Introduction
Hi, and welcome to my first guide on this site. I got extremely excited when I first saw Kha'Zix's teaser, especially since I love playing assassins (
<3). Anyway, Kha'Zix has a kit that is geared towards stealth, surprise, and burst damage. I wanted to bring out the raw damage potential he has as best as I could, while still retaining viability and not going completely glass cannon. I really hope you enjoy my guide, and keep on evolving.
Masteries
Kha'Zix is an assassin, and as such he isn't as durable as other junglers. To make up for this, I go with a 9/21/0 mastery setup to get the most out of his attributes.![[http://imageshack.us/a/img39/9742/zixmastery1.jpg]](http://imageshack.us/a/img39/9742/zixmastery1.jpg)
You can alternatively run the 21/9/0 setup, but keep in mind that it's hard to do sustained damage if you're half health for most of early game:
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img40/6794/zixmasterypage2.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img40/6794/zixmasterypage2.png)
Runes
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img208/2865/zixrune1.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img208/2865/zixrune1.png)
Runes Shown:
- 9 Greater Mark of Alacrity (Attack Speed)
- 9 Greater Seal of Resilience (Armor)
- 9 Greater Glyph of Shielding (MR/lvl)
- 3 Greater Quintessence of Strength (Attack Damage)
AS marks allow you to clear jungles even faster, as well as do more dps in ganks, duels, and teamfights. The armor seals are for sustain in the jungle, without them you will have a hard time. The MR/lvl glyphs are for increased MR as the game goes on. And the AD quints are for some extra damage in and out of the jungle.
Alternatives to above runes:
- 9/6 Greater Mark of Desolation (Armor Pen)
- 9/3 Greater Mark of Strength (Attack Damage)
- 9 Greater Glyph of Alacrity (Attack Speed)
- 3 Greater Quintessence of Desolation (Armor Pen)
- 3 Greater Quintessence of Alacrity (Attack Speed)
- 3 Greater Quintessence of Swiftness (Movement Speed)
If you don't like AS marks, going either full ArP/AD or an ArP-AD mix can work to varying degrees. If you choose this option, I would recommend 6-ArP/3-AD mix for the best effect. Attack speed glyphs can work if you still want more AS. MS quints for if you want to run around the map like a maniac (add MS masteries, and mobility boots for a fun time ^.^).
Summoner Spells
![summoners/smite.png [summoners/smite.png]](guide/summoners/smite.png)
![summoners/exhaust.png [summoners/exhaust.png]](guide/summoners/exhaust.png)
Explanation:
You take smite because you don't jungle without it. Ever.
You take exhaust because you already have a long distance gap closer with
![skills/khazix/e.png [skills/khazix/e.png]](guide/skills/khazix/e.png)
Not necessary, but can be used instead of leap if you want that extra gap closer.
Good for if you want some extra damage on that gank, or if your bot lane has an exhaust already and you don't feel the need for 2.
If you want to chase super hard, or if you feel that you just can't close the gap between you and the enemy (hello
and
?). Don't recommend, but could possibly work. The MS with this and your ultimate is suuuuuper funny to see.
Skills
Passive: Unseen Threat When Kha'Zix is not visible to the enemy team, he gains Unseen Threat, causing his next basic attack against an enemy champion to deal bonus magic damage and slow.
Explanation:
Proper use of this passive is detrimental to your damage output and survival. Make sure to look out for the indicator that your passive is active, and remember that going into brush will re-enable it. You want that extra damage and slow as much as possible, especially when ganking.
Q: Taste Their FearDeal physical damage to a single target. Damage against isolated targets is significantly increased. Kha'Zix passively marks enemies that are isolated from nearby allies.
Evolving claws increases damage to isolated targets even further. Kha'Zix also gains increased range on both Taste Their Fear and his basic attack.
Explanation:
This skill does heavy single target damage. Try and abuse the isolation bonus as much as possible (top lane anyone?) and make sure to look for the marks that indicate isolation. Use this to melt the enemy ADC at any possible chance.
W: Void SpikeKha'Zix fires spikes that explode on contact, dealing physical damage to all nearby enemies. Kha'Zix is healed if he is within the explosion radius.
Evolving spike racks causes Void Spike to fire three projectiles in a cone. Spikes will also apply Unseen Threat to all enemies caught within the area of effect.
Explanation:
My favorite skill in his kit. This skill does some good damage, is AoE, and has a (situational) heal. The evolution makes this even better, but more on that later.
E: LeapKha'Zix leaps to an area, dealing physical damage to enemies in the area he lands.
Evolving wings increases Leap's range dramatically and causes a kill or assists to refresh the cooldown of Leap.
Explanation:
Good utility spell. The damage is lackluster, so I keep as a one point wonder (lvl-4) until late game. The range is rediculous, and I prefer to use it as a de-initiate because I normally use my ultimate to initiate with. Remember to use this to hop over walls and speed up jungle time (careful of mana cost however).
R: Void AssaultEach rank of Void Assault allows Kha'Zix to evolve one of his active abilities, granting it an additional effect. Upon activation, Kha'Zix enters stealth and gains Unseen Threat, increasing Movement Speed. Kha'zix can cast Void Assault again for a short time after activation.
Evolving active camouflage allows Kha'Zix to cast Void Assault three times over the course of its duration and reduces any damage he sustains while in stealth.
Explanation:
Ah, the ultimate. What makes Kha'Zix, Khar'Zix. This is a utility spell, but doesn't matter since the damage by your other skills is more than enough. The passive is your evolutions of course, and the active camo + MS buff is a good initiator on ganks and otherwise. Try to use your second ultimate use when they start to run, or to re-enable your passive for more damage and slow.
Skill/Evolution Order
There are a couple different skill orders to choose from, and then you can add evolutions into the mix to make even more possiblities. Riot meant what they said about "Kill. Consume. Adapt."
To keep clutter free, I'll do normal skill paths first, then evolution down below.
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img337/4219/skillorder1.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img337/4219/skillorder1.png)
->
->
-> ![skills/khazix/e.png [skills/khazix/e.png]](guide/skills/khazix/e.png)
This is my preferred path. I try and level both Taste Their Fear and Void Spike equally, since both of them deal good damage at skill level 3. I prioritize leap last for it has less damage, and is more useful for the utility.
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img521/9115/skillorder2.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img521/9115/skillorder2.png)
->
->
-> ![skills/khazix/e.png [skills/khazix/e.png]](guide/skills/khazix/e.png)
Lots more AoE damage due to the maxing of Void Spike. Taste Their Fear comes second due to damage, and Leap last for utility.
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img89/1681/skillorder3.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img89/1681/skillorder3.png)
->
->
-> ![skills/khazix/w.png [skills/khazix/w.png]](guide/skills/khazix/w.png)
Max Taste Their Fear first for raw damage, then Leap second for increased utility, chasing/escaping and gank potential. The damage isn't so bad if you level it up earlier also.
Evolutionary Paths
What to evolve and when is very important, and should be considered carefully. The point of Kha'Zix is to adapt. So do just that and evolve based on what you need. That being said, there are some paths that you should attempt to follow more than others.
->
-> ![skills/khazix/e.png [skills/khazix/e.png]](guide/skills/khazix/e.png)
This is the path I've been following lately. Evolving Void Spike first gives me more sustain in jungle, faster clearing times, and more teamfight potential. You also heavily reduce your chance to miss your spike, and you also can proc Unseen Predator from range. Next comes Taste Their Fear for single target shredding, and finally leap for enhanced jump range and CD reset. Useful for getting in and out.
->
-> ![skills/khazix/e.png [skills/khazix/e.png]](guide/skills/khazix/e.png)
I use this for when I'm going to be ganking very heavily. The evolution on Taste Their Fear allows for a lot more single target damage, and makes it very hard for that carry to stay alive. Getting Void Spike at level 11 allows for it to be useful for when it's needed, which is when teamfights start.
->
/ ![skills/khazix/w.png [skills/khazix/w.png]](guide/skills/khazix/w.png)
This is for if you want to play flyingmantiscricketman, and like jumping out of brush scaring the Sh*it out of people. Your jump range becomes insane, and you now can use it for initiating rather than Void Assault. If you want to do this, I suggest you follow the 3rd skill order to have more damage.
Why U No Pick
?
?There is a reason for that, and that is that there is no reason to evolve it except for very situational games. One thing is for certain, you should NEVER evolve this before lvl 16. Let's take a look at the benefits you get from evolving this:
- 1 more ability use within 10 second period
- Damage reduction
- Makes you look red, which gets you all the ladies.
The extra ability use is lackluster, unless you REALLY need to get somewhere quick. But you have other gap closers to use, and don't necessarily need it.
The damage reduction is the real key element here. It can save your ass if you're running away and don't want to excape with that little bit of health before you leap over dragon wall. Or if you're planning on tower diving and need to tank some hits. Either way, you aren't doing as much damage as you could by evolving another skill, thus your doing less work as an assassin.
Worst comes to worst, just be pro and score a penta. Get your extra evolution point and drop it in there.
REMEMBER: Evolutions are situational, and should be treated as such. It is up to you to decide what you need and when, also keep in mind that just because you max something doesn't mean you need to evolve it first as well.

- Against heavy AD.

You should have all of these within a decent amount of time. Phage for slow + health, sheen for damage + mana.

+![items/guardian-angel.png [items/guardian-angel.png]](guide/items/guardian-angel.png)
Should be rounding out your build now with these two items. Resistances OP.
Alternatives
replace this with Black Cleaver if you wish.
replace this with one of your 2 defensive items, preferably GA.
replace this with Trinity if you want more health, don't care about AS or Sheen, and/or want to build a different item path.Explanation
I buy the
for the Tenacity. When it comes to assassins, CC will make you get killed more than get kills. The magic resistance is also good since we don't get MR until later in our build.The
was an item that I thought would be good, but was even better once i finally tried it. The real killer behind this is the sheen. Sheen in conjunction with Kha'Zix's Q does A LOT of damage. Chaining skills to proc this as much as possible only adds to the dps. The additional AS and Slow+Health from zeal and phage only add to the benefits.The
is mainly for the sustain, but also the sheer damage it provides. It fits Kha'Zix well, and I like to buy it when I can. I've recently found myself pushing this back in the build in favor for my defensive items however.The
was for the AS, which if you haven't guessed by now is one of the stats I like most on Kha'Zix. The armor reduction is good as well, and it allows not only you buy your teammates to do more damage to the enemy. I rarely switch this with a LW for the ADC usually picks that up, and I feel this works best to compensate for that.The
for the MR, and AD. Pretty much all there is to it. It has saved my life multiple times.The
is for the usual reasons. Good resistances, and another chance at life. Allowing me to do things i wouldn't have been able to previously due to fear of death. Reviving then popping ulti then leaping out is always rewarding as well.
Jungling
![[http://imageshack.us/a/img513/9982/junglemap.png]](http://imageshack.us/a/img513/9982/junglemap.png)
Kha'Zix needs blue buff at start, so you want to follow the standard blue buff route.
Grab your cloth 5 if you want to play safe, or boots 3 if you can get a solid leash, then go to your blue buff. Have your team leash and help you damage, then smite once it is beneath 450 hp.
Tip: Try to remember how much damage smite does at different levels, if you need scroll over the icon and check the current damage.
After you grab blue, clear wolves and hit level 2. put a point in void spike then move on to wraiths. After you clear wraiths, go do golems, red, and go back to wraiths. At this time you should be level 4 with a point in Leap, and need to make a decision.
If you are good on health/have pots left over, then look at your lanes. If any enemies are pushing hard, go gank if you feel the time and effort is worth it. If not, or you don't think you will survive, then go back to base. Remember, if you started cloth then you will be slower than normal, and might not be successful. Conversely, if you started boots then you might not have enough health to survive. Make a good decision.
Regardless of what you do, after you go back to base for the first time, grab whatever you need to begin your core items, and go rinse and repeat. For more information on ganking, look at the secton below.
Ganking/Combo
When ganking, you normally want to use the following:Pre-6, use
then Auto-Attack to proc
, then follow up with
while using
as much as possible. Dart into brush to re-enable
and proc it again.After-6, use
from brush and close gap. Open with
, then
and keep chaining those two skills. Use your second use of
once they run or before 10 seconds are up to re-enable
, and keep attacking (use brush also). If enemy has an ability to run away, use
to stay on them. Rinse and repeat.You have the highest possibility of scoring a kill or assist on top lane, due to a higher chance of getting the isolation bonus on
. Abuse this constantly.Brush ganks are especially good for Kha'Zix, so try and do these whenever possible. When ganking bot, communicate as much as possible to avoid being sighted. If the enemy is pushing however, go for a gank regardless if you're seen or not.
You are relatively squishy early game. So ganks can turn deadly for you if done incorrectly. Know your limits, and you'll do fine.
Early Game
You should be jungling, ganking, and trying to build up your items. If possible, try and get a few kills here and there to keep yourself healthy in gold, and staying ahead of the enemy jungler. You should be giving away blue buff to your mid lane, and keeping wards on the enemy blue looking for a kill/buff steal opportunity. If your mid is manaless/doesn't need blue then take it for yourself, it will make you even more deadly.Use your first evolution point wisely, and take care of what your team and enemy are capable of. Choose accordingly. If you are falling behind, cut down on ganks and focus on catching up. Get solo xp from watching lanes, and keep defensive wards to protect from getting counter-jungled.
Mid Game
By this time you should have your core items, and are starting to do some real damage. Around this time you should gank more and more, keeping the enemy team scared at all times. The best part about jungling is the fear you instill, and it is one of your biggest assets.When teamfights start, you want to do what an assassin does: prey on the weak. Take out the yummy ADC, then run away, come back in for the AP carry and finish the rest. If you evolved void spike by this time, you should have some solid teamfight potential so use it to your advantage.
Late Game
THE BEAST HAS COMETH.Seriously though, you should be shredding by now. Your burst and sustained damage should be heavy, and you probably will have some resistances (if you're smart). Keep assassinating like you did mid game, and be involved even more in teamfights. Don't forget your place however, let the other roles do their job, you do yours.
Fun fact: At this point you can 2 hit teemo. Nomnomnom.
Video
In this video, I show some of the strength that Kha'Zix possesses. I dove into a sure death situation, got a kill, and escaped with my life as well as the enemy Kha'Zix's. Notice that I go into brush as much as possible, re-enabling my passive and allowing me to use the effect of evolved void spikes to slow my pursuers and dealing more damage. As you see, I escape most of their team, then widdle down Nocturn's health until he is forced to go back. The kill on Kha'Zix was due to the following: Lack of sight = moment of surprise & slow/extra damage from passive. Leap -> Sheen Proc -> Taste Their Fear -> Dead.
Final Comments
Thanks for giving this guide(?) a look. I'm really excited about this champion since i love assasins, and have been having a blast on PBE. Hopefully school will stop kicking my ass so i'll have time to play him when he goes live, but more on that later. Happy hunting.
