Introduction

Why Should i pick Lucian?
i have been playing Lucian since his release and the majority of my games played with him have gone extremely well, he has many attributes that give him a good advantage on getting fed early game so you will be able to dominate the late game.



Pros:

  • Strong burst with .
  • Amazing chase potential with and .
  • Strong poke with .
  • Great early game trading with .
  • Fast wave clear.
  • Good at securing kills and putting out high damage without engaging the enemy with .
  • Decent mobility using to get over small walls.

Cons:

  • No Steroid.
  • can be cancelled with CC and can be hard to keep locked on one target.
  • Burns through mana quickly early game.
  • can be dodged despite being a targeted skill.
  • Can't auto attack while channeling

Masteries

I run 21/9/0 masteries for a good Adc setup with a bit of extra defensive stats.
However you can put a point in summoners resolve which allows your barrier to shield you for an extra 20, this lets you take more burst damage.

Runes

Marks:
  • Greater Mark of Attack Damage x9
This gives you 8.5 extra AD from the start of the game to help you win early trades.

Seals:
  • Greater Seal of Armor x9
This gives you 13 extra armor from the start of the game to help you defend against the enemy AD damage.

Glyphs:
  • Greater Glyph of Scaling Magic Resist
This gives you 0.15 extra Magic Resist per level(24 Magic Resist at level 18), as you shouldn't encounter much damage from AP champions until later in the game and by that point you would have leveled enough to get you a strong resistance against them.

Quintessences:
  • Greater Quintessence of Life Steal x2
  • Greater Quintessence of Attack Damage x1
This gives you 2.25 extra AD and 4% Life Steal from the start of the game to help you win early trades and gives you good sustain.

Summoner Spells



Explanation:
I run flash because ADCs are the focus of the enemy bruisers and assassins and flash gives you a huge edge in escaping and kiting. Flash has a 300 second cooldown therefore make sure you use it wisely, knowing when to flash is a huge part of playing ADC as without it there is a 300 second window where you are a lot more vulnerable.
I also take Ignite as it gives you strong burst damage early game and better kill potential as you can let the dot tick away your enemy's health while they could be unreachable from normal attacks.

Alternatives:
is a great pick instead of ignite which allows you to be more aggressive at low health and soaks up a good amount of burst damage.

is useful to break slows, gives you good kitability and speed to catch your ult onto dodging enemy's.

can sometimes be useful such as when the enemy has a lot of CC or used to clear ignite and other dots which can be a lifesaver.

Skills

Passive: Lightslinger
After using one of his abilities, Lucian's next auto attack within 6 seconds will strike twice. The second shot deals 50-75% of Lucian's AD based on level, but fully applies on-hit effects. Minions and monsters take full damage from the second shot. The second shot can critically strike.

Explanation:
This is a very strong passive to have on an ADC and makes early game trading very strong, in lane you want to be using this passive after an ability to increase your trading potential, a followed by this passive allows Lucian to win most trades. It can also be used to quickly take down game objectives for example by spamming your ability's while shooting at a tower.
To make full use of this passive you should be using it inbetween abilities as you will get the second auto off each time. It is also very good late game, the fact that the second AA can crit at 75% lategame is incredibly strong for a passive.




Q: Piercing Light

Active: After a 0.4 second delay, Lucian fires a laser in the direction of the target enemy, dealing physical damage to all enemies in a 1100-unit line. Minions take 75% damage.
Cooldown: 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5
Cost: 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80 mana
Range: 550
Physical Damage: 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+ 60 / 75 / 90 / 105 / 120% bonus AD)


Explanation:
Max this first, it has good scaling and is your main ability in lane, mastering this will take a while at first. Make sure you never use this ability on an enemy that isnt running at a tangent to you, the laser will just end up hitting where they just were and you cannot lead this ability in front of them as it's not a skill shot, instead use your Q on a creep in front of them so that they run into it. Get to know when you can hit and when you cant.





W: Ardent Blaze
Active: Lucian fires a shot that explodes upon hitting an enemy or reaching the end of its path, damaging enemies in a cross pattern and marking enemies hit for 6 seconds.

If Lucian damages a marked target with his basic attacks or abilities, he gains 40 movement speed for 2 seconds. This does not consume the mark.
Cooldown: 14 / 13 / 12 / 11 / 10
Cost: 60 mana
Range: 1000
Magic Damage: 60 / 100 / 140 / 180 / 220 (+90% AP) (+ 60% bonus AD)


Explanation:
This ability is mainly used to chase and escape but does a considerable amount of aoe damage mid/ lategame plus giving you a consistent 40 movement speed to make it much easier to land your ult. It can also be used to check brush as it gives vision where the shot lands.




E: Relentless Pursuit
Active: Lucian dashes a short distance and removes all slowing effects. Relentless Pursuit's cooldown resets if Lucian scores a kill or assist during The Culling.
Cooldown: 18 / 16 / 14 / 12 / 10
Cost: 60 / 45 / 30 / 15 / 0 mana
Range: 425


Explanation:
This ability gives you good mobility and it has a nice bonus that removes all slows and all secondary slow effects from you making it great against a team with heavy slows. You can also use it to jump over small walls. Although a huge issue with this ability is that its cooldown is so long, don't waste it to get to places faster just in case you need it in a pinch to escape, in teamfights be very careful when you use this to catch up to an escaping team because they might realize you just burnt your escape and try to initiate on you. Proper use of this ability will greatly improve your gameplay, use it like you would with flash but just take into consideration the long cooldown.


R: The Culling
Active: Lucian starts firing shots in the target direction for 3 seconds, each shot damaging the first enemy it hits. Lucian is capable of moving while firing. Reactivating this skill will cancel it. The Culling deals quadruple damage to minions but not monsters.
Cooldown: 100 / 75 / 50
Cost: 100 mana
Range: 1400
Physical damage per shot: 40 / 50 / 60 (+30% bonus AD) (+10% AP)
Shots Fired: 7.5 + (7.5 / 9 / 10.5 * attack speed at the time of cast)
Maximum Shots: 26 / 30 / 34
Maximum Total Damage: 1040 / 1500 / 2040 (+780 / 900 / 1020% bonus AD) (+260 / 300 / 340% AP)


Explanation:
If you can land most of your ult on an enemy you will hit them for massive damage, you can use flash and your E to reposition yourself during this if you need to. Combine this ability with to give you 40 movespeed when you are hitting them with the ult which allows you to easily make sure they are in the line of fire.
If you are being chased you can throw out your and to escape easily when combined with your .
possible position which usually just involves kiting a tank whilst hitting him with it.
Don't be afraid to cancel your ult if the enemy has juked around it, simply press r again and you can use your regular abilities to try and finish them off.
Be aware that your ult is easily cancelled by CC so don't ult in a position where you can be easily controlled.




Item Builds

Start:

: Start with a dorans blade if you can because it gives you lots of health for an early fight and good sustain.
Dorans blade is exceptionally strong on Lucian as his passive works withe the dorans passive meaning every time you use your passive you gain 10hp.

First back:

Because you want to get bloodthirster as soon as possible you want to be building into it, if you have enough gold go for a BF sword as this will greatly improve your AA damage as well as increasing the damage from your abilities.

Main Build:

First build as everything it has to offer scales well with Lucian's kit.

Why bloodthirster and not blade of the ruined king?
Lucian is already a very mobile champion and the blade of the ruined king active is not needed as badly, although he scales well with both items, bloodthirster offers more overall damage which is better for his Ult and Q which you will be using often.
Bloodthirster also works well with his passive as you will lifesteal from both AAs and it will do more damage than botrk.

Get some as they give you attack speed and movespeed which are both great for Lucian.
Get a as it will give you strong attack speed, crit and movement speed which is very useful to lucian. Also the passive will give you stronger burst damage and quicker wave clear.
Get a because it gives you lots of health and a nice 30% slow on your auto attacks for better chasing and by that point in the game where you go to buy it you will be fairly squishy and the extra health prevents you from getting one shot by any assassins.
Get a because Your enemies will most likely be building armor at some point and as all your damage is physical damage you will need this item to penetrate your enemies armor.
And finally Get a as it gives you enough resistances to make you quite durable in teamfights. Also the passive on the GA can really be a game changer; seeing as you are the ADC you are a vital role in teamfights for putting out the most damage, and if you are dead then you are useless, so a chance to revive during a teamfight could change the whole game around.

I would suggest Infinity Edge before BT. Lucian's passive attacks get full crit, so the extra burst is insane.
