Introduction

Introduction:

Greetings, and welcome to my Ezreal guide. I realize that most of you will not know me, and that most of you will click dislike on this guide just looking the item build. However, I urge you to read this full guide, read everything on here, try it out. I am not posting this guide as the end-all/be-all of Ezreal builds, nor am I saying this is the absolute best way to build Ezreal in LCS tournaments. What I am saying is that in the ELO bracket which most of you looking at this guide are in (Bronze-Gold), this build has worked the best for me. It gives the best mix between damage, sustain, duel-ability, kite, and ability to survive.

If you have any questions feel free to PM me or comment below, but as I said, please read the full guide and/or try it out BEFORE disliking it or posting negative reviews. Thanks!

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

I believe that and are the best summoners in almost any case on Ezreal. He doesn't really need the damage boost from , you definitely don't need the speed from , and anything else is useless on Ezreal.

I understand "some" of you believe that is a good spell against something like a Leona or Nami, but it is not. If you know how to play Ezreal then you know that you should be able to evade almost any type of engage or initiation just with your . If you feel like you need because you're dying too much to heavy CC supports, I suggest you practice Ezreal and his abilities/timing more in normal games until you are completely fluent with them. Ezreal has a very low skill floor to play him, but he also has one of the highest ceilings to play him to his full potential.

Item Builds - Explanation

NOTE!!: If you find yourself falling behind in kills or drastically down on CS for some reason, consider building a before you get cutlass and/or sheen. This item is extremely potent early game, and will help you close the gap not only in CS, but will give you the damage to fight if necessary. However, I DO NOT recommend building this item UNLESS you are down.

Once you have your core build and you are essentially fully built. Your last slot is a utility slot, meaning you can put here what you need more of. If you're having trouble with 2 or more jumpers on the other team and need more HP, consider a . If you're not getting focused or have good positioning and not taking much damage, consider a or . is a nice item on Ezreal to negate some magic damage, or you may want a to help that life steal.

You be the judge of what is the best time for you to get boots and the subsequent upgrades for them, it varies game by game - although I almost always get boots 1 on my first back, and the first upgrade before/when I get Manamune. The third upgrade - - is almost always my very last bit of gold spent, unless I am forced to get to keep our towers/inhibs alive.

Furthermore:

A lot of people have asked me "why do you build Blade of the Ruined King on Ezreal, especially as blue build?" This all comes down to two things, every Ezreal build I've seen regardless of AD or Blue utilizes The Bloodthirster () for damage and sustain. However, in my tests (and in practice), I have seen that BOTRK () works so much better for Blue build. This is due to the fact that it gives you the ever important life leech for sustain and dueling, as well as attack speed. Why is attack speed important? Well, as Blue Ezreal you have Muramana, and if you read the tooltip on Muramana you will see that each auto attack will deal 4%x2 of your current mana as physical damage. This is an insane boost in damage considering that at level 18 with gauntlet and muramana you have around 2800 mana, 2800 x .08 = 224 extra damage on top of your normal auto attack damage. Now, you will not always be doing 224 extra damage, as Muramana costs mana, as well as your spells. However, if you're getting blue buff (which you should late game), you will almost certainly be above 2k at minimum. The second reason I prefer Blade over Bloodthirster is the active, it is great for dueling at early levels, great for kiting/catching people, great for getting some life back in team fights, and incredible for bursting enemies in teamfights.

Sorry for that wall of text, and if you're looking for a TL:DR version here it is:
Blade is better than Bloodthirster in my opinion because it gives more overall damage, allows you to kite/catch people, gives you burst damage early for getting/securing kills, and gives you a bit of an "oh shit" heal when used in tandem with barrier.

Early Game

Your entire goal early game is to harass/counter harass your enemy lane with and while getting every last CS you can. This build is one of the more expensive ones, totaling out at around 15,500 gold for the complete build, minus consumables. The quicker you get , the better off you'll be. Don't forget though, you want tear first, and then sheen before you finish BOTRK. Once you have blade you can out duel your opposite quite easily, so given that you go about it in a smart way (i.e: don't stand in front of walls if you're dueling a Vayne, don't let the support jump on you, etc..) You now have the power to get/secure kills, so push your lane and get that tower as soon as you safely can so that you can then roam and help out your teammates and set up ganks on the enemies.

You may notice that "mid game" and "late game" explanations are missing from this guide. This is because your mid game and late game play outside teamfights don't really change much from early game. Once your tower goes down you are going for other objectives and trying to secure kills for your team, all the while farming CS for more items.

Team Fights

This is simultaneously the easiest, and most difficult part about playing Ezreal at all, much less "Blue" Ezreal. Your main objective in team fights are to position yourself in such a manner that you can output as much damage as possible while not allowing them to do damage to you. You have with your kit and items the ultimate kiting/dueling champion for team fights, use it. It's going to take a lot of practice to discern the proper time to use as a gap closer/kill securer, and when to use it as a distance creator/escape mechanism. For example, if Orianna is at 600HP, don't "E" next to her and get the kill only to get ulted by J4 or Zed with no way to get out alive. On the other hand, if you're relatively safe/all enemy cooldowns have been exhausted, by all means use it as a way to chase the hurt enemies and secure more kills before safely getting objectives as a team. Of course, that is also dangerous, you have to know when to chase and when to just let the kills go, which again will just come with practice.

One of the most important aspects of playing Ezreal in teamfights is to keep your 5 stacks of at all times during the fight. It has quite a low buff timer, so if you're spending too much time kiting away, or not enough time attacking, it will fall off and cripple your damage output. The best way to keep this buff at five stacks through the entire fight is first use your and make sure it hits as many enemies as possible, followed by a going through as many teammates AND as many enemies as possible. After you do this just make sure you hit each and every on every single cooldown, doing as much damage as you can with abilities and making sure your stacks don't fall.

Final Comments

In my final section I just wanted to say thank you to those of you who actually read this far, please - go and rate this guide whatever you decide. If you are going to post comments please keep them positive and keep the criticism constructive. I am not here to ruin anyone's game, nor do I wish to confuse people - my only hope here is to put out another Ezreal build which has helped me win games when I have to fill the ADC role. I will try to check this every few days, so if you have any questions please leave them below and I will get back to you ASAP. Thanks again!
