If you find yourself falling behind in kills or drastically down on CS for some reason, consider building a
before you get cutlass and/or sheen. This item is extremely potent early game, and will help you close the gap not only in CS, but will give you the damage to fight if necessary. However, I DO NOT recommend building this item UNLESS you are down.
Once you have your core build and
you are essentially fully built. Your last slot is a utility slot, meaning you can put here what you need more of. If you're having trouble with 2 or more jumpers on the other team and need more HP, consider a
. If you're not getting focused or have good positioning and not taking much damage, consider a
is a nice item on Ezreal to negate some magic damage, or you may want a
to help that life steal.
You be the judge of what is the best time for you to get boots and the subsequent upgrades for them, it varies game by game - although I almost always get boots 1 on my first back, and the first upgrade before/when I get Manamune. The third upgrade -
- is almost always my very last bit of gold spent, unless I am forced to get
to keep our towers/inhibs alive.
A lot of people have asked me "why do you build Blade of the Ruined King on Ezreal, especially as blue build?" This all comes down to two things, every Ezreal build I've seen regardless of AD or Blue utilizes The Bloodthirster (
) for damage and sustain. However, in my tests (and in practice), I have seen that BOTRK (
) works so much better for Blue build. This is due to the fact that it gives you the ever important life leech for sustain and dueling, as well as attack speed. Why is attack speed important? Well, as Blue Ezreal you have Muramana, and if you read the tooltip on Muramana you will see that each auto attack will deal 4%x2 of your current mana as physical damage. This is an insane boost in damage considering that at level 18 with gauntlet and muramana you have around 2800 mana, 2800 x .08 = 224 extra damage on top of your normal auto attack damage. Now, you will not always be doing 224 extra damage, as Muramana costs mana, as well as your spells. However, if you're getting blue buff (which you should late game), you will almost certainly be above 2k at minimum. The second reason I prefer Blade over Bloodthirster is the active, it is great for dueling at early levels, great for kiting/catching people, great for getting some life back in team fights, and incredible for bursting enemies in teamfights.
Sorry for that wall of text, and if you're looking for a TL:DR version here it is:
Blade is better than Bloodthirster in my opinion because it gives more overall damage, allows you to kite/catch people, gives you burst damage early for getting/securing kills, and gives you a bit of an "oh shit" heal when used in tandem with barrier.
