Introduction
So right now you are probably wondering, "Why even bother reading this noname's guide when I can just read General Oddone's?" Yes I am not TheOddone, I am Hawk. He's an odd dude, I am a birdie. PROS
- Easy Control of Buffs/Dragon/Baron
- Great Counter Jungling
- Great Ganks
- High Mobility
- AS Debuff/AS & Movespeed Buff
- Team Fight Presence
CONS
- Squishy Early On
- Bad at Farming Multiple Creeps
- Lack of Late Game Damage
- Inconsistent Ultimate
Despite his flaws, I still believe he is one of the best, if not the best jungler for the current meta

Hello, my name is Hawk and welcome to my guide. I just recently hit 2100. For as long as I could remember I was stuck at gold season 1 and for most of season 2. It was not until I changed my play style and attitude that I started gaining elo. I will be giving tips on how to climb the elo ladder throughout this guide. I used to play only junglers and thought Nunu kind of sucked when I first picked him up. Than one day as I was watching a stream, I saw this high elo player, Dmace, just stomp people with Nunu (this was prebuff). I continued watching this guy, picked up some tips and noticed he had hundreds of Nunu games. From that point on I decided to give Nunu another try and found out I loved him. Over time I switched over to top lane but Nunu will always be my go-to jungler. I have played hundreds of normals with Nunu and have created my own jungle route unique to me. Eventually I found out Nunu would be my golden ticket to high elo

Explanation
Utility Tree
You can switch out Summoners Insight for Good Hands. I just feel safer knowing my flash will be up sooner. Because of
you don't really need Meditation, plus you get more mobility from swiftness. I like taking Greed for the extra gold since he can't farm that well. You are probably thinking "Wtf why is this moron taking Sage?!?!?" I am very aggressive early game, I tend to gank as much as possible and over time I found the extra experience I received from successful ganks helped me snowball hard. Not the mention the 5% experience from awareness allows you to stay ahead in levelsDefensive Tree
As I have said before I am very aggressive early on, so I find that these masteries fuel my aggression and keep me alive. Reason why I spec points into Vigor is to stay healthy on hp to counter jungle and gank more. You may be confused why I am taking Bladed Armor. As strange as this sounds, this is probably the most important defensive mastery when running my route. The 6 extra damage allows you to punch and instant kill the first wolf, which allows you to get to their red faster, which also allows you to clear the red buff faster. Timing is everything in my route for any seconds missed could be life or death
Offensive Tree
I personally do not think the extra damage from the offensive tree is noticeable which is why I find its a waste to put points there. If you are ganking frequently the early magic pent cool downs might be valuable but personally I prefer the benefits from the other trees
Optional Masteries Page
![[http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l333/CristianOwns/Masteries2.jpg]](http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l333/CristianOwns/Masteries2.jpg)
Explanation
First off I understand the name of my rune page may confuse many of you. The fact is when you are a tanky mofo, your job as Nunu is to run at the enemy, throw
s to the face, and scream BAWR BAWR BAWR! Only way to play Nunu at a pro levelDefensive Tree
I think the mastery choices are pretty straight forward. This gives Nunu additional, HP, cool downs, move speed, and generally more tanky. This page is great if you are playing more passive and want to be more of a late game juggernaut. However, I still prefer the benefits of the utility tree more.
Utility Tree
Since I do not have points in Mastermind and since I am a little more beefy and passive, I do not feel the need for the flash cool down. All the other points should be pretty straight forward they give you the benefits of buff duration and extra move speed
Offensive Tree
Especially if you are running the defensive set up, I feel the offensive tree is the least useful for Nunu
Runes
![[http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l333/CristianOwns/Runes.jpg]](http://i328.photobucket.com/albums/l333/CristianOwns/Runes.jpg)
Explanation
Quintessences:
- [Primary]+1.5% Move Speed - Allows me to be more mobile and have control of the entire map. With Move Speed, you are able to roam the map more, gank more, and navigate through the jungle faster. Not to mention, there are times where having that little additional speed is the difference between living and dying or even securing that kill.
Here is a video where having Move Speed Quints saved me
Other Viable Quintessences:
- +1.0 Gold per 10 - I find Move Speed superior but these are viable considering Nunu can't farm well which allows for more free gold
- 2% Spell Vamp - This is great for survival purposes. Spell Vamp works with your
which heals you for additional health. Great for dragon/baron and even ganks when you are tanking the damage - +26 HP - Not a fan since I feel you are tanky enough and miss out on other Quints, but these are viable for that early game
- +5.0 Ability Power - I think if your focused on damage with Nunu, you are building him wrong but it is certainly viable since your snowball scales 1:1. Stronger ganks but not my favorite
Marks
- [Primary]+1.7% Attack Speed - Has synergy with
which allows you better mana control. It also helps you clear a little faster. In my opinion there are no other Marks you should be using
Other Viable Marks
- +0.95 Magic Pentration - Not really a fan and would never use on Nunu but it is certainly viable if you are focused on your
damage in ganks - +0.95 Physical Damage - Attack Damage is probably the most universally viable mark. It helps everyone whether its clearing camps faster, csing better, or harassing. Because you have blood boil it will help you clear a little faster but in my opinion there are no marks you should get besides attack speed
Seals
No I don't mean
(Jokes)- [Primary] +1.41 Armor - My preferred choice in all seriousness. Although Nunu already has good survivability with his
and masteries, the extra armor allows for that much more necessary survivability when counter jungling, dueling, and ganking
Other Viable Seals
- +0.25 Gold per 10 - Certainly viable if you feel you do not need armor. I prefer guaranteed survivability over guaranteed gold. I believe in times you ever able to pull off a gank, win a duel, or steal a buff because you had more hp from armor, makes up for the lost gold
Glyphs
- [Primary] +2.7 Magic Resist at Level 18 - Gives the needed tankiness for mid-late game
Other Viable Glyphs
- -.65% Cool Downs - definitely viable since it allows for more
and slightly quicker
when ganking. Only problem is the numbers are very miniscul to really notice - +1.2 Ability Power - As I have said before I think it is unwise to focus on damage but it is certainly viable if you prefer it
- -.96% Cools Downs at Level 18 & +3.1 Ability Power at Level 18 - I put these under the same category because although they do help some of Nunu's stats later on, I feel they are both inferior to the other choices. Yes they are viable but the cool downs are hardly noticeable and you should be nearing max anyways once you are done with your items. I do not think you should be focusing on Ability Power with Nunu and the numbers are not noticeable, especially as time goes by
Summoner Spells
![summoners/flash.png [summoners/flash.png]](guide/summoners/flash.png)
![summoners/smite.png [summoners/smite.png]](guide/summoners/smite.png)
Explanation:
As a Kleptomaniac, you need flash. It's not easy stealing Baron/Dragon without it
I do not care if you already have consume, you need Smite for dominant control. Nunu is a strong single target jungler but is very slow at clearing multiple small camps. You really need Smite to make up for those weaknesses. Also, having smite and consume means you can out steal any buff/dragon/baron
WHAAAAAAT?!?!? YOU WANT TO TAKE OTHER SUMMONERS?!?!? NUNU DON'T LIKE
People will argue that
can be used instead of flash, but if you are counter jungling often, you really need that flash as an escape. You can't exhaust smite steal baron over the wall dummy :P
Skills
Passive: VisionaryNunu can cast a spell for free after 7 attacks.
Explanation:
Personally I love this passive. Some people claim its a useless but I like to think of it as Nunu's ace in the hole. If he gets his blue stolen (Which will happen), he has a way of resuming the jungle. Not to mention when you kindly give up your blue to your middle lane, You have a way of maintaining mana
Q: ConsumeTakes a bite out of target minion, dealing 400/525/650/775/900 damage and restoring 125 / 200 / 275 / 350 / 425 (+100% of ability power) health.
Cooldown 35 / 30 / 25 / 20 / 15 seconds
Cost 60 mana
Range 125
Explanation:
MMMMM! DELICIOUS! This is the spell that makes Nunu, well Nunu. It is the reason why he can out smite steal anyone, except maybe this mofo
. This spell is why Nunu has a scary counter jungle reputation. It is also great for tanking towers, dragon, baronNOTE: This spell does also work on Champions summons such as Jack in the box, Tibbers, Voidlings, and etc. Yes you can consume Baron but you can't consume Teemo for some reason
W: Blood BoilIncreases an allied unit's attack speed by 25 / 35 / 45 / 55 / 65% and movement speed by 11 / 12.5 / 13 / 14.5 / 15% for 15 seconds. Nunu also gains the effects of Bloodboil if casted on an allied unit.
Cooldown 20seconds
Cost 50mana
Range 700
Explanation:
Are you having a bad game? Have are your buffs been stolen? Are you feedin with your team down 5k gold? FEAR NOT!!! This is why Nunu has
. With this spell you can turn your 0-5 ADC, into a 5-5 Pentakilling machine. This spell works well especially with champions such as
,
, and even melee champs like
. Even if the champion does not auto attack often, the Move Speed bonus is game changing
E: Ice BlastNunu throws a ball of ice at an enemy unit, dealing 85 / 130 / 175 / 225 / 275 (+100% of ability power) magic damage and slowing their movement speed by 20/30/40/50/60% and attack speed by 25% for 4 seconds.
Cooldown 6 seconds
Cost 75 / 85 / 95 / 105 / 115mana
Range 550
Explanation:
Let's go back to the previous scenario except this time we find out the enemy
is taking a dump all over your team. FEAR NOT!!! One snowball and that Pendejo Barbarian just got reduced to doodoo. It is
's bread and butter for ganking, escaping, and chasing
R: Absolute ZeroWhile channeling for 3 seconds, slows nearby enemy units' attack speed and movement speed. After channeling, enemies caught in the area are dealt 625 / 875 / 1125 (+250% of ability power) magic damage.
Cooldown 150 / 120 / 90seconds
Cost 150mana
Range 550
Explanation:
True or False
"This ultimate is sooooo amazing because of it's damage :D"
FALSE!!!
*DING DING DING*
Now while it have a great ratio, the idea of this ultimate in team fights is not to kill the enemy team, but rather as a method of slowing and zoning. This spell will help disable your foes from killing your team which serves as a great peeling tool. Most people do not wish to hang out with Nunu while he is channeling this, so many times you can use this to separate your foes
Skill Order
- Level 1
- Always take unless you are planning on Level 1 fighting (I don't recommend) If you are level one fighting than take
but consume allows for fast buff clear - Level 2
- I almost never gank at level 2 so I put a point here to navigate the map faster, counter jungle, and clear faster - Level 3
- At this point you have blue and red buff and should be ready to gank an open lane. Top is usually my lane of choice but middle is a good second choice. I am rarely able to gank bottom unless they are stupidly over pushed - Level 4
- At this point you should be maxing this skill out. The slow, cooldowns, and damage is too great to pass up. Makes ganks easy - Level 5
Unless you are doing dragon at level 5 with your team, get this for the same reason you got it at Level 4 - Level 6
Pretty self explanitory, you can position yourself for small schirmishes or possibly sneak into bushes to counter their blue. Always useful to have incase a fight breaks out - Level 7
- OP - Level 8
- If a team fight is about to break out I might get
instead, but usually putting another point here allows for an easier dragon and buff steals - Level 9+
- At this point of the game every spell you upgrade is situational
Leveling Spells Post 9
- You get this when you want stronger jungle control. Sometimes you can do Baron between 15-20 minutes if you are ahead with a couple of points in consume15 Min Baron Video w/ Commentary
- If laning phase ends early and you want your hyper carries to be stronger, this is your ideal spell. If you are planning on roaming the map with oracles, this is also a great spell to keep mobile
- I usually would finish this by Level 9 but sometimes different situations call for different spells
- Level at 11 and 16 always (unless, if and only if you are about to die and need to level something else to stay alive. Ex. Karthus ults, need more HP from
)
Item Builds
Early Game
![items/boots-of-speed.png [items/boots-of-speed.png]](guide/items/boots-of-speed.png)
![items/sight-ward.png [items/sight-ward.png]](guide/items/sight-ward.png)
You need the boots for mobility to counter jungle and gank. You do not really need more potions, one is enough to keep you healthy. The ward is for vision of the enemy jungler![items/philosophers-stone.png [items/philosophers-stone.png]](guide/items/philosophers-stone.png)
![items/heart-of-gold.png [items/heart-of-gold.png]](guide/items/heart-of-gold.png)
These are the first few items you should rush. They give you passive gold and basic defensive stats to sustain the jungle
[Optional]
I think this item is terrible on Nunu. It wastes a slot, gives very little AP and Nunu should not
people in the face. It isn't the worst item in the world and the passive gold makes it viable, so if you really want to go for it![items/sight-ward.png [items/sight-ward.png]](guide/items/sight-ward.png)
You should always be buying these whenever you back. If you want to be king of the jungle you need vision of the entire map. Makes counter jungling easier and it also stops your "bad" teammates from getting ganked so much by the enemy jungler
Mid Game
[Note: Your items will be situational there is no "one build fits all" with Nunu]
![items/mercurys-treads.png [items/mercurys-treads.png]](guide/items/mercurys-treads.png)
It is easier to build armor over magic resist, so these are usually my boots of choice. These boots are the best for keeping you alive when you go on your counter jungle mission
[Optional]
Nunu is not a ninja but if the enemy is stacking AD like a mofo, get this and laughOR
These boots are awesome for ganking. You are able to roam more and run through lanes faster. Personally I think
will keep you alive longer to maintain an
. These will help get your lanes ahead but its late game benefits are negligible. Sell later if you buy this
The 15% cool downs are awesome and the armor is solid to keep you tank. Build into a ![items/frozen-heart.png [items/frozen-heart.png]](guide/items/frozen-heart.png)
The cool downs rock and the extra hp is a bonus. Build into a
or ![items/zekes-herald.png [items/zekes-herald.png]](guide/items/zekes-herald.png)
Mid game I love ganking, and with this + Nunu, you can pull off many easy tower dives. This is situational do not always buy this![items/negatron-cloak.png [items/negatron-cloak.png]](guide/items/negatron-cloak.png)
Situational buy if you want they have tons of magic damage. Buy this and laugh at them
[Optional]
I am usually set with my cool downs but this gives you some additional tankiness, magic resist, and the passive works with your consume
if my teammates do not buy this I will. This is a great item that makes you generally more tanky and helps your team outLate Game
Enemy AD cannot touch you when you have this
Team Movespeed OP[Note: Past this point, every item you buy is situational. You do not have to buy all these. They are just items I like]
I love the magic resist, HP, and passive. Overall a good item but you can get
or
. With
They will never be able to catch you and you can regenerate most of health your health back. Personally I prefer having HP in situations when team fights begin
Yes I get this item sometimes. Because
is a crappy farmer, having this makes that much easier. The HP/Armor gives you great stats for team fights, especially when you're tanking towers for your team. When you are peeling for your ADC, having this will make the enemy a little more hesitant to jump on them when you're near. Who doesn't love having their Yeti on Fire?!?!?
Sometimes I get this but not often
I think the AP is hardly noticeable but this is not a bad item. It gives solid stats plus you get another passive slow that adds with your ultimateMost Important Item
This map solidifies the deal when it comes to map control. You will be able to gank those needed lanes mid game, secure easy dragons, and secure easy barons. Be careful when you buy this but with your tanky build and
you should be okDorans vs GP 10s
I have seen some people get
instead of gp 10 items for its great early stats of AP, health, and mana regenIf you really wanted too I suppose you could buy
but I personally am not a fan. As I have said before I do not think building AP on Nunu will make that much difference. He only has two spells that deal damage and one of them is inconsistent. I think Doran's take up too many slots, and although they are great for early-mid, they serve very little purpose late game and delay his build. Nunu isn't a great farmer so buying those gp 10s give him a reliable source of gold
Playing Each State of the Game
Early Game
Your goal for early game is two things
- Shutting down the enemy jungler
- Snowballing your lanes
Easiest way to do these is with
. I kid you not, giving your team vision of the enemy jungler allows them to play more aggressive and dominate their lanes. Even if you do not gank for them, if you completely shut down their jungler, you rid them the fear of enemy jungle presence. You should still gank the lanes if possible but counter jungling is just a great. Your focus for ganks should be lanes that can snowball hard into late or prevent an enemy lane from snowballingMid Game
Once the early game phase is over, the lanes are stabalized. You may have some people roaming, some trying to passively farm, or people setting up for dragon. Mid game this is your focus
- Gain vision control of Dragon/Baron
- Ward as much as possible
- Gank w/e lanes are still open
- Feed your team buffs
- Steal theirs
Mid game is your most active point of the game. Everything is a cluster-f*** and it's up to you to keep everything under control. If you manage a successful gank, get your team to group and start taking towers. Mid game phase,
is your best friend. Use this to clear any vision preventing ganks and for clean dragon/baron control. Mid game Nunu is one of the only junglers that can secure 15-20 minute barons. Keep your eyes open for itLate Game
At this point of the game there is very little reason for you to be roaming. Your team at this point should start grouping up. Here is your focus
- Clean up baron wards
- Keep your team together for pushing
As odd as that sounds you really need to tell your team what to do. Be nice about it but get your team to push down towers. With your tankiness and blood boil it shouldn't be too hard. If your team is ahead you can clear baron wards and bait fights. It is easy to disengage with Nunu so keep poking them down, slow them with
, and wait for one of your teammates to make a play off that slow. After someone dies, make sure you take objectives. One death should mean dragon, towers, or baron
Team Fights
Pre Gaming
You gotta get yo teammates pumped and energized before the battle even begins
YO CARRIES NUNCAForeplay
The poke war has begun. Your

The action has begun. You have many important Jobs. First, make sure your carried is
'd. They will be the breadwinners in the fight. Next,
their AD carries. By doing this you neutralize their damage output and prevent them from escapingOrgasm
Finally, it's time for your ultimate. You will not always be able to pull off clutch ultimates, and you probably won't be dealing a ton of damage. But what you do bring instead is many uses. For one, you neutralize their AD carries even further, prevent them from escaping. You also zone the enemy team away from each other as they are forced to split or move away. Finally, in the case your
gets stomped, you at the very least tank a cc for your carries to finish the jobRefractory Period
Most of the battle is over. At this point your load has been blown and your just giving the final finishes by

Team Fight w/ Commentary
Jungle Routes
Against Blue Junglers
First I start wolves. Make sure to tell your teammates to back off since you instant kill the wolf. You don't want them to steal your experience. From there you need a little damage on Golem but leave the small minions there. This may confuse many of you but you want to leave the small ones to have more time to safely steal red. Not to mention you will know that there blue will spawn before yours. When you steal red from blue side, you want to run through the top Tri. When you steal from purple side, you want to run through the wraith side. Sometimes the enemy will have it warded but it is high unlikely. If that is the case just run away and flash if you need too. No harmed done they just miss experience
Video 1 w/ Commentary
Against Red Junglers
Try to get a ward on their wraiths but don't die trying. Find out where they are starting and base your jungle route on that. If you see they are starting red, I normally go my blue wraith into their blue. If I see they are starting blue I try to do my usual route. You are not always able to steal their buffs because red junglers such as
and
clear their buffs waaay to fast for you to steal itVideo 2 w/ Commentary

Just to recapHow to Play Nunu
Snowball your way into victory
Consume your opponent's will to win
Cause the blood of your foes to boil in rage
Reduce your enemies to absolute zero
Ride the freaking Yeti
Be one with the Yeti
I personally believe Nunu is the best well rounded jungler. He has some of the best (if not the best) counter jungling, ganks, jungle control, and team presence. This is my first guide so give me some feedback and let me know things I could explain better or your thoughts on my ideas. I apologize for any lag or lack of enthusiasm in my videos. I had never made videos before and I am kinda tired, I have been working on this guide for many hours each day. Hope this guide helps you play

Let's say the opponents Jungler also follow and mastered this guide and picked Nunu before you.
1) How will you counter?
2) Who will you pick to avoid this counter jungling by Nunu?
3)Is Dr. Mundo the best option?
1. Focus on counter jungling. Even if you can't gank the enemy, you are doing your team just as much help by shutting down their jungler
2. Lane ganking. This is often your best form of ganking if your team is pushing
3. Oracles. If the lanes are warded it, this makes it much easier to gank. Even if you don't gank, by clearing the wards you make your enemies play alot more passive until they have vision
4. Boots of mobility. If you really cannot manage a gank than these boots will help you catch the enemies
Hope this helps

I go to gank bot, all warded or they're running vayne+ali so i get pushed all day. It discourages me to play Nunu if I can't help my team secure kills. I know he's good and all but I just can't do a good gank! Any help appreciated!

@H00CHGG- If this were the case than you would see everyone going mid/top Nunu. Mid and top Nunu has an insane amount of harass and sustain in lane. The only problem with this Nunu is the exact reason AP Nunu doesnt work. With only 2 AP spells, your damage is unreliable. Even though your ultimate has an insane amount of damage, it is inconsistent and impossible to pull out every fight. You fail one ultimate in a fight and you have nothing left. What makes Nunu a top pick right now is his blood boil and AS debuff. By building tank Nunu, you are able to stay alive for a long time to keep your team in the fights and peel
