IntroductionHi my name is Dyrus and I like to play Darius, here are a few reasons why I like to play him and why you should too.
1. His name is similar to mine and somewhat close to darien.
2. His bleeding passive is really annoying to calculate when laning against.
3. His Q is an effective wave clear, harass, and is not effected by attack speed debuffs by doing more sustained damage with his kit, adds a stack of bleed.
4. His story is even badass, he kills his own captain in his first battle to lead the troops to victory.
5. His W is needed for every brusier, an auto attack speed canceler. Not only does it do bonus damage but it slows and adds a stack of bleed.
6. His E creates opportunities to initiate, catch and kill.
7. DUNKS his ult creates pentakill opportunities
8. His burst is amazing for an AD brusier.
9. Spamming his dance is funny. His laugh is funny. His taunt is funny. his joke sucks though imo. it makes him look like a *joke*. hohoho..... ok nvm.
10. He has natural built in armor pen, so you can just build ad, or tank and still do a lot of damage in team fights.
Of course there are reasons not to play him.
1. If you build him wrong his late game sucks.
2. Hexdrinker is a core item and it is bad late game.
3. Phage gets stuck being a phage for the longest time. (and now phage costs more)
4. He doesn't last as long as other brusiers and gets rolled by champions outside his e range if you get kited properly.
5. You can't deal with poke very well 0 sustain, you're forced to flash apprehend if you have no initiate.
Edits: Added a math section between triforce and BT (last chapter, user full credit)
MasteriesAlways 9/21/0 switch between magic resist and armor from time to time.
Runes10 apen 9-10 ad. 13 armor mr per level. (flat mr vs ap's always)
15 ad 13 armor 12 mr.
8.5 ad 13 armor mr per level health regen (vs jayce/nidalee)
replace health regen with movement speed when you're going to roam a lot. also good end game.
Replace quints with flat hp if you're supporting or if you're going balls deep lvl 1-3
Movement speed is for players who feel like they could have caught someone for a kill but it's a hard tradeoff for the AD or any other quint but totally worth it at times.
For me this is my favorite Darius page.
Standard summoner spells, if you're feeling adventurous go or
Ignite + Bleed + ult is stupid burst, so ridiculous that you can't even calculate it yourself.
Flash + Apphrehend could win you the game if you catch 5 of them in it and your team has a chain cc like orianna or something.
Darius aims his attacks strategically, causing his target to bleed. This effect stacks up to five times.
One of the best passives I've ever played with in game. Does so much magical damage throughout the game allows you to build tank and still do damage.
Darius swings his axe in a wide circle. Enemies struck by the blade take more damage than those struck by the shaft.
Darius' main damage skill for harassing, wave clearing, decently low mana cost to spam.
W: Crippling Strike
Darius's next attack severs a crucial artery. As the target bleeds out, their movement and attack speeds are slowed. Crippling Strike's cooldown is lower the more bloodied the target.
Darius follow up ability on slowing followed by auto attacks for max bleed into dunk.
Darius hones his axe, granting him passive armor penetration. When activated, Darius sweeps up his enemies with his axe's hook and pulls them to him.
High cooldown but this ability makes darius one of the best kill lanes in the game. If you can catch enemy squishies, it won't take long before they die unless they have jumps, which means bad news for you.
R: Noxian Guillotine
Darius leaps to an enemy Champion and strikes a lethal blow, dealing true damage. This damage increases for each stack of Hemorrhage on the target. If Noxian Guillotine is a killing blow, its cooldown is refreshed.
Pentakill potential, huge burst, fair mana cost, this ultimate is one of the greatest snowball tools since it refreshes if you use it to kill an enemy instead of doing dps during a fight. Sometimes it's best to use this on max bleed targets if they're high threats and you don't want them to get away. Refresh the bleed with your ult + ignite to finish them off.
Use this correctly and you'll have first blood, or preventing yourself from getting first blooded.
Typical standard anti AD start.
item=mana-potion] Farm until 10 minutes and buy all the core items you need.
: anti CC, anti AP
anti AD, decent item vs AD scaling with hp.
great snowball item for roaming when your enemy laner just keeps going top, just run around all over the map with these for maximum efficiency in snowballing other lanes. (normally do this when you're ahead)
x2 : get one or two depending on how hard you're going into your lane meaning how many times you guys play the trading game.
great for early game but kind of sucks as the game goes on. Might as well have 2 dorans blades.
metagolem HP vs the world. built vs hybrids like akali or nidalee.
End Item Build Examples:
Vs AD (replace tabi if you got it early vs AD top and jungle) + any potential item
+ add any armor item when needed.
All item builds in any order as long as the resists match up to who are you laning or fighting in the jungle
If all fails just go full on damage or tank, here are some of darius' potential items.
good ad burst to add to ult, autos do % physical damage also
good for laning vs really ridiculous opponents like elise so you can save gold from buying 20 hp pots.
Solid dorans item for HP, delays your core items though, anti autos.
People just build warmogs instead because of how expensive this is
you already have W slow so adding on any more would be overkill, but it makes you impossible to get away from unless people have jumps.
Might as well build warmogs
If you can afford it you'll be hitting like a truck also your W crits so you might 2 shot somebody with this
Solid support stats item strong overall vs AOE
Rather build other items since you already have built in penetration but if the entire enemy team is stacking armor why not
Solid AD item ads damage, life steal, wave clear
Good vs AP, good for gap closing, CDR, regen, team initation
Not a good item on darius but if you have nothing else to build for MR sure
if you can afford it, go for it late game
not a really good item anymore but if your team has all AD go for it or if you have nothing to build off of brutalizer
god tier anti AD
expensive super brusier item
super snowball item
solid all around item, I'd actually consider this item as a legit core item if it didn't have attack speed.
This item is a good support item if you're ever support darius
Counter picksThese Champions will screw Darius over in lane
Survives and OUTSCALES HARD
MOST ANNOYING YORDLE TO LANE AGAINST ON SUMMONERS RIFT
IT'S A ROCK
HIS ULT GIVES HIM HP WHILE YOURS DOES THE SAME DAMAGE OUTSUSTAINS, OUT CC, AND ESCAPES
He's a crab.
Tumbles away and has a skill that can hit you away every 10-15 seconds and W hurts your HP
In the end if you get a gank you'll beat everyone in the game.
Against everyone else you should be able to burst down or destroy melee's as long as you have the same item potential. Your Q pushes lane naturally but that's why you got wards and your own jungler also.
Team FightsSave E for squishies unless you're catching someone.
Apply bleed on the target you want to kill and wait until they get low enough to refresh your ult.
Don't go out of your way to get to the enemy AD carry unless you're going to 3 shot them, just auto attack the nearest target because you do ridiculous bleed damage anyways. Then once they come close to auto you just pull them in and go ham.
Flash E if you see the chance for a wombo combo with your team.
Everything else comes from experience.
2v2 Laning, make sure you focus the same target as your jungler and you should win every 2v2. It's better that your jungler tanks over you since you have the resets, unless you're low on mana.
this is a stream of my playing Darius about 5-6 times in a row. Watch it and learn from it, 2400-2600 elo play of trolo queue.
ignore my rage if you find any.
These vods are semi-old, ignore the item builds but use it for how to play darius reference.
