Not to build:sword-of-the-occult I don't think it's something that you can maintain if you're building DPS (which is what sword of occult is). You can maintain it when building tank but if you're a tank, why would you need it and how would you get stacks with it?
What aboutsunfire-cape? You may think:It gives health, armour, and DPS, what's not to love? Wrong. it doesnt give very much dps because the damage is nullified, it only gives 45 armor so how is that gonna protect you from a vayne and its health is easily topped by warmogs. Update: I love this item:maw-of-malmortius Now instead of getting a negatron cloak before atmas, i normally just get maw-of-malmortius instead. Even though it costs more, it gives roughly the same damage as atmas, i barely get atma's now. My full build has changed from a different kind of tanky dps. its now :maw-of-malmortiuswriggles-lanternmercurys-treadswarmogs-armorlast-whisperguardian-angel Thats ideal. Also that's in no specific order.


Update 2: I don't get Doran's anymore, because it just isn't really worth it anymore.
I have also been trying out something new with utility masteries and gp10 runes/items. Gets you about 10 extra gold per ten which really helps you through the game.
Introduction
Hello this is DXNinjaXO and I'm bringing my style of Olaf to light because I have played Olaf for a very long time and I enjoy playing him very much. He is best played in the jungle because of mana problems in lane. Some people may say when you solo top you max E. It costs too much health early game though so we can't really do that. I'd just like to say thank you for reading this and comment with suggestions if you have any.

When to pick Olaf
When you wanna have fun in solo queue or with some friends. For ranked however, he can be countered so choose wisely. If you see the enemy has a team like [champ/alistar.png][champ/cassiopeia.png][champ/jax.png][champ/nautilus.png][champ/kogmaw.png] you really should pick olaf. They have really high cc and they are probably tring to protect the carries while destroying yours (alistar protects, jax kills yours). You should pick olaf so you can run up to that kogmaw and destroy him. Then attack Cass. If you can kill both of those, your team shouldn't have trouble killing jax. You are similar to riven in the way that you get all up in their faces and try to kill them as fast as possible.

Changes to Olaf
(My update) February 25th: Olaf is getting some nice buffs, specifically:

Undertow Damage increased to 80-260 from 50-210
Scaling changed to +1.0 bonus AD from +0.5 total AD
Base cooldown reduced to 8 seconds from 10
Cooldown reduction for picking up the axe reduced to 4.5 seconds from 6

Ragnarok now provides 30/45/60 Armor and Magic Resist instead of 20/30/40 flat damage reduction

Movement Speed increased to 325 from 320

Pretty nice buffs, tried them out in open beta, makes him really tough to kill with ult and late game his Q deals mass damage, DPS Olaf is becoming a little more viable, less cooldown on axe, Now you can quite literally spam them every half a second (with blue).
Masteries
I like to take offensive for some nice faster jungling earlier. Olaf can be the 2nd fastest to the fastest jungler in the game (next to shyvana). The Armor pen is nice too because you don't take any in runes. The lifesteal is perfect for his W. It's like getting a second level W at lvl 2 without the dmg or spell vamp. Defensive are also nice but you should go 9/21/0 taking points in veteran's scars, initiator, and enlightenment along with the ones i put in already.
I take flat ad Marks and quints for the fastest jungling possible. This lets you hit very quickly because of your passive while doing mass damage per hit. Also makes your ganks better because your axe becomes more deadly. Take flat armor to take a lot less creep damage and take magic resist per level because you level quickly when jungling olaf and it gives you very nice defense against enemy casters.
Some other runes you could take are flat armor pen marks and quints or take a mix of 3 armor pen marks 6 physical damage marks. Armor seals still and same glyphs too. For quints you can take 1 ad quint and w/e other quints you like. i sometimes take movement speed for faster jungling and better early level ganks.
It really helps to take lifesteal quints sometimes and just low health jungle because its faster and i guarantee that you won't be extremely low like other things. Again the ones up top are what i prefer.
Summoner Spells

Explanation:

Ghost is one of my favourite summoner spells on Olaf. You can ghost right into the fight and ult when they start ccing you. You instantly become extremely fast, hard to catch, and can tear right into their carries. Smite because your jungling duh. And don't give me any of that no smite jungle crap. Smite is the most useful summoner spell on a jungler(helps you secure baron, dragon, buffs, and jungle faster).
Flash is also very viable instead of ghost because it helps you get out of jungle gank situations or gives you that extra little burst to throw an axe and get a kill. Very useful for jumping walls too.
Skills
[skills/olaf/p.png] Passive: Berzerker Rage

For each 1% of health missing, Olaf's attack speed is increased by 1%.

Explanation:

Let's you jungler extremely fast early game while late game it lets you dive into a whole enemy team and come out fighting because of lifesteal.




[skills/olaf/q.png] Q: Undertow

Olaf throws an axe to a target location, dealing 50 / 90 / 130 / 170 / 210 physical damage plus 50% of his attack damage to units it passes through and slowing them by 16 / 22 / 28 / 34 / 40% for 2.5 seconds.

If Olaf picks up the axe, the ability's cooldown is reduced by 6 seconds.

Cost 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 / 75mana
Range 1000


Explanation:

Helps you jungle fast and is your only gank tool. Sad to say, olaf is not the greatest ganker compared with people like shaco but if you get good with this skill, you can gank extremely well. I can recall countless times where i pick up kills or slow someone about to get away with this. Also ALWAYS and i repeat ALWAYS remember to pick it up in the jungle. Without it your dps is extremely decreased.




[skills/olaf/w.png] W: Vicious Strikes

For 6 seconds, Olaf's attack damage is increased by 7 / 14 / 21 / 28 / 35 base damage plus 1% of his max health. While active, Olaf gains 9 / 12 / 15 / 18 / 21% lifesteal and spell vamp.

Cost 40 / 45 / 50 / 55 / 60mana
Range 700


Explanation:

This is why olaf is probably one of the best 1v1's and lures in the game. If you come accross an enemy jungler, and you start duking it out. He'll either get you down lower first or you'll get him down. If it's the first one, you just hit W and R (if you have it) and laugh as you hit them like twice per second lifestealing all your health back.




[skills/olaf/e.png] E: Reckless Swing

Olaf deals 100 / 160 / 220 / 280 / 340 true damage to his target and inflicts 40 / 64 / 88 / 112 / 136 true damage to himself.

Cost none
Range 325


Explanation:

This is one of the best skills in the game because it is true damage. True damage in LoL is damage that can't be negated at all so that makes it extremely dangerous. At lvl 13 you are dealing 340 true damage every 5-6 seconds. That is really good, especially on somebody like an alistar with his ult up. I laugh so hard when alistars ult against me cause i just spam E and their health disintegrates.




[skills/olaf/r.png] R: Ragnarok

Active: For 5 / 6.5 / 8 seconds, Olaf is immune to disables and reduces incoming damage by 20 / 30 / 40.

Passive: Olaf has 10 / 20 / 30 increased armor penetration.

Cost 100 / 75 / 50mana
Range 400


Explanation:

This skill should probably be renamed "FUS RO DAH!" because it gives you the strength of dragons to be able to charge through people collecting no cc at all and wrecking them. It lasts for 8 seconds which is pretty nice comboed with ghost and/or youmuus ghostblade. The passive is something i love as well because you can build no armor pen and still have 36 flat + 10% armor pen late game. Penetrating roughly half of the enemies armour (assuming its someone who hasn't built armor cause they will have 60-80 armor late game)
Skill Order
Max Q first, better ganks, better dps, better damage. Max E second, great true damage, take nothing to your health because you already have warmogs and lifesteal. Jungling
The main reason i love playing olaf. He tears through the jungle with tons of farm and a few nice ganks along the way. The only cons about olaf's jungle are that he has to be low health early to jungle and he has one gank tool, but people like shyvana pull it off with no gank tools so it's k. Follow stonewall008's jungle video because its really good and lets you jungle quickly.

So after watching that it should give you all the basics of what your route is. Feel free to gank after red buff or keep jungling, its really up to you.

Edit:

If you are against a jungler slower than you by 10-15 seconds, start wraiths then red with a hard leash. So hard that you don't have to use smite on red. Then go straight to your blue and kill that w/smite. After that, run straight to enemy red as they should still be doing it. Kill them and refresh your red buff. Then either gank top/bot/b/or continue counterjungling/jungling. I'd recommend ganking or to b.
Items/Build

On your first back, you should be aiming for a [items/wriggles-lantern.png] and [items/boots-of-speed.png]. On second back try to get [items/mercurys-treads.png] and one part of phage. From there go for a [items/hexdrinker.png] Try to get your mallet or maw of malmortius next. then build the one you didn't build before. From there it's situational. If your team doesn't have a strong carry or the carry is under farmed/feeding get more damage. If you don't have a strong tank, get more defense.
Item Builds
Tanky/DPS is the build i was showing you before.

DPS Build: I Don't recommend DPS build as it leaves you with not very much tankiness

Early Game
Olaf just farms in the jungle here and pushes lanes. Normally if you get fed, it's here. He really dishes out tough damage with his spamming Q's and strong auto attacks to squishies and tanks. Try not to use too much mana unless you have blue. It takes too much mana out of him which is why i jungle him. Gank when lanes are extended and otherwise farm up :D
Mid Game
Teamfight time? It depends on your game. it could just be farm time or push time. But in teamfights your main goal is to try and kill or damage the enemy carries badly and then the supports. That should be done fairly quickly. Then you move on to killing their tanks w/ your godly spammable true damage. Wonderful!
Late Game
You probably shouldnt reach late game but if you do, Olaf can dish out some insane damage or can tank a hell of a lot late game. He really scales like that although his Q doesn't unless you're stacking AD. Anways, you basically wanna have baron control here, push alot, teamfight well and win the game. basic enough.
Some Small Tricks
I've picked up a few tricks that I use when playing Olaf that I forgot to write about.

1. After a team fight, if you are really low health and you get ignited there is still a way that you can survive. Hit "W" as fast as you can and smite the nearest minion and Q if there is a wave. That can give you up to another 100 health back after the fight. A very good thing.

2. Q can sometimes check bushes for you. Your axe throw reveals an area for a split second. If you chuck your axe and it lands in a bush beside or actually hits an enemy, it will reveal them. From there it's up to you what you do.

3. When finishing off tanks in a team fight, try to get the kill with your E. You should be spamming it on them, but when they get low, save it for the finisher. It sounds kind of like a dick thing to do, however it's good to make sure they don't get away, plus your team shouldn't be mad at you because 1. it's a team fight 2. it's a tank.

4. Camping the lane. Sometimes,(just using top as an example, works on bot lane too) when your top lane is too pushed, and you know you can beat the enemy jungler/top with your top and yourself. Walk into the bushes and wait for the enemy jungler to come. If he doesn't come, and the enemy pushes out a bit. Feel free to bush gank because they will never see it coming. I've done this many times and you either counter-gank or get free kills. Be extremely persistent if you do this though. "exit the lane" through the bush, so he thinks you are leaving. But just stay there until he overextends again. Even if he moves just a tiny bit, if your top has some sort of stun/snare/big slow, all you need is 1 axe to enable your top laner to reach him and cc him.

    @dalems see the thing with me is that i never not rush wriggles because my goal is quick jungling and to beat enemy jungler. Also you can normally take dragon with 1 person helping as soon as you get it.

    @DobromirIvanov (read with british accent) well good sir, i do believe owning a skin that is very common (i have it), does not qualify you to give a proper seminar of the capabilities of mercury treads over the capabilities of the notorious Berserker's Greaves. Thank you sir.

    Merc treads is a pretty sweet item for anyone, and berzerker greaves are somewhat ... useless in most cases on imitators. Having merc treads + QSS though, that's kind of stupid. Take the merc treads, and take a GA instead of a QSS. GA makes olaf not worth killing. Being olaf, people usually tend to not CC you until they see you stop leaning forward (animation for Ragnarok) then they cc you. Simple as that. Merc treads will negate most of it, and if they focus you too much, you die, come back, get to full health again while your carries haven't been hit. Simple as that.

    Mercs when you are going to be taking a lot of CC/poke and want to go wriggles first.

    @DobromirIvanov You are an idiot. Merc Treads is necessary on all tanks unless the enemy has a lot of ad champs, when you get Tabi instead. His passive gives him attack speed so therefore berzerkers is a waste of an item slot. For your point about your ult IT HAS CD!!!! This build is a tank build not a dps. You can go directly for the carry but you can also sit there and soak up damage. "I think you can take my word on it..." that's not something to back your argument up. You need to show some proof if you want people to believe you. Merc Treads are the most used boots if you don't like them don't get them but they are necessary for all tanks to be most efficient.

    Merc treats? Bro is this nessesery? I mean when u get inside ur ult u become invinsible... No CC... So i think Bersergers greeves is must have on olaf! Or atleast Ninja tabi... Since u go directly for the carry... BUT STILL! MERC TREATS? I am olaf player too.. And i am playing with the glacial olaf.. So i think u can take my word on it... Merc treats is a waste of item slot..
