Introduction
Jungle Gragas has been reborn! After a year of letting this guide rot, I decided to revisit it. With the new jungle, and a hard leash at blue; Gragas is able jungle as a caster.Pros
-Semi Fast Clear
-Strong Ganks
-Fun to play
-High Reward
Cons
-Reliant on Blue
-Not very tanky
-Very weak to counterjungling
-High Risk
Masteries
I run a full on offensive mastery page, with 21/9/0. The goal is to sacrifice as little as possible to make this jungle happen.
Runes
The 9 Mpen runes are pretty standard for any AP carry. The 9 Armor Seals to add to your tankiness, and make your jungle safer.
The 4 CDR Glyphs are there to help you proc your passive more.
The 5 AP Glyphs are there for a bit more damage early on.
The 3 AP quints are there to further up your damage.
Note: I'm testing a full set of CDR Glyphs at the moment, so those may end up being a bit stronger.
Summoner Spells
![summoners/flash.png [summoners/flash.png]](guide/summoners/flash.png)
![summoners/smite.png [summoners/smite.png]](guide/summoners/smite.png)
Flash because well, it's so amazing. Smite because well, there is no reason to jungle without Smite.
Skills
Passive: Happy HourOn ability use, Gragas takes a drink restoring 2% of his max health over 4 seconds.
Explanation:
This passive is so amazing. If you stagger your spells, you can get a lot of HP back. Coupled with
, you can sustain on most camps with ease.
Q: Barrel RollGragas rolls his cask to a location, which can be activated again to explode or will explode on its own after 5 seconds, dealing 85 / 135 / 185 / 235 / 285 (+90% of ability power) magic damage in the area.
Cost 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 mana
Range 1100
Explanation:
As with all Gragas builds, this is your bread and butter. It's damage and scale is so amazing. If your mid/top lane is running a champ with hard cc, you can put in a lot of damage with little risk.
W: Drunken RageGragas guzzles down brew from his cask, channeling for 1 second. He gains 30 / 45 / 60 / 75 / 90 mana while channeling, and becomes empowered after finishing, increasing physical attack damage by 30 / 40 / 50 / 60 / 70, and reducing damage taken by 10 / 12 / 14 / 16 / 18% for 20 seconds.
Cooldown 30 seconds
Range 20
Explanation:
A true one point wonder. The mana regen helps your sustain a bit, but that AD steroid and the defense buff are the true winners here. With this you can tank a bit better.
E: Body SlamGragas charges forward, colliding with the first enemy unit he hits and dealing 80 / 120 / 160 / 200 / 240 (+50% of ability power) plus 66% of his physical damage to enemies in the area. Damage is split amongst targets hit. Units hit by Body Slam are slowed by 35% for 2.5 seconds.
Cost 50 / 55 / 60 / 65 / 70mana
Range 25000
Explanation:
This ability is what lets you gank. If you can land an E (or a flash E) on a champion in lane, you force a flash. With your amazing burst potential, your ganks are deadly.
R: Explosive CaskGragas throws his cask to an area. Upon landing, it deals 200 / 325 / 450 (+100% of ability power) magic damage to all units struck, knocking them back and applying a 20 / 30 / 40% attack speed debuff.
Cooldown 90 / 75 / 60seconds
Cost 100 / 125 / 150mana
Range 1050
Explanation:
So you're set up to gank mid. The enemy mid overextends for a second and WHAM, your ult knocks them into the turret. Explosive Cask hits like a truck, and the knockback is very disorienting. A
combo can put out a lot of damage; especially if the lane you're ganking is a bursty lane such as
.
Item Builds
Note:
These are not in any sort of order, just get whatever item you need at whatever time.Starting:
![items/dorans-ring.png [items/dorans-ring.png]](guide/items/dorans-ring.png)
Explanation: With a nice hard leash, you can start blue and take very little damage. The ring will give you some extra HP(to help your passive out) as well as a lot of damage and mana regen.
Early Items:

Explanation: You want to get your boots asap, as your ganks aren't particularly scary without them. The second dorans for more sustain and damage; and the kages for the extra GP/10 and so you can build DFG later.
Haunting Guise is a very situational item. If you got first blood or a successful gank early, you can opt to build a guise. It's a strong item with every stat benefiting you. More MPen and AP for more damage, and the HP to help you survive a bit longer.
Core:
![items/void-staff.png [items/void-staff.png]](guide/items/void-staff.png)
Explanation: Sorc shoes are pretty much core for any mage. Same with Deathcap. Your ratios are just too amazing to amazing to pass up. DFG is a great item on Gragas as it adds a lot of damage to your amazing burst combo. Void Staff is another core mage item.
Situational:

Explanation: If the game has gone on this long, an Abyssal is a great buy. Gives you more MR and a bit of Mpen. Rylais gives your Q a slow which can help your team set up for some nice plays. Frozen is just a great item if the enemy team is filled with AD. Zhonya's is always a great choice as well.
Always:

Explanation: Keep your lanes safe from ganks.
Jungling
Pre-jungle Notes
-Both your Q and your E have an attack speed slow. This is a huuuge asset.
-Your W is amazing, and should always be running.
-Remember to stagger your spells, to ensure that you don't lose out on your passive.
Start blue, with a hard leash you should be able to take blue down fast. Alternately, you can start wolves if you're feeling confident with your team's help. Either way, do blue and wolves in whichever order you prefer, then hit wraiths, then golems. You should be somewhat low after golems, so head back and buy boots and a pot. From here it's your choice whether you clear wolves wraiths red and golems, or if you start ganking.
Early Game
As a burst mage in the jungle, you have one huge advantage over the traditional tanky jungler: burst. If your lane has a hard CC, you can easily gank at 3. A QE combo does a ton of damage, and can easily force a flash or net you first blood.
Mid Game
Now that you have your ultimate, your ganks have become much much more deadly. You have another huge damage nuke, and that huge damage nuke can get people incredibly out of position. If somebody gets over confident and pushes a little too far, you can knock them into your tower and force their flash; letting you and your teammate jump on them.
Late Game
Now that your build is nearing it's end, your damage potential is massive. Now you're tasked with poking enemies down before you team fight. Q does a lot of damage, and is a great tool during sieges. As far as your ultimate goes, you can either use it to engage, in the middle of an engagement, or to disengage. If your team has somebody with a hard initation ability, like
, you can use your ultimate to split the enemy team up, giving your team a HUGE advantage.
Team Fights
During team fights you want to make sure that you only use your E if you feel very safe. Gragas without his E up is very vulnerable. It's always alright to sit at the edge chucking your Q your R and your DFG at the enemy.
Final Comments
Gragas is not somebody you'd generally consider to be found in the jungle. While he may not be tier one, he is still viable for lower elo play. He's a lot of fun, and his ganks are insane.Thank you for reading my guide. I'd love it if you'd leave me a comment, whether it's you calling me an idiot, or offering advice on how to make the guide better. Feedback is always appreciated.
Thanks <3

also my concern here is not how tanky is gragas but how much of a thread is him. i can see his ganks working and all but with your build you are relying the tank role on his ulti and a slow which is not enough to direct the focus to you in my opinion. wouldnt it be better to add a little bit of ap or well ad in the build?
