Introduction
Cho'gath is a very sustainable laner, like Nidalee or Vlad. Farming should not be a problem for Cho'gath, and since his ultimate gives him a huge chunk of HP, a well farmed Cho should be near impossible to kill.
Being able to enter the fray with complete confidence, be as disruptive as possible with Rupture and Feral Scream is what makes Cho scary, and did I mention nomnom?
Masteries
0/9/21

Cooldowns, Nimbleness, Movespeed... all critical for Cho.
I choose a full defensive setup, because you do True damage, Dodge on quints since Cho already gets a lot of HP from his ultimate, making other defensive stats more attractive.
Summoner Spells
[summoners/ignite.png][summoners/flash.png]

Explanation:

Ignite to land kills with Rupture/Feralscream/nomnom combo.

Flash to make plays and manage situations.
Skills
[skills/chogath/p.png] Passive: Carnivore

Whenever Cho'Gath kills a unit, he recovers 34 - 68 (+2.5 each level) health and 3.5-7.75 mana (+0.25 each level).

Explanation:

Cho's passive allows him to be unmovable in lane.

[skills/chogath/q.png] Q: Rupture

Ruptures the ground at target location. After a short delay, enemies are launched into the air for 1 second, dealt 80 / 135 / 190 / 245 / 305 (+100% of ability power) magic damage, and have their movement speed slowed by 60% for 3 seconds.

Cooldown 10 seconds

Cost 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 / 120 mana

Range 950

Explanation:

Great as a follow-up AoE knockup, good for clearing waves. Don't forget about the slow at the end it's also very nice!

[skills/chogath/w.png] W: Feral Scream

Cho'Gath screams in a cone in front of him, silencing enemies for 2 / 2.5 / 3 / 3.5 / 4 second(s) and causing 75 / 125 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+70% of ability power) magic damage.

Cooldown 16 seconds

Cost 70 / 80 / 90 / 100 / 110 mana

Range 300

Explanation:

Silence is an amazing CC.
Great for harassing in lane.
Wave clearer, combo'd with Rupture.

[skills/chogath/e.png] E: Vorpal Spikes

Toggle: Cho'gath's physical attacks launch spikes which deal 20 / 35 / 50 / 65 / 80 (+30% of ability power) magic damage to a line in front of him.

Range 40

Explanation:

Adds decent damage to Cho's auto attacks.
Scales very well with AS (Wit's end)

[skills/chogath/r.png] R: Feast

Deals 300 / 475 / 650 (+70% of ability power) damage to target champion, or 1000 damage to target minion (ignores resists).

If the target is killed by Feast, Cho'Gath grows, gaining 90 / 120 / 150 maximum health (maximum 6 stacks). Cho'Gath loses up to half (rounded up) stacks upon death.

Cooldown 60 seconds

Cost 100 mana

Range 100

Explanation:

Very strong ultimate, gives Cho needed HP to scale with Frozen Heart(pure armor) and FoN(regen)
Scales with CDR(frozen heart)
True damage is amazing.

Skill Order
R - W - Q - E

R whenever
W to be able to harass in lane.
Q next for the AoE combo.
E last

Very great guide. I've been playing a really great Cho for a few months thanks to you.

On thing I'd say is I prefer abyssal over banshee in endgame. I usually don't like banshee&GA on tanks since your goal is getting focused. And I don'T think tank cho really needs a banshee. After FON and FH I tend to go on thornmail or Wit's end, depending. After that, if I'm against big AD I finish randuin and build an Atma, and if I'm against AP I get Abyssal (or Quicksilver if I don't have mercs)

First, if you play Cho right you should have max stacks pretty quickly, that should give you enough hp. Second it doesn't matter how much hp you have if they cant do dmg to you

Maxing W is better than Q because it's less gimmicky and the CC scales throughout the levels, whereas Q is a one-point-wonder used for the static CC throughout the level (zoning and setting up for W/R/ganks).

Maxing Scream first also makes it cost more mana, thus being harder to use it more often. It also has less damage. The longer silence is nice, but if you can hit the Q with some stability, it's way more effective of a harass.
Rushing Frozen Heart or FoN is just silly. I'm not telling you to rush warmogs like a billion other fools, but it leaves you with not much HP, and negligible damage to most, especially if you're maxing scream which has a longer cd. He still has good interruption in fights, but I find Cho to be kinda meh when he's not either dishing out damage or soaking it up. I always end up with a Veil first on him. Nothing is more annoying than flashing to a target to nom, only to get a stun/snare/silence smacked at you. From there, I get a chain vest, then an abyssal. Basic tanky mage.

Well, LightBao, having a longer silence on the W is way beter than some extra dmg on rupture, which is also harder to land.
And dmg wise they are nearly the same.

Humm, dunno about maxing W before Q...

Notice on your browser tab it says "CHO' GATH BUILD GUIDE (with his title)" it's a "build guide" not a "champion + gameplay guide." He did play cho in his marathon and it went extremely well. it didn't go well merely because his team was good. he carried and I'm sure he's had more experience as cho before the marathon, as even if you watch the video, he analyzes each of cho's abilities thoroughly and notes situations where they would be useful and how to land his Q more easily. Take in Chaox's full discourse on the champion and note that it is a build guide afterall before you write it off.
