Introduction
Hi there, I'm Barph, a random no one you have never heard of who mains Ahri, and this is my guide to her.
Ahri is an incredibly versatile AP Assassin, She unlike other assassins has a choice as she does not need to be an assassin if her team doesn't need one or if the enemy team is too difficult to pull off assassinations. She can just as easily pick up [items/liandrys-torment.png][items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png] and contribute to the team via heavy AoE damage. She is also particularly strong against melee champions in lane. Sadly the versatility that Ahri has does come with a pricetag, She lacks the insane laning strength that most assassins have and as a result, Ahri beats most people that assassins beat(though it does not come as easily) but she does not beat the other assassins.

I originated as a LeBlanc player, but got frustrated at her lack of ability to carry, she can assassinate a carry, but then isn't the greatest after that until she gets her ultimate back off cooldown, thats where Ahri comes in, I play her exactly like I do LeBlanc, as a soft burst mage, Ahri can do what LeBlanc can do, but she can do it late game with the addition of some great AoE damage, Ahri also brings such strong versatility, if an AP assassin isn't what the team needs she can build and play more like a traditional mage.

I'll add S3 stats once I actually get a reasonable number of games played.

Note that you will see I have some rather unorthodox runes/masteries/skill orders/whatnot, this is not an ordinary guide on how to play Ahri, anyone can tell you to max [skills/ahri/q.png] and build [items/dorans-ring.png][items/dorans-ring.png][items/sorcerers-shoes.png][items/abyssal-scepter.png][items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png], instead this is how I play her, Everyone finds their own little niche on champions they play often and theres already enough starting guides to my fox.
Pros'n'Cons
Pros

  • The most versatile AP Assassin in the game

  • Very safe when [skills/ahri/r.png] is ready for use

  • AoE true damage with [skills/ahri/q.png]

  • Incredible chase and kite potential through use of [skills/ahri/r.png] and [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]+[skills/ahri/w.png]

  • LeBlanc style burst but viable playstyle late game for teamfights.

  • Free sustain

  • One of the strongest midlane gankers

  • She is a sexy fox human hybrid

Cons

  • Without [skills/ahri/r.png] shes a sitting duck

  • Close range on her combo makes her very vurnerable

  • Skillshots on [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png] and short range on [skills/ahri/w.png] lead to somewhat unreliable damage sometimes

  • Brush destroys her in 1vs1's

  • Shutdown by movement impairing effects making her an easy target in teamfights

  • Lacks the lane strength that other assassins have early game.

  • [champ/swain.png]

  • If you have a bad game, you are next to useless as you offer less than average utility for teamfights

OFFENCE

[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093909/leagueoflegends/images/8/88/Summoner%27s_Wrath_mastery_s3.png] Gives 5 AD and AP when [summoners/ignite.png] is on Cooldown.

Summoner Masteries are made to be very very good, for 1 point the 5 AD/AP is well worth the investment(Assuming you run [summoners/ignite.png]).

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093847/leagueoflegends/images/1/1d/Sorcery_mastery_s3.png] 1/2/3/4% CDR per rank.

3 points are required to advance into the next tier of masteries and Sorcery is the obvious choice for a mage, free CDR what more could you want?

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093549/leagueoflegends/images/8/89/Blast_mastery_s3.png]>[http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093349/leagueoflegends/images/1/17/Arcane_Knowledge_mastery_s3.png] 1 AP per level + 8% spell penetration.
[/highlight]
Not optional, Every mage in the game should invest at least enough points into offence to get these masteries.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093730/leagueoflegends/images/5/51/Havoc_mastery_s3.png] 0.67/1.33/2% Increased Damage.

A lot of people prefer to go into Butcher(+4 AD against minions) to help with last hitting over Havoc, But I prefer to get the 2% more damage as late game 2% can add up to be a fair amount of damage on spells especially ones that hit multiple targets, it will certainly do more than Butcher late game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121215071353/leagueoflegends/images/d/d4/Spellsword_mastery_s3.png] Autoattacks deal an extra 5% of your total AP in magic damage.

I love this mastery, makes last hitting scale into late game as you end up getting up to 30 extra damage on your autoattacks, for 1 point it is well worth it!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093823/leagueoflegends/images/d/df/Mental_Force_mastery_s3.png][http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093456/leagueoflegends/images/8/8d/Archmage_mastery_s3.png][http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093651/leagueoflegends/images/d/d5/Executioner_mastery_s3.png]

These 3 are No-Brainers, nothing else competes with them, they increase your damage, go get em.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

DEFENCE

[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20121215072419/leagueoflegends/images/2/21/Durability_mastery_s3.png] Grants 1.5/3/4.5/6 health per level

I go into defence to get the MR, but thats tier 2 so obviously I need to get 4 points in there first to get it, this is the most sensible option.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

[http://images1.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093829/leagueoflegends/images/4/4e/Resistance_mastery_s3.png] 2/3.5/5 bonus magic resistance.

It may not seem like much but combined with the +6.7 from the runes, starting 42 MR is very helpful running this route allows you to get max damage with AP per Levels but not be made of paper when it comes to dueling your lane.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------

Thats 21/7/0! 2 spare points to spend on whatever you like!

With the 2 free points you are free to spend, I suggest putting them in some of the following.

[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093622/leagueoflegends/images/3/33/Butcher_mastery_s3.png] for easier last hitting.

[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093816/leagueoflegends/images/c/cd/Meditation_mastery_s3.png] Mana regen is always nice.

[http://images3.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093847/leagueoflegends/images/1/1d/Sorcery_mastery_s3.png] Finish up to get that last 1% CDR.

[http://images2.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093723/leagueoflegends/images/7/77/Hardiness_mastery_s3.png] Some extra armour to help mitigate minion damage and AA harass.

[http://images4.wikia.nocookie.net/__cb20130406093930/leagueoflegends/images/d/dc/Veteran%27s_Scars_mastery_s3.png] Reach further in the defence tree for a rather strong 30 hp early game.

Alternatively if you want to run utility over the defence masteries you can try this
[http://i.imgur.com/osbnC.jpg]
  • I get the points in artificer for obvious reasons, to reduce the cooldown of [items/deathfire-grasp.png]
These runes go with the 21/7/2 masteries I recommend above.

Quints

Quints don't really vary much for mages, 99% of the time it is for 4.95 AP quints as they give the most bang for your buck, huge difference early game and the other 1% is for movement speed quints if that suits you.

Marks

For mages hybrid runes appear to have surfaced as the best choice for you, which they are at the moment as the extra armour penetration in lane adds up to being more damage than the magic penetration due to the amount you autoattack and the amount of damage your autoattacks deal in relation to your abilities.
If you can't afford them just run normal magic penetration marks.

Seals

Here I run 9x AP per level seals simply because, combined with 4 AP per level glyphs, you get 1 more AP late game than running 9 AP per level blues, this free up 5 glyph spots.

Glyphs

And those 5 glyph spots get used for flat MR, giving you +6.7 MR, coupled up with the defensive masteries, lets you enter lane with 42 MR without losing out on any damage.

Summoner Spells
[summoners/flash.png]

Flash is brilliant, it really is, theres a reason everyone takes it. In lane this is what keeps you safe from ganks, but its also great for very fast engages, if the laner is at the otherside of the minions from you, [summoners/flash.png] into [skills/ahri/r.png] for a melee engage can take them by surprise its so fast. When getting away before teamfights, use [skills/ahri/r.png] before [summoners/flash.png] to escape, simply due to the cooldown difference BUT, late game during teamfights, flash first to escape from a sticky situation as your [skills/ahri/r.png] is worth a whole lot more in a teamfight that could break out in the next minute.

Remember, this is not just a defensive summoner, the distance Ahri can cover with [summoners/flash.png][skills/ahri/r.png] allows for the element of surprise, much like in this video.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[summoners/ignite.png]

It helps you kill people! Fantastic choice.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[summoners/barrier.png]

It's really good! brilliant choice against someone bursty that you feel will give you are hard time, and barrier baiting is always great.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[summoners/teleport.png]

An ideal choice if you are willing to part with ignite to focus on destroying bot lane with teleport ganks or counter ganking. This is my choice over ignite most of the time, but it's really down to your playstyle rather than your champion that decides whether or not you should take teleport.

-----------------------------------------------------------

[summoners/heal.png]- Isn't worth it, Heal is a support spell, if you want heal, Barrier serves the same purpose only better.

[summoners/exhaust.png]- if you use it correctly, exhaust can be a great aid to you, it makes [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png] nigh impossible to miss, and more importantly if timed well, it can save you from the burst of [champ/annie.png][champ/leblanc.png], it's also great for escaping an early gank without using flash.

[summoners/clarity.png]- Don't do it! this summoner is a complete noob trap regardless of champion, it will do nothing for you late game and even though Ahri has terrible mana(lowest base mana and scaling of all ranged mages, and amoung the lowest regen scaling) it is still just bad.

[summoners/clairvoyance.png]- Get out you aint no support.

[summoners/ghost.png]- I see many who recommend this over [summoners/flash.png] due to the fact that Ahri has 3 flashes [skills/ahri/r.png], but I feel that encourages you to use your ult as a flash, which you shouldn't, its a damage move. In addition Ahri is so slow(305 base MS) that ghost won't really help you escape from much that [summoners/flash.png] wouldn't be superior for.

[summoners/promote.png]- If you are considering this... why not, just take it.

[summoners/revive.png]- You are not [champ/karthus.png]

[summoners/smite.png]- Take it, it makes last hitting easier.

[summoners/cleanse.png]- Meh, If you really need cleanse, [items/quicksilver-sash.png] would probably be better as its already a very situational thing to need rather than using a summoner slot.

[summoners/rally.png]- I don't know what this even does...
Skills
[skills/ahri/p.png] Passive: Soul Eater

Ahri gains a charge of Soul Eater whenever one of her spells hits an enemy (max: 3 charges per spell). Upon reaching 9 charges, Ahri's next spell has 35% Spell Vamp.

Explanation:

A really nice sustain in lane passive, once you get 9 stacks just fire a [skills/ahri/q.png] through a wave for a hefty heal. A neat trick to pull off with this, is if you are low on health and really need the heal for the next wave, fire a [skills/ahri/q.png] through to hit the wraith camp, this will give you 3 easy charges.

This passive has a visible indicator when its ready, Ahri's orb goes from blue to green and makes a rather annoying sound to tell you its ready.

[skills/ahri/q.png] Q: Orb of Deception

Ahri throws out and pulls back her orb, dealing 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 (+33% of ability power) magic damage on the way out and 40 / 65 / 90 / 115 / 140 (+33% of ability power) true damage on the way back.

Cooldown: 7 seconds

Cost: 60/65/70/75/80 mana

Range: 880

Explanation:

A really good typical Q spell, its got a nice range on it, easy to land(unless close range) and the true damage portion of it is great in teamfights or against high defence champs. The easiest way to land this is to go for a max range hit so that both the magic and true damage portions hit at pretty much the same time.

Take note that the range indicator for this spell is considerably shorter than its true range, the spells range is 880 units(almost 9 [champ/teemo.png]s) but the range indicator cuts off short.
This shows its true range, about an orbs length longer than its indicator.

[skills/ahri/w.png] W: Fox-Fire

Ahri releases three fox-fires, which after a short delay lock on and attack nearby enemies (prioritizes champions), dealing 40 / 70 / 100 / 130 / 160 (+40% of ability power) magic damage. Additional fox-fires that hit the same target deal 50% damage, up to a maximum total damage of 80 / 130 / 180 / 230 / 280 (+80% of ability power).

Cooldown: 9 / 8 / 7 / 6 / 5 Seconds

Cost: 60 mana

Range: 800

Explanation:

This is what makes Ahri, this spell is godlike. It has insane damage and a very low cooldown. It is actually the best spell in the game.
In addition it procs
  • Full spellvamp(each foxfire counts as a single target spell)
  • [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]s full slow.

Each of the foxfires has an individual range, so make sure when fighting enemy champions that all 3 are in range otherwise 1 or 2 of the foxfires will fly off to nearby minions. So the range may be stated as 800, its effective range is closer to 500-600.

[skills/ahri/e.png] E: Charm

Ahri blows a kiss that deals 60 / 90 / 120 / 150 / 180 (+35% of ability power) magic damage to an enemy and charms it, causing them to walk harmlessly towards her for 1 / 1.25 / 1.5 / 1.75 / 2 seconds.

Cooldown: 12 Seconds

Cost: 50/65/80/95/110 Mana

Range: 975

Explanation:

Most powerful CC type in the game, great for catching people out in standoff teamfights or just keeping people still so that u can land an easy [skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png].
Take note outside of melee range, this isn't the easiest skill shot to land, it has a noticable cast time on it coupled with a thin projectile and an average speed.

[skills/ahri/r.png] R: Spirit Rush

Ahri dashes forward and fires essence bolts, damaging 3 nearby enemies (prioritizes champions) for 85 / 125 / 165 (+35% of ability power) magic damage per bolt. Spirit Rush can be cast up to three times before going on cooldown.

Explanation:

This is Ahri's lifeline, if you have to use this to escape, thats not good. When its on cooldown you are a sitting duck and should play like one. The synergy this has with Ahri's kit is why shes so good, its fantastic champion design.
Thanks to the triple flash, Ahri can use this to
  • Get an easier or clear shot to land [skills/ahri/e.png]
  • Get her in range to [skills/ahri/w.png]
  • Allows making the true damage portion of [skills/ahri/q.png] easier to land.

NOTE: despite being an AoE spell, [skills/ahri/r.png] benefits from the full effect of the spellvamp from [skills/ahri/p.png], this does not apply to [items/hextech-revolver.png][items/will-of-the-ancients.png] though, it keeps its reduced spell vamp on items. 1 jump will consume the passive.

Although the range indicator for [skills/ahri/r.png] is longer than [summoners/flash.png], the spell remains a dash, so make sure you are right beside the wall if you are trying to dash threw it but don't be surprised if it fails to clear the thicker walls.

Warning!

Unless you are in one of these, they are not your friend, Ahri's [skills/ahri/r.png] will only fire essence bolts at enemies who are in line of sight at the time of cast, if fighting amoungst the bushes, a smart opponent can use this to their advantage and get you to blow your charges on nothing! be sure to cast [skills/ahri/r.png] from inside the bush!
Skill Order
[http://i.imgur.com/I4U9E6c.png]

Any of Ahri's abilities is fine to take a level 1, [skills/ahri/q.png] allows for safe damage/last hitting, [skills/ahri/w.png] allows for heavier early harass against melee champions and [skills/ahri/e.png] is ideal if you expect a level 1 fight in either teams jungle.

When to max:

[skills/ahri/q.png]

Generally you max this first, Against most mages it provides the safest and most reliable harass, it also is your main farming tool.
------------------------------------------------
[skills/ahri/w.png]

This is maxed when you are against a melee champion where you can abuse the constant barrage of harass it offers when maxed first, it gimps your farming ability but it should zone your opponent if used often enough. Champions I max this first against include [champ/evelynn.png][champ/fizz.png][champ/leesin.png], Generally champions where you can get close enough to hit them with it without risking a major counterattack.
------------------------------------------------
[skills/ahri/e.png]

You don't max this first ever silly!

An alternate skill order for maximum reliability to kill your lane at the cost of easy farming is to go 3 points into [skills/ahri/q.png] then start maxing [skills/ahri/w.png]
The DFG Jump Combo
This is your kill combo, I recommend you do what I do, and find a nice comfortable button to use your [items/deathfire-grasp.png], I have it smartcast bound to my mousewheel click, allowing for a very smooth combo without fumbling all over the keyboard with drool.

Open with:[items/deathfire-grasp.png][skills/ahri/w.png][skills/ahri/r.png] all at the same time, the [items/deathfire-grasp.png] travels faster than [skills/ahri/w.png][skills/ahri/r.png] so it should hit first!

Immediately follow with:[skills/ahri/e.png] then [skills/ahri/q.png] and another [skills/ahri/r.png]

Finally:Wait for [skills/ahri/w.png] to come off cooldown and finish them off(if they are still alive) with [skills/ahri/w.png] and your last [skills/ahri/r.png]

Items

[items/crystalline-flask.png]+[items/health-potion.png]/[items/mana-potion.png]/[items/sight-ward.png]

The ultimate sustain choice, a flask with any combination of the other consumables is the stay in lane forever start, I'd recommend you run this kind of start against people who you are not confident against or want a safe long lane before you back. I tend to run [items/crystalline-flask.png][items/health-potion.png][items/sight-ward.png]

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png]

No longer a must start due to the movement speed, and TBH is quite a weak start. I'd recommend you go ward/pots starts over boots at all times.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/dorans-ring.png]

If you feel you need the early game boost or simply don't have enough gold to get anything bigger, a ring can't go wrong. I would avoid getting more than 1 though as it starts to fill up your inventory and the more dorans you get, the more money you waste on them as they are generally a 285g investment per ring on early game strength.
DO NOT START WITH THIS ITEM!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/haunting-guise.png]>[items/liandrys-torment.png]

Haunting Guise early game, is effectively a dorans on steroids, its such a strong item that getting it will make you a early game powerhouse.

Later on, you can upgrade to [items/liandrys-torment.png], I recommend only getting this AFTER you have a [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png], that way you are getting the most out of it as your [skills/ahri/w.png] will be proccing the double damage proc for the duration of the [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png] slow.
Generally Liandry's is not an optimal item choice for burst mages, but since after Ahri's initial burst she still has decent sustained damage(which is usually accompanied by soft CC[items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]) unlike other bursters, it actually is perfectly reasonable to get for Ahri. In addition, the active from [items/deathfire-grasp.png] applies both Liandrys and Rylais.

This item probably has the most significant effect on your overall teamfight damage outside of 100-0ing a priority target, it really is brilliant.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/deathfire-grasp.png]

This is Ahri's bread and butter, it should almost always be the first major item to be completed as its stats are just insane. A huge amount of AP and her most sensible source of CDR, and then, the active, allowing her to burst any soft champion from 100-0 in 1 [skills/ahri/r.png] jump.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/rabadons-deathcap.png]

I often make this my 2nd major item completion as like with every other mage in this game, this item is hardly optional, it's just too good.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/seekers-armguard.png]

A godsend from the lords of Riot, there isn't much to say about this item except, if you are against an AD midlane, rush this item.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/zhonyas-hourglass.png]

If you find yourself getting focused or are against someone that can be countered by the active([champ/gragas.png][champ/karthus.png][champ/kennen.png][champ/malphite.png]), you can't go wrong with this item, it requires you be quick to react though especially when trying to avoid fast ults such as Malphites [skills/malphite/r.png]. This item allows for some pretty amazing plays late game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png]

Ahri is one of the best Rylai's users in the game, this item is another item I feel isn't really an optional on Ahri, its just so good with her kit I'd recommend it be on every build at some point. Reasons being:
  • It gives 500HP, making it Ahri's most balanced defensive item, and gives her a bit more beef that she needs to survive getting close in fights.
  • It is very efficient, when completing this item, you get the stats you pay for, and the slow for free!
  • [skills/ahri/w.png] has a low cooldown and procs the full 35% slow, making Ahri a very good kiter/chaser, and even if she isn't doing either in a teamfight, those random foxfires are crippling whoever they hit, potentially securing kills or saving teammates without effort.
  • Ahri doesn't have any natural movement impairing effects, so this causes all of her spells to slow, doubling the effectiveness of the passive on [items/liandrys-torment.png] should you be getting it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/void-staff.png]

Helps deal with MR stackers, this item after [items/deathfire-grasp.png][items/rabadons-deathcap.png] provides the most damage you can find as most people end up with around 100 MR late game.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/abyssal-scepter.png]

This is a really good item as an early buy, personally I only get this if I feel the enemy AP damage is threatening enough to justify losing some damage from [items/void-staff.png] for the defence it provides as you don't get both, they are both penetration items and you only have space in your inventory for 1.

In terms of "threatening AP" I mean things like laning against [champ/leblanc.png] or if the enemy jungler is [champ/amumu.png] or the top is [champ/rumble.png].

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/will-of-the-ancients.png]

Sustain is great on Ahri, her [skills/ahri/w.png] benefits fully from it and is spammable for a rather large amount of healing in fights, additionally the synergy with [skills/ahri/p.png] allows a [skills/ahri/q.png] through a wave on minions to pretty much heal 50% of your health in one spell, As good as this item is, I only recommend you get it if your team is running double AP, even better if the other AP is also a WotA user for the double buff([champ/kennen.png][champ/vladimir.png][champ/rumble.png]). Make sure both you and the other WotA user complete your books before teamfights start for the best benefit from it.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/guardian-angel.png]

A broken item, Come late game in an even fight, which ever team has the most GA's tends to be the victor[champ/viktor.png], though in most situations I find [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] is the better defensive choice(+ it gives 120 AP)

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/twin-shadows.png]

Not actually a bad item for a mage to go for since it gives AP/MS/MR, a rather nice combination of defensive stats, in addition the active makes it incredibly difficult for people to keep up with you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/morellonomicon.png]

Very cost efficient CDR and a pretty cheap item, if you want the extra CDR over the durability of [items/liandrys-torment.png] or [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png] feel free to grab one of these.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/sorcerers-shoes.png]

Simply the best choice for a mage, magic penetration > ALL, the only other choice would be [items/ionian-boots-of-lucidity.png] but you already get the 15% CDR from [items/deathfire-grasp.png] and you don't need more than 15% as your masteries get you to 18 and blue buff gets you to 38%

What tier 3?

All the tier 3's I recommend getting after your complete build, as the money is still better spent on other items.

[items/enchantment-furor.png] - This is probably the best one to go for as [skills/ahri/w.png] will keep you speedy in fights

[items/enchantment-distortion.png] - Pretty simple really, but the problem is rarely do I find myself in the situation where I need flash to come off CD to survive, not saying its bad though, 25% is a lot of CDR for it.

[items/enchantment-alacrity.png] - Another real simple one, I don't really see any reason to get this over furor though.

[items/enchantment-captain.png] - This is for tanky initiators, not for squidgy mages.

[items/enchantment-homeguard.png] - Since all the other boot enchants are not worth getting before you finish your build these are the ones you will end up buying most often since they are just amazing when the game you are in is close and every second counts.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Not so good items

[items/archangels-staff.png]>[items/seraphs-embrace.png]

Ahri is a poor [items/tear-of-the-goddess.png] stacker, she is a combo mage, not a consistant damage mage, so it takes too long to stack this fully, additionally you probably won't be buying any items that it synergises with(other mana items) so you can't even make the most out of its passive, too many other better choices.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/banner-of-command.png]

This is a very niche, more of a support item than anything, you are probably doing yourself more harm than good getting this unless you and your team are using its promote passive properly.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/athenes-unholy-grail.png]

Before the nerf this was a great item to get on Ahri, infact it was the only real CDR choice, but now, with 30 less AP, its not very desirable for 3 reasons.
  • It's a CDR item, and you need a [items/deathfire-grasp.png], those 2 + masteries would leave you at 33% meaning blue buff would be a waste, admittidly if you get both you can pass up blue to someone else, but thats too much item space spent on CDR.
  • 60 AP is very low for an end game item, as a combo mage late game mana isn't one of your main issues, so this is passing out on AP to solve a problem you don't have.
  • As an MR item, [items/abyssal-scepter.png] surpasses it heavily with more MR and more damage.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/shard-of-true-ice.png]

AP Doesn't make it an AP carry item! it's a support item!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/lich-bane.png]

Lichbane is a very niche item that is great on the people that it fits on([champ/fizz.png][champ/lux.png][champ/twistedfate.png]) but Ahri isn't one of them, Lichbane is a good item ofcourse, but it just isn't fitting for your playstyle.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/malady.png]

This combined with the spellsword mastery and you will be autoattacking like an AD Carry!... not really.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/mejais-soulstealer.png]

If your best interest is winning, Mejai's is a bad choice, as soon as you buy it you are literally throwing away a 2 kill lead in gold until you get 5 stacks, the item is too risky(especially with Ahri's range). The gold you spend on this is better spent on building items that are not gambles.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/nashors-tooth.png]

You shouldn't even be considering this as attack speed is wasted gold for you.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/rod-of-ages.png]

A good item on the people that buy it, but on burst mages this item is bad. It is too expensive for so little offensive power early game, not only that but its getting in the way of [items/deathfire-grasp.png] which is unacceptable.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------

[items/spirit-of-the-spectral-wraith.png]

You are not jungling(atleast I hope you ain't...), From a purely selfish point of view, this is actually better than [items/will-of-the-ancients.png] but I'd still recommend if you want spellvamp you go for the book as it will benefit your team as a whole more, unless you are running an autoattack heavy team.

Early Game
[http://wac.7725.edgecastcdn.net/807725/website/wp-content/uploads/2012/07/firefox-ahri-slpash-pbe1.jpg]
If you don't have this skin you are doing it wrong!

Ahri despite the common beliefs, isn't fantastic in lane early game as far as mages go, she has mana issues that limit how often she can trade, and her damage outside of a perfect EQW is mediocre, alot of people can abuse this.
So until you have [items/deathfire-grasp.png], just play it safe, farm farm farm, try to avoid using spells to clear waves unless necessary. Do take advantage of the opening to trade though, should they deliver themselves into an easy E, you should abuse that.

If you start with a [items/crystalline-flask.png] flask combo, generally you should try aim for 1675g on your first back, this allows you to get [items/sight-ward.png][items/needlessly-large-rod.png], with such a huge boost in early game AP you will really feel the damage. Although if you can't afford that then items like[items/fiendish-codex.png][items/amplifying-tome.png][items/dorans-ring.png] are all fine early buys. Most of the time on my 2nd back I end up getting a [items/deathfire-grasp.png] without any other items, and that is perfectly ok to do so, don't let people make you think that boots are 100% always needed on mages, but do try get atleast [items/boots-of-speed.png] before your 2nd major item completion.

In lane its very simple, try get some harass off with [skills/ahri/q.png] and always look for the oppertunity to [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png]. Once you have [items/deathfire-grasp.png], with [summoners/ignite.png] you should be able to 100-0 all but the most durable opponents.
Mid Game
Once your midlane has experienced the glory of your LeBlanc-esque burst, push your lane with [skills/ahri/q.png] and its time to introduce the botlanes to it, via lane gank or just running through the river if they are overextended, AD carries and support at this stage are very easy to kill so you shouldn't have a problem with it.
Personally I find lane ganks(coming through lane and sneaking in the bush) work best, be sure to confirm that there are no wards in the side bushes before you do this. Here is a nice and easy botlane gank with little resistance. [champ/ashe.png] had already used flash so she is pretty much a free kill.

Toplane is harder to do it too but if both toplanes have fought recently and are under 60% hp, you can easily go there via their jungle([summoners/flash.png] would be required against blue team) and tower dive.

Late Game and Teamfights.
Your priority job at this stage is to kill either of the carries, with your [items/deathfire-grasp.png] combo and using the mobility [skills/ahri/r.png] to get to and away from your target safely, carries will be easy to kill should you catch them offguard or too close to the front of their team.
This video shows a rather nice situation where the rather fed [champ/corki.png] is at the back of the enemy lines, but I use [skills/ahri/r.png][summoners/flash.png] to bypass their tank line to get to corki.
Note that although I miss [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png], the damage from the initial combo is enough for [champ/corki.png] to panic [skills/corki/w.png] away and get caught by [champ/warwick.png]s [skills/warwick/r.png] allowing the damage from my [summoners/ignite.png] to finish him off.

If you can't get through their tank line, you can always just play as a regular Ahri, offering your AoE damage with no real focus, just make sure you are dealing damage.

During stalemates, should it be them or you pushing at a tier 3 tower(thats the inhibitor tower), catching ANYONE with [skills/ahri/e.png] can provide a very strong initiate as the victim of it should die before it ends.

Favourable Match ups
Although I give a build order for the match ups, please don't follow it religiously, adapt to your opponent. The difficulties of these champions are based almost entirely on 1vs1 situations, thet introduction of the jungler is a massive wildcard and can really screw things up(Fiddle for example is terrifying[skills/fiddlesticks/q.png] with a junglers aids)
  • Tons of enemy AP damage? [items/abyssal-scepter.png]
  • Are the enemy team building lots of MR? get a [items/void-staff.png] quicker!
  • Running double AP? Fit a [items/will-of-the-ancients.png] into your build!.
  • Fed? find yourself getting nuked down by the enemies before you can do anything? get [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] ASAP!

Build Order

Generally this build order should work against the following champs

[items/deathfire-grasp.png][items/sorcerers-shoes.png][items/rabadons-deathcap.png][items/void-staff.png][items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][items/zhonyas-hourglass.png]

Difficulty Rating: The more [items/bf-sword.png](out of 10) the harder it is

[champ/brand.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
Really straight forward match up, dodge his shit(especially [skills/brand/q.png]), engage on him if he puts ANY of his abilities on cooldown, he is quite soft so should fall over quite easily. To be frank, Brand is out of date.

How to win: Wait for him to use either [skills/brand/q.png] or [skills/brand/w.png] before you engage for a relatively easy kill

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Starting [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] can really help avoid his strong lane harass at the start.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/cassiopeia.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
Very much the same as brand except, once you engage on her, be sure to face away and [skills/ahri/r.png] perpendicular to her to avoid being stunned by her ult[skills/cassiopeia/r.png], she is an easy match up but she will make short work of you if she stuns you.
She will destroy you pre-6 if you get in a fight with her so be careful.

How to win: after landing a [skills/ahri/e.png] abuse the fact you don't need to face her to deal damage with [skills/ahri/w.png] and [skills/ahri/r.png]

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Starting [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] can really help avoid her strong lane harass at the start.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/evelynn.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 3/10 Moderate, Can snowball off roaming
Yes, AP evelynn is a thing, and shes very strong, just not against ahri, shes very soft and you should be able to burst her down before she does the same to you(thanks to [skills/ahri/e.png])

How to win: Try a [items/vision-ward.png] on the south side of the river, this will give you a heads up if eve is heading to gank bot lane, Eve wins her games by ganking bot.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] or [skills/ahri/w.png]
Consider: If Evelyn gets out of hand early in lane, an early [items/abyssal-scepter.png] can help against her as she will always be in range of the aura, later on a well timed [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] can negate her ult.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/ezreal.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png] 1/10 Easy
AP ez is not to be underestimated, his in lane poke and damage is quite terrifying and if he gets you low enough he can kill you but again, he is too soft and has no CC to stop you from just killing him, Play it safe before you get your [items/deathfire-grasp.png].

How to win: Hide behind the minions, Ez can't touch you with [skills/ezreal/q.png] or [skills/ezreal/e.png](which is an important part of his kill combo)

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/fiddlesticks.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy, Fear is scary for ganks
Fiddle in the middle, very niche and can dominate certain champs, [champ/ahri.png] is not one of them, he has strong harass to avoid in the form of his [skills/fiddlesticks/e.png], but your [skills/ahri/e.png] should stop him ever draining[skills/fiddlesticks/w.png] you down and you should be able to burst him downeasily enough.

How to win: Try poke him down so that he will [skills/fiddlesticks/w.png] a minion to heal up followed by an immediate engage when he is standing still for an easy [skills/ahri/r.png][skills/ahri/e.png], ALWAYS WARD BOTH WRAITH CAMPS!

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/gragas.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average, Barrels hurt.
This guy is scary, but the mobility [skills/ahri/r.png] provides during a duel pretty much hard counters his barrel[skills/gragas/q.png] and body slam[skills/gragas/e.png], he shouldn't be able to land them on you giving you the clear advantage, just keep your distance when your [skills/ahri/r.png] is down, if he lands a [skills/gragas/e.png] on you, you dead.

How to win: Abuse [skills/ahri/w.png] as easy harass on a melee champion as much as you can, and try time you [skills/ahri/r.png] during duels to dodge his [skills/gragas/q.png] and [skills/gragas/e.png] rather than using all 3 charges at once.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Starting [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] can really help avoid his strong lane harass at the start.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/janna.png] Difficulty:[items/dagger.png] 0.5/10 Easy
I don't know why people even pick Janna mid, shes a gimick that I rarely see working, she can be a pest to kill as she can just knock you away, but she should never even get close to killing you.

How to win: Try save [summoners/flash.png] for kill attempts, theres a good chance you will need [summoners/flash.png] and a [skills/ahri/r.png] to get back in range of her once she [skills/janna/r.png]s you away after your initial attack.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/karthus.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png] 1/10 Easy
Karthus is in my opinion one of the easiest lanes to destroy, his only strength in lane is that he is very good at farming safely from afar, thats where [skills/ahri/r.png] comes in, you shouldn't be afraid to tower dive this guy constantly, hes free godlike.

How to win: Try baiting him into attempting to [skills/karthus/w.png] you by aggressively running towards him, then back off until the slow has ran out and go back in for a hard engage.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Try getting a [items/elixir-of-fortitude.png] and keeping it in your inventory, then use it during karthus [skills/karthus/r.png] as a mini heal. For late game get a [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] to negate anymore ults.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/kennen.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
One of the most irritating champions in the game, This filthy hamster is luckily not all that bad to lane against as Ahri, Kennen has a major weakness to bursty mages like [champ/leblanc.png][champ/lux.png][champ/veigar.png] and ofcourse with the way you will be playing [champ/ahri.png], just blow him up after he uses his cocaine ball[skills/kennen/e.png] but do remember, Kennen has alot of damage on his ult[skills/kennen/r.png], he can just as easily kill you if he pokes you low with [skills/kennen/q.png].

How to win: Let him use [skills/kennen/e.png] to farm minions(if he is reckless) or force him to by engaging without the use of [skills/ahri/r.png] then engage on him during the short downtime of his cocaine ball.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Try playing extra aggressive against Kennen, he struggles to trade with you especially amoungst minions.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/kogmaw.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 3/10 Easy
Outside of engaging for a kill, Kog'maw beats you to be honest, hes got the poke and the range so you need to absolutely abuse your killing power and never back down, but don't ever engage on him without [skills/ahri/r.png] as he will make short work of you with his close range damage that many underestimate.

How to win: Don't get involved in close range fights without landing a [skills/ahri/e.png], Kog's close range damage will beat you without the aid of CC.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Run movespeed quints to help with dodging his [skills/kogmaw/r.png] late game.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/morgana.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average, Bindings hurt.
Ahri is widely known as a very good counter to morgana because you can use [skills/ahri/r.png] to avoid her ultimate[skills/morgana/r.png], but if you engage on her generally she won't even have time to react, just make sure you get [skills/ahri/e.png] off as quickly as possible before she reacts with blackshield[skills/morgana/e.png]. Wait for her to use either [skills/morgana/e.png] or [skills/morgana/q.png] before you engage for an easy kill.

How to win: Try bait her into attempting to [skills/morgana/q.png] you by giving her an easy shot away from your minions(that obviously you will dodge). Once in a duel wait for her to [skills/morgana/e.png] and remove it before you fire [skills/ahri/e.png]. [skills/ahri/r.png] is great for breaking her [skills/morgana/r.png] off of you.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/nidalee.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
Dodge spears[skills/nidalee/q.png], [skills/ahri/r.png][items/deathfire-grasp.png][skills/ahri/w.png], its that simple.

How to win: Don't get too close when she goes into catform, her damage in kittymode is pretty strong against squishys such as yourself. Don't fight with a [skills/nidalee/w.png] trap on you, the MR shred puts you at a big disadvantage!

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: wear a hat, this may stop you from pulling out your own hair after you get hit by spears.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/soraka.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
Another one of those gimicky champions although she is alot stronger than Janna, you have got the range to farm safely against her until you are ready to fight, try poke her down to bait her heal[skills/soraka/w.png] before you fully commit.

How to win: Don't underestimate [skills/soraka/q.png]s damage, it builds up alot faster than you would expect. Also [skills/soraka/w.png] has a 20 second cooldown, thats your engage window.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/twistedfate.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png] 4/10 Moderate, Exceptional at aiding his jungler and roaming
Dodge cards[skills/twistedfate/q.png], [skills/ahri/r.png][items/deathfire-grasp.png][skills/ahri/w.png], Its that simple.

How to win: Look out for his cards, if its yellow hes quite obviously going to try stun you for a trade, if he seems to be trying too hard it probably means the jungler is nearby, play careful at level 2 as junglers love to gank for this guy. Consider running [summoners/teleport.png] to counter gank as TF will win games by ganking bot lane, not by beating you.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/xerath.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
A champion that CC's himself for you? fantastic! He has 3 delayed skillshot pulses in his form of an ult, ideal for say... a champion with 3 flashs in the form of an ult, you should be able to dance round him as he fumbles and rages at where he should fire but if he catches you with a stun[skills/xerath/e.png], don't be afraid to use your ult to disengage.

How to win: His [skills/xerath/w.png] sets him up for easy engages as he locks himself in place, play carefully if your [skills/ahri/r.png] is on cooldown as you are easier to kill than most without your mobility as Xerath.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/zyra.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 2/10 Easy
Zyra just can't touch Ahri, don't let her kill you pre-5(she can do it with her root[skills/zyra/e.png] and [skills/zyra/w.png][skills/zyra/w.png]), as soon as you both are level 6, let her fire her [skills/zyra/e.png] or put 2 plants down and engage on her out of range of her plants, its a very easy kill. NEVER engage when her [skills/zyra/e.png] isn't off cooldown.

How to win: [skills/ahri/w.png] makes short work of plants used for harass on you, use [skills/ahri/r.png] to fight her away from her own plants, shes easy to deal with if she missed [skills/zyra/e.png]

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/ziggs.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png] 1/10 Easy
His poke is insane, it will make you cry, but if you fight him you will realise all Ziggs actually has is unreliable damage and basicly 0 CC, hes also very soft, real easy kill.

How to win: Other than dodging bombs there really isn't much to say here.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Starting [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] can really help avoid his strong lane harass at the start.
-------------------------------------------------------

Down to the Player
Build Order

Generally this build order should work against the following champs

[items/dorans-ring.png][items/haunting-guise.png][items/sorcerers-shoes.png][items/deathfire-grasp.png][items/rabadons-deathcap.png][items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][items/void-staff.png]
Basicly getting the [items/haunting-guise.png] earlier to give that extra bit of durability as trading against these champions tends to be a lot more even. Get [items/seekers-armguard.png] as a first item against AD's!

[champ/anivia.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] +/- [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] ~5/10 Difficult to kill
Anivia varies from very easy to very hard as Anivia players themselves have quite a large skill gap, Her passive is a nightmare ofcourse as you will not have the damage to take her down and then kill her egg on your own, you will need to egg[skills/anivia/p.png] her then re-engage later before its off cooldown, ideally engage if she fires [skills/anivia/q.png] and misses and try stay out of her R[skills/anivia/r.png]. Her [skills/anivia/e.png][skills/anivia/r.png] harass is very painful but its close range, so if she comes towards you try lure her out of the minions for a[skills/ahri/e.png]. Do what you can to avoid her [skills/anivia/q.png] ball as she will easily chunk 40% of your hp off in 1 combo.

How to win: Dodging [skills/anivia/q.png] is key to avoiding any harass pre-6, once she has her ult though she will go for the easier [skills/anivia/e.png][skills/anivia/r.png] combo, but due to its range it is very obvious and sets her up for easy [skills/ahri/e.png]s

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Run MS quints and start [items/boots-of-speed.png][items/health-potion3.png] as dodging Anivia's [skills/anivia/q.png] is vital to avoiding pre-6 harass.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/elise.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Average, Dangerous combo to avoid

Although Elise is not a mid champ, people do sometimes play her mid, she has VERY strong harass in lane with her [skills/elise/q.png], think of it as a Ryze on steroids and her stun if it lands on you is easily a free 50% of your health but thankfully post-6 if she tries to use her spiderform to kill you, she is very easily kited with [skills/ahri/r.png].

How to win: Keep your distance at all times, don't let her get in range to [skills/elise/q.png] you and every time she tries punish her with a [skills/ahri/q.png] and back off, once you have your ultimates she should have a lot of trouble doing anything to you with her spiderform. Also hide behind your minions as her stun hits the first target it comes in contact with.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: An early [items/abyssal-scepter.png] should make closer range trades should they happen much more favourable for you.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/maokai.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Hard, Burst damage is huge, naturally tanky with sustain

AP Maokai is NOT to be underestimated, his damage when building AP is really high burst, not only that but your spamming on him gives him a lot of sustain, make sure you dodge the saplings as they hurt(its not hard)

How to win: When on low health, bait him to using [skills/maokai/w.png] on you when you are close enough to your tower so that you can [summoners/flash.png][skills/ahri/r.png] into tower range and [skills/ahri/e.png] him as he comes out.

[champ/fizz.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Difficult, Can outplay you hard
Bait shark[skills/fizz/r.png] with [skills/ahri/r.png] and then engage, after that its up to how you use [skills/ahri/e.png] and how he uses his jumpystick[skills/fizz/e.png]. Try abuse AA harass in lane but be careful as Fizz can easily [skills/fizz/w.png][skills/fizz/q.png][skills/fizz/e.png] combo you if you piss him off and that will do alot more than some pansy AA's would.

How to win: It is vital you let him engage with [skills/fizz/r.png] so that you can dodge it with [skills/ahri/r.png], once in a duel don't just throw away your [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png], he has to [skills/fizz/e.png] sooner or later and you should be patient with him.

[champ/lux.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] +/- [items/bf-sword.png] ~5/10 Moderate-hard
Wow Lux can be annoying! She harasses insanely well with [skills/lux/e.png], if she pokes you to <70% she can go for a kill with [skills/lux/q.png][skills/lux/e.png][skills/lux/r.png][skills/lux/p.png], and when you engage on her, its all down to whether the Lux can land her binding[skills/lux/q.png] or whether you can dodge it, that decides the outcome of the fight. Don't go into this match up thinking Lux is a weak mage, she is anything but.

How to win: If she fires [skills/lux/q.png] and misses, you are pretty much safe to engage her as she won't be able to retaliate, focus on dodging [skills/lux/e.png] poke in lane, if she tries to follow it up with an AA to proc her passive, punish her with everything you got.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: getting [items/deathfire-grasp.png] early as possible, as Lux is one of the easier mages to burst down as she is quite the glass cannon.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/leesin.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average

Froggen mid really isn't all that hard, hiding amoungst your ranged minions means he will never land a [skills/leesin/q.png] and he won't outtrade you with only his [skills/leesin/e.png], his sustain is a problem though, you wil have to spam alot to deal with him.

How to win: Trade with [skills/ahri/w.png] amoungst your minions as often as possible, literally whenever its off cooldown, he can't sustain the constant barrage and he can't [skills/leesin/q.png] you.

What to max:[skills/ahri/w.png]
Consider: An early [items/athenes-unholy-grail.png] to supply your needs to spam [skills/ahri/w.png].
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/masteryi.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 4/10 Moderate
AP Yi is a scumbag but luckily Ahri has the tools to handle him in a fight, Save [skills/ahri/e.png] for his meditate[skills/masteryi/w.png] and nothing else, its vital you interupt it. Don't waste your time harassing Yi, he will just heal it back up but if you know [skills/masteryi/w.png] is on cooldown, try go for the kill. and also [items/health-potion5.png]

How to win: He is vulnerable to engages if and when he uses [skills/masteryi/w.png], if you are fighting and he hasn't used it make sure to save [skills/ahri/e.png] for it.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]

[champ/mordekaiser.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average, hard to win without a junglers attention
Stay away from him and max [skills/ahri/q.png] and try to do as much long range harass when his shield is down, always make it a big harass, do as much damage as you can to get through the shield[skills/mordekaiser/p.png] as early game Morde is actually quite soft, exploit the weakness that is his lack of escape and get easy kills with the aid of your jungler, I wouldn't recommend engaging on him unless his shield is at 0.

WARNING: Don't get baited by his low HP as [skills/mordekaiser/r.png] is basically a heal for morde making him seem weaker than he is at low health.

How to win: When mordes shield is down, hes alot softer than he looks, be sure to get any harass you can when he has no shield up and push the lane hard to punish him for farming wraiths/wolves/golems/buffs/dragons(he farms alot is what I'm saying)

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]

[champ/orianna.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average
Her harass is annoying as hell and if she catches you with her ult[skills/orianna/r.png] you are in trouble, do what you can to avoid her Ball[skills/orianna/q.png] harass, if you want to engage make sure it is immediately after she moves the ball, it may be a low cooldown but those 3 seconds are 3 seconds of her being able to do nothing but shield[skills/orianna/e.png] herself.

How to win: Quite difficult as she outfarms and harasses you, best hope is to land some good [skills/ahri/q.png] to get her low, dodging [skills/orianna/r.png] with [skills/ahri/r.png] would be an ideal way to start a fight.

[champ/pantheon.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Hard, Early game he is scary
This lane is decided in the first 6 levels, do all in your power to survive his [skills/pantheon/q.png] harass, Pantheon isn't as tough as he looks, you can still kill him, but his early harass and gank potential is really quite scary, You may need to request aid from your jungler to get the first kill on him but once you get the kill, you can snowball off him quite easily. Be very careful of the jungler as Pantheons [skills/pantheon/w.png] stun is a fantastic gank initiate tool.

How to win: Don't ever let him trade for free, unless he jumps on you you should be able to do more damage to him than him to you especially with autoattacks. Make sure you tell your team if he is missing as alot of Panths power is in his [skills/pantheon/r.png] roaming potential.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: An early [items/chain-vest.png] can work wonders.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/rumble.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Average
Rumble mid happens, and it works, its quite powerful, luckily he won't faceroll stomp Ahri as hard as he does some of the other mages due to him being big and easy to hit while he fumbles through minions, max [skills/ahri/q.png] against him and try land as many [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png]s as possible. Engage on him if he overheats[skills/rumble/p.png] as he can't make the most of his AA's against you due to you being ranged.

How to win: Take advantage of how he will struggle to get by the minions due to the size of his character model, this allows for alot of easy harass on him, and take note of his heat bar, if its nearly full that is a great time to engage as he will overheat, and he can't make use of his extra magic damage on hit against a mobile ranged champ such as yourself.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/ryze.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 7/10 Hard/Dangerous, early ganks=terror

The only time Ahri beats Ryze, is early game(About levels 2-8), you should try abuse this as much as possible, a full [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png] combo will out damage anything he has to offer and once hes lower than 60% hp, [skills/ahri/r.png] can be used to finish him off, but the later the game goes, the more he starts to outtrade you, even if you beat him in lane, he will eventually become too tanky and have too much damage for you to trade with him(unless you are really fed).

The reason Ryze outtrades you so hard is down to 3 reasons
  • His [skills/ryze/w.png] shuts you down, you can't [skills/ahri/r.png] during it pretty much stopping your damage and it allows him to dodge the return part of [skills/ahri/q.png] if he isnt charmed.
  • Ahri in a duel, is a close range mage, and Ryze is pretty much the number 1 close range trading mage in the game, often you will be close enough for his [skills/ryze/e.png] to bounce on you multiple times.
  • He builds tanky, tanky enough that you can't burst him down, and Ryze can burst you down as his 'burst' doesn't end, he has sustained burst if there is such a thing.

How to win: you must poke him down with [skills/ahri/q.png]s and/or a nice [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png] then engage for a kill once your cooldowns are over.

[champ/talon.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Hard
With season 3, this guy hurts a lot! you gotta play really careful against him as he can easily 100-0 you once he gets some items rolling, the only time you can get an advantage is early on, the later it goes on the more likely he will kill you easier.

How to win: Don't let him get away with harassing on you without hitting him with a few autoattacks and atleast a [skills/ahri/q.png] as he runs off, Talon has no sustain early game!

What to max:[skills/ahri/w.png]
Consider: An early [items/chain-vest.png] can work wonders.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/zilean.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10 Difficult to kill
Avoid his bombs[skills/zilean/q.png](or try to) + [items/health-potion5.png], your [skills/ahri/r.png] is a shorter cooldown than his [skills/zilean/r.png] so treat him like [champ/anivia.png], kill him, THEN KILL HIM AGAIN!

How to win: Go balls deep against him if he tries to bomb you as you will outtrade him, if he puts [skills/zilean/r.png] on himself, try wait it out if you can afford to rather than healing him for half his hp.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] or [skills/ahri/w.png]
Consider: Going all in when he comes to bomb you, as the bombs are pretty much unavoidable and you should win a trade if you commit to it.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/kayle.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Simple but respect her power

Kayle mid has sadly become a thing, a frustrating thing. She clears crazy fast, she deals crazy damage and she carries crazy hard. You really have to respect her power, She is an incredibly simple champion with 1 "combo", She [skills/kayle/q.png]s you which slows you and amplifies her damage(and its a hard hitting nuke) and then she just [skills/kayle/e.png]s up and autoattacks you for very heavy damage. Her [skills/kayle/r.png] is very anti-fox as it's ideal to soak up burst damage so be sure to try avoid that either by taking her by surprise or by staggering your abilities until shes pops it.

How to win: Before she gets any CDR her [skills/kayle/e.png] has a 16 second cooldown with a 10 second uptime, so whenever she uses it to last hit, be sure to AA and harass her as much as possible when it is down. When she initiates on you with [skills/kayle/q.png], just [skills/ahri/e.png] her face and run away to get out of her range, be sure to give her a [skills/ahri/w.png][skills/ahri/q.png] though.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png], You don't want to get in range of her most of the time.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/jayce.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 5/10

As far as unconventional mid picks go, Jayce seems pretty weak, weird since you expect the unconventional picks to stomp traditional mids, thats the reason they are picked. But Jayce isn't all that scary. Outside of AA's he doesn't have that much to bother you since when he goes into melee form he will suffer the wrath of [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/w.png] and get out traded. His damage IS quite high and his [skills/jayce/q.png] ball will hurt a ton if you let it hit, that being said /

How to win: Dodge [skills/jayce/q.png]

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png], maxing [skills/ahri/w.png] would encourage him to engage in melee form, its better to poke for less and take no damage rather than you both hurting.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/fiora.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10

A very simple and repetitive lane. Fiora will [skills/fiora/q.png] onto you, you will [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/w.png] while running, she will [skills/fiora/q.png] again and get 1 more autoattack before backing off and you will hit her with a [skills/ahri/q.png] and auto. Thats literally it until one of you has the other low enough to ult the other. If Fiora [skills/fiora/r.png]s onto you when you are relatively high health(enough to survive) give her the maokai treatment and [summoners/flash.png][skills/ahri/r.png] and drop her off under the tower.

How to win: [items/seekers-armguard.png] first item.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] or [skills/ahri/w.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/syndra.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] +/- [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] ~6/10 Easy-Hard, Heavily player dependant.
Now that she got buffed, I actually quite like Syndra, and when played well she should be able to kill Ahri quite easily, BUT, thats when "played well", you won't see that much so Syndra is actually very similar to Zyra in the sense you can out maneuver her damage but her difficulty will vary ALOT, very much based on the player you are up against.

How to win: Do not underestimate her damage, she can burst you very easily if she lands her stun combo, so if she uses [skills/syndra/e.png] on an attempt to stun you, thats your queue to engage on her as she will have alot of trouble landing anything outside of her ult on you while you dash around.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/lissandra.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png]

Lissandra can be quite the pain with 2 abilities that stop you from dashing([skills/lissandra/w.png][skills/lissandra/r.png]), later on in the game these will cause major problems for you but in lane her damage is below average(you are soft so its nothing to be scoffed at) and shes soft making her quite a weak laner. All you gotta do is make sure you avoid her [skills/lissandra/q.png] harass by never keeping the minions directly between you and her and watching out for ganks as her [skills/lissandra/e.png][skills/lissandra/w.png] is quite potent. When engaged in 1vs1's with her try to stay out of her [skills/lissandra/w.png] range(its a bit less than autoattack range around her) and keep that range maintained as you can sustained dps beat her due to her range(Yes a mage that Ahri can play the ranged war with). There isn't much you can do to avoid her [skills/lissandra/r.png] but thats just damage you got to man up and take, I'd recommend a [items/haunting-guise.png] to keep you alive to her combos. If she doesn't [skills/lissandra/r.png] you but herself in a fight you can avoid it with your dash as it radiates quite slow, TBH this shouldn't happen since in a 1vs1 fight as Lissandra it doesn't make sense to ult herself over the enemy unless its Zed.

How to win: You have the ranged advantage for once, try maintain that range whether it be for harass or in an engagement. Lissandra's main threat in lane is her ability to aid ganks as she struggles to kill people on her own.
The people that will make you suffer for your crimes
Build Order

Generally this build order should work against the following champs

[items/dorans-ring.png][items/haunting-guise.png][items/sorcerers-shoes.png][items/deathfire-grasp.png][items/zhonyas-hourglass.png][items/rabadons-deathcap.png][items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png][items/void-staff.png]
Basicly getting the [items/haunting-guise.png] earlier to give that extra bit of durability as trading against these champions tends to be a lot more even. See individual match ups for some recommended items to rush. Get [items/seekers-armguard.png] as a first item against AD's!

[champ/annie.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 9/10 Very Difficult
Depending on the Annie player, you can either still rush [items/deathfire-grasp.png] if they are not playing to their full potential, or get an early [items/giants-belt.png]/[items/negatron-cloak.png], Annie trades when she wants to, and when she trades[skills/annie/p.png][skills/annie/q.png][skills/annie/w.png], you don't. If you stay to trade you get stunned and come off a lot worse than her, if you back off, shes zoning you just by walking towards you, Annie can quite easily 100-0 you with her combo[skills/annie/p.png][skills/annie/r.png][skills/annie/q.png][skills/annie/w.png], shes a terror to lane against, she is by no means invincible, but don't fight her when she has [skills/annie/r.png] up, and if you don't kill her in one rotation of your spells you should probably back off as her [skills/annie/q.png] gives her more sustained damage than your [skills/ahri/w.png] does.

How to win: Getting early health[items/giants-belt.png] is the best way to deal with Annie, if she tries to kill you with tibbers, try get your health back up as your best chance of killing her is when she doesn't have her ult ready.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]

[champ/jarvaniv.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 10/10 Massive kill potential on you

Jarman is scary as hell, he has arguably the highest kill potential on you in lane out of every champion, and that's not even with jungler aid. Be wary of his starting items(especially looking out for [items/elixir-of-fortitude.png]). Jman wants to kill you at level 2, his [skills/jarvaniv/e.png][skills/jarvaniv/q.png] is literally half your health just in his gap closer, he will have no problem getting flash out of you if he lands it and you have to be incredibly careful pre-6, once you get your [skills/ahri/r.png] it will feel a bit safer thankfully. Unlike all the other AD Caster champions in lane, Yarvin doesn't just deliver himself into a free [skills/ahri/e.png] like the rest, he generally lands right on top of you making it very difficult to land so try move away from him before you fire it.

How to win: Dodge his [skills/jarvaniv/e.png][skills/jarvaniv/q.png] and punish him with [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png]. Obviously you ain't a super computer and won't be able to dodge every combo, so when he does, if he isn't going all in for a kill don't let him get away jack free! throw everything you have at him and autoattack as much as you can as he backs off. AND BE CAREFUL! This is a scary lane.

[champ/khazix.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 8/10 Very difficult but you have room to massively outplay him

Aliens problematic, his damage is utterly insane especially when you are isolated(you have no allied units within melee range). He isn't undefeatable but he is certainly very hard just because of that damage potential, you need to play really carefully and make sure he can't get close to you. He always initiates with [skills/khazix/e.png], during that jump you have time to [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/w.png] and run away, don't ever stay in melee range. As long as you play carefully you can poke him down with [skills/ahri/q.png] until hes low enough to kill.

How to win: Don't underestimate his damage, ever.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/diana.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 10/10 Lane lost, Natural counter with her kit/base stats
Near impossible match up without aid from your jungler, she has too much damage and durability(without even building for it)

How to win: Always run to your champions right to avoid Diana's [skills/diana/q.png], her whole kit revolves round landing this, and it comes from her right and your left(assuming you are facing each other)

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: Get an [items/abyssal-scepter.png] early into a [items/rylais-crystal-scepter.png] if you are not winning lane, it's your objective to stay alive in this lane.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/katarina.png] Difficulty: [items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 8/10 Very hard, she can outplay you and is difficult to hit.
Shes scary. Her manaless harass and the impressive base damage she whips out allows her to bully you really hard, [skills/ahri/q.png] is nearly useless against her as a good kat will avoid everyone you fire, she doesn't even need to [skills/katarina/e.png] to dodge it as her base MS is already incredibly high. This is going to be a really difficult lane if the Kat is good + she pushes and roams like a boss.

How to win: If she uses [skills/katarina/e.png] on anything, go in for a [skills/ahri/w.png] trade and always save [skills/ahri/e.png] for when she attacks you(its near impossible to open a fight against her with this)

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] or [skills/ahri/w.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/kassadin.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 9/10 Incredibly difficult lane, stronger than you at all stages.
This match up is very volatile, one kill on either champ is a snowball to go(although its easier for Kassadin to snowball off the kill against Ahri than it is vice versa). The key thing to this match up is once he has his ult[skills/kassadin/r.png], you need to be very quick with [skills/ahri/e.png] to catch him, I mean, you fire this as soon as he starts his animation to teleport as its fairly predictable where he will go, if you catch him punish him with [skills/ahri/w.png][skills/ahri/q.png] and back off but be wary, a good Kassadin will learn and make his [skills/kassadin/r.png] alot less predictable. If you didn't gain any noticable advantage, post 6 this lane becomes very hard due to your soft fluffy hide being quite eay to bully around as Kassadin, he is also a better roamer than you(and thats saying alot)

How to win: Catch him with [skills/ahri/e.png] after he [skills/kassadin/r.png]s onto you for harass, it takes practice but eventually it becomes quite easy to predict where he will land.

What to max:[skills/ahri/w.png]

[champ/akali.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 9/10 Lane lost, Natural counter to you with her [skills/akali/r.png]
3 Flashes to escape? no problem, sideboob here has 3 longer ranged higher damage flashes[skills/akali/r.png] to catch you, this is not a matchup you should do, dodge the game or feed(Assuming the Akali player is good). If Akali isn't good, well it shouldn't be too hard, Akali's are either really bad or really good, you don't get an inbetween. Don't feed her and outscale her as her teamfight presence is null, she dies to passive AoE and mild breezes of cold air.

How to win: Assuming you are able to trade with her a [items/vision-ward.png] in the middle of your lane is great for countering her [skills/akali/w.png], this isn't really an option, you need one else she will zone you just by putting the shroud near you. Also be prepared to counter her jumping on you with [skills/akali/r.png] with an instant [skills/ahri/e.png] to the face, if u you hid her mid jump you will have time to [skills/ahri/q.png][skills/ahri/w.png], if not just run back with [skills/ahri/w.png].

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] or [skills/ahri/w.png]

Galio himself isn't actually that bad, just dodge his [skills/galio/q.png] for the most part, he shouldn't be able to kill you BUT, his ultimate[skills/galio/r.png] is a terror, it pretty much is a free kill on you when he has the jungler on his side, max [skills/ahri/q.png] first and abuse the true damage on his ridiculous MR and counter push the lane, [items/health-potion5.png] to deal with any [skills/galio/q.png][skills/galio/e.png]s you collect and [items/sight-ward2.png] should keep you safe in lane, do what you can to roam bot and pick up the gold there instead.

How to win: Dodge [skills/galio/q.png] and don't be afraid to do damage to him, he may have alot of MR but that does not make him invincible, an early [items/chalice-of-harmony.png] followed by many [skills/ahri/q.png]s can take the beast down.

[champ/leblanc.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 9/10 Scary, Huge damage/Silence for you, but she is soft.
LeBlanc should probably be at both ends of the spectrum, some LeBlanc's are REALLY bad, they will be easy to kill and will fall off at 15minutes. But some LeBlanc's are really good and will make your life a living hell, run an MR heavy rune page, get an early [items/negatron-cloak.png] and/or [items/null-magic-mantle.png](You don't need to upgrade this), Don't let LeBlanc force you into only building defence. [items/health-potion5.png][items/health-potion5.png][items/health-potion5.png] will serve you well, engage on her if she uses [skills/leblanc/w.png] on anything, try to avoid her chains[skills/leblanc/e.png](don't be afraid to flash them if they hit you). by level 9 one of you will be one shotting the other, and in an equal skill set up, LeBlanc wins this match up(unless they are both equally UNskilled, LeBlanc is a harsh champion to people who suck at her).

IMPORTANT: LeBlanc can get the Kassadin treatment, try catch her with [skills/ahri/e.png] when she [skills/leblanc/w.png]s to you for a very favourable trade but you have to be very quick as a fast LeBlanc is incredibly hard to land this on when she harasses. If you catch her with this post 6, engage on her for the kill.

How to win: Don't stay in lane with less than 70% health, thats kill health for LeBlanc, try push as hard as you can and spend as little time near her in lane unless you are winning.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png] to push the lane in fear of her, or [skills/ahri/w.png] if you are willing to try fight her, its down to the LeBlanc player and how aggressive she is(the more aggressive the more you have to trade, ie [skills/ahri/w.png])

[champ/malphite.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 7/10 RockHard
He is too damn tough, you probably won't kill him, max [skills/ahri/q.png] to abuse the true damage against him and the same as [champ/galio.png], [items/sight-ward2.png] as Malphites [skills/malphite/r.png] teamed up with any jungler in the game is a dead Ahri.

How to win: Farm and roam really, can't kill this guy.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]

[champ/malzahar.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Difficult, reliant on killing him at the perfect moments
As weak a champion this guy is, his 1vs1 potential against other mages is scary, if you don't kill him with your initial combo, he will at the very least, kill you along with him or just straight up kill you with his [skills/malzahar/r.png] damage. stay away from minions with his DoT [skills/malzahar/e.png] on them and max [skills/ahri/q.png] first to counter push the wave. I recommend buying [items/null-magic-mantle.png] and an [items/elixir-of-fortitude.png](use this as a mini heal during the fight should he get his [skills/malzahar/r.png] off on you, you should survive the ult in time to use it for that extra health)

How to win: Let him use [skills/malzahar/e.png] or [skills/malzahar/q.png] on minions(prefrebly both) and engage with speed, the element of surprise is vital for you to either avoid [skills/malzahar/r.png] or only take damage from it, as he won't have time to combo up his spells. Also kill his voidlings, they are worth gold and it will demoralize him to see them die!

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/swain.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/the-bloodthirster.png] 10/10 Lane lost without junglers aid
Dodge, I'm not even kidding, this is the hardest counter to Ahri. A good swain will annihilate you and then some. Do everything you can to dodge his AoE root[skills/swain/w.png], if he catches you he is then going to [skills/swain/e.png][skills/swain/q.png] you from his minions and walk away, once he gets his ult [skills/swain/r.png] every time he catches you with his [skills/swain/w.png] he will go for a kill, dodge his [skills/swain/w.png] with [skills/ahri/r.png] if you have too as you will die if you don't.

The only time you can get an advantage on him is if you land pretty much every [skills/ahri/q.png](max this) early game, and even then, an Ahri with 2 kills up on Swain will still lose a post 6 duel. Strongly recommend you run MS Quints against this guy.

Things to do.
  • Dodge the game.
  • Dodge the root [skills/swain/w.png] as much as possible
  • Don't focus too much into defence, a [items/negatron-cloak.png] won't make a difference, he doesn't give a damn about your MR, hes going to kill you, if you build too much defence you won't have the damage to fight him when your jungler comes after your constant pleas for help and he will quite easily 2vs1 you.
  • Just dodge the game seriously, its what I do.

How to win: Try poking him down with [skills/ahri/q.png] so that he heals up with [skills/swain/r.png], once he turns it off that is your chance to kill him, and your only chance as hes not much tougher than a normal mage without crowform, also look at his mana, hes very mana hungry and if he has 1/3 or less you should be able to engage on him... should.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]

[champ/veigar.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10 Can be scary
Veigar himself won't be too hard for Ahri until he gets some AP, infact the match up is in your favour except for one thing, Veigars [skills/veigar/e.png] is such a strong ganking tool on someone like Ahri pre and post 6, its worth being scared of, play like a bitch if you dont have any wards up. An early [items/null-magic-mantle.png] should be enough for you to survive his burst and start killing him but this lane is very unstable, 1 kill either way and its a snowball, a violent one. [items/quicksilver-sash.png] Won't help you late game, Veigar won't need to [skills/veigar/e.png] you to kill you at that point, I recommend getting [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png] against him.

Take note that you cannot [skills/ahri/r.png] through veigar's [skills/veigar/e.png] without getting stunned

How to win: In lane its not hard atall, late game though, keep your distance from Veigar and thats all there really is to it.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
Consider: [items/mercurys-treads.png] if you feel Veigars stun is what is screwing you.
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/viktor.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 7/10 Hard
Viktor is basicly [champ/annie.png], they are the same champion pretty much except viktors CC for you is a bit weaker thus making him slightly easier than Annie, hes still gonna trade with you like a baus and be obnoxious about it, his ult is Tibbers. Max [skills/ahri/q.png], you don't want to be close to this guy.

How to win: Don't let him get close to you during lane as he will outtrade you, treat him like Annie, an early [items/giants-belt.png] should keep you alive, Viktor is alot softer than Annie so duels shouldn't be too bad.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/vladimir.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 8/10 Hard
There are 2 kinds of edward players, the ones that don't know their power midlane and will play like that, they are easy, won't cause you any trouble. Then there is the Edwards that know how well they trade with Ahri, Edward can zone you to the fountain with his [skills/vladimir/q.png] harass while he shrugs off your feeble attempts to hurt him with your fragile blue bar, Hes a real terror to play against, Request aid against him as he will most likely be pushing. Once he gets a hextech he will be chunking you for a quarter your hp every [skills/vladimir/q.png]. Just hope you don't play against one of those manly Edwards as they are quite rare thankfully.

How to win: Don't let him [skills/vladimir/q.png] you for free, punish him hard with as much [skills/ahri/w.png] and AA's as possible, fight often if you want to win, you can't let him heal up for free so drink those pots and fight more!

What to max:[skills/ahri/w.png]

[champ/sion.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 8/10 Very hard, huge lane bully+roamer
You can't do much to him, hes Sion, good thing no one plays him anymore. Do what you can to pop his [skills/sion/w.png] shield

How to win:Run away, try [skills/ahri/e.png][skills/ahri/q.png] his shield off when he runs at you, but generally without jungle aid he won't die, hes very tough.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/chogath.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 8/10 Difficult, you can't kill him and if he catches you it will hurt
Don't even bother trying to harass him, he won't feel it atall, you cannot touch this dinosaur, you won't get close to killing him, if you do, he is doing something wrong BUT he will have alot of difficulty hitting you with his [skills/chogath/q.png] just because its predictable, This lane is 100% decided by your jungler, without your junglers utmost attention, Dinosaur will outfarm you hard and make your life difficult, junglers focus can allow you to kill him, and once you start killing him you can start doing it alone with a lead on him, if your jungler doesnt do all he can to help, just try gank other lanes as often as possible.

How to win: Dodge [skills/chogath/q.png] and farm as hard as you can, you outscale him, as do many mages, Cho mid cannot fufil the role of AP carry, late game he either builds like a normal Cho and their team lacks the strong magic damage source, or he builds a much stronger AP build and gets shredded by your AD carry.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------

[champ/zed.png] Difficulty:[items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png][items/bf-sword.png] 6/10

Zed is kind of scary, as one of the AD mids he has an annoying amount of poke with [skills/zed/q.png], especially since it costs energy he can just spam it forever so your main job is dodging harass. This lane should be played passively as possible unless Zed does something stupid and gives away a kill as he generally will beat you in duels. If you don't have [skills/ahri/r.png] ready and he has [skills/zed/r.png] he will kill you quite effortlessly so extra care should be taken when it's on cooldown. You shouldn't hesitate to use your ult to escape his ult! and although it is more difficult due to the faster travel time, Zeds ult can get the Maokai treatment with a quick [skills/ahri/r.png][summoners/flash.png] into tower range when he is midcast to drop him in a place he probably doesn't want to be. If the Zed doesn't mess up this lane should be won by winning your other lanes rather than trying to dominate him.

How to win: Wait for him to use his energy, Zed is very energy hungry so if he uses his energy to clear a wave you have a chance to engage on him.
Consider: Rushing a [items/seekers-armguard.png] into [items/haunting-guise.png] for durability.

What to max:[skills/ahri/q.png]
-------------------------------------------------------
Junglers to take care against
Some junglers are more gank centric or have really good synergy with their lanes, especially midlane against Ahri where she is a very easy gank pre-6.

[champ/alistar.png]
It does not matter who your lane opponent is, Alistar is going to gank you at level 2 unless you play carefully, So be sure to play incredibly safe not just at level 2, but at all times, should Alistar get you from behind(hue) its almost certainly a kill, even if you have your ult against anyone that can hard CC you. Luckily he can barely jungle now, so you shouldn't see him to often.
--------------------------------------------
[champ/jarvaniv.png][champ/leesin.png][champ/shyvana.png]
These 3 MIGHT gank you at level 2, Yes I know, Shyvana right? but be wary, these 3 junglers level 2 damage is very spikey, easily half your health, so if you let them get close you will probably die, or atleast blow flash.
--------------------------------------------
[champ/shaco.png]
He is probably going to gank you, that's almost certain as you pre-6 are his wetdream, slow soft mage, nomnomnom. Play extra careful for atleast the first 5 levels, especially if against a champ with reliable hard CC([champ/twistedfate.png][champ/ryze.png])
--------------------------------------------
[champ/malphite.png]
Pre-6 this rock won't ever bother you, but post 6, his ult [skills/malphite/r.png] is almost certainly a kill, so if you spot him have your finger ready on flash to avoid it else, you ded fox :(
--------------------------------------------
[champ/maokai.png]
If this tree is on the other team and you are lane against someone with reliable CC[champ/twistedfate.png][champ/ryze.png], expect to be camped from level 2 onwards. A neat trick to pull of on Maokai is to wait for him to [skills/maokai/w.png] and then immediatly [summoners/flash.png][skills/ahri/r.png] to your tower and [skills/ahri/e.png] him under tower range.
Here is an example against an AP Maokai.

--------------------------------------------
[champ/skarner.png]
Pre-6 unless you are overextending skarner has very little chance of getting close to you, but once he has his ultimate, DON'T leave your your [skills/ahri/r.png] to the last second to get away from him if hes getting close, too often will he grab you anyway after your dash/flash.
--------------------------------------------
[champ/pantheon.png]
His ganks regardless of level are scary due to his ranged stun but your [skills/ahri/e.png] is a longer range that it, if he gets close enough to stun, you are gonna die :(
--------------------------------------------
[champ/xinzhao.png]
Take extreme care for the pre-6 levels, Xin can come from behind your lane and destroy you on his own, even with flash on your side he is still likely to get his 3rd hit off and knock you up, a true terror of a jungler.
--------------------------------------------
[champ/rammus.png]
You know exactly why to be careful of this guy.
Patches concerning Ahri
Patch 3.04 18th March

  • Seeker's Armguard [items/seekers-armguard.png]
  • Ability Power reduced to 20 from 25

:(

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patch 3.02 14th Febuary

  • Athene's Unholy Grail [items/athenes-unholy-grail.png]
  • Cooldown reduction increased to 20% from 15%

Just means Athene's will now always be the choice for CDR over [items/morellonomicon.png], doesn't change my stance on it though.

  • Deathfire Grasp [items/deathfire-grasp.png]
  • Combine cost reduced to 680 gold from 880 (total cost reduced to 3100 from 3300)
  • Cooldown reduction reduced to 10% from 15%

This actually works out as a buff to be honest!, 5% difference isn't the most noticable of changes, but getting 200G cheaper is a very nice change in helping getting the DFG asap.

  • Liandry's Torment [items/liandrys-torment.png]
  • Ability power reduced to 50 from 60
  • Damage per second increased to 2% from 1.66%
  • Damage-over-time and multi-target spells no longer have reduced effect
  • Fixed damage effect not being properly reapplied on targets that already have it

This is a huge buff to the item, not only did the proc get considerably stronger which more than cancels out losing the 10 AP, but multitarget spells apply the full duration debuff, really good change making the item a lot less niche for certain champions.

  • Rabadon's Deathcap [items/rabadons-deathcap.png]
  • Combine cost increased to 840 gold from 740 (total cost increased to 3300 gold from 3200)
  • Ability power bonus increased to 30% from 25%

Yay! 100G for an extra 5% AP, you only need 100 AP for this to be worth it so its a great change and will really help with endgame with 6 item builds.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------------

Patch 3.01 1st Febuary

  • Annie
[champ/annie.png] has received a visual upgrade!

Shit, now people will play her more often :(

  • Seeker's Armguard (New Item) [items/seekers-armguard.png]
  • Recipe: Cloth Armor + Cloth Armor + Amplifying Tome + 125 gold = 1160 gold
  • +30 armor
  • +25 ability power
  • Unique passive: Kills grant 0.5 bonus armor and ability power. This bonus stacks up to 30 times.

Brilliant item that will REALLY help out with laning vs AD's, this with the nerfs to [items/the-black-cleaver.png][items/the-bloodthirster.png] should really relieve the pressure they apply.

  • Zhonya's Hourglass [items/zhonyas-hourglass.png]
  • Recipe changed: Seeker's Armguard + Needlessly Large Rod + 650 gold = 3410 gold (from 3100)
  • Ability Power increased to 120 from 100

This is both good and bad, good that it now builds out of a much more desirable item than a chain vest, and that it gained 20 AP which will help late game builds, but bad that it gained a hefty chunk of gold on its cost. End result though is it is a stronger and better item overall.

  • Deathfire Grasp [items/deathfire-grasp.png]
  • Recipe changed: Fiendish Codex + Needlessly Large Rod + 880 gold = 3300 gold (from 3000)
  • Ability power increased to 120 from 100

Again, good and bad. Bad being it got 300g more expensive, but you do get your 300g's worth as it gains 20 AP, this + the hourglass change nets you a nice 40AP bonus pre-deathcap for later game builds but the price changes on them will slow you down a fair bit. In addition now that it builds out of a [items/fiendish-codex.png] that smoothens out the building of this item and allows you to get easy/cheap CDR early game.

Final Comments
Take everything I say with a grain of salt, Don't follow each and every build to the letter, adapt, your opponent and how hard you get camped by a jungler changes things alot! I may say Swain is a terror to lane against, but that doesn't mean hes unbeatable, thers alot of bad Swains that don't know how to build. Also Zyra is easy to lane against, doesn't mean its going to be an easy lane for you!

TLDR: If against [champ/swain.png], Dodge.

Feel free to ask any questions, I'll answer them pretty quickly.

really nice guide, I had no idea ahri had this much burst, saw xPeke playing her recently and had to come and see this guide I will buy her due to her burst, mobility with the ult and the extreme sexyness :3

Hi and thanks for this awesome guide for ahri ! I have been using it since last week and everything you say is true and facts. I have just beaten a kha'zix 3/0 in lane early and 2/0 a lb. All guides should be like yours. But I have one suggestion, I haven't seen the matchup ahri vs Lissandra in your guide (the new champ), what do you think about it ? Thanks again for this brillant guide !

    1) Doesnt make any sense.
    2) No one buys morellos for the healing debuff, its bought primarily as a cheap efficient source of CDR/Ap.
3)Why would you have to start faerie against AD casters? why is tear a must against them? that doesn't make sense it makes you softer than buying any other items.
  • scree151
1)unholy grail isnt that bad,u can mana sustain late game if ur team falls behind and if u re ahead u can sell it for something better
2)morellonomicon isnt an option for cheap buyers,it s mostly bought for the heal debuff vs full ad teams
3)u rly havent tried tear on ahri, not saying it s op item, but on s3 if ur matchup is a kha zix or zed who (as always) starts with pots+red elixir u have no chance in lane except if u start faerie charm+pots, leading to tear, and then alter the usual build a bit, rushing roa instead of dfg,and there s no alternate starting anymore, because they limited maximum pots to 5 :P

Ive never really went for the health rush against a burst team like that, the most health I go is the Liandrys/Rylais combo(which I usually go against assassin teams) but I find hourglass fufils the role of all those health items, if a teamfight starts you jump in and literally through yourself at them and then hourglass. Some of them may have wasted their abilities on you already and the ones that havent will not wait around for hourglass to end and will chose another target.

Hi Barph, Ahri was the first champion I ever played (and the reason why I joined LoL) and I thought I already knew everything about her, but your guide has made me an amazing Ahri player :D I've just started playing ranked games and I'm currently at Silver 3, and Assassins are insanely popular. I usually face an Akali top, Zed mid and Khazix jungle, and I have to build defensively against them and I feel that I never have a chance to buy raw damage. Have you ever tried a full HP/AP build on Ahri (RoA, Guise, Rylais) and would you think it's viable rather than the DFG rush for Assassins? When I rush DFG each assassin tends to have already bought something to outlast my full DFG combo. I also try this build when I'm vs a really tanky team, but then again I'm not 100% sure if it's worth it D:

Btw, what do you recommend i should max vs Kha'zix?I maxes W until now to punish him more the moment he starts jumping on me and until now i pretty much exchange kills alot.
