Hello, I'm kriss a platinum (2161 top rating atm) rated player on the EU-West server and this is my guide on Irelia. I decided to work on a guide to help people who just recently started playing Irelia and want to know how to play and build her. With that said here we go.

I usually run 9 21 0 on her because it just provides you with everything you need to win your lane and scale properly into mid-lategame.
You can also run 0 21 9 if you know you will have a hard or passive lane.

I run AD marks for the extra damage on my autoattacks and Bladesurge but you can swap them for attack speed for more damage and lifesteal thanks to your hiten style. Armor seals and magic resist glpyhs grant you a big early defense bonus and therefore an easier laning phase. MS quints are just a personal preference so you can change them to HP regen or flat AD quints to suit your own playstyle.

I usually run flash ignite on soloQ because i want to be 100% sure i can beast my opponent in lane and get a kill but in premade games you can change ignite for teleport for coordinated dragons, ganks or just for farming.

Each nearby enemy champion (to a maximum of three) reduces the effectiveness of Crowd Control on Irelia.1 Champion: 10%2 Champions: 25%3 Champions: 40%




One of the strongest passives in the game, Ionian Fervor, allows Irelia to be extremely disruptive in teamfights thanks to the immense CC reduction from the passive combined with merc treads.



Irelia dashes forward to strike her target for 20/50/80/110/140 (+1 per Attack Damage). If it kills the target, Bladesurge's cooldown refreshes and refunds 35 Mana.

Cost 60/65/70/75/80 mana

Very strong spell, it allows Irelia to farm easily and chase down fleeing enemies. It has a low mana cost and resets it's cd if the target is slain(make sure you don't miss it because it has a fairly long cd).



Irelia is skilled in the art of Hiten, passively giving her physical attacks 10 / 14 / 18 / 22 / 26 health restoration. Activating Hiten Style adds 15 / 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 true damage to her physical attacks for 6 seconds.

A very strong skill, with an active and a passive. The passive grants good sustain and the active provides true damage. This is the reason you don't usually itemize for damage on Irelia.



Irelia's attack balances the scales, dealing 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+50% of ability power) damage and slowing the target by 60% for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds. However, if the target has a higher Health % than Irelia, then the blow stuns the target instead.

Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70 mana

Range 425





Not the best CC skill in the game since it's a slow and sometimes a stun but it's still good. It provides a stun when the target is lower on HP than Irelia so you can deliberately take damage to benefit from the stun.



Irelia summons 4 spirit blades that she can fling to deal 80/120/160 (+60 of attack damage) (+50% of ability power) physical damage to enemies they pass through. She heals for 25% of that damage against champions and 10% against minions.

Cost 100 mana







One of the strongest ulties in the game in my opinion, it has a low cd, good damage and provides you with even more sustain.

I usually start with boots + 3 pots but you can go with cloth + 5 pots if you are facing a strong AD based champion. I usually find myself working on trinity force after my 1st trip back home because it provides irelia with all the stats she needs. If your lane is hard you can also try getting 2 GP10s(heart of gold and philosopher stone) but usually you wont be needing this and therefore you aim to get wits end as fast as you possibly can. After that you can start building towards a randuin's or a force of nature against ap heavy teams. It's all situational from now on, if your find yourself getting focused get a GA or if you need more damage but don't want to sacrifice too much tankyness a Maw of Malmortious is the perfect choice for you. I found that ionic spark on irelia works pretty good if you are forced to splitpush a lot.

Early game with Irelia you want to farm as much as you can and avoid ganks. You can usually kill your opponent at lvl6 without much trouble. You should aim towards getting your wriggle and phage as soon as you can because they provide so much for your early game. You should also try and push your lane hard if their jungler is on other lanes or if you have a decisive advantage over your lane opponent and proceed to steal their jungler's creeps with always leaving 1 smaller creep so he loses time in the jungle.

Your focus in mid game is getting kills and objectives(dragon,towers). You should always try and zone the enemy team's source of damage in fights while protecting your own. Irelia is one of those champions that can't be ignored in teamfights and therefor you should be very careful because you will be focused sometimes, which is good because in that way you carries can free-dps the enemy team.

In late game you should be farmed enough to be a good source of damage while being really tanky. In late-game Irelia is truly a disruptive force. If you did your role well enough the game shouldn't last more than 30-35 mins.

Irelia is one of the strongest and safest picks for the toplane as she doesnt have a true hard counter. She, however has difficulties laning against hard dmg champions that bully her out of the lane in the early-game. The list below contains top 5 champions irelia wins or loses against.
