Champion Matchups

Introduction

Vayne plays very uniquely in the family of AD's. Most ranged AD's stay in the back and uses their mobility skill to back up further. Vayne uses her mobility mainly to engage/evade amidst the fray, she has incredibly short range auto attack but maximum mobility, this combined with her % true damage from Silver Bolts makes her the ultimate bruiser/tank slayer.

Changelog

S3 Masteries
Itembuild
Runes

Masteries

21/9/0 Standard for Vayne, she doesn't run into mana troubles since the tumble buff.

Runes

Early laning dominance.

Flat AD - Last hits
Flat Armor Seals - BiS
Flat MR Glyphs - BiS
Flat AD Quints - Can be changed with Flat HP or Flat ARP. I've personally had the best success with Flat AD.

Tip: Armor Seals and MR Glyphs are very cheap, and incredibly versatile. If you're starting to build up runpages, I recommend picking those up ASAP.

Summoner Spells

Explanation:

Flash is absolutely necessary to make plays and manage situations.

Consider other Summoners: ,,

> : If you take Heal and the enemy AD takes Cleanse, then you can always try and force exchanges, because you will win in a full-on engagement. By constantly forcing trades, you will end up pushing them out of the lane. I run Heal most of the time, even without the 10% masteries, since missing out on 20% Buff Duration is a bit too much to pay.

> : For obvious reasons. But Ignite is usually taken on your support if it's an aggressive support such as Taric. But if you're in an aggressive lane such as Ali/Sona and they have CV/Flash, you always have the option of running Ignite. (Don't forget to pick the mastery)

> : Even though they are fairly even in the laning phase, Cleanse's usefulness into late-game is just unrivaled, being able to break all incoming CC is a dream for all AD's. Like Heal, I run Cleanse without the masteries.

: Barrier is extremely good against Assassins. It's very good against Cleanse in lane, but deals with Ignite all in's much better. Barrier also acts as a Giant's Belt, so you can go straight into damage, while skipping certain defensive items.

Skills

Passive: Night Hunter
Vayne ruthlessly hunts evil-doers. She gains 30 Movement Speed when moving toward nearby enemy champions.

Explanation:

Her passive makes escaping Vayne nearly impossible, with Final Hour active she gains 90MS, which is not to be underestimated combined with tumble. 30MS is also very powerful in the laning phase, allowing her to auto/tumble/auto with ease.

Q: Tumble
Vayne tumbles a short distance and her next basic attack within 6 seconds deals bonus physical damage.

The bonus is equal to 40/45/50/55/60% of her total Attack Damage.

Cooldown 6/5/4/3/2 seconds

Cost 40 mana

Explanation:

Tumble is a quick fix to your positioning in a team fight.

Tumble allows you to chase very well.

Tumble allows you to harass very easily.

Tumble to dodge skillshots.

W: Silver Bolts
Vayne tips her bolts with a rare metal, toxic to evil things. The third consecutive attack or ability against the same target deals an additional 20/30/40/50/60 plus 4/5/6/7/8% of the target's maximum Health as true damage. (Max: 200 damage vs. Monsters)

Explanation:

TRUE DAMAGE. This passive destroys tanks, and scales incredibly well with attack speed into late-game. Silver bolts is the reason Vayne is so scary if left alive, since she will end up killing everyone as long as shes auto-attacking.

E: Condemn
Vayne fires a huge bolt, dealing 45/80/115/150/185 (+50% of attack damage) physical damage and knocking her target back.

If they collide with terrain they take 60/100/140/180/220 (+50% of attack damage) additional physical damage and will be stunned for 1.5 seconds.

Cooldown 20/18/16/14/12 seconds

Cost 90 mana

Range 450

Explanation:

For new Vayne players, Condemn may be the first challenging aspect of her skill set. Being able to land Condemns consistently takes a lot of practice, but is without a doubt necessity.

I recommend taking your time and using smart cast, because getting the double damage and the stun portion is far too important for any duel/skirmish/teamfight.

R: Final Hour
For 8/10/12 seconds Vayne gains 25/40/55 Bonus Attack Damage, Tumbling grants Vayne stealth for 1.5 seconds, and the bonus Movement Speed from Night Hunter is tripled.

Cooldown 70 seconds

Cost 80 mana

Explanation:

Final Hour is one of the best self-buffs in the game, everything she does gets amplified.

The extra AD on her ultimate synergizes with both Tumble and Condemn, invisibility on Tumble gives her even more mobility/positioning advantages, 90MS while chasing.

Tip: Dueling a Vayne that uses Final Hour is nearly impossible without Oracles or insta gibbing damage.

Early Game

FARM!

Farming is your first priority. Vayne has high killing potential if your jungle ganks at level 2, in which case you want to level up Condemn at 1. But otherwise, trade efficiently with silver bolts and tumble.

Mid Game

Once you get Bilgewater and level 6, you're a huge threat. Play smart and go in for kills when the time is right. Try and force duels against the enemy AD.

Late Game

Finish up your build, make sure you have QSS before engaging in late game fights.

If there is a stalemate situation (where its very hard to engage or push towers) consider split pushing; trying to force 1v1 vs champions that cannot duel you.

Make sure your team can defend baron 4v5, and that you have proper warding/escape mechanisms such as both Exhaust and Flash both being up before you attempt split pushing.

Final Comments

The toughest part of playing Vayne is correctly positioning and repositioning yourself constantly in a high-intensity fight. Once you understand and master her, you'll easily penetrate holes in your enemies defense, while appearing seemingly unkillable from their perspective.

@Supra, its the combination of the active, attack speed, build order (only cheap component items) and sustain that makes this item so good on vayne.

Ok, in relation to the Zephyr over the Zerkers, I have a different stance. I think that we should build Trinity Force over Zephyr. You lose 2 percent movement speed, but makes up for it with it's stats and damage. With a full Korean build Vayne, my Q did 1,700 damage with Trinity Force. TONS OF DAMAGE!

Did you take in count BoTR in your math? because you don't talk about the hp of the ennemy...

April 21, 2013 - 01:31 AM #5

Yo, I just did a ton of math, (add this username on LoL as a friend if you want to see my calculations) and Last Whisper + Cloak of Agility + Pickaxe (LW + 1500 gold in damage towards Infinity Edge; the amount of gold saved from buying LW instead of IE) only does more damage with the suggested runes and masteries than buying an infinity edge when attacking targets with a total armor rating of 171 or higher. (this includes previous build, runes, everything). So unless the point of grabbing LW instead of IE is to get your phage or giant's belt faster, (which would be WAY less damage)then Infinity edge first is much more effective as a third item than LW. (Again, add me if you have questions/comments)

Reading these comments are hilarious. Chaox is one of the best ADC's in the game right now and even though this guide is over 260 days old, it's still almost perfect. The items that have been nerfed are still viable for Vayne.

So funny how obvious the skill level of these players appears based upon their comments.
