Why read a guide if you don't know if it really works or not ?
( The 2 Ranked games were in the ELO of 1800s, this proves that my guide works in high ELO games. )
A ranked game played after the patch after Wukong's release. Carried :D
IntroductionWukong is a tanky DPS champion that has the ability to stealth. That alone puts him in a league of his own,in the aspect of tanky DPS. It takes a while to get used to him and to know what his capable of. But, most importantly knowing what NOT to do is what sets apart a good Wukong and a bad one. I will explain in detail later on in the guide .
For runes I go with:
9 Armour Penetration marks (Best marks for any DPS character)
9 Flat Armor (After testing these out more, I've come to the conclusion that Flat Armor seals are best)
8 Flat MR Glyphs (Great for early game sustainability)
1 attack dmg Glyph (So it shows +7 damage instead of +6) -Optional-
3 Flat attack dmg Quints ( I chose these over Armor Pen quints because with Wukong's Q, +10 Armor pen isn't rly needed untill late game, But since this is mid-late game build, you wont have to worry about your DPS.)
: I pick ignite because usually your E+Q combo isn't enough to finish someone
off, so ignite ensures those kills. Also works well with ult.
: Ahh the good ol' flash, this spell can be used in various ways with Wukong.
You can flash + e to close off MASSIVE distance then ult for surprise kills.
You can also ensure a safe getaway if your W ever fails you.
Passive: Stone Skin
Wukong's armor and magic resistance are increased for each nearby enemy champion.
This passive isn't that effective in lane compared to other passives, but in team fights it really contributes a lot to your tanky-ness.
Q: Crushing Blow
Wukong swings his mighty staff with incredible speed, crushing his opponent. This attack deals additional physical damage and reduces the enemy's Armor for a short duration.
A great ability that can shred % armor off enemy champions. Early game this ability is used for last hitting and a quick harrass combo with your auto attack.(When you auto attack and click Q right after it resets the time for that attack. Same as trundles bite) After you get your sheen or trinity this ability hits like a TRUCK! Otherwise keep it at lvl 1 or 2 for the purpose mentioned above. (NOTE: The auto attack and instant Q trick works amazingly for taking down towers!)
Wukong becomes stealthed for 1.5 seconds. An uncontrollable decoy is left behind that will deal magic damage to enemies near it after 1.5 seconds.
A great spell for deception when used with a tricky mind. This spell is mainly used for its decoy clone rather than the damage, as the damage is insignificant. You can pull off many tricks with this spell, such as in a teamfight you charge in with your e and quickly press w to escape, if you see that they've burned a lot of their abilities on your clone, CHARGE right back in with E again or flash and ulty them. (Great intiation when done right.) Escaping is what this spell is intended to do in essence, some cool tricks i've used is hold S untill they attack me then walk 2 steps and hold S again then when they find out, press W or repeat this combo to truly deceive your enemy. (Since most people know about phreak's trick this would cause them to have to really guess.) "A clone within a clone within a clone" :O INCEPTION!!!! DUN DUN DUN!
E: Nimbus Strike
Wukong dashes toward a target enemy and sends out images to attack up to 2 additional enemies near his target, dealing physical damage to each enemy struck.
This is the foundation spell for all combos that Wukong uses. A great spell with low CD, low mana cost, good damage and great range. This can either be used to close the gap between you and your enemy or can be used to escape by using this on a enemy minion. Also, take note that E has a pretty decent radius so you can hit a minion and still hit the champion. (Trick: When a minion is about to die near a enemy champion and your E is in radius to hit the enemy champion, use E on the minion just before the minion dies and it sends clones to attack what ever is in the radius, making E similar to that of an Ashe Volley.) <-- Hard to get the timing right.
Wukong's staff grows outward and he spins it around, dealing damage and knocking up enemies. Wukong gains speed over the duration of the spell.
This is basically a Garen spin with more range and knockup effect. Many people have been complaining about the how Cyclone doesn't do enough damage and it's underpowered. Thats false, the damage is pretty good, but you must take note that the cyclone lasts 4 seconds so the damage takes time to add up. Also it doesn't show exact numbers for example : 100dmg ult per second for 4 seconds. 0.5 seconds (shows damage tick 50dmg) 1 second (shows damage tick 50dmg)-adds up to 100 dmg per second and so on and so forth. Since LoL is so fast paced you assume the damage is insignificant. ( A 2 second stun in real life is nothing compared to a 2 second stun in LoL)
Item Builds-I choose Dorans Blade= Strong early game and easy first blood.
Philosopher's Stone= Good gold income and great lane sustainability.
(Situational starting items. Depends on who you're laned against and your play style.)
-I choose : In most games because theres always CC and the MR is nice.
-I choose : Great lifesteal, armor, and attack damage for that early-mid game dominance. This combined with gives you AMAZING sustainablilty.
-I choose : This is a amazing item for Wukong as it gives him everything he needs to play a tanky DPS. The main stats on that makes Wukong excel at what he does is 12% movement speed and on cast your next attack deals 150% bonus damage and the 25% chance to slow an enemy by 35% for 2.5 seconds.(This is essential because his only CC is the knock up on his ulty, and he needs the slow to make up for the lack of CC)
-I choose : It gives you an good amount of HP and armor that enables you to tank enemy AD carries well. Also + synchronizes extremely well with . Also synchronizes well with Wukong's ulty as it adds 35dmg per sec.
-I choose : This converts your HP into "DPS" essentially, while also giving you armor and crit chance.(Great item considering how tanky I build Wukong.)
(Because you're tanky DPS you dont need too much MR early since mages will save their abilities for killing carries, but eventually you will want some MR to stay balanced. 2 great choices= for when enemy has burst/nuke/cc/ ults or for sustainability and extra movement speed for chasing down those speedy carries.)
[For last item you is based on game situations.
:To cripple enemy AD carries.
:If they tend to focus you in teamfights.
:If they have a lot of armor.
:An aura to help out your team (Good replacement for if you decide to sell it)
:Great item for damage and lifesteal.
Early GameFollow These Guidelines:
- If possible try to get top lane, as thats the most passive lane for farming and leveling up. Since Wukong is a mid-late game champion, this is an ideal lane for Wukong.
- Depending on who you are up against and if you want to be aggressive you can choose either to get Q or E first.
E: Harrassing and close gap ( great for against ranged champions up top.)
- Once you hit lvl 2 your + will be availiable.
- After several repetitions of this combo you can either do it again and ignite for a kill or wait till lvl 6 for your ulty.(Depends on the situation.)
Mid GameFollow These Guidelines:
- Continue to do everything that was mentioned in "Early Game"
- Be aware of mid lane as you can easily gank for a kill with your -->--> Combo.
- Also be aware of when your team wants to do dragon so you can push out top lane and head to dragon to help out.
- Your main priority durning Mid Game is to finish building and
Late GameFollow These Guidelines:
- Now that a few towers are down and more and more people are gathering up for teamfights,Dragon, or even Baron this is when you truly shine as a champion.
- You are able to do the following: 1.Initiate teamfigthts with the + Combo (Makes them burn spells/summoners on your clone.) or + Combo.
- Destroy enemy carries with your + + Combo.
- Protect your carries from enemy assassin type champions (Akali,Poppy,Kassadin,Nocturn,Irealia, etc.) by staying with your carries and helping them kill the "anti-carry"
Final CommentsAll in all Wukong ( a.k.a. Sun WuKong :D ) is a amazing champion to play, that can be very rewarding if you know how to play him correctly. He is a one of a kind Tanky DPS, the likes of which League of Legends has never encountered before...untill NOW!
