisers from killing your AD carry. OR purchasing more damage infinity-edge ideally as it works well with his deceive ability.

First Blood tactic.

Sorry for bad quality. I did my best.

Also something important I missed - if the red buff is gone move towards their doubles - the chance of them being there and even lower hp is pretty likely!

Match Ups.

Difficulty - Easy

Apply early pressure - stay in his jungle and attempt to counter gank him early.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

Cho has a strong jungle and stays at high hp making him difficult to kill early, also don't get caught in his jungle as he can CC you effectively and applying a silence which makes deceiving away impossible.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Easy

He has a fast clear time but gets low early on, you can bully him early and effectively escape with ease.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

The only reason I classify it as medium is because he can catch you off guard and keep you CC'd well. Risky to invade if their teammates comes to help. As you may notice silence is Shaco's nightmare.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

Hecarim is just a power jungler with little weakness. However he is very snowbally so if you can shut him down early with the first blood or a good counter gank you can dominate him.
First Blood Tactic works here.

Difficulty Medium

Jarvan is strong, but if played correctly he will do nearly no damage as you can escape nearly all his spells if played correctly. He doesn't fall behind and is always useful.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Hard

Lee'Sin is considered to make Shaco useless. This is slightly true as he outclasses you because he can reveal you, follow up after you deceive if he lands his Q. It doesn't mean you are out of the game. Make sure you gank where he is NOT and attempt to outplay him. I've beaten plenty of LeeSin's. A neat trick against trigger happy lee sins is to bait his Q, as your deceive can drag him into your team.
I highly recommend you don't go for FirstBlood Tactic here unless you get lucky and catch him without cooldowns up.

Difficulty - Easy

Counter gank him a lot! You can bait his snare to pull him into your team, you can counter gank him easily, overall you should not have a problem
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

His jungle clear is relatively fast and he can be a threat early game. Try to counter gank him and be aware when he hits 6 as he can you ruin your day when you try going for a gank!
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

Rarely played but if you get caught by rammus during a gank consider yourself dead. Like LeeSin gank where he is not.
First Blood tactic works here. (try to save deceive for when he starts his powerball - jump infront to stop it)

Difficulty - Easy

Shen is a slow jungler but stays topped off. Avoid his taunts and you should be fine.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Easy

Fast jungler but weak ganks - you outclass her early game and should be able to snowball the game.

Difficulty - Easy

Medium paced jungler, not much threat early. Like Shyvana you should be able to snowball early game.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Easy

Same as Skarner.
First Blood tactic works here.

Difficulty - Medium

A trickier match up for sure, be careful for his counter ganks and I recommend you don't aggro his jungle. Gank where he isn't and go for early objectives.
First Blood tactic works here. (RISKY)

Difficulty - Hard

Vi is a powerhouse right now, fast jungle clear - insane damage and enough CC to make your day turn into a nightmare. Try your hardest just to ban this champ.
First Blood tactic works here. (RISKY)

Difficulty - Easy

AGGRO all day long, just gank a lot early game and snowball. Warwick is just weak... Very weak.

Difficulty - Stupid

Last but not least Xin. If you get the pleasure of facing Xin you have to hope he misplays A LOT! He outscales you in ganks due to his natural tankiness and flat damage. He beats you early game so don't get caught in his jungle being stupid and last but not least. BAN HIM
First Blood tactic works here. (If you want to give him double buffs)

How to : Gank, Drake and Steal!

Team Fights

This teamfight is what your objective is to do. Deal enough damage and zone out harmful damage. I was able to successfully randuins 75% of their team - this minimized the damage done to my team while zoning out Nidalee + Noct. Of coarse my team did an excellent job of positioning themselves to win the teamfight.

PS : We didn't teamkill Jayce. ;)

Final Comments

I'd like to thank everyone who has added me ingame and given me generous compliments! This is for you as promised.
I would also like to point out that match ups will be updated, I know I forgot some champions but I don't believe its fair to tell you how it will play out without playing against it myself.

If there are any further questions or something I missed please remind me! Also if you have any tips for me let me know! I know I can always improve.

Last but not least if you made it to the bottom of this wall of text thanks for reading/watching and I hope this guide helps you achieve the division you wish to be in! Thanks!
