Champion Matchups

Introduction

Vayne is a very strong late game AD Carry that excels in 1v1's and can reposition herself due to one of her abilities. Her early game may be weak, but when Vayne hits that point in the game, she's stronger than anyone, and she can not be brushed off. In team fights, it's best to focus her, because she's going to be a hell of a problem.

Disclaimer: This is my first time making a guide on here, and I don't really know what I'm doing, but I'm here to give you something to follow off of. :D

About The Author

Who Am I?
Well, I play on the North American servers and I go by, "iKevin NA". I'm Gold 1 (Scrub), but that doesn't matter. I play a hell of a lot of Vayne. I didn't play her when she was originally released, but I played her from time to time in Season 2. She was my "go-to" AD Carry. In Season 3, I was in Silver III and played Vayne in a Normal game with a friend of mine who loves playing Leona/Thresh. She was really fun, and I decided that I wanted to Duo Queue with my friend. We went into a Ranked game, and immediately, my friend and I were dominant. In that week of playing Vayne, I had a record of 21-3 and went from 13W-11L to 34W-14L. But enough rambling, time for the guide.

Pros and Cons

Pros:

  • She's fun to play
  • Very strong late game
  • Does TONS OF DAMAGE
  • True damage
  • Can chase very well
  • Has CC
  • Escape mechanics

Cons:

  • Weak laning phase/Early game
  • Hard to "master"
  • Short range
  • Needs farm
  • ...Draven hurts.

Masteries

Explanation:
These masteries are standard. They're a bit different, though. The extra damage to minions will help to last hit, but also push, along with the extra turret damage. The masteries will help you push and last hit well. As for the rest of them, it's standard, or self-explanatory.

Runes

Explanation:
On Vayne, or any other AD Carry, I like to run the typical 9 AD Marks, 9 Flat Armor Seals, but the Glyphs are different. I got these runes from MVP Ozone Imp, if any of you know who he is, but if you don't, he is one of the top AD Carries in the world, and has recently won OGN. The Glyphs are 5 Flat Magic Resist Glyphs, and 4 Mana Regen Glyphs. The Magic Resist is self-explanatory as most supports are AP, they will harass you, not to mention that Magic Resist does not scale with levels, so taking the MR will help. I personally don't take scaling because the early MR will help against supports. The Mana Regen Glyphs are for the Tumble spam in lane. Now, it's not recommended to CONSTANTLY use your Tumble, but when you have to use it, the Mana Regen has you covered.

Now for the Quintessences, I like to use 1 AD Quint, and 2 Lifesteal Quints. The lifesteal will give you an easier time in lane if you get harassed, and the 1 AD is for early game and last hitting. You can take 6% lifesteal if you wish, but I prefer the 4%.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:
Alright, so all of the summoner spells on here are trash. You shouldn't be using any other summoner spell except for:

Barrier: Can save your life in you are in the face of danger. Used against low CC team.

Cleanse: Can remove hard CC's and Summoner Spells. Used against Hard CC team.

Flash: Best Summoner Spell in the game.

Heal: Similar to Barrier, or as JaeYoong (In Top 10 Challenger of Taiwan) says, a permanent barrier. Used against low or hard CC team. Helps laning phase.

Ignite is not necessary as the other summoner spells are much more useful. Teleport is useful, but you don't need it as an AD Carry.

Skills

Passive: Night Hunter

Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains 30 Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.

Explanation:

This is what makes Vayne's chasing potential so great. Only works when facing an enemy champion.

Q: Tumble

Vayne tumbles a short distance and her next basic attack within 6 seconds deals bonus physical damage.

The bonus is equal to 30/35/40/45/50% of her total Attack Damage.

Cooldown: 6/5/4/3/2 Seconds

Costs: 40 Mana

Explanation:

This is the bread and butter ability to Vayne. It has a low cooldown late game (2 seconds) and you can use it to position yourself, chase, harass in lane, and escape. It's a VERY versatile ability.

W: Silver Bolts

Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals an additional 20/30/40/50/60 plus 4/5/6/7/8% of the target's maximum Health as true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)

Explanation:

True. Damage. This ability helps you shred tanks, harass lane opponents, and it works very well with the double Phantom Dancers.

E: Condemn

Vayne fires a huge bolt, dealing 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) physical damage and knocking her target back.

If they collide with terrain they take 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) additional physical damage and will be stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Cooldown: 20/18/16/14/12 Seconds

Costs: 90 Mana

Range: 550

Explanation:

You can use this to knock an opponent away in a team fight. You can use this to knock an opponent away in lane to disengage. This ability has many uses. You can outplay an opponent with this by flashing and knocking them into your turret. The great thing about this ability is that you can use your to reposition yourself, so that you are able to knock them into a wall/structure and deal extra damage, as well as stunning them.

R: Final Hour

For 8/10/12 seconds Vayne gains 25/40/55 Bonus Attack Damage, Tumbling grants Vayne stealth for 1.5 seconds, and the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter is tripled.

Cooldown: 70 Seconds

Costs: 80 Mana

Explanation:

Steroid. Amazing steroid. Damage boost, Passive boost, and the stealth from using just makes her a very scary opponent to 1v1. The stealth in team fights will help you immensely and it's what makes her fighting so strong, not to mention the TONS OF DAMAGE.

Skill Order

> > >

Explanation:

Simple. is your repositioning skill and it increases the damage you do, not to mention the auto attack reset. is your true damage. Maxing it second will increase the % damage. isn't as important as the others because this costs a lot of mana and won't do as much damage as your other abilities, not to mention the long cooldown.

MVP Ozone Imp Way

Imp's known for his Vayne, and in solo queue, his skill order is:

> > > > >

He will proceed to max out , and then . His skill order is understandable as you will get the early damage and lower the cooldown on by a bit, and getting will give you the attack speed -->

Item Builds

The item build I have showed you works very well. This is how they do it over in Asia, and in North America, we solely focus on Lifesteal and Damage. Europe focuses on Attack Speed and Lifesteal, but in Asia, they focus on Attack Speed, Critical Strikes, and Movement Speed. I take Alacrity as it helps with the Movement Speed in general. You can take Furor if you want, it's more of a personal preference.

You can read it here: http://www.reddit.com/r/leagueoflegends/comments/1gqllc/a_whole_new_vayne_in_every_region_na_vs_eu_vs_asia/

There is another build that is used, and is familiarized by JaeYoong.

+ One Defensive Item (You can view above for the Defensive Items for Vayne)

Early Game

You want to farm so you can hit your mid and late game like a God. AD Carry is the most farm intensive role and you need to learn how to farm properly and well. Her early game isn't amazing, and in fact, she's very notorious for having a terrible early game. Just try your best to farm without getting harassed too much which could lead to a death. Remember, as Vayne, an even lane, is a lane won. Why? Because you are a late game champion, and they're not supposed to let you farm your way to late game.

Mid Game

You start to feel the power and you should have your already, along with your . At this point you can team fight or you can continue you farm and seek out chances to 1v1 your opponent so that you are able to snowball even harder into the late game.

Late Game and Team Fights

Position yourself well, stay alive, do damage, wreck everything. You are the carry, you do the damage. With the build that I have showed you, you are able to move quickly and maneuver yourself around CC, skillshots, and therefore, you will be able to live longer. Every second counts. AD Carries don't burst, they do DPS (Damage per second), and you won't be doing any damage if you're dead. Position yourself well, and win the game.

Final Comments

Thanks for looking at my guide. I still have much to learn about the game and Vayne herself, but I think you will all enjoy the "Asian Build" for Vayne. I hope you all enjoy and Good Luck on the Fields of Justice! And don't forget, TONS OF DAMAGE!
