IntroductionRyze has always been one of my favorite Champs. He got nerf/fixed a while back but is still one of the best AOE nukers and duelists in the game. Ryze has synergy with literally any champion in a dual lane but when he is alone is when his true power shines.
This is my first guide. I just love Ryze so much i felt i had to spread the love.
RunesLets go over the rune build.
Greater Mark of Insight (+0.95 magic penetration) its actually .87 now. this rune is much more effective now with the math change to Magic and Armor Pen.
Greater Seal of Potency (+0.59 ability power) this is to supplement the Mag pen runes and add some early game burst for your poke.
Greater Glyph of Warding (+1.49 magic resist) This is what will keep you alive in mid. i know the new meta doesn't require an AP mid, but 90% of the time this will be the case.
Greater Quintessence of Intellect (+37.5 mana) 2 of these, for both mana reserves for that low CD spam :) and also for more damage from your abilities.
Greater Quintessence of Potency (+4.95 ability power) adds to the seals Burst and increases the poke damage.
Now a lot of people prefer run speed Quints on Ryze, and that is fine. I however prefer to go with damage and some survivability mixed with tactical use of my rune prison. the Furor boot enchant helps also :)
These spells work best with ryze because of the overall utility of the spells.
Ignite adds to the damage going out and also can stop a life steal champ (Fidd) or a spell vamp champ (Mord) in their tracks.
Ghost is important for Ryze as not only a chasing tool for those pesky buggers like Kas and Ez, but also helps in escaping and Kiting those fun guys like Brand.
Optional spells i would suggest, if your play style doesn't synergise with either of these are:
for escapes and that unexpected Rune prison on a team mates gank.
for hard hitting champs like Yi and Jax
for quick Shop hops and saving endangered allies or towers. this is especially useful if you have Teemo on your team as you can port to his shrooms for a quick gank.
Other than that the return of the other spells falls off so steeply that i would not recommend any of them.
Item BuildsStart off with try to stay in lane until you have enough gold for and . next time you go back pick up a and if you have enough . Pick up next and depending if you are against an AD get , if not into a . Build a for survival and more damage. If they are getting MR get if not (sorry for them) get for more survivability or for a little less sustain but more utility. Finish off with a .

MasteriesIn the Masteries i went 23/0/7 ignoring the defensive stuff for more damage output and longer mama sustain.
the damage tree is self explanatory. just make sure you get the point in spellsword and Destruction so you can push towers when you destroy your lane opponent... no just kidding. even though that is useful the Spellsword is for last hitting.
Getting Meditation ensures that you can poke more without going oom as fast.
the points in Expanded mind mean you get an additional 13 AP damage per 2 levels, so it adds up.
LOL I know.
Basically, get first for poke. Then get for poke and an escape in case that pesky jungler decides to gank. get your witch will spike the damage from your other abilities and off you will go.
drop all points in your , gaining one more in along the way.
drop one more in for a slightly longer root and small damage increase, then max out
As always put points in whenever its avaliable.
When you get in a fight, most people have the impulse to lead with . DO NOT DO THIS unless you KNOW they cannot escape and you can ensure the kill.
lead with your , the Magic reduction stacks and increases the damage from everything else.
so your uber nuke combo is!!!!!
remember your can bounce off you also, so get close. after this initial burst, if they are still alive, just follow up with a quick , or if they are just out of range but there are minions between you toss a on the minion and it can bounce to them snagging the kill.
