Champion Matchups

Introduction

Introducing myself.
My name is Brandon and I support for Adrenalize gaming with Y So Tense. I am currently Diamond III.
I started maining support nami a few weeks after she came out. I sort of got tired of all the negative talk on her and just want to show what she is made of.

Currently 11 wins 1 losses in Solo queue play, averaging only 2 deaths and 16 assists with the 2nd Highest nami stats in north america on ELOBuff.

The information in this guide can be backed by, and relied upon by people who want to try to play nami and learn her. The information in this guide is coming from a first pioneer of nami and has experience to back it up. Feel free to comment, let me know what you think, add me in game for questions, etc.

Summoner Spells#2

Explanation:
Heal or exhaust are both completely viable. Like almost anything else in League of Legends, look at your team composition and who you are facing.

Skills

Passive: Surging Tides

Explanation:
Great for using to get back to lane quickly, harassing in lane, narrowly escaping death. Many say it isn't even noticeably, try facing a caitlyn or twitch that got TideCaller's Blessing casted on them and rushing at you in lane.

Q: Aqua Prison

Explanation:
This is an ability that takes a bit to get used to but has a huge upside. It cannot be cleansed, debuffed off of you in any way, is not affected by tenacity, and can hit multiple opponents. At level 1 get one point in it and you're set for the game in putting points into it. It has basically maxed stats at one point.

W: Ebb and Flow

Explanation:
Strong early to mid game heal and damage chain. Late game it isn't AS noticeable but all lane long it is very reliable in harassing, cleaning up if necessary, and sustaining.

E: Tidecaller's Blessing

Explanation:
Absolutely favorite ability in the game. It has such a low mana cost, procs your Surging Tides passive, and makes your AD carry or other teammates have auto attacks that slow and deal a good chunk of magic damage on hit. Ezreal's mystic shot, miss fortunes double up, and other physical damage skillshots and single target abilities will also proc Tidecaller's Blessing and deal the bonus damage and slow. It is such a fun and abuseable utility in lane early to mid game, and helpful in letting the AD kite late game.

R: Tidal Wave

Explanation:
Incredible ultimate especially in AoE team compositions. Being able to charge it up to the max range and hitting as many opponents possible is satisfying. It can have up to a 4 second slow, a big time knock up, and some extra magic damage. Best used when you are hard engaged with the team, slightly harder to hit on running away targets but really isn't that hard to aim at all. This is also super strong in lanes while your jungle ganks. Also can be used in two different laning ways. Land the Aqua Prison and then ultimate for double disables, or land Tidal Wave to keep them still then aqua prison afterwards. Great utility!!!

Strength Weakness Love

Strengths: (Maybe BEST SUPPORT EVER)
- While Aqua Prison's animation may seem like a knockup, it is actually only a stun.
A very important distinction between the two is that stuns can be cleansed by effects like Quicksilver or Cleanse while knockups cannot. Knockups are also unaffected by Tenacity.
- Only needs one point in Aqua Prison for it to be at full affect all game long!
- Strong heal (Ebb and Flow), early-mid game. Can also be used as harass and a finisher against enemies with the multiple jumps.
Again something that a lot of supports downplay is the heal and damage amount. Early to mid game it really is quite noticeable and a nice chunk of both offense and defense. The worst part of it is the mana cost which really isn't even that bad. Late game this isn't your every day amazing heal that will be noticeable, but neither are soraka's and other heals, they aren't ment to be.
- Tide Caller's Blessing is incredible. Very low mana cost, insane harass (see other chapter to see good lane combos) procs the Surging Tides passive, huge team player skill that lets the AD shine.
- Tidal Wave, and no it is NOT easy to dodge this unless your firing it at a moving team from an OBVIOUS location. Great knockup, some magic damage , and a pretty impressive slow. What people forget is that the further away you land it, the higher the enemies get knocked up; thus making the movement speed last longer! It is something that it forgotten quite frequently.
-Your half pony, half squid, half mermaid , whatever else is under the sea built into one.
-Nami is useful in 2v1 lanes, 2v2 lanes, any lane combo.

Weaknesses: (Honestly, I've had small problems with this support, people say mana problems? Play her correctly and it's not that bad.)
-Takes some skill and practice to learn her, 95% of players/supports say she is bad because they don't give the time they should into playing her, or just aren't a true support.
-Aqua prison and ultimate take a while to get down the timing for. Right now i can hit 3-4 people pretty easily.
-Not your every day mash-button-support. Cannot stress enough, must learn how to maximize her abilities, learn how Ebb and Flow work, etc.
- Can't clear waves as well as other supports.

GET DOWN HER SYNERGY. LEARN IN THE MIDDLE OF A TEAM FIGHT WHEN TO CAST WHAT, NOT BECAUSE THE COOLDOWN IS UP.

Things to Know About Nami's Abilities

----Passive Surging Tides
Surging Tides will proc on allies if:
-They are in Aqua Prison's area of effect.
-They are one of the 3 targets hit by Ebb and Flow.
-They are the target of Tidecaller's Blessing.
-They are in Tidal Wave's area of effect when it passes.

**Aqua Prison
---While Aqua Prison's animation may seem like a knockup, it is actually only a stun.
A very important distinction between the two is that stuns can be cleansed by effects like Quicksilver or Cleanse while knockups cannot. Knockups are also unaffected by Tenacity.
---Enemies in a bush that are hit by Aqua Prison will be revealed for the stun duration.

***Ebb and Flow can only hit a maximum of 3 targets. The initial target will determine the order of the bounces:
-If cast on an enemy champion, the spell will hit as follows: enemy → ally → enemy.
-If cast on an allied champion, the spell will hit as follows: ally → enemy → ally.
***Ebb and Flow will not bounce on minions.
-While Ebb and Flow will not target stealthed enemies or enemies hidden by the fog of war, it will still target nearby champions if she is afflicted by abilities like Nocturne's Paranoia or Graves' Smokescreen.

----Tidecaller's Blessing
-Can be cast on herself
-Abilities that proc on-hit effects (e.g. Gangplank's Parrrley) will also apply the magic damage from Tidecaller's Blessing. Ezreal's Q and other physical damaging spells like that will apply it. SO STRONG.
-Empowered attacks are not applied or consumed when attacking structures or wards.

****Ultimate Tidal Wave
-Its effect range is shown in the mini-map with green edge.
-To give an estimate of the range on Summoner's Rift: standing next to top lane's Blue Team inhibitor turret, if you launch the wave towards the lane's tier 2 turret, it will reach the jungle entrance to Blue buff area. This is also super strong in lanes while your jungle ganks. Also can be used in two different laning ways. Land the Aqua Prison and then ultimate for double disables, or land Tidal Wave to keep them still then aqua prison afterwards. Great utility!!!

When Do You Pick Nami??

- So much lane kill potential, so much range, so much lane harass and late game kiting ability with these Attack Damage Carries. Their range is strong and eat up TideCaller's Blessing so well. Varus and twitch don't get stuns (excluding the ultimate, even good WITH the ultimate for a sure Aquad Prison land) so the Aqua Prison is very helpful to land that extreme burst. Follow it up with ANOTHER disable in Tidal Wave later on. Your lane will be won very easily.

- You might question why an offensive type of support with someone like Kog'Maw. A lot tend to play defensive with him as your partner. Again, Nami's heal, stun, and TideCaller's Blessing lets Kog's OFFENSIVE be his DEFENSE. You will be such a bully you won't want to fight him. Offense = defense , always what I think of before going all out defensive.

- Miss Fortune's "Double Up Q" is a physical damage attack like ezreal's, gangplank's , etc. It will apply Tidecaller's Blessing, hence another good combination.

- You thought it was scary facing Nami or Draven when they aren't together, just imagine them together.

- These are the only AD Carries that she wouldn't excel in lane with. Of course she is good with anyone later on, but in the laning and mid game phase, there's really nothing AMAZING about this. Again, nothing BAD about this comp, just not pushing her early game abilities to the max.

HOW SHE MATCHES UP AGAINST OTHER LANES AND SUPPORTS.

- If he initiates on you in lane, you better get off an Aqua Prison at some point or you may go down. Late game she is more useful.

- If he initiates on you in lane, you better get off disables or you most likely will get hurt pretty bad. Just as useful, if not more, than his late game hook later on.

- Pretty similar if you look at their regular abilities (not spider carry form). Only difference is that nami has a heal. You should outlast and win. Nami has slightly more peel late game.

- Again, if you get initiated on in lane, you better get something off ASAP or your going to feel the pain. Nami is so/so vs hard early initiators, you have to keep your range and poke them out of contention. Again OFFENSE = DEFENSE. You hurt them before they hurt you, they will back off.

- Lulu is pretty good against basically anything in the game. This is a pure poke war and skill matchup between the 2v2s. If you can land a good Aqua Prison you may come out ahead. Her ultimate can be a nice counter to your Tidal Wave though. Equal peel late game.

- Note : her black shield will eat your disable and any magic damage nami puts out. You will have to work around it. It will be a Bind vs Bubble matchup as expected and a battle of skillshots. Equal Peel late game.

- In experience, I have won every single match against Sona. When your partner (hopefully caitlyn, twitch, varus etc) get Tidecaller's Blessing buff on them, it will make Sona either not want to poke, or try to trade, which will result in her becoming slowed and you getting off an easier Aqua Prison. Sona is one of the weakest defensive stat support. One aqua prison usually spells doom on her. FUN MATCHUP FOR YOU. Your peel late game is matched with ultimates, but nami has more to offer.

- Soraka poses absolutely no offensive threat to you. She does well if her AD carry does EXTREMELY well against you. Other than that you just get off free attacks on them all game long, focus the AD before you focus her, make her sit there and watch it. YOU WIN. You can peel better late game etc.

- Don't have too much experience against this. What i can tell you though is that he isn't a leona/alistar/blitzcrank type of initiate but is still a force to be reckoned with. His heal matches yours and he has the upper hand in land bullying. As long as he is aggressive and on the front line of minions, you are forced to throw your aqua prison on him and try to back him off by damaging. He is definitely the bully in lane but can always be outplayed as long as your partner is attacking him and backing him off. Later on your abilities are more useful and you can peel better.

- Her skillshot difficulty is almost the same as yours. You have a heal, she doesn't. You have a slowing and magic damage dealing buff, she doesn't. You have a slight speed buff, she doesn't. Zyra relies on the ability to damage you and snare you on point. You're ultimates are both good and are a close matchup in that department. Late game you have equal amount of peel. In lane you should win.
