Introduction
Poppy is a broken champion who is almost never used in high elo games, because Poppy requires a lot of farm and positioning to use correctly. In this guide I will give tips and suggestions on how to play Poppy.
Masteries

Explanation

  • With Poppy, I like to run 9/21 to grab Magic pen and attack damage in offense, and every survivability early game to take a beating and exchange blows.

Explanation

  • Flat AD Marks helps give early damage to exchange blows with auto attacks + Q and to last hit under tower if necessary.
  • Armor Seals to take damage from bruisers much easier and to exchange blows.
  • Magic resist per level Glyphs this helps give you MR later on as the game progresses. Another option would be armor Glyphs to take even more early hits early on.
  • Flat armor quints/HP regain quints, if you are going against an AP top, get HP regain, if you are going against a bruiser get armor quints
Summoner Spells

  • Ignite allows you to get early kills on enemies if ever possible and gives you the early bully harass.

[summoners/flash.png]

  • Flash allows you to get away over walls, or even set up for your [skills/poppy/e.png] into a wall. If you do not like using flash since it just got nerfed, use [summoners/ghost.png].
Skills
[skills/poppy/p.png] Passive: Valiant Fighter

Any damage dealt to Poppy that exceeds 10% of her current health is reduced by 50%. This does not reduce damage from structures.

Explanation:

This passive is the most OP PASSIVE INGAME. Lets say you have current of 1000hp, you get hit for 200 damage, you would only take 100 damage since it exceeds 10% of your hp.




[skills/poppy/q.png] Q: Devastating Blow

Poppy crushes her opponent, dealing attack damage (+60% of ability power) plus 20 / 40 / 60 / 80 / 100 and 8% of her target's maximum health in bonus damage. The bonus damage dealt cannot exceed 75 / 150 / 225 / 300 / 375.

Cooldown 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 / 4seconds
Cost 55mana
Range 600


Explanation:

This skill some people get confused and go AP instead of AD. Its an AD skill that gets a bonus depending on your opponents HP. There is a CAP damage so I dont understand why people still go AP instead of AD. [items/sheen.png] Affects this skill.




[skills/poppy/w.png] W: Paragon of Demacia

Passive: Upon being hit or attacking an enemy, Poppy's armor and damage are increased by 1.5 / 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 for 5 seconds. This effect can stack 10 times.

Active: Poppy gains max stacks of Paragon of Demacia and her movement speed is increased by 17 / 19 / 21 / 23 / 25% for 5 seconds.

Cost 70 / 75 / 80 / 85 / 90mana

Explanation:

Poppy gains great stats from this skill, but my favorite part is the movement speed. This skill can even allow you to jungle, but there are stronger junglers around.




[skills/poppy/e.png] E: Heroic Charge

Poppy charges at an enemy and carries them for a short distance. The initial impact deals 50 / 75 / 100 / 125 / 150 (+40% of ability power) magic damage. If they collide with terrain, her target takes 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+40% of ability power) magic damage and will be stunned for 1.5 / 1.5 / 1.5 / 1.5 / 1.5 seconds.

Cooldown 12 / 11 / 10 / 9 / 8seconds
Cost 60 / 65 / 70 / 75 / 80mana
Range 525


Explanation:

The main skill of poppy is all about this. Being able to get your enemy into a wall or not can lead to a win or defeat in your fights. Make sure you auto attack after then use your [skills/poppy/q.png] for the maximum damage output.




[skills/poppy/r.png] R: Diplomatic Immunity

For 6 seconds, Poppy is immune to any damage and abilities from enemies other than her target.

In addition, Poppy's attacks deal 20 / 30 / 40% increased damage to the marked target.

Explanation:

This skill sounds so OP, well it kinda is especially when you go AD. Allowing only ONE target to target you for 6 seconds while you smash the rest of the other team to bits. Just target a low CC champ, or support and off you go killing everyone.




Item Builds
Starting items

Early game

Explanation

As poppy you want to farm for your [items/philosophers-stone.png] asap to help you with mana problems and to sustain your lane. Sheen will help give you a lot of early game damage which is always a must. Also do NOT forget to ward if you are going to overextend.

Core Items

[items/trinity-force.png]+Boots of your choice

Explanation

Trinity is the MAIN item you want, and you ant it quickly. It will give you movement speed, critical Sheen affect, and slows from the phage. After having this item and being around level 11, you can 1v1 anybody with a good walling and [skills/poppy/r.png].

Late Game

[items/hextech-gunblade.png]+[items/frozen-heart.png]+[items/guardian-angel.png]

Explanation

Gunblade gives you damage, and lifesteal/spell vamp to survive teamfights and gives more DPS in the fight. Frozen heart allows you to to ult the AD carry or support, doesnt matter and kill anyone on the team. You are tanky with this item and gives a good auro to the team. GA is incase you die you come back to life with also good stats of MR and ARMOR.

Early Game
Early game, you want to just farm, dont worry too much about harassing unless you KNOW you can wall your enemy. Use your [skills/poppy/q.png] to help get last hits to rush [items/philosophers-stone.png]. Be careful in your lane and watch out for ganks. Once you get [items/sheen.png], go for marassive harasses and control your lane. Also do NOT forget to WARD!!!
Mid Game
Mid game you should have [items/trinity-force.png]. You should be pushing your lane and ganking the enemy jungler. Poppy is very strong in the jungler with all the walls around for impact damage. Key to winning is to control the enemy jungle and to setup for ganks. Poppy is amazing for this. Always ward enemy buffs and dragon. Remember [skills/poppy/r.png] allows you to turret dive enemies so if you have the odds with you, tank the tower for your teammates and take them down.
Late Game
If the game goes into lane game, you are unstoppable with this build. You are able to 2-3 hit any Squishy. hunt down enemies in the jungle kill them quick and escape making it 4v5 most of the time. Remember to [skills/poppy/r.png] the right champion, and do NOT use it on someone with [items/banshees-veil.png], it will cancel it.

    I have tweaked a few items in the build and changed my masteries for better early game dominance, at least how i ever tested it.

    Only the percentual damage of Q has a cap. It also transfers the whole packet into magic damage (iirc you got that wrong somewhere). Essentially it's a skill with a 1.0 AD and AP ratio, that can crit your AD but doesn't apply on-hit effects (fairly sure I've procced lantern with it, tho).
    Also, the passive doesn't negate all damage above 10% current hp (as stated), otherwise you couldn't take more than 1dmg while at 10hp. Instead it reduces the exceeding damage by half. To put in some geeky math, it's, with "n" being the dealt damage, the final taken damage is [n x 0.10 + (n - n x 0.10)/2] x (100/100 + Ar/MR). At 100hp and 50 magic resist, a 300dmg Karthus ulti would be reduced like [10+(290/2)x(100/150)] = 93. You'd be left at 7 fucking hp, and then you would happily recall after your heart skipping a beat!
    Anyways, point made. Poppy always lives.

    Also, myself I rush Philo (Lantern first, if I really have/want to jungle, or can't get a lane. New masteries really help), then HoG (boots after or somewhere inbetween, depending on wealth and field.
    Then either Mercs immediately, or Tabi (pre-patch nimbleness)/Mobility to later sell for Mercs) and Avarice Blade (occasionally Brutalizer first if I get feed). Only then do I rush Ghostblade and then Sheen -> Triforce.
    I build Sheen really late, since Triforce costs a ridiculous 4k and I need the gp/5's ticking early. Movement speed is everything and I can't proc more than one Sheen without being outkited (unless I have red). Last slot is for FoN. Before or after I upgrade my gp/5's to be able to go autobahn.
    If game still goes on I sell Shurelya's for whatever stat I need the most.
