Champion Matchups

Introduction

Welcome to yet ANOTHERRRR guide of mine which now features on everyone's favorite Boar I mean champion, Sejuani! (i wub u Bristle) But regardless, Sejuani got a few changes in her little remake and I might as well look over them and tell you how to build it just like the pros at probuilds.net! But despite stats (she has a very high winrate) and such, I still feel Nautilus and Zac (until nerfs trololo) do more damage and can tank better. But I suppose what Sejuani has is a destructive aoe stun ultimate and powerful slow.

Sejuani Pros:
Heavy amount of slows in her kit
AOE Stun for ultimate
Mobility from Arctic Assault
Lots of AOE damage
Extremely powerful slow(s)
Rides a boar

Cons:
Damage seems weak compared to other comparable junglers going the same build
Not that durable due to having virtually no durability from skillset
Mana intensive Q doesn't allow spamming it around the map like Zac can
W's short range means it's very difficult to get the full damage off

Masteries

Masteries are fairly standard 9-21-0, I made a few modifcations in the offense tree as we'll get 40% CDR eventually and we need attack speed from somewhere so Sejuani doesn't attack too slow early game. The only adjustment to the defense ones is I move a few points around into the slow reduction mastery which will stack nicely with the slow reduction that Sejuani has. Though if the enemy has few slows, you can feel free to swap these points to armor or magic resist.

Runes

Runes are as follows:

Marks:
Magic penetration for Sejuani's spells all of which do magic damage and have decent bases when used all together. I usually run attack speed marks honestly, I find being able to auto attack faster to be good but I'm unsure how much more damage it gets when compared to magic pen.

Seals:
Standard Armor

Glyphs:
Early game magic resist to make up for her weak early game to prevent taking too much damage in ganks or from invaders

Quints:
Movespeed as mobility is key.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

Fairly obvious again, smite is for jungling and flash is for additional escaping/engaging to get to people.

Skills

Passive: Frost Armor

Explanation:

Honestly the most boring passive ever created, there is little play involved with this passive. It's simply on whenever you hit something with a spell. Unlike some passives like Vlad's or TFs where there is some gameplay involved around it (like knowing that everyone on your team will eventually outscale with tf passive or building differently with Vlad passive) as it simply turns on whenever you hit anything with anything. Even the old passive Sejuani had gave some playstyle (like tapping each target to frost etc).

Q: Arctic Assault

Explanation:

A nice mobility spell with a high cooldown and high mana cost, it becomes more usuable when Sejuani hits mid-late game due to it's insane cost and somewhat high cooldown. It's a nice knockup at close range and does decent damage to even tanks. I like to not use this to get close unless it will hit as I feel like it's similar to Vi's jump which does damage and losing said damage will weaken her combo. Somewhat hard to use to get around unless you have blue because of mana costs but remember you can do trick gank routes with this if you have blue as you can evade wards by jumping into baron/dragon pit etc.

W: Flail of the Northern Winds

Explanation:

Your jungle clear spell, it does decent damage to monsters and such but will be hard to get the full dmg off on a champion unless you stick to them really well. Remember that it also resets your attack animation so time it after you've finished a swing. Also if you're farming waves or covering a lane, try to hit every minion with it to be more efficient and faster then cast frostbite or Arctic Assault to blow them all up.

E: Permafrost

Explanation:

A heavy slow from level 1, I like to level this last as the duration goes up only slightly per level and the damage is ok. The best way to use this spell is after your Q or W hits, if you're using this in conjunction with your ultimate, it's highly suggested not to use it until the stun is finished as the slow duration will tick while they're stunned. Since Frost lasts 4 seconds, you'll be able to cast frostbite after the stun ends anyway. Note that this spell is the one that gives frost so a point here is needed.

R: Glacial Prison

Explanation:

A nifty ranged ultimate which stuns if it explodes on a target or simply slows if it reaches it's full distance. To be honest this spell used to be crazy strong where it'd stun even targets that were around the aoe if it reached the extent of it's range. Now you have to be very careful or else the stun won't happen, but remember to have permafrost ready 2 seconds after the stun ends as it'll help your team catch up to the crippled enemies and hopefully finish them off.

Skill Order

There are actually two ways I've tried Sejuani, one where I max W first (here) and the other where I max E first. I've found that both ways sorta suck actually trololo. But honestly the damage just seems low and her clear is somewhat average moving towards mid-late game so I moved back to maxing W first as its easier to clear waves and such mid game and onwards.

So now I do:

R>W>Q>E

I put Q over E as Q gives a bigger damage increase towards Sejuani's iffy damage and E's slow at level 1 is huge anyway.

Item Builds

CORE:

Starting out:

Standard jungle items, if a invade happens or you get harassed in a level 1 skirmish or you take damage during a gank, it's always good to have health potions top your HP off regardless of what champion you have. Machete builds into what we want (spirit stone or razor but in our case spirit stone).

Next:

Standard start as we need regen for mana/hp since sejuani loses both fairly quickly and boots to roam around the map faster.

Next:
, or or

Spirit of the ancient golem is a very strong jungle item as it gives tenacity, cooldown reduction and HP for a nice price. The most important part in addition to the nice deal on stats is the tenacity which means we're allowed to go different boots (instead of merc treads all day every day). Ninja Tabi tends to be the safest as it scales all game and makes Sejuani very durable. Mobility is a slightly riskier solo queue style boots as it's useless late game but very strong at roaming and doing ganks early as it'll make Sejuani run extremely fast. If you can't get mobility early, I tend to skip it for Tabis or to get Tabis way later as you may also want to get another completed item before finishing the boots if you have a huge stash of gold on one of your buy back.

If the enemy has a fair number of slows, consider investing in boots of swiftness to further reduce it (when combined with masteries/passive, it can greatly reduce slows on Sejuani) as it can either save your life or make a gank easier because you'll be able to escape with higher movespeed due to the slow being weaker.

Next (get both unless support getting aegis, order is your choice):
into if needed,

You can pick which one to go for first but if teamfights are breaking out or if the enemy team has a heavy amount of Magic damage then I'd rush Aegis/Bulwark. This doesn't mean Locket is a bad item in those scenarios but Aegis does gives huge stats and is always active and it's stats don't level up as your champion levels like Locket does.

We love CDR and unless the enemy is full magic damage or something strange (in that case go Spirit Visage I guess), this is a very strong item against physical damage dealers and will greatly hurt their attack speed.

Finish:

This is just a final item in case you have massive amounts of gold as it'll do a decent chunk of damage on targets such as tanks, so you will likely do more to them as you'll have the burn damage from this constantly on them. Usually at this point you'll be dying at the same speed regardless of your 6th item as if they can get by the golem/locket/bulwark/tabi/FH combo then the last item won't really slow them down from killing you.

Final Comments

Hope you enjoyed this guide, I think Sejuani is an OK champion honestly, I figure her high win rate is due to her power of initiating rather than damage as a good player will win games from the initial engagement alone when done correctly. Thanks for reading but I apologize in advance if this guide wasn't as detailed as others as I just don't think I had the enthusiasm for this one like I did the others (Elise,Nunu,Cho etc).
