IntroductionHello and welcome to my guide.
In this guide i'm going to discuss Viktor and the many ways you can adapt him depending on what lane your going what position you need to fill on your team. His strongest allies i've found and what matchups you need to watchout for. (more will be done in the future on the latter.)
RunesYou can really use whatever you thinks best here as im using a generic ap rune setup i use with all ap heros.
This setup gives me slight advantages in early game damage with a boost to ap and magic pen. armor so i can stay in lane longer. and move speed so i can dance around skill shots and escape ganks easier.
MasteriesThis is where i feel my play style with Viktor starts to branch off from many others. Instead of trying to focus on damaging an enemy with high burst my goal is to constantly harass and control there pace on the battlefield.
To achieve this i went 9/0/21.
9 points in offensive. to raise my damage, magic pen, and most of all my cd on spells by 4%
21 points in utilty. I did this for three reasons. The first reason was to maximize my cooldown ratios further. with the offensive mastery sorcery and intelligence mastery i can start the game with 10% cd on spells.
The second is extra mana and mana regen which greatly help to solve Viktors mana troubles early game when combined with double doran rings.
and the greed+wealth combo let me never get too far behind in gold if i start losing while also letting me have an extra strong start with a doran + health potion right out the fountain. (this is important. as Viktor shines early game. and late game depending on how you build him)
Flash: Viktor gets alot of use out of flash as it lets him initiate with his trap or lets him escape ganks with his trap. its a pretty vital summoner skill on him. (I imagine a Ghost run would work well if your building viktor his power aug route.)
Ignite: Viktor doesn't have the greatest burst out there. so being able to deal a good bit of damage then smacking them with an ignite will usually net you a kill. they wont be escaping so easily!
Passive: Evolving Technology
Viktor starts with a Hex Core that provides him with stats and can be upgraded in the store to augment one of his abilities. The Hex Core can only be upgraded once, and cannot be sold back to the store.
A great passive. early game you get a free dorans ring worth of ap. and later on it adapts to help you fill out your playstyle. (don't upgrade this till after you get your Rod of ages and Death fire cap)
Q: Power Transfer
Viktor blasts an enemy unit dealing magic damage, returning a portion of the damage dealt as a shield.
This skill is imo probable Viktors most reliable source of damage while also being his...least useful skill (imo) I take this skill first almost evertime. as being able to poke + farm easy in your lane is a great thing to have from the get go.
W: Gravity Field
Viktor conjures a heavy gravitational field that slows any target in its radius. If enemies stay too long within the radius of the device, they get stunned.
This skill is what truly makes Viktor a terror on the battlefield. being able to properly utilize this skill is what makes you a good Viktor or a bad Viktor. with this skill you can defend towers better then any other champion in the League. You can stop there team initiating group fights. save allies and catch the enemy when they push out too far.
E: Death Ray
Viktor uses his robotic arm to fire a chaos beam that cuts across the field in a lane, dealing damage to any opponenets struck in its path.
This skill is a bit tricky to get used to but using it well can be very rewarding. It doesn't give the greatest creep farming when compared to other champions aoe nukes. so you'll have to step your game up and use it for poking at the enemy champ and to keep them guessing and on there toes while cutting threw the creeps.
R: Chaos Storm
Viktor conjures a singularity on the field which deals magic damage and briefly silences enemies. The singularity then does magic damage to all nearby enemies every second. Viktor can redirect the singularity.
This is the skill you drop on someone who is making you angry. or you caught with your trap or if there teams bunched up together. The initial damage isn't anything great but it is strong enough it will hurt them. the dps it drops after it is surprising good. and it causes a slight distraction to there eyes. microing this skill takes abit of practice but you want to pick a target and either keep it on them or use it to zone them out/ discourage them from going in that direction.
Skill OrderSo heres where things start to get alot more tricky with building Viktor. your going to have to make a choice early on what role your going and how your going to maximize this role. All 3 paths you can take are very similar but choosing a path early and sticking with it lets you become very proficient in that path. as such the order your level up your skills are a defining factor in what you ultimately want to be during the game. despite whatever role i choose 1 thing stays constant i always take my first point in q (for farming and poking). though a point in your trap might be more helpful if there going to invade your jungle or your invading theirs. (q will still do well in this situation just it wont be as devastating should a level 1 group fight break out.)
Burst damage Viktor (recommended for top or mid lane): Q,E,W,E,W,R Q E ect.... (prioritize your laser as your number 1 source of damage. traps and power transfer take as you see fit. always make sure to have atleast 1 point in trap however as its vital to being able to escape champions with dash's and setting up combos)
Support Viktor (recommended for bot lane) : Q,W,E,W,Q,R,W,Q ect... (prioritize your traps as your main source of helping out. landing good aoe stuns on 1-2 heros or shutting down there initiation or catching a hero who poked out to far will greatly help your allies get kills easy and reverse situations.)
Power Viktor (recommended for Top and given the right match ups Mid): Q,E,Q,W,Q,R,Q.W ect... (prioritize your Power Transfer as your main source for trading with the enemy and securing creeps if need be. the shield will help you not get zoned out at top by champions who have a tendency to be aggressive in lane.
once you build up your cd boots and death fire grasp you should have 40% cd reduction letting you shoot out your Q ever 2 seconds. with the power augmentation this lets you almost always have your shield up + move speed bonus. combine this with a ryali's the move speed swap is pretty awesome.)
Item BuildsRod of ages is a core item on Viktor. After this Death fire grasp is my personal preference as it lets you keep up good damage and high cool down ratios. letting you secure lane dominance and manipulating the ebb and flow of group fights better. after this you want to pick items that'll help you further your chosen role.
Burst Viktor: Rabbadons. Laser augmentation. Blow things up like a boss.
Support Viktor: Get boots too move faster early. after DFG you'll probable only have gold to really ward. I guess after this you could build something to help out your team more. if its an ap heavy team a will of the ancients would be good. if your teams ad heavy just focus on getting quick traps off to pin the enemy down. Gravity augmentation
Power Viktor: After you setup your core of RoD and DFG a Ryali's will really let you become an annoyance.
having a power transfer on a 2 second cooldown is pretty evil.
Enemys, Allies, Good matchupsPeople you lane against well: Irelia (in progress)
People who have good synergy with you: Hiemerdinger, Viegar (in progress)
People to watchout for: Rumble (in progress)
Final CommentsSorry for typos and some pictures not working. i'm gonna get this sorted out later and make the guide look nicer.
This is my first guide i've published. i'll probable release another after i get this one smoothed out.
Enjoy playing Viktor and hopefully following my advice you wont end up as one of the 2/10/4 viktors i've been seeing online lately
