Introduction

Why hello there! Blue Hwyaden here with a guide on: Lulu, the Fae Sorceress

Lulu is a ranged champion that deals mainly magic damage and is played mainly in the support role; however if played correctly, she can be played in mid and top.

This guide will attempt to explain to you, how to play and build Lulu as a support champion.

Pros:
+Strong poke
+Decent range
+Strong support throughout the game
+Strong utility
+Strong lane pushing ability

Cons:
-No Sustain
-Skill shots (Hard to hit 100% of the time)
-Uses a lot of mana quickly
-Weak early attack damage

Runes

Marks: Allows you to do more damage while auto attacking - despite Lulu having a low base attack damage, you can still get off a lot of auto attacks within a certain amount of time (plus more damage with your passive).

Seals:
One of the better options for seals since you have low base armour.

Glyphs: I like to take the 5% cooldown due to when having 21 utility in masteries you now have 10% cooldown level 1. 3 mana regen glyphs to help sustain more in lane and late game.

Quintessences: Gives you extra damage to deal in the early game.

21 Utility
This mastery page is designed for you to be able to harass well while being able to receive damage; one of Lulu's weakest base stat for bot lane is her armour - this page will allow Lulu to reduce damage from enemy auto attacks.

Summoner Sets

Primary Set
Due to Marksman taking , ignite is a perfect option to be more aggressive.
Exhaust & Flash
Take this if the enemy has late game champions e.g.

Item Builds

Starting Build(s)
Spellthief Start
2
Ancient Coin Start
2
I reccommend starting with .

The utility mastery makes turn into , which gives you good sustain to start with.
Final Build(s)
Standard Final Items
- Best boots to go for, allows lulu to do extra damage.

- Good mana sustain. Allows you to save a member of the team who may be in a spot of trouble.

- Gives you extra health to be able to survive as well as wards so you will never have to buy any for the rest of the game.

- Nerfed but still a decent pick up to add more mobility and damage.

- All of the stats given by this item is what Lulu needs, making this item very cost effective.

- One of my preferred GP10 items to start with for the mana sustain, synergises well with my primary rune page suggestion. Gives you extra burst in damage too.

- Replace with after buying , The warding totem gives you an extra ward to lane with while sweeping lens is better for late game.

Situational Items

Ionian Boots of Lucidity
These boots give your extra cooldown, however with the item build I have provided you get around 30%+ cooldown, so these boots are not always needed (unless you want to max out cooldown).
Locket of the Iron Solari
Gives the team overall good stats, possibly your only armour item that you buy. You should discuss with your jungeler who will buy this item.
Talisman of Ascension
A good engage and disengage item, gives you okay sustain and the longer the lane phase goes on, the more money you make.
Banshee's Veil
One of the best items if you need magic resist for Lulu.

Good against burst champions like .
Twin Shadows
The passive will help you engage better and this item also gives you more damage and magic resist.

I would say build OR
Zeke's Herald
It's okay.

Bit expensive for not that much of a gain.

Buy this if you're stuck and don't know what to buy as a last item.
Shard of True Ice
Strong team play item if used well.
Zhonya's Hourglass
Since there isn't many cost effective items to build for more armour, this item can be chosen since it gives armour and extra ability power for your abilities to do extra damage.
Randuin's Omen
My preferred go to armour item if I need to build armour on Lulu.

Gives Lulu armour and more HP to be able to survive.
Thornmail
Good item to get vs a whole team of attack damage champions that mainly use auto attacks to deal damage.
Frozen Heart
An item to go for if you need more armour. Pretty expensive for a support to go for.
Will of the Ancients
Buy this if you have 3+ AP champions. Not the best cost effective item however, but never the less, will work.

If you follow this path, then you should have no problem with 2 on 2 fights in the bot lane (unless they have some serious CC).

Her new changes makes her shield a lot stronger early on, and if you prefer doing more damage, look at skill order 2.

Skills

Pix, Faerie Companion
Pix is Lulu's companion throughout the game. Lulu's passive is activated when she hits with her auto attack. With this passive; Lulu is able to achieve decent poke (if all these bolts hit). The only downfall for Lulu is her weak attack damage early game.
Glitterlance
Very good ability to poke with. This ability makes harassing and pushing lanes very easy. The 80% slow advantage should be used as soon as you hit it (since it decays over time). Got slightly nerfed in patch 3.6, only the mana cost - this means you must be more cautious for when to use this skill in early levels (you can run out of mana even quicker).

Remember: Using on an enemy or ally then aiming can allow you to hit the enemy a lot easier.
Whimsy
The potential to disable an enemy champion from a fight for a whole 2.5 seconds. The movement speed buff can also help save an ally and/or help an ally engage onto the other team.
Help, Pix!
Helps you harass a lot easier in lane. If you level this second then it gives a decent enough shield for you or an ally.

Remember: Using this ability on an enemy allows you to hit at a longer distance.
Wild Growth
Allows you to save an ally or if an ally is in the middle of a lot of enemy champs, you can use this ability to knock up all of them. This ability also gives a slow aura that will make it difficult for champions to chase an ally or to run away from an ally.

Patch Notes

Patch 3.15

Lulu now does more damage via her auto attacks and passive.
Despite her ultimate being lowered in mana, she will still have mana problems at early level:

Summary: Pix, Faerie Companion had its base damage increased, Help, Pix!'s base shield strength was increased and Wild Growth's mana cost was lowered.
"Lulu's defensive capabilities were a little low for a traditional support, so we sent her to the gym to get buff. Like most supports, we're keeping an eye on Lulu as the preseason progresses."

Passive - Pix, Faerie Companion
Base damage increased to 9/21/33/45/57/69/81/93/105 (from 9/18/27/36/45/54/63/72/81)

E - Help, Pix!
Base shield strength increased to 80/120/160/200/240 (from 60/105/150/195/240)

R - Wild Growth
Mana Cost reduced to 100 at all ranks (from 150 at all ranks)

Early Game

Early game is all about laning and depending on your lane opponents - you should allow your ADC as much free farm as possible.

As Lulu; you can harass easily from range (auto attacks or spells). Due to a point into pickpocket, you should look to hit an auto attack every 15 seconds, or when ever it is safe to do so.

Should I Harass The Carry Or Support?

Who ever is out position is usually the target to go for, how ever you should avoid hitting your minions to stop the lane from pushing so early, therefore I would harass the support until I saw the carry move towards me, from here I would change focus to using my spells on the carry. However, everyone has their own preference when laning, I just recommend harassing as much as possible when it's safe to do so while playing Lulu.

Warding

Your main wards should be placed in the tri-bush (if red side), river bush and/or dragon and finally your opponents lane bush. Try not to spend too much money on wards unless fed or have double GP10. Buying ASAP will save you a lot of money on wards early on.

MORE TO COME

Mid Game

If enemy tower/both towers are down

If you have taken down the enemy tower or both yours and the enemy towers are down, you should look to push the lane 1 or 2 waves before moving up to mid to try and take down mid tower and/or secure dragon.

Your warding should now be deeper within the enemy jungle to allow full vision and not allow enemies to sneak up on you or your team mates.

As the support, you should be following your AD carry, making sure they are safe and allowing them to farm and roam without getting into danger.

Depending on how the game is going, pink ward dragon and baron to deny enemy vision on objectives. From here you should push out 2 lanes and all push up the remaining lane (e.g. push top and bot lane and all roam to mid and push as a team).

This is all situational and if no one is taking charge or no one has a clue what to do, you should explain that you need to take objectives (towers, dragon, baron, red and blue buffs).

If your tower goes down early

If your tower goes down early and/or goes down naturally because you're behind, you should stick with your AD carry as they farm it up until late game.

You should ward deep in your jungle and on dragon and baron since you are behind you don't need to be warding the enemy jungle until you push higher up.

MORE TO COME

Late Game

Late game your team should be focusing on team fights and objectives, rather than farming.

Objectives that should be focused on are; towers and baron.

You should move around the map as a team rather than individually going alone to ward or steal buffs etc (of course this won't happen every game because everyone has their own way of playing the game).

Avoid dying since the later the game goes on, the more amount of time it takes to respawn - even if you're worth no money to the enemy, you're still needed in team fights and/or defending the nexus.

MORE TO COME

Team Fights

Chasing

If your team is ahead and/or gets the upper hand in a team fight, and the enemy is retreating, using on a nearby minion or on a quicker ally, and then using to hit the retreating enemy can slow them down for your team to be able to catch up. If is available, either use it on yourself so you can catch up to use , or use on an ally with a stun/slow for them to be able to catch up.

Straight up team fight

In a straight up team fight, save to either disrupt their whole team if an ally is getting jumped on or is in a decent position to knock up most of the enemy team, or save it to save your AD carry if they get caught out of position. You should use to shield allies with rather than to cause damage. should be spammed as much as possible (as long as you have enough mana for if it has not been used yet). is hard to use effectively if more than one of the enemy team is fed and is jumping on your carry. You should save it for anyone who is chasing your AD carry or if you get a good position against the enemy team, you can use it on a tankier ally to be able to keep up in pace if the enemy has too many slows etc.
